Everyone,
I have been running the latest CM10 nightlies for a couple days and love it on my EVO. However, I am having consistent issues with the navigation. I am S-OFF running the latest firmware. I have been flashing the latest CM10 nightly, although I have also tried deck's latest version as well. When flashing, I wipe everything in sight, trying both the superwipe zip and manual wiping, but everytime I install CM10 the Google navigation crashes on me and has weird screen artifacts. I have also tried using the GPS Status app to clear my GPS data to no avail. Does anyone have any other tricks to get nav to work on CM10?
Thanks!
Brian
Well, all I can say is to make sure you have a half decent kernel, and make sure you're using the right gapps. No reason it should crash on you.
actually im in the same boat. had to use waze (not bad at all), just wish it works.

I have the same issue. Eventually I was going to get around to trying a different kernel.
I am running the Kernel from the CM10 build:
3.0.53-dc2c1ebb
[email protected] #1
Mon Dec 3 21:32:25 PST 2012
As for the GAPPS I just installed the latest I could find with the ROM and then downloaded the latest Maps from the market.
Any recommendations on a good kernel to try?
This is a widespread issue for unrooted, stock users. It is documented in several forums, so it does not only affect you or other rooted users.
I am running CM10 12/05 build from IRC and used my Navigation with G maps for 2 straight hours today with no problems.
I am on the kernel it comes with. Before flashing CM10 I update prl, profile and make sure I have a GPS lock on a Sense rom. Then go into TWRP and wipe cache, dalvick, factory reset, and system a couple times each, flash CM10, I'm using the Captain's Gapps from IRC and it works fine for me.
I've never wiped the GPS data stuff or anything like that either.
YMMV though I guess
Naters
Naters,
I haven't tried using the IRC build...do you have a link / instructions on how to get that (and the GAPPS). I will try loading up MeanROM, getting a sense lock, and then switching to that build.
Thanks!

This is the link to get into the IRC channels.
Once you are in the DL link for the rom and Gapps will be at the top of the page.

Tried it, some problem unfortunately...I guess this is a YMMV type thing.
BTW, is that IRC channel a good place to get support for CM10? I was hoping to talk with the developers and try to help out with kernel logs or whatever may be useful.

Sorry it didn't work.
No clue why it works for some and not others.

Working now
I was having a lot of problems with the navigation until looked in the location access menu and selected the GPS source as "Use Internal GPS." It has been running smooth since then. :fingers-crossed: Hopes this helps.
Hi,
We have 2 Vibrant phones. 1 is on Paranoid Android 2.54 (via stock eclair, ICS Passion, Slim Bean 2.9 & 3.0) and works perfectly.
The second one was on ICS Passion for a long time and I have finally got around to (trying LOL) to update it.
Here is where the weirdness begins - Flashed PA 2.54 no problems, flashed and booted up, but no wi-fi, well no wi-fi icon, and it can find a couple of wi-fi networks belonging to my neighbours, but won't find my network, 2 rooms away. The network is obviously all good, I am sending this from my laptop through said network.
Obviously I need an internet connection to get through the phone setup, so I power down, throw the SIM back in and boot up only to find no cell data either.
Skip the google account setup and get to the home screen to check things further and I find:
Calls in/out work, and most things are running, but wi-fi won't co-operate, and nothing in the APN list? Baseband and IMEI all look normal, too.
Try to flash Slim Bean 2.9 as I put the zip on the phone at the same time as a fallback and I get EXACTLY the same thing...
Anyone able to shed any light on what would cause this? Anything else worth trying? I'd like to avoid Odin as it honestly scares me reading all the problems people on here have with it...
At this point I've tried flashing both ROMs a few times with exactly the same results, I also can't go back to the ICS nandroid as the partition setup has changed and the restore doesn't work...
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
Cheers...
I ended up flashing a 4.2 ROM (slim 4.2 beta 1) and it made the problem go away, I'm guessing something in the 4.1 base was broken and not getting overwritten on new installs?
ROM seems pretty sorted for a beta, few minor things not working, but hopefully it gives us a clean upgrade path...
Thanks.
I had the same issue with Slim 4.2 Beta 2. If anyone has a solution other than flashing the modem, please post.
Weird. The phone I was having this problem with now has that ROM on it and is working 100%.
I have a suspicion that flashing a ROM that uses a different kernel is what fixed it for us. I guess it just overwrites/replaces more stuff?
Maybe try hellybean 4.2 and see if it makes a difference, and if it does flash back to slim 4.2 and see if the problem comes back?
I have installed slim and other ROMs but not had this issue. Currently on jellybam

