[Q] Scroll problem in SG2 ICS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100) yesterday. It came with GB and I decided to root it and change to a custom ICS rom.
I have flashed the last Narkdroid ROM (sorry by the languaje of the link - Spanish).
Well, I have been testing the system and I have found problems scrolling in different menus and programs (I think that it hasn't got the problem with GB). I don't know well how to explain it. It's like a little delay when you scroll. While you're touching the screen it works perfectly, but when you leave the finger from the screen it does a jump, a hit (I don't know how to say it). It's like if the moviment speed suddenly gets slow for then going fast.
I have read about it (I think that they try to say the same that me) here and here, but I haven't read about any solutions.
You can see 2 vĂdeos of the problem here:
In the first one the problem is at second 7 when I go down.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b7hFy8xNuA
In the second one you can see it sometimes, when I move it makes a cut on the speed of scrolling:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtvDSwU8GYg
You can notice the effect more when you have the mobile in your hands that in the videos, but I have tried to explain it the best possible.
Is it any way to solve it?
Thanks,
Sergio.
I can't insert the videos, I don't know why.

This is a known issue. As you have already read in the 2 other threads.
Try flashing LP7 - it has a lot better scrolling performance

[Q] System sluggishness, lag.

Hey there all,
I was wondering... my Tablet S device is quite sluggish, delays between swipes, opening & closing programs, typing etc.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I tried reformatting 3 or 4 times to no avail.
Latest version of the Honeycomb OTA update 3.2.1.
Also, flash on the web is ridiculously slow and causes extreme slowdown. For e.g. on the Youtube website, the flash applet itself causes lag when activated (Using Opera Mobile) and I can only watch up to 480p. Anything above that lags and is unwatchable --- I remember reading that this is due to the hardware limitations of the Tegra 2 chip.
Anyhoo,
If anyone has any ideas or just helpful tips on how to make the device run smoother, could you let me know? I bought this device two days ago and am regretting it hard atm hahah. My phone (Gala SII feels so much smoother/responsive than this tablet)
Thanks all.
Well mate I dont have any experience like that, in fact this is the smoothest experience for me yet (i have a evo 3d )
But I noticed some lag when we have a LWP in use, remove that first and try,
And that LWP lag is gone after I flashed UK FW from AiO tool by condi. maybe you should do the same

Oh?
My Tablet S is experiencing some sluggishness too.
Is the UK firmware better than the US firmware? Why did you flash it anyway?
Have you tried using an alternative launcher like ADW EX? The stock Home launcher from Sony is pretty poor. If you drag slow enough to make the preview windows appear at the top of the screen, the frame rate drops significantly. Always found the swipes incredibly responsive otherwise.
I've got a nice performance boost from rooting, then using AdFree and Overclock Widget.

So Overclock Widget does actually work on the stock kernel?
I'd been researching it, but wasn't game to try yet..

Can't go above 1 Ghz, but you can set it and raise the minimum clock speed to get some more juice out of it. Might help the OP with some sluggishness during basic use.
I have no such problem at all with my tablet s wifi version, even when tethering with my iphone.
Why dont you take it back to the shop and make a complaint?
Thanks to everyone that replied with all those helpful comments.
I have tried everything, standard wallpaper. Format. Rooted.
Hmm maybe it is just my device?
BT keyboard input is really delayed for example. WiFi works due to that workaround (WiFi Locker app) I found using search, though I can't give much praise to the signal strength!
I just assumed the Tablet S was meant to be a bit sluggish (ref: CNET review and others: most say the tablet is a bit sluggish)
Ho dang, unfortunately I can't take it back for repair as I purchased it from eBay! x)
Maybe it's a hardware fault, a certain part(s) aren't working at optimum speeds/levels. I'll try taking it into a service center anyway.
Oh, and i'll try that Overclock widget!
Will report back with findings.
Thanks guys.

Actually I had JP FW. I wanted to check if UK firmware will unlock my simlock, and bang the LWP lag is gone

I have similar issue. The only solution I'd suggest:
(1) Get a cache remover like "1 Tap Cleaner Free" to remove cache. Cache can be very big ('00MB) in a few weeks.
(2) Get a task watch/killer, to find if there are any resident apps that keep reading activities/data of the tablet. You may then use the killer to kill them or uninstall them. (Frankly, many of those apps available in Play Store are susceptible. They might just want to get something from the user. So sorry that I could have no recommendation. But installing one and remove it afterwards may be fine.)
(3) Sometimes, a simple reboot helps.
Mine is working alright, though not terrific, and is having other issues to resolve. Taking back for service is always the last resort.

