Strange scroll behavior - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
a few days ago i got my new Sgs2.
I've installed a few different ics roms (slim ics, resurrection, hydrogen) and have mentioned a really strange scrolling behavior (. It's strange to explain, therefore i have made a video of it - i hope one can see what i mean.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdTmBGF-2as
It feels like when i try to scroll (anywhere) fast the screen does not calculate the touches correctly.
This definetly is not a hardware error since i have also tested a GB (hyperdroid) Rom and there were no issues - the scrolling worked flawless - everywhere.
Does anyone know this problem?
I already have tried to play around with some touch settings in xxTweaks but this didnt help aswell.
Regards
Tak3r07

Some people will tell you the scrolling is normal in ICS and some people will tell you it's even better than GB. I disagree with both of them. The scrolling in the S2 ICS is much, much worse than the scrolling in GB.
The problem that you are experiencing is supposedly "normal". They say that's how it supposed to be like. The scrolling in ICS just isn't on par with GB. That's all.
I'd recommend you going back to GB and wait a couple of months before you move onto ICS again and maybe it will be fixed and maybe it won't...Fingers crossed!!
Have a good day and good luck with choosing which rom to flash!

I was using ICS on my HTC HD2 before aswell and the scrolling experience on it was another (really good).
And I also have compared my scrolling exp. with some of sgs2 ics roms on youtube and there it also works flawless.
If you look at the video i've made you can see the strange behavior. it stops sometimes instantly even if i have scrolled just as before. it does not lag but it reacts crazy. i dont think that this is what you are talking about.

ICS ROMs have weird touch or is it the launchers?

I've noticed with all ICS roms i''ve used for the SGS2, the touch doesnt seem as good/responsice.
when using both Trebuchet and Nova launcher it seems instead of a quick flick to the left or right (like in any other launcher or rom) you need to slide a bit further accross the screen to get it to go or else it moves a bit then goes back to the screen you were on.
anyone else noticed this?
Yes something to do with them being a leaked beta test rom base .

Thanks for the reply. I've only had the phone about a week and came from an Xperia Play.
I had a few ICS leaks on the Play and the touch was exactly the same which is why i was wondering if it was the way the launchers have been set up.
Anyone have a Galaxy Nexus and know if this issue is there or not?
Since it has the official ICS on it, it would be a good indication
Check youtube for the nexus videos but being a finished product its a lot better and smoother than any leaked ROM floating around.GB ROMs are also quicker than the ICS leaks.
I'm running XXLPH on my S2 and it's the same for me. Can be annoying when trying to flick through application or down large web pages. Hopefully the final release will be better
If you took a car off the production line at the halfway point, would you expect it to drive properly? Of course not! Same thing with roms.

has anyone running an ics rom on the SGS2 having issues with posting on facebook and uploading pictures.
i am using go launcher on ics...its smooth, no issues
I had the same issues on some earlier CM9 builds, but using the builds dated from the 29th and beyond, I haven't had the issue anymore it would seem.

[Q] Scroll problem in SG2 ICS

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100) yesterday. It came with GB and I decided to root it and change to a custom ICS rom.
I have flashed the last Narkdroid ROM (sorry by the languaje of the link - Spanish).
Well, I have been testing the system and I have found problems scrolling in different menus and programs (I think that it hasn't got the problem with GB). I don't know well how to explain it. It's like a little delay when you scroll. While you're touching the screen it works perfectly, but when you leave the finger from the screen it does a jump, a hit (I don't know how to say it). It's like if the moviment speed suddenly gets slow for then going fast.
I have read about it (I think that they try to say the same that me) here and here, but I haven't read about any solutions.
You can see 2 vĂdeos of the problem here:
In the first one the problem is at second 7 when I go down.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b7hFy8xNuA
In the second one you can see it sometimes, when I move it makes a cut on the speed of scrolling:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtvDSwU8GYg
You can notice the effect more when you have the mobile in your hands that in the videos, but I have tried to explain it the best possible.
Is it any way to solve it?
Thanks,
Sergio.
I can't insert the videos, I don't know why.