The weird part is that every other Slim Bean has worked great. I'll keep my fingers crossed for beta 3.
Hey everybody,
First off, what an amazing community. I've learned so much and it's become really easy and fun to enhance my Android experience.
I have a Verizon Note II and decided to flash PACMAN ROM because of it's multiple interesting enhancements based on CM10.
Everything works amazingly well, except GPS just will not lock while "Wi-Fi & Mobile network location" (WF&MNL) is enabled in the "Location Settings" section.
When WF&MNL is enabled, (along with GPS of course), I cannot get a lock no matter how long I leave the device searching. When I launch any of the GPS status applications loaded from the play store, the satellites never show up at all, no signal bars, no activity, let alone do I get a lock. It's like it won't even try.
When I disable WF&MNL and try again, the satellites show up in seconds and I have a lock shortly thereafter. I can then re-enable WF&MNL setting and it will work until I reboot, and I've also seen it stop working when I try to run another GPS app later in the day.
So, for anybody who needs a workaround until you find your individual solution, or until a fix is released . . . I offer that up.
The problem is Google Now relies on WF&MNL, as do other applications/services, so that is not really an option to leave it off . . . all in all, the pro's outweigh the cons for this ROM and I love everything about it!!
Here is what have done so far to troubleshoot:
Restored my factory backup which was taken in TWRP immediately after the bootloader unlock and root - No issues there. GPS works.
Wiped Cache/Dalvik/System and installed CleanROM - No issues there, GPS works.
Wiped Cache/Dalvik/System and installed three different versions of PACMAN in this order 20.0.0, 20.0.1, and 20.1.0 - Didn't help
Tried installing different versions of GAPPS with each of the PACMAN ROMS (latest as well as the one linked in the OP) - Didn't help
Re-flashed the VRALL4 modem based on some suggestions - Didn't help
Inserted a modified GPS.conf file based on some suggestions - Didn't help
Tried to flash a GPS fix from another thread (sorry I can't find the thread to save my life at the moment, it was one with a "generic google" fix since the GNII wasn't on the list) - Didn't help
Restored my post root factory backup again and did not wipe cache/dalvik/system when flashing PACMAN - Didn't help
I read some threads about going back to factory and then rooting/flashing clean all over again. I would have gone that route, but other ROM's work with both location options enabled, so I'm not sure where to look next. I've searched the forums high and low and haven't gotten anywhere with the suggestions.
EDIT: I should have probably posted this in the questions section, I went to general when I was denied access to post in another thread I was following. Sorry for the noob mistake.
Its a problem with the cm based roms or aosp 4.2.2 i just leave wifi and network unchecked and if apps ask or watever i deny it and it works fine im on cm 10.1 and use my gps daily without issues i dont even notice a problem

I have installed PAC version 21.0.1 and GPS is not working at all. the icon doesn't even appear, nothing to lock on. my Baseband version is 12.69a.60.29U_26.17.14.11_M.
Anyone has an idea on what to change? (except switcging to another ROM)
Get a lock in another rom then immediately restore your backup of pacman while it's still locked

Thank you! I was having this problem & thanks to you it works flawlessly now!
I have had nothing but pain and suffering since deciding to install CM 10.2 last night. I installed the latest stable version of CM 10.2.2 as well as the google apps pack and after several wipes (system, cache, data), it finally worked. The issue that I am not having is that it wont connect to the Verizon network.
I think the issue may be that in Mobile Network Settings>CDMA Subscription it is set to NV, and won't let me switch to RUIM/SIM. Another clue is that in the About Phone section, Baseband version is UNKNOWN. Any ideas?
EDIT: Ok, I updated to the latest CM version via the CM update process on the phone. looks like i am now on CM11 and i have network connectivity, though it is 1 bar of 3G. And now the google play store keeps throwing errors so i have to uninstall it.
I thought CM was a polished ROM that I could just install and go. I am now considering going with something else since I still cant get it working right.

You definitely want to be using CM 11! 10.2 is ancient at this point.
As for your problems. First, Sense based ROMs apparently show more bars for the same signal strength. To know if it is actually worse, you need to compare the numeric (db) signal strength. Second, did you also flash a kk gapps package?
I would recommend downloading the latest gapps-kk-* from http://goo.im/gapps and then in recovery do:
* factory reset
* format /system
* install cm 11 version of your choice (latest nightly or M8)
* install gapps
And see if that makes your life a little better.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. The reason i went with 10.2 is it was the latest "stable" version on CM's website. I wasn't sure what "snapshot" meant so i didnt do any of those. Then i eventually did download and flash the kk gapps but was still having issues.
I am following your steps above to start fresh again, though I was still having issue with the radio before though, so we will see if this helps.