Strange scroll behavior

Hey there,
a few days ago i got my new Sgs2.
I've installed a few different ics roms (slim ics, resurrection, hydrogen) and have mentioned a really strange scrolling behavior (. It's strange to explain, therefore i have made a video of it - i hope one can see what i mean.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdTmBGF-2as
It feels like when i try to scroll (anywhere) fast the screen does not calculate the touches correctly.
This definetly is not a hardware error since i have also tested a GB (hyperdroid) Rom and there were no issues - the scrolling worked flawless - everywhere.
Does anyone know this problem?
I already have tried to play around with some touch settings in xxTweaks but this didnt help aswell.
Regards
Tak3r07
Some people will tell you the scrolling is normal in ICS and some people will tell you it's even better than GB. I disagree with both of them. The scrolling in the S2 ICS is much, much worse than the scrolling in GB.
The problem that you are experiencing is supposedly "normal". They say that's how it supposed to be like. The scrolling in ICS just isn't on par with GB. That's all.
I'd recommend you going back to GB and wait a couple of months before you move onto ICS again and maybe it will be fixed and maybe it won't...Fingers crossed!!
Have a good day and good luck with choosing which rom to flash!
I was using ICS on my HTC HD2 before aswell and the scrolling experience on it was another (really good).
And I also have compared my scrolling exp. with some of sgs2 ics roms on youtube and there it also works flawless.
If you look at the video i've made you can see the strange behavior. it stops sometimes instantly even if i have scrolled just as before. it does not lag but it reacts crazy. i dont think that this is what you are talking about.

[Q] LOW performance on Galaxy S3!

Hi,
Is anyone else experiencing this, or does anyone have a solution?
For some reason i'm not expereincing the full thrust of performance the Galaxy S3 has to offer.
The home screens 'jolt' when moving left to right, but the more annoying thing is that widgets (like the weather etc) KEEP disappearing and reloading (doesnt take long to reload, fine, but still! Galaxy S2 didnt do this!)
This was all noticiable in the 'TouchWiz' Launcher, so i thought i would try another launcher... Nope, same thing!! Apex, Launcher Pro, GO Launcher etc..
Also, some apps crash, more than the occasional crash you would experience on the S2.
It also freezes up on my for about 10 seconds before reloading the widgets/icons...
I've gone down SO many routes. Its definetly not that theres too much running, because i find myself closing apps through task manager ALL the time, more than i should need to ...But even with NO apps running, same thing
I just dont get, does anyone have a solution or could shed some light on WHY this is happening? I've hit a brick wall for trying to stop this and am hoping that its not just a 'dodgy device'!
Thank you to whoever responds...
Def sounds like a dud there. Try going into Apex launcher and tick the setting to keep the launcher in ram. Ive heard loads of problems about TW reloading itself after running things like the web browser and gaming :/
Dude just flash custom rom....or latest stock rom.

Shouldn't NEED to be flashing anything, mine was sheer awesome out of the box.
All I've done was flash the insecure kernel... which is the same just adb etc. enabled, and rooted.

Networks do not matter with custom ROMs, as long as you are flashing a ROM for the right phone i.e. the international version, and not the north american version. (which you don't need to worry about yet because it's not out yet)
Check if you have Power Saving turned off. It throttles the CPU making scrolling etc noticeably slower.
Mine loads the weather widget coming out of S-Voice. But other than that never misses a beat. Smooth even when using 90% of its ram.
Did a test of its speed and its above the Asus prime easy, so sounds like you have an issue.

same here
Man same thing here - only been 4 days since i bought my gs3 and i'm having issues.. i was running a benchmark when i saw cpu it said 1000MHz and max cycles 1400MHz i think we got a gs3 without exynos system - like they did with galaxy s2 had the i9100G model. Of tjis is the case and i find out i'm gonna spend any ounce of energy i have getting it replaced. The worst thibg is the browser cant handle videos on youtube. Performance is pathetic and weirdest tthibg i didnt have flipboard pre loaded on my gs3. Even now im on my gs3 and the browser wont let me fix "thing" that i wrote in the previous sentence. Totally shud have gotten htc one x
you all can flash latest version which should help with launcher redraw ... and after that do a full hard reset: *2767*3855#

Not having any issues. Suggest you uninstall apps and track down what's causing you pain or take it back. There is nothing wrong with this phone. If you are having slow performance obviously a quad core phone may I suggest an iphone.
Yeah I'm being a prick but common sense and a bit of troubleshooting will teach you a life skill.

This did the trick for me. Also upgrading your firmware would also help.

Same for me
The thing is that a big company that is trying to resemble other competitors cant release a product that will act that way and call it their flag ship.... Most of the owners wont twik it. the phone its a big draw back for me and disappointment... Really miss my s2 some times. Its one thing to pile new features wether they work or not and make the product worse than its predecessor. Big big disappointment. Happy with the screen, battery and looks though will wait for a proper Rom or Google clean products that are to come.

Your S2 has had a years worth of development and optimization. I bet you'll say the same about your S3 when we're all using the S4.
I completely agree with the guy. My most common activity on my phone is browsing whilst listening to music, and this phone just can't hack it. Waaaay too regular cut outs, I'm pissed off.
Remove all bloatware and corresponding background services, get a good kernel (Franco r5 is great), you'll find phone is much better, in a few months, it will have moved on loads and will be so much better

Yall are the odd ones out then. my phone was actually VERY VERY good at multi tasking out of the box. i could surf the web, play my music, and watch a movie with super video....and never get redraws, or hickups, leave apps open and keep going......i could not get it to do any lagging unless you speaking of the micro stutter in home screens. which is gone now with a custom rom and a few misc things here and there.
yall seem to keep wanting to blame it on the phone.....i dont quite understand this.

