[Q] HTC Amaze Tmobile ICS Update Disaster... - HTC Amaze 4G

Ok so this morning I tried to install the OTA update from Tmobile, and it crashed my phone. I tried factory reset and everything. I can boot into bootloder and recovery (I'm using TWRP v2.0), but factory reset does not work and the phone will not load past the white HTC screen.
Any thoughts on how to fix it?
FYI - The phone is unlocked through HTC and it is still S-On.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Search SEARCH SEARCH before posting..
It is said everywhere, especially the ICS THREAD that you must be fully stock in order to flash stock rom. This means unrooted, back to stock recovery and back to stock locked bootloader.
Search first please before creating any more threads. I am positive the right threads were suggested in dup thread check before you posted this. Read please.

I've posted this in a few other threads, but I want to reiterate that you do NOT have to relock the bootloader. Mine was unlocked (no other modding done), and the OTA update went without a hitch. Maybe I got lucky somehow and it was some sort of fluke, but it all went swimmingly for me.

I don't get why people say search a bunch of times, yet still answer the question, lol!

I tried to get back to stock recovery, but it won't work for some reason.

You don't have to relock the bootloader, just download one of the stock GB RUU files, place it on your sd card, rename it to PH85IMG.zip and reboot into bootloader, it'll restore everything to stock, check for software update and proceed updating to ICS.

Unrooting Htc Rezound

I am on stock of about everything and really want to return to unrooted. I've been looking forever now and can't find any answers on unrooting (especially while on stock). I've seen one thread about this, but the question about unrooting while on stock was never answered. If anybody knows how to please help
You should be able to just RUU back to unrooted stock. Or the OTA update that rolled out yesterday will unroot it.
The ota wont update because the recovery is present. Thats pretty much why i'm unrooting. And the ruu wont work

You'll have to flash the stock recovery and relock the bootloader to get the OTA. You can't run the RUU with an unlocked bootloader either. There are several threads in the development section on the procedure. I would advise giving it a little time myself. See how the new radio and hboot work out.
Do you know where i can find the stock recovery? Can't seem to find it. and even after relocked, ruu still wont work

1. Not sure whether you need to relock the bootloader or not.
2. Run the RUU
3. If you locked the bootloader, re-unlock it, flash Amon RA
4. Amon Ra has a menu option to re-root the phone.

Definately need to relock to run the RUU, and I think you need to be on stock recovery for it to work as well. There is a thread that explains how to get back to rooted stock search the development thread or this one. It was popular when the OTA came up . Sorry I have no idea how to post links or I would.
ok thanks. If someone could post a link, it would be very helpful.....thanks guys
First of all, you really should use the search function. This has been gone over in many, many threads already. From what people have posted in response to you you really could have searched RUU and found an answer I'm sure. You could also search "ICS Stock" and come up with a thread. I say all this because people keep posting new threads without doing research and it is cluttering up the board and is getting frustrating. Also, you learn a lot more about this stuff if you read up about it.
That being said... follow the link and info in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22660531&postcount=12
You also need to have HTC Sync installed on your computer and put the phone in fastboot. You don't need to flash stock recovery first. Also, when you relock your phone will say SECURITY WARNING in pink where it says RELOCKED. You can ignore that. Make sure you back up anything and everything you want to save as this will really wipe your phone for reals.
If you get any mainver errors search for the Awesome Recovery Tool in the dev section which should help you automate any mainver work arounds you may need.

Sorry. Geesh I did search but I guess I wasn't using the correct words to get the help I was looking for. That's why I posted the thread. I was going to sell the phone that's why I was putting it back stock the root is fine. But that looks pretty complicated so maybe I can sell it the way it is.

Well, as I mentioned above, it's getting frustrating with all the threads asking the same thing.
Anyway, it's actually really easy. I did it over the weekend because I wanted to start with a clean slate. Just download the RUU, make sure you have HTC Sync installed but not running, put phone in fastboot, relock phone, double click on RUU. It will do it's thing and then you're done. It takes about 15 minutes or so for the RUU to run.
Otoh, someone might like the fact that there's ICS on it so you may get some nice bids on it if you put it up on eBay.