LineageOS Android Distribution 14
Lineage OS Android Distribution is the continuation of the now discontinued CyanogenMod.
Instructions1. Make a Nandroid backup using TWRP or similar custom recovery if flashing from a different ROM.
2. Download the latest LineageOS ROM (uploading) and copy it to either the internal storage, an SD card, or an OTG usb drive.
3. Download a Nougat (7.1) Google Apps Package (GApps) for ARM devices if desired (OpenGApps recommended).
4. Boot into the custom recovery to flash the ROM and/or GApps .
5. Factory reset if flashing from a different ROM.

I can't seems to use external sdcard as internal there's simply no option to do it while formatting. Other then this it's pretty snappy thanks again.

Thanks for testing! Try the new Nougat build—I wasn't able to move apps onto the SD card (that is a LineageOS bug), but I was able to format it as internal storage.
I couldn't install the latest build 14.1 well just keeps bootlooping at the HTC screen.
Wipe
Install latest build
Install Gapps 7.1 (tried without installing this also) still no go ?

There appears to be an error in the build. I will upload a new build within a day.
Edit: New build has been uploaded! Please report if it works.
Never thought my Jewel would ever see Nougat (let alone Lollipop or Marshmallow). Just flashed and all is working well so far. Awesome work!
God tier work here, I'm blown away. I misplaced my Moto G 3rd gen somewhere in my apartment, so I've given up and dusted off my Evo. I was set to just use the Viper 4.1.1 that was on there, but some apps weren't installing so I came on ol' XDA. This is much more than I expected, thank you.
With that said, any tips on getting this to activate on Sprint / Ting? It was working fine on the old rom, but not kicking in here.
I know this isn't totally related to this ROM, but maybe it can be. I'm having issue with this (and most other ROMs I try) where the per button works physically, but only the buttons light up. I have to press the power button several times to get the screen to wake. This isn't consistent though. Seems worse if the screen has been off for a while. Does anyone know of a fix, and if so, can it be incorporated into this ROM? I know there have other threads about this but it seems like they have been dropped.

I believe that the service must be activated on a stock ROM before flashing a custom ROM. Then, the correct APN has to be set according to the carrier under Settings > More > Cellular networks > Access Point Names.

I am not sure of a fix, and I have not encountered this issue, but have you tried enabling Wake device using the Camera button under Settings > Buttons?

I've tried that in the past. Forgot about it this time around. Tried it again and it seems to be about the same as the actual power button for getting the screen to come on correctly.
Good ol' Jewel. Is this rom working ok?
My wife is temporarily using my old Jewel because she dropped & broke her crappy samsung phone. can someone please tell me how this rom is working?

The ROM is working fine for the most part. The battery is not great, but that may be due to the battery's age. Additionally, there is a bug with BoringSSL that sometimes prevents the Play Store or Gmail from working temporarily.
sounds good. yeah, I'm sure it's age. thanks man. take care-
Trouble with WiFi
Did a Full factory reset, installed rom, gapps, and supersu from TWRP, factory wipe again from TWRP; now the OS is installed and running but after connecting to my home network, says no internet access although the netork is up and running normally, all other devices connected. Any thoughts or suggestions. I have a backup of my previous state, so I can revert, but would like to keep this on 7.1 for consistency between this and my primary device. The primary use for this device is media streaming.

I believe that the WiFi issue have been fixed in the latest build (20170522).
Thank you for this rom!
I had been using cyanogenmod 5.0 and dirtyunicorns 5.1 both were solid roms. Unfortunately the latest apps seem to run a bit slow on them. I thought it was the device but after installing this rom everything is snappy! It manages 1gig of ram better than any other rom and that 1.5ghz dualcore still runs strong. Snapchat is way more responsive on this rom, instagram and fb run without problems. GPS, 4g, sms, wifi, camera, sd storage, everything works! I've only noticed a few bugs. The wifi activity arrows don't show when something is downloading/uploading but wifi itself does work. Also, even tho I have working active cell service, it tries to activate itself again everytime I reboot and fails but calls-sms-data continue to work lol. The biggest bug is that auto-rotation stops working after 30-60 minutes and it stays stuck on portrait mode. Nothing but a full reboot will get it working again, a quick softboot won't fix it. I've tried changing the rotation settings and also added some lines to the build.prop but no solution thus far. I love this rom so much, if it's not fixed I might try some auto rotation apps. One last thing, it would be cool if the # in the status bar would go away after I close whatever app has root. The previous rom I had did that. Thank you so much to all the developers for bringing life to this phone!

Thanks for trying out the ROM! The WiFi activity arrows are intentionally disable on LineageOS. I do not currently have an active cell service on this device, so I am unable to fix the activation bug for now. Could you flash the patch below in recovery and test if autorotation is working properly? It should also enable the option to hide the Superuser icon under "Status bar" > "System icons".