This is a known issue. As you have already read in the 2 other threads.
Try flashing LP7 - it has a lot better scrolling performance

JB Issues

I've been following the ICS thread for quite a while, since the early alpha days (BTW thanx Joker and co), and as soon as the work on JB started I kinda dropped the ICS thread for the JB thread. The only that has been holding me back from actually flashing the ROM is that I kinda like using my 4G, but I'm considering changing that. My question is, what are the main issues with the latest JB (0.1.1), it seems like APNs are fixed for most people, camera is working, MMS is working (whether with GoSMS or not), and battery life is pretty cool too, anything that's NOT working?

I believe tethering is hit or miss for some. I use Foxfi to compensate for this. I cant seems to receive download mms either with stock messenger. I will say that while ICS handles the lack of 2d libs pretty gracefully, JB seems to noticeably stutter a little bit more. Camera is laggy at times, other times its fine. I get no force closes, no random reboots, no overheating, and pretty good battery (though not as good as ics). All in all it runs beautifully and I'm extremely happy. If you can get used to comparatively ****ty 3g speeds compared to your 4g, jump ship!
Cool, thanx... I may do just that
BTW sorry if I sound like an illiterate, but what exactly are the 2D drivers, and what do they do?

They insure that 2d animations across the OS work smoothly, ie transition effects, scrolling, and how some applications render theirselves. We don't have the ones we are supposed to, hence, those things are jittery at times. In general, they don't affect the usability of the ROM, they are just cosmetic and irritating. However, some applications that require hardware acceleration, namely some browsers and games, don't work properly or not at all. This is why opera and chrome do not work for us yet.

There are a lot of factors that may come into play with such things.
For starters, more information on what you are running on your device would be useful in trying to assist you with your issue.
What rom you are running? When was your last "clean" wipe and install?
Have you restored a bunch of stuff(especially texts) on your current rom from a previous install or rom?
Typically, if you have done a full wipe, a clean install, and have not restored a bunch of apps and data, you would not run into this type of problem.
It's usually when users go restoring a bunch of things, that texting takes a big hit and lags down real bad.
As stated, especially when you have restored a bunch of text messages.
Well, with the little information you gave, I hope that something I have said will be helpful.
If not, maybe provide more details so that a more specific solution can be considered.
I hate to semi-hijack the thread but I didn't want to make a new topic on a similar issue. I tried changing over to a new ROM a couple of months ago from my old Gingerbread one I used to have and since then I've gone through 3-4 Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs (the de-odexed one from this site as well as a couple from Santod on InfectedROM) and I've been having performance issues. I've mainly been used to AOSP ROMs and mainly wanted to change because I was having constant volume issues on that old one I was using. Since I've changed over to ICS Sense the volume is soo much better (the new radios I guess). I was wondering if there were any good AOSP ROMs I could try out based on Ice Cream Sandwich. I really wish I could get these new ones to work but it's just so laggy and slow I can't handle it. I am following all the instructions and clearing out everything between flashes and only restoring missing apps with data in Titanium Backup but the problems persist. Any ideas?

Biggest cause of lag, restoring apps and data, honestly.
As far as Aosp, have you tried my UnSenseROM Jelato?
It's about as DeSensed as a Sense rom gets, more or less and I do not get any complaints about lag from it.
I am a bit of an app hoarder, the last restore was around 130 apps, though that includes random ones that might come with a ROM. I have been testing browsers lately as that seems to be a big problem I'm having. Nearly every single browser out there seems to take at least 5-10 seconds when first opening to load up except Dolphin Mini. And that one won't fully load a page unless I change tabs and then when I swap tabs back it'll be loaded...very weird issue there.
Anyway, I was under the impression that Jelato ROM wasn't finished so I hadn't tried it so it was next on my list. I appreciate you not giving up on the old Tbolt

No problem.
It is done for now, there's always updates to come though.
I have also posted up 2 other Desensed roms of which may or may not interest you.
One is Miui Inspired and the other being Sony Xperia inspired.
In all, there are 7 custom roms to choose from, as well as the 4 stock roms.
Hmm, I haven't heard of MIUI before, I'll have to read up on it. Definitely looks interesting though from a couple pictures I saw.

