Hi,
I've got a new unlocked Nokia Lumia 800 and I've got a big problem with it. It seems that it cannot always sync all of my accounts (email, Facebook, windows live) properly. I think that the problem is related to my internet connection. Internet Explorer is working properly. I live in Luxembourg and the Lumia does not contain settings for Tango Luxembourg. I entered the APN settings manually.
Now, Nokia has published the Network Profile app, but it is not available for my handset, even opening the Zune link on the handset doesn't work. Sideloading isn't working either because it is not INTEROP unlocked.
Does anyone have an idea what I could do?
Thanks,
zoidinger
Hi folks.
So I've got a Lumia 800, SIM-free from phones4u. I've tried the following to get my MMS working. Note everything else on the phone works fine.
Cut my PAYG O2 sim card to micro sim, booted up phone (first boot), set APN settings etc.
Doing a complete phone reset.
Getting a replacement microsim for O2.
Doing another complete phone reset.
I've bounced between O2 and Nokia's customer support lines a few times to no avail.
Texting the O2 number (2020) to get MMS settings sent to my phone. It errors.
So I have three questions.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Is there a way to force it into the right MMS settings?
Is Nokia's Network Setup application on the way after the secruity flaw that got it unpublished? Any indication when it might be out?
Sorry if any of this is a stupid question. A friend suggested you guys might be able to help.
Got the same problem and I believe everybody with sim free Nokia's experiencing the same problem.
There's no way to change the MMS settings. We need to wait for Nokia to release the app.
It's a bit annoying though.
Lumia 800 on O2 Ireland here as well and MMS is not working. I was expecting this as MMS on my existing HD7 would not work either without running the Connection Setup software provided by HTC.
I'm hoping the Network Setup software will be back soon on the Marketplace(and will actually include O2 Ireland in the settings).
Although my lumia seems ok with mms on tmobile uk, my wifes Mozart wont send or recieve mms at all i have tried everything. As HTC used to have a setup app before they removed it (dunno why its needed) im sure it can be setup by software.
Hi,
Nokia released the Network Setup App again. The only flaw is, I can't seem to find the app in Marketplace. BUT: go to this thread and follow the link in the first post on your phone.
My data connection now works perfectly, but MMS still does not work
Happy to report that USA T-Mobile Lumia 800 sending MMS perfectly.. after reading this thread, I tested this and my coworker got the photo I sent just fine. Didn't even take that long to send (T-Mobile USA restricts Lumia 800 to 2G Edge)
Thanks zoidinger - this got me the app. Annoyingly I now can't seem to actually make it *do* anything. I can select between O2 UK 1, O2 UK2, and tesco mobile, but no matter what it always ends up set to "O2 UK 1" iff I change it, go out and come back in again.
I'll have a play around today when I get the chance and see if I can get anywhere.

The Connection Setup app doesn't exist anymore on Marketplace or what? Because I had a Mozart before and to fix the MMS config I downloaded that app, ran it and then it worked.
BTW: I also got MMS to work on my Lumia yesterday with the Network Setup app. Here's how I did to get it to work:
1. I ran the app
2. Removed the app
3. Turned the phone off
4. Removed the sim card
5. Started the phone
6. Turned it off again
7. Reinserted the sim card
8. Turned it on again.
Now it works!
Right after playing around I got it working!
It was some combination of the following, in various different orders:
Playing with the Network Setup app
Removing the APN settings
Re-adding the APN settings
Rebooting the phone
Thanks so much for the trick to get the Network Setup app!

