[Q] The most clean, stable ICS ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
I've been looking a while for a stable and clean ICS ROM, but the recommendations I've found are months old, so probably out of date by now. Therefore, I was wondering, what is the most stable ICS ROM which is clean/pure Google ICS?
Cheers!

Cm9
Formula 1
After this, this thread is going to be locked

Symbian.
I.E try a bunch of roms out until you find one you like.

That's what's the Original Android Development thread is for.
I use SlimICS and its the closest to pure Google you can get, no bloatware or unnecessary apps at all.

I'm sorry but I hear this a lot but you see, pure ics is what comes with nexus and close to it is cm9 and formula 1.
Slim ics as name suggests is skimmed down version of that, he even changed the launcher thus it no more pure ics what comes with nexus from google.

Please just read the ROM threads and search and make your own determination.
Thanks

i just need it to take pictures use whatsapp, phonecalls and internet.

Well, there is a stable version of CM9, and a nightly after that stable version with a few more fixes I believe. Otherwise, try resurrection remix, slim ics, etc.

what about that CM10 u have is that very unstable? what about the other Roms are the better?
Thanks for the prompt reply!
It's dressed up differently, but if you break it down, it's still basically asking this question.

I use CM10 as my daily driver. It's usable and better than CM9 in my opinion. BTW, I still don't get your problem. What feature are you exactly looking for?

All three are fine. CM10, being based on Jellybean is the newest, with really few bugs (which will hopefully get fixed once Samsung released Jellybean for the S2). Try CM10, otherwise go back to CM9. Make sure to do a nandroid backup of CM9 before moving on, so that if you feel CM9 is better, you don't have to go through setting it up all again.
This thread is becoming more of a "what's the best ROM?" type which is discouraged. You need to check these things yourself as preferences differ from user to user and handset to handset.

I recommend resurrection remix 3.0.5.
I use it as my daily driver. It is very fast and stable.
Work almost everything.... what I need.

[Q] Where can I find the latest stock unbranded rom?

I currently have CM10 Night-lies and I only have one complaint about it. The Bluetooth controls on my stereo cause it to freeze up. I hit dial on my car stereo and the screen turns black, and the battery has to be removed to get it to respond again. So I've decided to stop testing the latest and greatest and go something usable and stable.

Thanks but I fould the leaked JB 4.1.2 more my liking. I really didn't understand how to locate the UNBRANDED ROM there. The branded ones were easy. Then you get all sorts of other rom codes like OX and XXL and crap like that which I didn't understand.

They're also on xda in the S2-section. Please search for it. Or flash a custom rom based on it. There are some roms that are way better than the 'official' leak *couch*Neatrom*couch*.

Rom Suggestions

I am looking for a like stock rom with google now if it exists, does anyone have any suggestions?
Pretty much all of the cm10 based roms have it.

Welcome to XDA. I suggest you try several ROMs and then decide on what you want to keep. (Asking for ROM recomendations is really not a good idea. It's like asking which lady is the best at Miss World.)
Padawan has all I need, even Google now. Only downside for some and not me is, it doesn't have NFC
Best Stockish Rom IMHO
Or you can do what I did. Downloaded cm9 Stable, flash google now for ics and other stuff I put in my self.
It's like running JB but with no Reboots. GL
As stated, just try the ROMs out and you determine what is best for you, Thanks and here some help for you:

You may want to read the Development Threads and see what other users have experienced.
I myself use Carbon with the Uber Kernel.

Thanks for the reply! I've been going through it. I am new to rooting and would want a nice ROM to go hand in hand with my Note. There are so many different ROMS making it very confusing! Is there a consensus on what the 'best' ROM is? Or could you explain to me the benefits of the one you are using and where I can get it? Thanks alot again.
You can get carbon under the Original Development Thread. It has had the least amount of reboots for me but there are many fine 4.2.2 ROMs offered here.
Asking for the "best" can start a flaming thread, since its very much a personal choice.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Ure most likely to get reboots in all 4.2.2 roms n most likely camera issues...until they release an official stable 4.2.2 rom then that'll be the rom u are looking for..to get less reboots I turn profiles off in settings n disable hw hardware layout...try that with any rom see what happens...

Best advice........read read read
As suggested by others look at development. It depends what YOU want or are looking for. Many 4.2 have issues. Mainly reboots. Some flicker in screen.
What i do is find rom that looks interesting in features to me. Then i go to end of thread and read backwards. Lets me know the more recent issues and if there are fixes or tweaks to compensate.
Lots of bells and whistles in 4.2 but sometimes we sacrifice stability.
Your choice........good luck and go slow.

In my own experience the most stable i717 4.2.2 rom is sons of android build 4, all other 4.2.2 roms I've tried where Awful for hot reboots and screen flickering. As always, make sure you do a full wipe before installing anything, happy flashing!

CyanogenMod 10.1.2 has been the smoothest ROM for me, with the best battery life. I use SD-Booster, Autokiller, and Greenify (apps) as well, which give me super speed, super smoothness, and eternal battery life.
Since this change, not a single reboot, screen flicker, or other Android 4.2 issue.

Help for a Noob?

Hey guys,
I'm a new user and I know how great this forum is, i've lurked without an account for a little while. I have an international GT-i9300 and I wanted some advice on roms, how to load them and what steps should be taken.
I already have CWM installed and have root. I regularly use titanium to back up my apps and system data (just incase). But I want more control. I preferably want a rom to get me better battery life, as i'm out all day normally and the stock is just... terrible. I also hate touchwiz. I wanted some links to other threads and perhaps some tutorials to get me started. Helpful XDA users answer my call please.

Actually has no secrets for installing a custom ROM on your phone.
You can find other ROMs here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2218825
Where: AOSP system based on pure Google.
I can not tell you what would be best for the battery, which would be best in performance, looks, is very relative. But I like Temasek ROM, android 4.4 kitkat, and his kernel is very customizable, performance may vary from User to User.

Well, usually the ROMs with better battery are the Touchwiz based ones....since Samsung has not released the Exynos sources, its hard to create an AOSP ROM that doesnt have some battery problems, although the existing ones are pretty good.
If you were looking for an AOSP looking ROM, there is the Ultima ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911572 It includes the Jelly Bean Domination theme, which is basically AOSP theme for Touchwiz, and some AOSP apps. Unfortunately, the devs haven´t updated to 4.3 yet-I think there are plans for so, at least until they finish porting the JB Domination theme to Samsung 4.3
There is one ROM that uses some AOSP looks, the Nightmare ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330827 . I can´t tell how much does this look AOSP, so its up to you.
And finally, if you are searching for a pure AOSP ROM, the ROMs I liked more were Slim Bean, Temasek CM and Archidroid.
Also, for kernels, I am enjoying Yank kernel on my Touchwiz ROM, through in my AOSP times I used Temasek and Boeffla...
I hope this helped for you. Remember, there is no best ROM, its personal and depends on each phone, I am just sharing some examples based on your desires.