[Q] Screen sensitivity

Hi all,
I have done a google search and a search within XDA and have not found an answer to my "problem" yet. I just got a galaxy tab 10.1 (GT-P7510) from my dad second hand, he hardly every used it. I already have an SGS2 and have been running CM7, CM9, CM9.1 and now CM10 on it for some time so the first thing i did when i got the tab was to root it and install (unofficial) CM10 on it.
Even before i did so, i felt that the touch screen sensitivity was shockingly bad when compared to my SGS2. I figured it might just be a slow processor, so i did a full data wipe to remove as much possible junk before installing the new ROM and even still, half the time it did not pick up my touches and typing on it was a royal pain.
Fast forward to a few hours later and i have myself a shiny new ROM (CM10 20121112-EXPERIMENTAL-pfwifi) and kernel (A1 v1.7.5). The problem seems to have mildly improved but far from disappeared. Then i decided, hmm, obviously a problem with the screen sensitivity settings, but i have not managed to find any setting anywhere to adjust this setting. Maybe it's even a hardware issue?
I can't be the only one who had this problem. If anybody out there is able to help, i would greatly appreciate it.
You can try this app. I have not tried it myself but from reading the reviews, it has helped.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336464
If you find this answer helpful please click my thanks button. More importantly pay the $5 to register the app. Support the developer.
Ok so this is for anybody that has similar problems. I used the free app from market called SGS screen booster and that seems to have fixed all my problems.

Input lag issues

Hello guys, new to Android and sorry for posting this but I searched Google and the HTC one forums and I haven't seen anyone or heard any negatives about slow downs or input lag here and there like I have been experiencing with the One.
Every review I have read has praised the One for the non-existent lag and that everything seems very smooth.
My problems: Tapping URLs or text boxes sometimes require 2-4 presses.
Browsers seem a little sluggish scrolling around.
Has anyone else felt lag or input/touch response problems? Any tips or tricks to alleviate these issues?
Thanks so much in advance..

If you are coming from an iphone, you will notice input "lag". Its not that the phone lags compare to iphone, it is just that it takes more movement from your fingers before it scrolls. I use both iphone and android so I notice it a lot. Also scrolling on android is still somehow not as smooth as iphone. But mainly due to sense not being as smooth as a pure AOSP rom.
Hope that helps

I have that experience with the stock browser. I'm using chrome and it's not as noticeable. I think the input issues is a software bug. It happens to me with the home button, back button, and sometimes in other apps. I've had just about every android and iPhone 4s and 5 and the other android devices (note, note 2, HTC one x, etc) not the same issues. It's irritating

Ah, yeah I am coming from iPhones.. I mostly notice it in text boxes having to repeatedly press a link, url box, or any other input box.. I feel like maybe the sensitivity is lacking? I played with my friends galaxy s3 today and the ui seemed quicker as well.. do I have a faulty unit? Love the phone otherwise ..

This is an odd issue, and one I cant say I have. Have you tried another browser, such as chrome or chrome beta?
>Browsers seem a little sluggish scrolling around.
Still probably browser related, though the only browser that seems to have most of this worked out on android is firefox, and even then it's not nearly as smooth as iOS's webpage scrolling. I have no idea why.
The only thing I could think of would be to try other browsers and see if you like one more than the stock. Android has always had a subtle amount of touch lag, and custom UI skins seem to make it worse. touchwiz on my note 2 was almost unbearable. I haven't had much of a problem with it on the one so far though.

That's weird as hell. may I ask what build it says your on? I have noticed that the sensitivity seems to be turned down just a bit compared to some other devices I've owned in the past, but I adapted rather quickly to making my presses more deliberate. I don't really find it that troublesome, this may or may not be because I owned a droid 2 (god that thing was almost as bad as resistive touch screens when it came to sensitivity, I will never complain about a touch screen after that thing.).
This is a ****ty solution, but I'd say just learn to press a little more deliberately, and hope that it is indeed a software issue and that CM 10.1 fixes it when we get a build out for our device.
But maybe it is bad hardware on your end. Go into a store and play with the display unit, see if maybe it doesn't have it. Then you can just ask for a replacement.
Strange. I use the iPhone and different Android devices. And so far with the ONE I am not getting the lag and slow down I see at times with older Android devices. My stock Nexus 7 gets lag bad at times.

Hi guys, I wanted to give you guys an update. So yesterday I finally got my 64GB replacement... It was a faulty screen i had and for some reason it felt slower like lag issues. The new one is a night and day difference. HOWEVER... Now my 2nd one is plagued with slight gap issues on top and bottom which isn't a huge deal to me BUT.. ontop of that I have one dead pixel.. geez.. This is very sad as I am Taiwanese and I was hoping to support HTC.. Horrible QC.. Should I try my luck? Only problem is that I don't think stores are stocking the 64GB models... ugh.