Input lag issues

Hello guys, new to Android and sorry for posting this but I searched Google and the HTC one forums and I haven't seen anyone or heard any negatives about slow downs or input lag here and there like I have been experiencing with the One.
Every review I have read has praised the One for the non-existent lag and that everything seems very smooth.
My problems: Tapping URLs or text boxes sometimes require 2-4 presses.
Browsers seem a little sluggish scrolling around.
Has anyone else felt lag or input/touch response problems? Any tips or tricks to alleviate these issues?
Thanks so much in advance..

If you are coming from an iphone, you will notice input "lag". Its not that the phone lags compare to iphone, it is just that it takes more movement from your fingers before it scrolls. I use both iphone and android so I notice it a lot. Also scrolling on android is still somehow not as smooth as iphone. But mainly due to sense not being as smooth as a pure AOSP rom.
Hope that helps

I have that experience with the stock browser. I'm using chrome and it's not as noticeable. I think the input issues is a software bug. It happens to me with the home button, back button, and sometimes in other apps. I've had just about every android and iPhone 4s and 5 and the other android devices (note, note 2, HTC one x, etc) not the same issues. It's irritating

Ah, yeah I am coming from iPhones.. I mostly notice it in text boxes having to repeatedly press a link, url box, or any other input box.. I feel like maybe the sensitivity is lacking? I played with my friends galaxy s3 today and the ui seemed quicker as well.. do I have a faulty unit? Love the phone otherwise ..

This is an odd issue, and one I cant say I have. Have you tried another browser, such as chrome or chrome beta?
>Browsers seem a little sluggish scrolling around.
Still probably browser related, though the only browser that seems to have most of this worked out on android is firefox, and even then it's not nearly as smooth as iOS's webpage scrolling. I have no idea why.
The only thing I could think of would be to try other browsers and see if you like one more than the stock. Android has always had a subtle amount of touch lag, and custom UI skins seem to make it worse. touchwiz on my note 2 was almost unbearable. I haven't had much of a problem with it on the one so far though.

I am using the chrome browser right now. For instance I had to click refresh 4 times just now to refresh.. it's inconsistent and happens when it wants to.. I also get this when entering new contacts like when editing contact's name.

That's weird as hell. may I ask what build it says your on? I have noticed that the sensitivity seems to be turned down just a bit compared to some other devices I've owned in the past, but I adapted rather quickly to making my presses more deliberate. I don't really find it that troublesome, this may or may not be because I owned a droid 2 (god that thing was almost as bad as resistive touch screens when it came to sensitivity, I will never complain about a touch screen after that thing.).
This is a ****ty solution, but I'd say just learn to press a little more deliberately, and hope that it is indeed a software issue and that CM 10.1 fixes it when we get a build out for our device.
But maybe it is bad hardware on your end. Go into a store and play with the display unit, see if maybe it doesn't have it. Then you can just ask for a replacement.
Strange. I use the iPhone and different Android devices. And so far with the ONE I am not getting the lag and slow down I see at times with older Android devices. My stock Nexus 7 gets lag bad at times.

my build is 1.26.502.10 CL166754. I will try to make it to a AT&T store to play with one soon.
Hi guys, I wanted to give you guys an update. So yesterday I finally got my 64GB replacement... It was a faulty screen i had and for some reason it felt slower like lag issues. The new one is a night and day difference. HOWEVER... Now my 2nd one is plagued with slight gap issues on top and bottom which isn't a huge deal to me BUT.. ontop of that I have one dead pixel.. geez.. This is very sad as I am Taiwanese and I was hoping to support HTC.. Horrible QC.. Should I try my luck? Only problem is that I don't think stores are stocking the 64GB models... ugh.