Unfortunately, that does not seem to work for me. I tested MMS with another phone. It worked instantly. I also checked the MMS settings inside the XAP from Nokia and they seem correct. Don't know what to do else...
The problem affects only branded firmware. Solution:
1. Open Internet Explorer on your phone.
2. We go to the following address: goo.gl/l5vi2
3. Click on the link "Zune Link" in the first post at the top.
4. Install the application.
5. Remove APN manually typed in the phone settings, if any we have (Settings-> Mobile Network-> Edit APN).
6. Run the application, wait a while and we have configured the phone.
7. Close the application.
Here is updated link for Network Setup from Nokia
I had to call Nokia as the previous links in threads did not work. they gave me updated link and I ran the app, power-cycled and sent MMS with no errors on phone. Please make sure you remove any APN settings before running the app, reboot after it detects your carrier. Enjoy, I hope this helps. The forum won't let me post a URL, you can email me directly [email protected] for link and maybe someone can post it
Hi Everyone,
I have just joined Giffgaff in the UK as service provider. They use O2 network so they are classed as a "virtual provider" as far as I know.
I have entered the APN info in order to get on the net and send mails and all works great. But, I cannot send MMS.
>there is no place in the OS to enter MMS details
>on MSFT site it said that the phone will read the SIM on first boot assuming ADC is enabled.
>I reset the phone and still no MMS
> I ring Nokia and they tell me that ADC is in fact enabled in unlocked Lumias.
>how can I check this?
>others say to install the network setup app but I can't because I don't have the very latest firmware
>some have tried this and now say that Giffgaff is not in the drop down menu so therefore can't be used.
So, as I am chevron unlocked, is there any way to change registry settings to ensure that ADC is enabled and therefore hopefully read the info from the sim card?
As long as your phone is debranded the handset should read the SIM card settings after a hard reset.
You should also be able to install the Network Setup app once it is released again (hopefully soon) after it was taken down to be updated.
If your phone isn't debranded then hard resetting won't help and you won't be able to install the Network Setup app. You won't even be able to see it in the Marketplace.
See this thread for more information on debranding.
See this thread for more information on Network Setup app/MMS/ADC.
Thanks for this great info. My phone was bought from Clove and is supposed to be unlocked. There is no branding other than Nokia. The problem is, I think, the fact that ADC may not be enabled even though it is unlocked. I called Nokia to make sure and they told me that all unlocked phones had ADC enabled and it was only carrier phones that had this functionality disabled. I somehow do not believe this.
If auto data config is not enabled then the info on the sim, card canot be read. And I reset my phone in the hope that I could get the MMS details this way but no success. I have read elsewhere as well that even I can get the network setup app from marketplace it will still not work because Giffgaff are not included as a service provider at this stage. Oh, what to do. WHy could MSFT not have given us this functionality within the OS in the same way as our old winmo platform.:-(
Network Setup app has been available for awhile already, at least for me. I just received an update for it through Marketplace this morning.

Network setup is not even in my marketplace because I am running 11451 firmware and it is only available in th every latest firmware (according to Nokia). And anyway, even if I had network setup available to me there is no mention of Giffgaff as a provider so I still cannot get MMS settings on my unlocked Nokia Lumia 800. What we need is either a MSFT update allowing us to change MMS settings or Nokia to include Giffgaff on their app. I think its that simple.
The network setup app came avalible today in the UK.
It would install and run but still couldnt send MMS on a vodafone branded device, so ive just debranded and its all working fine.
So i can now send and recive MMS
We need to get Giffgaff included on Nokia network setup app; simple as!

With their recent firmware update, Nokia has updated the diagnostic Application with quite a few new features/options.
Considering the widespread unavailability of the Network Setup App for custom MMS APN, the option that interests Lumia users the most is "APN Settings".
I have tried adding and saving new MMS APN settings with this application, which results in a prompt, "successfully saved". However, the moment you close and re-open this Menu, the settings go missing, and of-course they are not operational, if tested in the messaging app.
Has anyone else played with this New Diagnostic App/Menu? I am currently in the process of trying to set my unlocked Lumia 800 for MMS on Rogers. Strangely enough, the internet over 3G is fully operational without any manual intervention.
So, 68 views and no replies? I heard quite a few people crying about their beloved "giffgaff" not being included in the "Network Setup App". Why don't you try this?
Because it doesn't help.

And that post definitely helps. If it doesn't work for you, that is a good feedback. Something useful. Rather than me doubting the process that I followed.
Thank you.
Yeah that is a lot of stuff in the diag app that doesn't seem to do anything (there is an HSPA switch that is set too off be default, and HSPA still works for example) for some reason.
I have just flashed my unlocked Lumia with 11501 from navifirm. I entered all the correct settings within APN in diagnostics. I can confirm that my cyan unlocked Lumia still cannot send MMS. The only hope now is GG settings included in Nokia network setup or else MSFT giving all wp7 owners the functionality to set up mms