Except that's the outdated RUU. Use the one in my linked post above.
If I am running cleanrom GBE, will these steps take me back to stock as well?
What I am supposed to do:
Download latest RUU
Flash stock recovery (put on root of sd card, and flash in recovery)
relock in fastboot (is that thru adb?) (fastboot oem lock)
run RUU (this is where I am confused, how do I run it? Like flash it?
then I should be bone stock?
If I wanted to root, I would flash amon ra
Install SU to root.
Miss anything?
Sorry, its a little different than modding samsung devices.
Thanks for you help and pateince
Heather
Yes, but you actually don't need to flash stock recovery first. To run the RUU just double click on the RUU file. It will open up a window and there is a ReadMe (or something similar) button. Click that and read it for more info on what to expect when running it.
Before you run it make sure you have HTC Sync on your pc. It shouldn't be running, just needs to be there.
Also, follow the linked post in my post above for latest version that has a working download link if you don't already have it.
And make sure you have backed up anything and everything you need because this really will wipe your internal sd card. I would back up your external sd card too for good measure. Can't be too safe.
I'm a noob in terms of the HTC rooting process.. Very familiar with the Moto Droid series, so different terms, I guess. Can you explain why the HTC Sync has to be installed, but not running? I've already unlocked my Rezound, after the OTA, and am running CleanROM 3.1. I actually had HTC Sync installed at first, but instead of disabling it, I uninstalled it. It worked like a charm with HTC Sync uninstalled. Maybe I'm an idiot and it's a whole different issue. Like I said, I'm a noob. Just wanted to see why it worked that way from someone who seemed like they would know.
It's to get the HTC drivers for the phone onto you computer.

Get Back to STOCK ROM? (Help Please)

Yesterday I flashed to the Charmeleon rom using TWRP. Stupidly I didn't make a backup of the stock rom and part of the process is wiping the current rom completely, which I did. Now it seems like I'm stuck with no way to get back to my stock rom. If there is ANY WAY to get back to the complete, full stock rom my EVO LTE came with, PLEASE explain to me how to do it! Thanks in advance for anyone who offers their help.
Well 1 you're in general so you're in the wrong section. 2 Yes! you can go back to stock WITH OUT your stuff using a RUU
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655733
Or flash the stock rooted rom.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
Ok quick question, I found RUU files here - http://stockroms.net/file/HTCEvo4GLTE/RUU, and the link you gave me has 3 new ones... can anyone tell me which one is current?

your supposed to flash the same one that on your phone now... go into menu in about.. software info.. more.. build number.. mines is 1.13651.1 so thats the ruu that i would run... check to see what build u got and run that ruu and u golden!
Well that's my problem, none of those are on my phone, the Charmeleon rom is. I completely wiped the stock rom away which is what I'm trying to get back. Am I not able to do so?
An ruu is run from your pc, a rom is flashed through your recovery. Not to be a ****, but I think you should have read
a lot more about all of this before you started. So download the stock rooted rom from the dev section, boot into recovery, wipe everything but your sd card, and flash the rom just like you did before.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
Yeah sorry man, I'm just getting ahead of myself a bit because I've been searching this for the last (literally) 8 hours freaked out that I've done permanent damage to my phone. There's so many variations and believe it or not, there isn't a lot on this for this particular phone. Thanks to all you guys though, you all helped me a lot. Appreciate it.
The most recent build is 1.13, so you want to flash the stock rom of that build. It's always good to have the current ruu on your computer as a precaution, it can bring your phone back from the dead most of the time. Other than than its pretty easy, i'm on my phone so I can't post a link, but all you need should be in the stickies in the development section.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
Okay guys ran into antother quick problem. My bootloader was unlocked and in order to install the RUU it has to be locked. So I re-locked it and my phone will only start into the bootloader, with a 'security warning' on the screen. I now found out that if you have a custom rom installed when you re-lock the bootloader, you can only start into the bootloader until you run the RUU. So now I'm basically trying to find out how to run the RUU without actually being into my phone.

Like thwese guys said, if u want to take your phone into Sprint for any reason, just flash the Stock Rooted ROM. The RUU will take your phone back to it Original state, but u need to relock your Bootloader before u run that. But dont run the RUU and all that, just to have a Bacjup of a stock ROM. That would just be silly. flash the Stock Rooted ROM, and make a backup of that. It will be no different from having the Original Stock ROM. Only differnce is, is that it has SU and Busybox installed with it. SO your fine. No worries

Everything worked. So now I'm completely back to the stock rom as if I had just taken the phone out of the box?

