[Q] ASUS App Backup - No data? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Has anyone had a problem with ASUS App Backup like this? I ran a backup last night just before downgrading to .15 so I could root the Prime, wiped data, then ran a restore. Appbackup (couldn't use Titanium as not rooted) says 'success' for all data, but nothing's actually restored.
I've tried clearing data as suggested in the app itself, along with uninstalling and reinstalling a load of stuff. Should I just accept it's all gone, or is there a way to look inside the backup file from something else and see what's in there?

I have the same exact problem. Glad I am not the only one!

Odd isn't it? I ended up getting most of what I needed from an old backup in the end. I didn't realise the backup file was too big - 300MBish backed up turned into a file almost a gig in size, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

I can't restore any file. I originally thought it was my password but then I ran a small backup test.
Here is what I posted on some other sites:
I backed up my apps using Asus's App Backup Program.
But when I try to restore an app, it won't open file no matter what password I try to enter, which I never set a password to begin with.
I tested this issue by just backing up one app with no password set and then trying to restore and once again it won't open the file.
Thank
Rob

Hi, I want to know if you ever happen to fix your issue with Asus' Backup App. I continue to have issues, even with doing simple one file backups. I can't open any file to restore.
I finally called Asus and opened case (case# 1866051) but they immediately wanted me to perform a 'wipe' first. I guess after that they will want to try a factory reset.
But I complained that I spent too much time setting my 300 for the look and settings that I like and that I need to backup everything first.
Of course, I can't backup using Asus' Backup app, since that is unable to restore. It is the issue!
So I need to find something else that will backup my settings so that I can't restore my unit to how it looks and is set.
I am rooted so I can using Titanium Backup. But I wish there was something else that I would not need root to use, that can backup my settings. Does anyone know if anything, that can do that without the need for root?
Also, I need to 'unroot' my device first before I start playing around with 'wipes and factory resets' I can't have that get in the way of all of this.
And in the end, if they offer to replace my 300, I need to send it back without any of the root stuff on it.
Please let me know if you've fixed your App Backup app and about any other backup programs that I can use that don't need root what will backup my settings.
Thanks!
Rob

Question about Restoring with Titanium Backup

I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.
Thanks for the help. You guys on here have been lifesavers.
Hi,
Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.
Anything else you need help with?
Nope. Thanks man. I just needed a few things cleared up before I went ahead and wiped my ext. You were a great help.
No problem, glad to have helped
you say it saves system settings...
so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom
i tried mybackup pro a long time ago and it didn't do this which is why i don't waste my time with that app. (that may be changed now, it's been about 8 months)
would I be able to Restore my backup if I have flashed a new rom without problems?
I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?
check at the new version, it has an alternative restore mode that you need to enable for it to work on the galaxy s
Another restore question
I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
Similar problem with no luck at reinstalling Att apps. I accidently deleted google talk and now cannot download new apps.
I have a similar question to the OP.
If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?
I have titanium backup stored in sdcard, this backup is settings/wallpaper, is possible to extract from this file only wallpaper, without restoring all backup to the phone??
My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.
Any help appreciated.
Thx

This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.
OK thanks. Will try it out.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?

Titanium Backup restore problems...

I was trying to do a restore with Titanium Backup to restore apps and data and everything in the batch list is greyed out with a line through it.. what gives?? So, I am unable to restore any apps. I am using the pro version, so I don't see what I paid for.
Can someone enlighten me on this. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to download something else?
thanks.
I believe you have to install the app first, idk but i did that with skype and got my data back

Greyed out with a line through them items are the apps that are not currently installed.
If you click on them, it should give you an option to restore, providing that you have backed them up before, of course.
Also, in batch mode, you can restore them all -or chosen ones- at once.
Did you expect to just open the app and your phone go back to the way it was before?
i have the same problem
it restored just few of them automatically
i believe i have to manually install the rest and then restore just the data
but isn't that stupid?
Has anyone found a way around that?
the developer said something about fixing the market link with market doctor option, but that's in the paid version
I spoke to the dev about it actually and he said there seems to be an error with my TBU, so I need to re-install and erase the backup folder and try and backup everything again and verify. I had to redo everything manually.
Thanks for the help though guys. I appreciate it..
I actually just removed TimeScape and a bunch of other useless (to me) stock apps. I did notice as well when I clicked on a greyed-out item that I had uninstalled, there was no restore button.
So I would have to manually restore everything I had backed up, delete the folder, and reinstall?
Hardly seems worth it. I would just reflash if/when I have to restore.
Is there any way to restore all applications with "one click restore"?
I'm getting tired of pressing accept-done for every applications.

yes...buy pro version
I am moving from a TB to the GIII, and am seeing the same issue. Only my installed apps are greyed out. I've copied a new one over, put the card in the other phone backed up and no change. Pretty strange. Time for a little googling...

