swype? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I tried to install swype but it wont seem to work, i just get this: http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/9071/screenshot2012052211152.png
Can someone help me figure out what's wrong?

Same here, may be an issue with some custom asus stuff....
(Maybe the same which prohibits downloading the offline map for Wi-FI Finder?)
// edit: Reinstalling solved the problem

reinstalling? I tried reinstalling the swype downloader twice and it still gave me the error

Swype might not have been updated to work on ICS?
Just fyi, but the Asus keyboard also supports Swype-like text input. It might not have all of the same features included in Swype but it works basically the same way and as well.
IMO Swype is far less convenient when your keyboard is large like it is on the Transformer Prime. You just have to move your finger so much farther in order to hit letters and spell out words, but then again to each his own.

I was able to figure it out but thanks anyways

the newest swype beta is tablet compatible.
the keyboard itself is resizeable so you can actually use it with 1 thumb.

Swype for HD2 Android

Can someone point be in the right direction on how to get swype for the hd2 running android?
yes i would like to know too im not used to typing im used to swyping
http://www.mediafire.com/?my2apyivhuua7qy
there you go. I reuploaded it for you guys. Someone posted it earlier but I seem to have forgotten where
i believe shapewriter is still on market....use it... wonderful app for swype
looks like shapewriter was pulled from the market. The last available version was 3.0.9. It is available in the wild and the company that apparently owns the code isn't providing an alternative. In my opinion they are using the code in their paid non android keyboard apps.
Seems like swype is the next "display rotation" controversy. Companies are desperate to hold onto something to corner the market IMO. The swype beta also expired. I haven't found any available swype apps anywhere. I think there is one in the market but it's expensive. Preying on desperation. Guess we all have to pony up or buy a new phone.
Sorry to be negative, maybe it'll get better but be careful of copywrites guys. The software development world is looking for the next cornerstone after the hardware world has trickled us up to a point we don't need to buy a new phone every 3 months. They don't make cars like they used to do they?
**Edit** SlideIT is the app. Not sure of the price atm as I'm back in WinMo for a moment to upload these apks and I'll let you know which one is decent. But again, whichever it is, it may not last forever as the only one that was legally free with a lifetime ownership was shapewriter 3.0.9 but it may lose kernel support at anytime. Maybe android or some dev will create an alternative. I'm sure patents are all out there on this by now. Stupid but whatever.
I've tried numerous swype.apks for the past week or so and none is as responsive as the original. maybe its because android is still ran through the SD that swype (also ran from SD) is conflicting? but this is my opinion...
i've tried the swype apk from the EVO and DESIRE. desire link is dead but the EVO link is floating around somewhere still.. BUT, responsiveness is no where to be found. its slow.
I'm using the red themed version from this Droid Incredible thread and with the 7/23 zImage there is next to no lag. It works just about as well as it does in WinMo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701198
Tested both the above Swype and found Shapewriter 3.0.9. Both gave me Force Close errors and I had to switch to stock. Going to try the Droid keyboard now
**Edit (again)** Sorry, bad information. I was trying to use the apps by just dropping them in the AndroidApps folder. I uninstalled them and reinstalled using Astro and it looks like they all may be working. I'll have to do some testing to see what works the best. I apologize
Thanks for all the suggestions on this and posting a link to the Shapewriter 3.0.9 file looks like it may be a grey area in regards to copy-writes as I think you had to get it from the market while it was still hot which looks like it was brought down early June. O well.
This is probably a retarded question but how do you install the file once you've downloaded it to your SD card? Or do I need to download it from within Android to run it?
Nevermind, figured it out. Thanks anyway.
You can use Astro or Dropbox and just click the .apk file to open it. If the file you find is .apk.zip just remove the .zip. You may have enable Windows to show file extensions to do that.
Astro is in the Android Market
Dropbox is an app for your PC and an app for the phone so you can transfer files without rebooting into Windows everytime.

Yeah I noticed the mention of Astro and went and got it and figured it out. Thanks anyway for the information without even meaning to give it lol.
Anytime, I'm just killing time waiting to see if GPS is going to be compiled tonight. I should probably just get some sleep. So looks like the post xanderdad referenced is what I will stick with. It's the only thing out there that's available that's free and updated. It's working fine so far so unless there's something better, I'll stop bumping this thread constantly.
Thanks for bringing this topic up dbiggs and everyone that replied. Hope I was of any help. This app is a must without a physical keyboard IMO.
Any reviews or anyone try the driod red one? My Swype is almost unusable it's so slow to respond. But i don't think it's a swype option. Cause when i set the pattern unlock code on mine, i have to draw really slowly cause it lags behind as well. Unless i just had an old one

