What is 'ops file'?
Just use odin 1.85 I think. Put the kernel tar file at pda
Sent from my GT-I9100G using XDA

make sure you are rooted first
1 ) download HC-Ktool from market
2) choose and download one of this kernel
Lucifr Kernel 1.6uv
Superatmos Kernel v3.3
3) open ktool and press dump current kernel (incase anything happen)
4) connect ur phone to PC and backup ur original zimage file in ur internal sdcard ( phone)
5) copy the extracted zimage ( lucifr or superatmos ) to internal sdcard
6) open ktool and press flash kernel from sdcard/zimage
7) reboot and enjoy
or
you can flash it using Odin 1.85..select your kernel file at PDA and leave all the setting..press start..phone auto reboot then enjoy

[Q] Plz help upgrade to 2.2 using Odin

Hi guy,,,
i had un-successfull tries with odin. but Also had a successful one when flashing Vibrant with Stock 2.1. it was very simple indeed just downloaded .tar and .pit file, and flash , and thats it.
i want upgrade to 2.2 (latest version of 2.2 , maybe 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 not sure)
using Odin.
can any1 provide a straight link to download STOCK OFFICIAL FROYO .tar and .pit files ? to use wth Odin ??
Thx Guys
Ok , another quick Q: when i flashed 2.1, i downloaded .pit and .tar file.
now im downloading T959UVKA7 -that is 2.2 - from http://www.samfirmware.com/
but i donkt know how to find associated .pit ???
is any ROM MUST has a .pit file to flash ???
Latest one was kb5 and you can find odin version here.,,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12913705
plz , i downloaded T959UVKA7.rar , do i need .pit file ??? and from where i get it ??
does every version of ROM have a distinct .pit file ?

can i find answer to this please ?
Answer is NO!!
Mapping can be done using the same 512 pit file.
Also you only need to repartition once which you already did when you Odin's to JFD Eclair
Therefore, you don't need to partition anymore.
Also UN-tick reboot on Odin, Otherwise you wont have control the first time in wiping critical stuff before you re-boot. You use the menu on the phone to wipe data/factory reset and then do the wipe the cache next, Then do a reboot otherwise you might end up with a boot loop.
Also why aren't you using Rom Manager, to flash ROM's instead of Odin?
Your going to find out here shortly that 99% of all ROM's are in a zipped file, and must be done using CWM recovery method.
thx for your reply , can u provide me wth a link for detailed guide for beginners to use Rom Manager from scratch ?

Got Root? YOU NEED A CUSTOM RECOVERY!
Big props to XDA user Koush for his amazing Rom Manager App. In short, this lets you create system backups for those "oops" moments. It also gives you a directory of ROMs for easy downloading and flashing. Yeah, it is that cool. Please see his post for instructions. After successfully installing, be sure a make a Nandroid Backup of your system before flashing any rom's (see below).
Installation instructions:
1.Download ROM Manager from the Market.
2.Flash Recovery.
3.Choose Vibrant as your phone.
4.Accept the Superuser prompt.
5.On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
6.Watch the backup go!
Thx Dear,
plz i need to confirm that setting before i dive into Ocean
- i open Odin 1.3 (leave Auto-reboot , F. reset time checked) by default
- will load 512.bit into PIT
- will load "T959UVKA7-REV05-home-low-CL865177.tar.md5" into PDA
- put phone into download mode , connect USB cable , and press Strat.
is this right ? any additional steps or files required ? (i hear about csc , modem files , etc , do i need such files ? or just everything is included in T959UVKA7 version i downloaded from samfirmware.com)
thx in advance..
Must... control... fist of... death...

