Hey all,
A few weeks ago, I started hearing an echo on my original headset - no bass, no stereo output and very low volume levels. I was able to determine that the cable connection to the iBeats headset had a short or break. I used some ultimate ears for a while, but totally missed the Beats sound.
I submitted a warranty replacement request with HTC last Thursday and didn't hear a thing from them until yesterday when my replacement headset arrived on my doorstep. In order to receive the headset before returning the original, I had to allow a credit card authorization.
The headset I just received is totally crap. Not iBeats. I'll upload a picture once I get to my desk. I have 15 days to return my original headset before I am charged.
You will not believe that HTC was prepared to charge me $100 for this headset.
I am not sure what to do next? Walk 15 blocks to the nearest VZW store to get actual iBeats, if they even have? Write an angry letter? This headset is definitely going back, but at my cost. So disappointed and angry right now.

Are the ibeats under warranty? If so, I would definitely go into a store and talk with someone, they added 100 dollars to the price of the phone for those headphones, and the replacement ones look like they came from a vending machine

Yea thats not good Im waiting for my replacement and I hope I dont get those

That is terrible, Wookie. Hope that 3rd party purchase comes through for you, got trolled by HTC pretty bad there.
I'd have gone through Verizon in the first place so they'd know what's up on this warranty replacement, but if you directly went through HTC, shoot an email to them ASAP. Try and get things straightened out with them in a precise and firm (not angry) letter - a technical letter as if for a defense in court. Apparently HTC has ditched packing some of the Sensation and Rezound phones with Beats, and gave you the "current in-box" model. Need to specify and make it abundantly clear you have the OEM Monster iBeats designed for Verizon's Rezound and that these are not "functionally equivalent" in terms of sound quality of the speakers themselves and form factor of the earbud housing/soft tips. You ought to be recouped your shipping costs as this is their error (not legally, but as a goodwill gesture for what they are putting you through.)
As a Verizon customer, I'd let them hear about the "unacceptable customer service you're experiencing with the OEM of a device marketed exclusively for their network in the US." This is negligent behavior for a device you specifically paid extra for to get an "enhanced audio experience straight out of the box."
Going in person to a Verizon store is usually the best way to get things done, and I mean those larger, corporate repair center type stores, not the little mom-and-pop Authorized Retailer ops.

Sorry for double posting, but on a seperate yet relevant tangent...
Should you have filed a warranty claim with Verizon or Monster directly rather than HTC? And the warranty booklet I dug out with mine says PCD is who grants a one year warranty on the device. Worth checking out.

I had the exact same problem with my first pair. I brought them in to a Verizon store and walked out with a replacement set, no charge as they were on warranty. Try the VZW store.

yeah, if someone came to me with this problem, i'd be like , goto a corporate store. nothing i can do, broseph gordon levitt.

Thanks for the input so far. I'll head to the corporate store to see what I can do. It's a good walk.
Now that I've had a chance to calm down, I'll probably contact HTC again regarding the ticket and have it canceled after I return this headset.
FYI, the CSR I spoke to at HTC went on and on about how good the iBeats headset was, so I doubt this was a simple error. He was clear on the fact that I was expecting the original series of iBeats replaced.
The only reason I went to HTC in the first place was because I thought I'd get better service from them than from VZW...

Could it be as simple as a packaging problem? Someone grabbed the wrong pair and sent it out?
I saw it here before, but try being respectful and give them the benefit of the doubt here before you go all ballistic and raise hell.

If you need help with HTC pm me and I'll give you a name and email to someone within HTC.

Don't go to the VZ store they won't do anything because the warranty is from HTC. Call HTC back and tell them they sent the wrong ones. The should pay for the shipping since they sent the wrong thing. And they might even do rush shipping since you already waited and got the wrong thing. When I dealt with HTC they were very nice and helpful. Just give them a call back.

Hey those are the same exact HTC headphones that came with my Eris like 2.5 years ago! Yeah, those are total ****.

Go through VZW for the replacement. worked for me the first time, im gonna try again soon as the same thing that happened with my first pair happened to the replacements, one earbud is MUCH louder than the other. They come with a 1yr warrenty with the phone so you should be good with that

I actually bought a pair of these as well. I'll probably give them to my daughter - she has an iPhone, so they will work properly for her.