I am using the Green HTC one so looks like these 2 are decent options. The others worked fine too but I think I'm sticking to this one.
After the .apk is installed go to Menu > Settings > Language and Keyboard and Check the keyboard you want to have available. Then find an empty text box and long press till you see Input Method and then just select the keyboard you want.
Additionally, there are some settings within the Language and Keyboard you can tweak around to make it a little faster but it's pretty good stock. It takes a bit to load the first time and like anything, if you have a lot of apps running in the background, live wallpaper, old Android image and widgets while running on a Class 2 SD card it will probably be slow. Change as much of that as you can and it should get faster with newer Android builds and if\when NAND is in place to run off internal storage.
I've used swype for almost the entire time I was in windows and cannot even compare the speed to swype on this android. Swype on android right now is slow. This is using the EVO swype, and DROID swype (above post). Droid swype is much faster than the EVo, but still, will not compare to the swype from windows. I cannot even speed swype lol...
I'll wait patiently for faster builds in the future. For now, its back to the stock froyo keys.
And yes.. I've done almost ALL that is possible to speed my hd2oid up. Swype is still slow.
Ok, i got the droid keyboard with the 7/23 zimage, and holy smokes this is a godsend... it's basically identical to the winmo version. So glad it worked out good.
Not getting swype keyboard on darkstone's froyo .. I have zimage of 23rd as well
I Have enabled swype from the keyboard settings.

does a how to find anybody know where I could find a french version of swype for froyo???
NEW version 1.60.36.8214
Hello,
i found this 2 apk for swype from evo4g xda forum
So i ask for your help on how to add the italian language to the modded version and how to install it since it's a zip file and the recovery tips didnt worked for me since when hd2 reboot, it obviously reboot into windows.
Can please someone post the "mic version" with italian language or all languages?
Thank you in advance
why dont yall just sign up for the beta, it takes like a day or two foor you to get an invite back, and you always get the most up to date version.
at least, thats what im doing.
Also, swype is working for me as fast as ever. i never have any lag in the trace line or the responsiveness. its probably because you guys are using old versions of swype.
You need to sign up for the beta and you will be able to get the most current version of swype.
I was going to upload the current version of swype that i have, but i could not find it in the tree anywhere. normally all applications install to /system/app but this was not the case for swype.
if anyone can find out where swype installs itself, please let me know and i will be more than happy to throw the current versios of swype up for download.

[Q] Swype not writing what I want...

So I think this is a problem. Sometime when I swype certain word, I don't get the word I want. It's almost like the swype program had its own idea of which word I was trying to spell. For example, it doesn't know the word funny. I had to add to the dictionary. It also keep giving me "knorr" when ever I tried to write know.
I can only think of a few possibilities. (1) the original swype dictionary database isn't an american version (maybe uk english). (2) my touch screen calibration is off.
I'm am using axura's build, version 2271. I wonder if anyone is experiencing similar problem. I have tried adjusting the accuracy/spewed meter to no avail. I have used swype before on my hd2 (wm6 + android version) and never had this problem even though the screen calibration on my hd2 android was off.
Any advice, guys? Much thx.
I think couple of older versions of swype had that problem. Upgrade to newest one and it is much better. Just sign up for beta at their website and install the new one.

I had the same problem with a couple of different roms. I just retrained it. It does make you wonder tho
Like the 2nd poster said, some versions of swype are missing words. If you go to the Bionix V discussion thread, there is a new version of Swype. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that would work fine with Axura. I would flash that if I were you. I had that problem and it pissed me off until I found out about it (in the SBG thread somewhere, I think).
download latest swype.apk
go into your files on phone, with w/e u use.
system/lib/
delete swypecore.so
go to system/app/
delete swypetips.apk and swype.apk
go back to system/lib/ make sure the swypecore.so is not there, if it is delete it.
reboot, you must reboot.
now put the new swype.apk in system/app/
now use swype installer from www.beta.swype.com
to update your language files, and BAM you got you a new language pack and new swype.
Much thanks for all the help, guys. One more question, do these beta expires? The last couple of them I have (on my HD2) kept on expiring which was really annoying (but not as annoying as dealing with the bad words my swype is outputting).
Thanks again.
Update: Alright. Got it all sorted out. Much thanks, guys. This was driving me nuts. The newest swype also look pretty nice too.

swype beta now supports WSVGA

i haven't had a chance to try it on my NC yet, but i think we might now be official.

Honeycomb build 4 not working w swype
I installed todays swype and i can tap out words but not swype. I know i am using the right keyboard because it does trace but the words wont display.... Honeycomb build 4.
Works great for me on CM7 v14
It looks great but I can't actually use the swype function, like the poster before said.
Running CM7 and when I swype the border flashes blue but no word appears. Otherwise, it's nice to see some large screen support from Swype. I love it on my Vibrant
Doesn't work for me (NF 0.6.8.3). I can type but can't Swype.
It worked for a second then quit, cm7 v14 Keyboard is nice for fat fingers. Soo close.
I have phiremod v4.1 and the swype does as the others said; I can see the keyboard and the swpe gestures, but no words appear, I can tap them out as with the regular android keyboard, but swyping does nothing. It does make a noise after a swype gesture though.
Also when I put the NC in landscape view, the skype app takes up the entire screen.
still not able to try on my NC, but when swype does that behavior on my nexus one, if i switch to the android keyboard then back to swype through the input method selector, everything works great.