New Network Setup App released
Hello Everyone,
The new Network Setup App has been released, and it works perfectly. MMS works like a charm.
Enjoy!
don't have to use the diag, now you can download the Network Setup from Nokia Collection in marketplace, the it will automatically set up all the network settings include MMS, it works fine for me
It only works for those who's carrier has been included by Nokia.
Anyone try this? Windows Phone on Straight Talk?
Mobile data (internet) works perfectly fine (and fast!) but I can't connect to live services . . . which kills the user experience of a Windows Phone. The Live services work over wifi, but when there is no wifi connection, the services, including marketplace, bing search, scout, etc simply refuse to connect.
Any thoughts on how I can correct this? I've tried everything I can think of and spent hours searching to no avail.
Any help is much appreciated.
Hi, I have the Lumia 800 on Straight talk and everything works perfect.
Make sure the apn setting are good.
Is Straight talk a network that gives you SIM card and no phone?
If it's a network that uses some other carrier's masts i.e. O2, Vodafone for example, then there is a solution to it.
How do you get your APN settings on your phone? Do you enter it manually?
Here is what will help you:
Once you connect to wifi to do whatever you wish and you complete using wifi, go to your network settings, mobile settings, then edit apn - enter your APN settings manually. I am not sure what Straighttalk APN settings are but you would surely find it somewhere.
After saving the APN settings, restart your phone but make sure wifi is switched off before you restart.
After the restart you will be able to use Live services with 3g.
However as soon as you reconnect to wifi, you will have to re-do the whole cycle each time in order to get Live services working on 3g again.
This might or might not work. I had exactly same issue on giffgaff. I have spent 3 months trying to figure out, flashed ROMs, hard resets, swapped carriers etc and finally have found this to be the way it works. I own a HTC Titan. Till today I thought, it was HTC's fault because I have ruled out carrier and MS for this. But if the above works for you then, it clearly isn't HTC's or carrier's fault but sure OS that keeps forgetting the APN. The reason this happens is because Straighttalk in your case and Giffgaff in my case, DO NOT have APN settings stored on their SIM cards. The OS doesn't seem to be configured to remember it. Ideally when you swap from wifi to 3g, your OS shouldn't have to read your SIM. However WP in current state seems to be reading SIM everytime you swap from wifi to 3g. However, when it can't find anything on the SIM i.e. APN settings, the live services won't work.
If this works, please please please drop me a PM as I don't use this Lumia forums at all. I have a Titan, so I wouldn't know. But if this works, I will have to write to WinPhone Support with whom I've been conversing for about a month now!!

Mind sharing what settings you're using? Also, are you using WP's built in APN tool or Nokia's Network setup?
APN is: att.mvno (all other fields are empty).
Using the built in WP APN under cellular in settings.
Tried the Nokia but it messed up the phone so I took it out.
Let me know if this helps.
I'm using my 800 on StraightTalk and have had the same issue. I found there are essentially 3 places where the APNs can be set up, and reboots must occur at the right time. (Win settings, ##634#, and Nokia tool)
it seems to be overly sensitive as to how they are configured. I must have reset this thing at least a half a dozen times before getting it to work. Ultimately, I ended up with the settings in all 3 places, but the sequence I did it in is Win Settings (network APN), ##634# (both network and MMS settings), a reboot, and then download the Nokia tool via WiFi and use it to enter the settings there for both network and MMS followed by another reboot. That issue is most definitely related to the APN settings, but I'm not quite certain why I had to do the hokey pokey to make it work. None-the-less, I hope this helps a little. Once you get it working, it seems to stick through reboots, wifi, or pretty much anything except swapping out the SIM card, which hosed everything up again.

Interesting. . . There doesn't seem to be anywhere to do that in the most up to date version of the diagnostics tool. (I know they changed a few things in the most recent update.)
I may have to restore to a previous version . . .
Thanks

I just activated my Straight Talk SIM yesterday (I was on T-Mobile's EDGE connection) and used Nokia's Network Setup tool to add, and make current, a new APN with att.mvno under the Internet APN's 'name' field. That's all I did, and data works fine (surprisingly, even on the RM-801 which doesn't have AT&T's 850MHz band).

How is call quality and what are your download/upload speeds. Been debating whether I should get a RM-819 device which is harder to obtain than a RM-801.