[GUIDE][GBtoICS]FOR INTERNATIONAL/ASIAN VERSION/UNBRANDED Amaze Owners-Read1st

*****Disclaimer: As always, though there is little risk in doing this, if you turn your device into a building material (brick), blow it up, or it vanishes in thin air, I will not be responsible*****
****IF YOU HAVE AN UNBRANDED aka ASIA VERSION aka Factory Unlocked HTC AMAZE, PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE THREAD BEFORE DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR PHONE. MAKE SURE TO READ THE FIRST & SECOND POST****
***The following is a brief description of the very common scenario that most new users with the Unbranded unit have encountered lately. Please read it now so you can hopefully avoid going through it in the future***
**SO, you got yourself an HTC AMAZE 4G that is UNBRANDED (also referred to as INTERNATIONAL VERSION, ASIA VERSION, Carrier-free, or Factory Unlocked) Congratulations! And welcome to our forum..
Now, if you haven't noticed yet, the Unbranded Amaze comes with stock Gingerbread (GB) as the Android OS. So you look and see that IceCreamSandwich (ICS) was officially released by HTC for the amaze. SO of course you go straight to settings>about phone>update, your so excited to get ICS on your new Amaze, THEN BAM!! Your phone says everything is currently up to date. But how? GUESS WHAT, THERE IS NO OFFICIAL ICS BUILD FOR THE UNBRANDED AMAZE.. Soo THEN you maybe do a little research and learn you can manually flash an ICS RUU to your phone, you just need to find the RUU for your carrier.. BUT wait, oh no, you don't have a Carrier so there is no RUU. THIS is when most people make a common MISTAKE. They decide to Unlock the bootloader an their phone, flash a Custom Recovery, and then flash a custom ICS Rom and think it will be Fine, but when they try to turn on the phone it just get's stuck on the boot logo.. Now begins the freaking out, the obsessive duplicate thread creating, such as "HELP Trying to get ICS on my unbranded Amaze" or "Flashed Custom ICS rom on my Unbranded Amaze running GB 2.3 now phone is stuck on boot logo IF YOUR PHONE IS ON GB, YOU CAN NOT FLASH A CUSTOM ICS ROM UNTIL YOU HAVE FLASHED THE ICS RUU OR FIRMWARE PACKAGE. UNFORTUNATELY, YOU CAN NOT FLASH AN ICS RUU ON AN UNBRANDED AMAZE UNTIL YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE STEPS IN THE GUIDE BELOW!
ENJOY**
*[GUIDE] Now, i will explain step-by-step how to MANUALLY upgrade from GB to ICS on an UNBRANDED Amaze, and hopefully avoid the headache others are facing.
1.) Make sure you have required HTC drivers installed
2.) Download Hasoon's All-In-One Toolkit
3.) Unlock your bootloader through htcdev.com (hasoon's toolkit can help)
4.) Now perform S-Off. You have to be on Stock Ruu to perform S-OFF, so best to do it now while you are still on stock
5.) Once you successfully S-OFF your device, you will then need to SuperCID your device
6.) When your device is S-Off and has SuperCID, you can then download this Amaze_ICS_RUU ..Rename the RUU to PH85IMG.zip and place it on the root of your EXTERNAL SDcard. Once this file is on the SDcard, do a battery pull, then turn the device back on while holding down the VOLUME DOWN button. it will prompt you to install, select yes and YAY, you will now be on ICS.
7.) Take the PH85IMG of the RUU off of your SDcard, and then put this PH85IMG of HBOOT on to the SDcard. Repeat the same instructions as step 6 to flash this IMG.
8.) Congratulations, you now have stock ICS. If you would like to flash custom ICS or JB roms, continue with steps 9 & 10
9.) Finally, Use Hasoon's toolkit to, Flash 4EXT Recovery AND
10.) Then to flash supersu.zip to gain root (also done using hasoons toolkit)
OH AND ALSO, you weren't thinking about creating a new thread asking anything about this topic were you? I hope not, seeing as all these people already did. these were all found only on pages 1-6!!! I didnt even have to use the search feature...