urgent help needed

hi guys i am in a very bad situation my friend asked me to put hebrew on his galaxy s 2 , so as a good friend i tried to help him idownloaded the orange zip file and use odin to flash it and now it got stuck on the boot screen i can go into download mode but i dont know how to bring it back to life
please help
thanks
Zip files are not meant for ODIN.
ODIN normally flashes tar files which has only the necessary files and no scripts inside.
Clockworkmod is used to flash zip files.
I think you used PDA button on ODIN to flash *.zip file.
Find a kernel with cwm , codeworkx's kernel or siyah kernel.
Flash using PDA of odin.
If it doesn't work, flash an entire stock rom using odin, download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Then flash a kernel with cwm, and flash hebrew zip in recovery
thanks for the reply I have one more question do I need a USB jig and also what custom binary count for mine says 2
is that a problem
If you can get into download mode, you don't need a jig. The binary count shows the number of times you flashed from download mode. It's not a problem, but it's a proof that you did, and it probably means your phone lost its warranty.
You dont need a jig if you can get into download mode but it will reset the binary counter for warranty purposes

Well, some people put the .tar's inside a zip to compress it, so it might be a Odin file after all.
Open the zip file, and if there is just ONE file there, extract it and flash it with Odin. If there are alot of files/folders, it's for CWM

Method 1 (easiest in my opinion)
1. Open the .tar.md5 file with the firmware you are using.
2. Extract zImage and put it on the sdcard.
3. Use CWMManager from within the rom and use the 'Flash a kernel' option, the device will autoreboot
Method 2
1. Download a kernel in a CWM compatible .zip
2. Reboot to clockworkmod recovery
3. Use 'install zip from sdcard' option and select the appropriate .zip file
4. Reboot device
Method 3
1. Get the stock kernel for your firmware in .tar format from this thread
2. Reboot into download mode
3. Open Odin and click on PDA and select the .tar file you just downloaded and click start. Device will auto reboot
Method 4 (Paid app)
1. Get stock kernel in .tar file.
2. Open Mobile Odin and select Kernel and the .tar file
3. Reboot device
In case you don't know how to get on Download mode: Hold together :
Power Button, Home Button and Volume Down button for some seconds. This will boot you into Download Mode.Same combination but Volume Up instead will boot you to your Recovery Mode.

Back up your current Kernel with with hellcat's K-Tool,
this will dump your kenrel on the SD card root as a "zimage" this can be restored with the same tool if something goes wrong with installed custom kernel.
Better immedietly after dumping the kernel, just put it in a folder on the SDcard with name Stock kernel or somthing, to avoid miximg up with other "zimage"s and accedental flshing.....
thanks everyone for helping...

[Q] Flash CWM.img recovery

1-How can I flash a recovery .img file?
2-In Samsung devices, is there a fastboot mode?
My device is I9300

Kernel Perseus.alpha25
Device is rooted using cf-root 6.4
Already have CWM, but want to update

I can flash it using Odin if it's a .tar file
I downloaded the latest recovery as .img file
Odin would not read it as I know
I used ''SGS3 International ToolKit v5.0'' to create flashable .tar file from the .img file.. but I got an error while flashing through Odin

I did that using 7-zip
compressed the .img file in .tar format, then flashed using Odin
thanks anyway
Does it really work with 7 zip ?

I tried using 7zip to create a tar out of my img file and tried to flash it via Odin, but Odin crashed every time I tried doing so. What where your steps? I'm trying to create a tar file from a cwm recovery.img

Just flash the.img with mobile Odin
Got it somewhat randomly
I tried it again with several tar files (7zip, SGS III Toolbox, Mskip's provided tar file) but this time odin did not crash, it just did not do anything. Tried Odin3 1.85 then Odin3 3.07 but it wouldn't work, then i found this other Odin called "Odin3 0.07 for SGS III" and tried again with the file created with Toolbox and it worked! I then noticed the only difference in Settings with this other Odin was, that F. time-reset was ticked. Could that be the reason it worked ?
Cheers
So there's still no way of installing a recovery with fastboot.. ? Just making sure.
And from where do I get Odin?
edit: Well I guess I have my answer:
[...]>>Even for flashing the custom recovery like Clockworkmod recovery or TWRP recovery you will need this tool. androidlegend.com/odin-multi-downloader
can anyone c/d?
Just Download Rashr from the PS and flash CWM recovery.img with it and enjoy