You may well be my hero. I can't confirm that it worked for sure, as it threw a licensing fit since I used it on HC instead of CM7, so I'll revert back to HC and try this again. The licensing fit never occurred until I tried what you suggested.
Tried that method of switching to Android KB and back, still didnt work for me, same as everyone else.
I'm getting the same results on CM7 v17. I'm also getting a message that says swype is configured for another device and may not work correctly when I first switch over to it.

yeah, shoot, me, too. eMMC Honeycomb 2nd edition.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I have read in another thread that Nookie Froyo tends to spout random IMEI numbers when an app asks about the device it is installed again. Swype authenticates the beta by IMEI and you are limited as to how many IMEIs you can install it on. Thus the licensing problem - install Swype and it locks itself to the reported IMEI. Then run it again, and it thinks it's installed on another device.
Licensing errors
I'm also getting licensing errors but the keyboard does appear to load correctly on, CM7 #17,
damn. Was so excited too. Wont swype. Have been dying to put it on my NC, typing on this thing sucks.
Sometimes the betas get hacked (but no posting warez here!) so they are not IMEI locked anymore. Unless we can figure out a way to report a stable IMEI on the NC across all firmwares per device, that may be our best bet .
Will try when the WSVGA will be supported in french..
Yes I can confirm what is being said here about the IMEI... Definitely the root cause here as reported on the swype official forums.
The way I see it, this can be worked around without the need to hack the Swype package. My understanding is all we need to do is spoof the telephony stack a little better, so that the IMEI is consistent. I am at work so I cannot do too much to find out how hard that would be.
android API call for getting IMEI is
android.telephony.TelephonyManager.getDeviceId()
First step would probably be to override this function and just report to logcat to confirm the Swype Licensing process (Would have to check both "Swype installer" and "Swype" applications this way, full end to end install process) calls that function to retrieve the IMEI instead of using another method.
Then if that works, override the function to return a static number. Does anyone know if the IMEI can be used to reverse lookup manufacturers and devices models the same way MAC addresses can? If so, we may need to carefully pick the number returned so that if Swype does a reverse lookup it thinks we are using a valid device - Such as Galaxy tab, which I believe is functioning under the latest beta.
I am definitely not an expert android dev, I barely understand this stuff so far. Just hoping to get the conversation started because I'd really like to swype.

[Q] Swiftket tablet prediction won't appear right away

Hi there!
I have just installed Team-B's CM7. First thing I do, install the market, and then install the Swiftkey tablet X Trial from the market.
The keyboard pops up as normal, but it doesn't make the predictions. I changed the input method to the one that comes with CM7 and it works with predictions just fine. When I select back the swift key to be my input method, the predictions are there and work fine.
This doesn't persist, i.e., when I go to another textbox I have to do this procedure again.
And it doesn't predict at all. I mean, when I write some rubbish and it won't correct me, so it's not that it's simply not showing the predictions bar.
(btw, didn't find anything on the wiftkey documentation or FAQ)
My question is why doesn't it predict at the first time I hit the text box? What do I have to do to solve this?
Any ideas?
Cheers
I've been running the beta version of Swiftkey 3 for a couple months which I loaded from the Swiftkey site. It has run OK, and yesterday Swiftkey released it on the market. Paid version is on sale for one week. I ran paid version all day yesterday and that runs ok also. Only problem I see with this version is predictions with apostrophes ('). It doesn't seem to learn them. It has same problem on my GNex too. I'd recommend a different apk.

Is there a stable Swype (beta?) for CM9?

Hey all, I'm desperate to find a STABLE version of Swype to use with CM9. I've been trying to use the Swype Beta for a while, but each new Swype Beta update has actually made it progressively worse, rather than better!
I have uninstalled the beta, reinstalled, cleared data, etc etc blah blah... however, no matter what I do, the damn keyboard starts screwing up within 24 hours. The main problem I have is that the keyboard has a 60-120 second delay in popping up the first time I try to use it after a system reboot, or when the device starts getting low on memory. So, since I have to turn my phone on and off several times every day (to put it in a locker at work), this delay is killing me when I try to knock out quick emails, messages, or posts during a smoke break. There have even been a few instances where the keyboard failed to pop up at all!
I tried the Swiftkey beta, but that keyboard is just horrendous compared to a working version of Swype. Maybe I'm too dumb to figure out the Swiftkey settings, but the damn word predictions and autocorrection functions are horrible. I find myself constantly having to backspace and re-type entire words one letter at a time, which entirely defeats the point of a swiping keyboard.
As I said, I just want/need a stable version of Swype to use with CM9 on our GNote. If anyone has one, or can point to a good apk, I'd appreciate it tremendously.
Thanks ahead of time!

Did you read the OP? Swiftkey Flow is horrendous compared to Swype (when it works). I'm using Swiftkey Flow beta as we speak -- because I haven't found a working alternative -- but it is VERY painful to use... seriously, it's bad.
I just need a WORKING version of good 'ole Swype...