If you have already made the mistake of unlocking and trying to flash an ICS rom while still on GB, you can do the following to get back to GB and have a working device.
ATTENTION - Before continuing past this point, You must first have 4ext installed as your recovery if the device is S-Off.(you can use hasoons AIO toolkit to do this.) Once you have 4ext flashed, boot into recovery and in the settings Enable Smartflash
1) Download this GB rom
2) Next, Place the the downloaded file on your sd card.
3) Now Boot into 4ext recovery (battery pull, then start phone while holding down the power+VolumeDown buttons simultaneously).
4) Once in recovery, go to the Wipe/Format section and select "Format all partitions except SDcard"
5) Finally, after formating completes, verify that you have SmartFlash enabled & then flash the Rom you just downloaded from above..
Once this is complete, you should once again have a working device.
Please use this thread for any related questions/comments you may have so we can try and keep the forums a little more organized and clean. THANK YOU

Hi there,
I have done the same mistake that is mentioned in the start of this post. I have unlocked the bootloader. Flashed the custom 4EXT recovery and without doing the S-OFF thing (pardon me for doing this) but i tried to install the CM 10 ruby NIGHLTY rom. At first my mobile (Htc Amaze 4G) stuck during boot at the white htc screen. I then read many posts but none of them help as i am totally a newbee on this issue. Then I some who came to know that I must have not wiped out the previous data due to which this problem has occurred. So i went to wipe through the recovery and wiped Cache, Delvik Cache, performed system wipe and finally the factory reset. Then i rebooted the phone in recovery mode and flashed the CM10 rom. To my surprise it installed completely and when i rebooted the phone it booted up quite normally with Cyanogen mod ROM but stuck into a boot start loop. Moreover the gsm did not work on it. Please Help from here when i dont have my stock ROM in back up so really need you help please.

Hi, aj_2423,
I have followed the instructions that you gave in post # 2. I have 4EXT as my custom recovery. I have SMART EXT FLASH enabled but when i tried to use the command "format all partitions (except sdcard)" i noticed that there is an error which said
"Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
All partitions formatted."
I just want to ask that is this normal or i have to do something else to remove this problem.

Hi the first thing you should do is take some time and READ the steps above first. Also i think youtube has videos you can watch.
Just type in 'htc amaze root' or something.
Dont worry if its not "your type" of amaze...they are all the same except fr the ruu and radios, just become familiar.
Build some confidence come back and follow the steps.
Honestly its not that hard and once you are comfortable its easy actually. Read through some of the other steps even though it doesnt relate to your type of amaze. Im sure aj wil chime in but read up first!!! Hasoons kit really simplifies stuff.
Again reas EVEYTHING THROUGH FIRST lol youll save your self hadaches later.

4.) You have to be on Stock Ruu to perform S-OFF, so best to do it now while you are still on stock
7.) Finally, Use Hasoon's toolkit to, Flash 4EXT Recovery. Then to flash supersu.zip to gain root.
8.) Now you have stock ics and can keep as is, or you can fflash a custom ICS rom /QUOTE]
I am running windows 7 64 bit version but the website for doing S-OFF procedure states that they only support windows 32 bit versions. So now what i understand from here that the only solution for me to get the S-OFF is to install the windows 32 bit version and then do the process. Please tell me is there any other solution possible?

[Q] Problems returning to 100% stock (Header errors)

Hey everyone,
Was wondering if I could get some help returning my HTC One back to stock. I had it flashed with Google Play Edition and want to bring it back to the stock Sense rom + stock recovery. I have tried using the RUUs and have problems with every one of them (Stuck at 5% checking headers and others I can't remember). I have also tried extracting the rom.zip and flashing that through fastboot but I get error 32 header error). Not really sure what the header is, but hopefully you all can help me figure it out.
Right now my phone is S-OFF, locked bootloader with revone, stock recovery, HBOOT 1.54, and baseband 4T.2.1.3218.21. I had superCID before but brought it back to ATT (CWS_001) but still won't flash the stock roms.
Let me know what you think is wrong, thanks!

I have the same problem, but I looked at the post you posted and I didn't find the solution. Could you explain a little more what you did??

So I tried using the directions in the link (which was for an M8 not M7) but it ended up not working for me.
I don't remember what I did exactly, but I ended up with a corrupted /data partition. So I just formatted it, flashed CWM, then used it to sideload a stock ROM and it worked for me. Unfortunately I still don't know how to get a stock RUU to work.

This should be in Questioms and Answers Forum as this has nothing to do with development.