I had no problem getting my replacement from HTC they were very helpful. Call them back, like I said they will fix it and pay to ship back the wrong ones they sent and will most likely rush the new pair out.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt, but the packaging you see in the pic was what was sent, in a padded manila envelope. There was no way you could send the headset and not know that it was a standard headset.
I am not saying it's inexcusable. Just saying that it was a difficult mistake to make that costs me time and money.

The Dr Dre Beats line of headphones are possibly the most overrated/overpriced headphones out there. If you like your music compressed to death and with so much bass you feel like you're at a club, then they're perfect for you. The iBeats are better than most cheap earbuds, but they still give me moderate ear fatigue.

Not that I think I'm entitled to a product at 1/3 the cost of its manufacture, but the tease is getting old...
(Not to mention, I really want to know how other people keep beating me to the punch. Are there really people out there that waste more time on gadget blogs/XDA than me?)
Well, I got two before the store opened at $99, saw geeksquad outside, asked a guy about it, and he offered to sell me early. Got home and saw the pricing error, I really hope the guy doesn't get in trouble, but I got two. I feel bad but is was an honest mistake.
Got one before store opened as well. 99....guess I got lucky.

I've always wondered what the laws/courts specifically say about situations like this. While I understand that businesses shouldn't be held to honest mistakes. What if a typo or printing error meant a car dealer had to sell all his cars for $1, he would obviously go out of business if he was required to honor the advertisement.
On the other hand, somebody can definitely claim intentional false advertising or a bait-and-switch type thing. Get people to the store, then say "Ohhh, it was a mistake . . . but why don't you buy it anyway for full price while you're here?"
I was told that i will be given credit of $200 for price adjustment this morning. Hopefuly they carry through with it.
Otherwise, I'm prepared to pay the $300 like I agreed to in the beginning. I just hope they don't eff things over like they have a reputation for doing.
Just bought one for 99.99 from a best buy "vending machine" in the las vegas airport!
Pretty lucky if I do say so myself.
I got one as soon as the store opened. They honored the shelf price, then took down the $99 tag.
They canceled my online order .

Ok, now they are toying with me. They just sent me a UPS tracking number for my order

Walked in at 9:55am. I grabbed the very last one. I saw people running in as i walked out lol! I still think the HP Touchad was a better steal at $99.

No way. The Flyer is head and shoulders better than the Touchpad - no matter how good the Cyanogenmod group is, it will always be a hack. The Flyer is purebred Android through and through.

It depends on the applicable consumer protection laws--those usually differ from state to state (not that greatly) but it is general practice to honor the advertised price. There's mostly case law on it, but it's arguable to a point.
Contracts was so long ago ...
This, the Touchpad firesale and especially the Amazon Fire (250k orders in 5 days) send the industry (and hopefully HTC) a clear message: people want low priced tablets.
Exactly... they expected me to pay the same amount on the tablet as I did for my laptop, which can perform better in every single category (even in battery life).
(Acer 4820TG with SSD)
And who cares about the "iPad killer?" It pisses me off how many companies and review sites use Apple as the standard for everything. The only reason why they're successful is that they actually use common sense when designing their products and they come out with products BEFORE everyone else (which I think is kinda important).
Just make an attractive device without the iPad's price tag!

Yes, and compared to the Flyer, the Fire is a slower and limited device. Your get what you pay for
The Flyer is a fine device at $300. Any lower has to be a loss, based on quality and features of the device.

Having to honor the advertised price is what I would think, from what little I know about the consumer protection laws. But it seems this kind of thing happens all the time, where retailers state that an advertised price was an error. I'm on Newegg's email list, and it seems like every couple months they send out a message saying so-and-so price was an error, and they apologize, blah blah. It would seem that these retailers would be out of business, if they had to honor every advertised price that was a mistake. And the mistake might not even be theirs, but the fault of an ad agency, typo in newspaper, etc.
I wonder if promptly sending out a correction helps their case? Conventional wisdom (which of course does not always apply to the law!) would seem to dictate that making a conscious effort to quickly inform the public of the error, would help deflect any claims of intentional false advertising.
What's crazy us that if you look it up via the mobile app, it is still listed at $99. I have mine already, but seeing that price is tempting.

I can't even purchase it on the mobile. I couldn't get pass the log in stage.

