Problems with USB tethering and portable hotspot after flashing to XWLPD - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed from GB to ICS (XWLPD) and both my USB tethering and portable hotspot functions are no longer working. My PC recognizes the network adapter (usb case) and lets me connect to the phone (portable hotspot case) but there is no Internet access. Any help would be much appreciated.
my apologies in advance if this is a known issue with ICS. I didn't find any reference to it in my searches

no issues here, did you wipe?

I did not. Think it will help? I was hoping to avoid that since the tethering is the only functionality issue I seem to have.

What USB tethering program are you using?
In my stock NEE LPD, the only tethering options native to the ROM are bluetooth and wi-fi. There is no USB tethering option in there.
What ROM and Kernel did you have before? You mentioned GB, but was it a totally stock ROM?
If you're using a 3rd party program to enable USB tethering, check to see if the app is ICS-compatible.

I have only been using the stock roms provided by Infratech and the tethering functions native to Android.
at first I thought some new android ics app was blocked by droidwall, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I will definitely try a wipe this weekend, and hopefully it works out. thanks for the suggestion atifsh.

same problem on GNX JB 4.1.2 with root

[Q] Wlan does not work. Not even with Stock Rom

Hey Folks,
I know this question has been around several times, but I already tried searching most threads that were listed with wlan problems: none seems to solve my problem. Most threads deal with router settings and problems with pairing devices with special routers.
However, my problem seems to be more basic: I cannot find wireless lan networks, no matter how insecure (or secure) they are. They simply are not even listed in my device. Not on windows 6.5 (duttys) nor on the most recent Stock rom and neither on android (mdeejay rev. 1.6).
I heard it might be an issue with the radio rom. Currently I use the latest Radio rom 2.15.50.14. My device has HSPL version is (2.08 - afaik).
For your information, what happend: my HD2 was broken after a bike acciddent and I sent it in for repair. After getting my motherboard replaced, I was no longer able to find any wireless lan. So I flashed the 2.15 radiorom (non-tmous). After the fist boot, I saw my wirelesslan at home appear only one glance, then disappearing for good (just flashing for 1 or 2 seconds in the wlan list of winmo 6.5). From then, all my efforts to connect to any wirelesslan were in vain. I cannot find any wireless lan. Trying to add a SSID manually, does not work.
Is there anyone with the same problem, does anyone have clous on how to fix this issue? I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance,
jokeR.
Hey guys, i just fixed the device.
So for others having the same problem my solution:
Obviously the wirelesslan antenna was not connected to the motherboard after I had recieved it from the motherboard replacement.
I had to open my HD2 and ended up like the picture below.

On the left side you can see the motherboard/camera/screen-device. Locate the camera. Right to the Camera there is a black cable that is connected from the platine where the camera sits to the motherboard on the lower part of the device with a simple snap.
That cable hang loose on my device, after connecting it to the motherboard, my wirelesslan works properly no matter what radio rom was used.

T-Mobile UK MB860 Intermittent problems with data and wifi

Right, ive noticed a few prople have had similar problems but nothing that is the same as what im am experiencing.
basically, about 6 weeks ago i flashed the Alien v4 rom (wanted to retain webtop else i would have chosen cm7). this has worked flawlessy till now. Ive suddenly started having issues with wifi and data connectivity.
When connected to wifi i get internet access for aropund 2>10 minutes. then i lose it, although my phone still says im connected to the network. When i turn off the wifi, i check the wireless setting and it says that mobile networks are not connnected. when this happens, the data icon in the task bar is grey not green, ive noticed i only get a connection when its green.
System version:
4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US
Baseband:
N_01.100.00R
Webtop:
WT-1.2.2-110
Kernel:
[email protected]#3
I had the same problem before, a few months ago. Think it was just an issue with the ROM I was using. Have you tried a different ROM?
Not yet, will be when i get home. I was under the assumption however that alien was the best (webtop rom) in terms of speed and stability
Just backup your ROM in recovery - try out as many ROMs as you'd like to try. You might find one that both resolves your problem and suits you better, and as long as you have that backup you can just jump straight back in where you left off with your current ROM.
I have a backup anyway. Always make one once I know a rpm works after flashing. Been flashing for too long with many a handset to not keep backups. Ive learned the hardway with this haha

and I tried that, but for some reason, after turning on the usb tethering, it disconnects as it was and the device manager gives me a notification of new hardware named Xperia and can't install them. Tried to install it manually with the drivers from the PC Companion, but they didn't work.
Here is what I get for it on the Device Manager.

I tried it and got it working on MIUI based on CM.....
I was hoping to use native tethering, because I'm still a little skeptic about these kind of apps. Still thank you, if there isnt any other way, will try yours.

You CAN use native tethering. I ran into the same problem. I just did forced install of RNDIS driver on my Win7 x64 to "Xperia" device.

Otg problem on sony z5c

Hello guys hope ur all doing well.
I have problem with my Sony z5c,when I try to connect the USB otg don't work but when I connect it in recovery it works perfectly. Any solutions!?
Hello,
Are you on stock Android? If not, which ROM or version are you on?
By the way if you are on a ROM, it would be better to reply to that thread.
After some (I don't know which) release of Android, you have to enable USB OTG from the quick settings before plugging in USB devices.Looks like this:

Sorry for the late reply
It could be the OTG connecter's problem, as they are often cheap and fragile.
Have you tried using it on another phone?
(Or used other OTG connecters on your phone?)
I'm on lineageOS 18.1, but 17.1 should work better.

Yes I used it in another phone and it works
And also I tried it in many custom Roms and still the same problem.
OK I'm running out of ideas
How about doing it in this order:
1. Plug your USB device onto the connector
2. Enable USB OTG from quick settings
After that, you should see a toast saying "Starting USB OTG Detection for 30000 milliseconds"
3. Plug in the USB OTG connector
That's what worked for me. For reference, the toast looks like this:
OK I will try