Not all apps restoring with TB

Hello everyone,
I just got my S3 yesterday and have already rooted it and attempted to use Titanium Backup (TB). I was able to successfully restored a couple of apps, but the bulk of my apps wont restore. When restoring I am not receiving any errors, and it appears as it is processing/restoring them correctly, but when it finishes it says (it does say Restore complete), the apps do not appear in my app draw and in TB they have a line struck through them (typically means that it sees the backup information but it is not installed on the phone).
Anyone have any ideas?
Im on Sprint 16gb S3 and am coming from rooted OG Evo. I use the Root method found here
Thanks for your time and help
Maybe they are not compatible with ICS?

Did you try rebooting your phone?
Thanks for the quick replies guys. I have tried rebooting my phone and still no luck. I came from CM9 on the EVO so there shouldnt be a problem with ICS (unless there is something that I dont know). Thanks though.
I did download one app and it was a lot of steps but was able to restore the data for that app. I am going to see if I can find the files for my sideloaded apps and restore the data that way.
If anyone else has any idea why this isnt working in the first place I would love to hear about it. thanks
Did you try manually restoring the apps? Titanium backup won't mix old data with a new version of the app or vice versa. If an app updated and you have old data backed up with the app, you would have to manually restore the app if I remember correctly.
Thanks. I tried but it wont let me manually restore them. When i click on the app, the option to manually restore is not there (it happens both when I have or havent manually downloaded the app). I can see that it still says that the current rom/phone is my Evo. So i am wondering if that has to do with it....just really strange. wondering what i did wrong.
Check out titanium backups website and Check the troubleshooting page. I think it talks about transfering apps from different phones.

[Q] titanium backup restore

What's the best way to restore in titanium backup after flashing to a new ROM?
From an apps perspective, have the phone setup the way I want, apps frozen, etc I thought after flashing, I would be able to restore to that setup, but clearly doing something wrong. I do a batch restore and wind up will old apps, unfrozen apps and basically have to do the whole setup over.
Assuming this is user error, and hoping someone can provide insight. Do you create an update.zip and flash to that?
Thanks.
I don't believe you can save frozen app setups and such. All the update.zip does is allow you to flash titanium backup in recovery so you don't have to download it from market again and is just installed as a system app

You can choose what to restore when you you do that batch restore.
Maybe you are not setting it up right?
Every other night i have TB set to backup new data for selected apps,
New versions of selected apps
System data like messages, call logs, etc...
I can then restore them almost perfectly. Opera bookmarks give me fits, but that's about it.

Difference between dirty flash and full Titanium Backup restore?

The ROM that I use on my phone pretty much discourages dirty flashing updates [CM10.1 based]. So for the last 10 or so updates, I have clean wiped my HTC Rezound, then restored from a TitaniumBackup.
Except I do it a little different than most people, I think.
First I disabled compression of backups.
Then to restore I go to /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/
and run a bash command:
# for i in *.apk; do pm install "$i"; done
Then I go to TitaniumBackup, and every app is installed but doesn't have my data. So then I batch restore my data for my apps [Pretty much only user apps, except a few system things like SMS, WiFi networks]. But the problem is, recently, TitaniumBackup will quit halfway through a batch restore of "Data only." So I've been manually restoring data 1 by 1 for the apps that I need data to be saved across rom updates.
But then I thought, "Hey, why can't I just backup my /data/data/ folder?" but then I also thought that would probably be like a dirty flash, and I am just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this subject.
Thanks.

VERY EAGER to learn this as a flash-a-holic.
sigh well I tried restoring the /data/data/ folder from a tar backup, and the apps didn't have my data. [Both my launcher and 1 random game did not have my data, even after rebooting.]
Then I went to install TitaniumBackup from Play to restore my apps the way I do it usually, and then it had an error. It wouldn't install. So I tried wiping data in recovery, and then the setup wizard kept crashing after I completed it. It wouldn't let me launch anything, even Settings would crash.
So now I'm starting all over again. Currently doing a clean flash in recovery. Ugh.
I think the problem might be file permissions.

Well I checked and they seemed to be 751. I checked the other folders in /data and it looked the same.
Swiped from my Nexus 10 using xda-developers app
Restoring those setting from system apps will lead to issues. This is due to the way those settings are restored when changes are made to the programs for those settings.
Restoring with titianium backup is only advised for user apps and data