I posted this in the Thunderbolt forum(as I still have a TB until Monday), but thought you guys would get a laugh out of it to.
This was the line for the RAZR launch this morning at my local Verizon. This pic was taken 10 minutes before they opened(They decided on 11:11AM for the launch).
Btw, that lady wasn't there for the RAZR... she just wanted a new battery for her phone and was upset that Verizon wasn't open yet.
A RAZR launch is always the best day to go to the VZW store if you need to , because it is never crowded.

Lol yeah I went down to play with the RAZR thinking that I had to stand in line to do so, but the freaking store was pretty much empty. i know, right? sad part is, in our verizon website, they said that employees couldn't activate the razr on launch day, much like the iphone 4s, because of the overwhelming demand. LOL. what demand? hahaha
2 Issues, there are so many Android phones, those who WANT these new phones can't get them because they just got the last 9 phones that came out in the last couple months, lol. iPhone fanboys only get 1 phone every 12+ months, easier to build up demand when there isn't something else similar coming out. Not to mention, people KNOW the Nexus and Rezound come out in the next few days.

Beautiful!
The thing I hate about the razr most is the bezel is so big, also I don't like phones that have a hump, just seems out of place, I'd rather the whole thing be a bit thicker overall.
I did see commercials on TV for it, guess they didn't help.

i was frolicking about in the mall today and saw one on display in Best Buy Mobile(there were people in the store, but no one seemed to be paying any attention to it). i decided to pick it up and it just felt all fragile and seemed like if you didn't hold it just right it might slip out of your hands. i didn't really play with it much but did try to see if i could experience the lag and kept constantly switching back & forth through windows and it did slow down. a salesperson was just watching me and probably thought i'm "disturbed"(which isn't far from the truth).

In photos, the hump looks pretty big. In reality, it doesn't feel nearly as intrusive. You might still hate it, of course. I'm just clarifying that as far as how the phone feels in hand, the hump is the most minor concern for me.
I played with one at one of my Verizon stores... I just can't get over Moto's failed Blur. The locked BL nonsense, I mean.... No reason to ever go back to another Moto, their track record ruined it for me. (I may change my opinion if Google does successfully acquire Moto).
On a side note, if they would quit having these damn release parties and just had teaser commercials, and NOT let people know that a better phone is coming out 3 days later, and subsequently 7 days again after than. AND, if they didn't tie people to asinine contracts, AND, if there were not choices, AND.... You get the point. You can't hype something that is overpriced and isn't changing anything in the world. How many people do you think will show up at a car dealer to see a new hybrid?

not true ^
I'm around a lot of people who are legally considered poor, most have POS dumbphones with hardly known cell providers, the ones that have smartphones still are having problem affording rent and whatnot but they're not as bad off, and they get their smartphone for free or for something like $50, and again with POS providers that are hella cheap.
It's hard to live in this society without internet or cell phones, and there's ways of getting those things without having to pay a lot.
If someone can afford to blow $300 on a phone but they say that they can't afford food, then they can, they're just dumbasses or lying to your face.

Replacement ibeats

Has anyone else received warranty replacement beats?
I got some today from tech support call in. The left bud of the original pair stopped working.
The new buds seem to be of better quality at first. The mic/music control is located on the left bud wire and hangs at mouth level instead of at the wire split. The black on the buds is of a shiny chrome looking color instead of matte black, and there are colored stripes.
I think they sound better, maybe...
Unfortunately, as luck would have it, I'm going to have to send them back. The buttons don't do anything when pressed. Thanks monster, for making expensive garbage.

Yeah, I called 611.. The CS rep said they had a 30 day warranty (got my rezound on launch day) then switched me to tech support.. When the tech support rep came on the line she said they were sending replacement but if they find damage on the originals ill be charged $99.99. It's worth noting that the receipt for the new set shows $74.95.
I'd like to test them on my ipod, but I don't know where my wife stashed it.

I also received a replacement set, the same as yours. Yea they are for Apple but they are better. As far as 30days that's false. They are a year like the phone. They also threatened me about the damage as well. These are better than the OEM set. I also had them send me a replacement battery as well. Verizon is sick of me, I have a list a mile long over the years of replacement phones/accessories!

Those are the same ones they sent me, the track buttons don't work for rezound, you kind of have to watch it at first as if you hold the button it will dial a call. I took mine to the corporate store and they were a couple months old, originally the manager told the guy to grab a pair out of a new phone box, but they didn't have any so he had them mailed to my house.
you guys need to DL the app "headset button controller"
You can then use any headphones with iphone controls.
I use that app to control my Beats Studio headphones. It works with my V-Moda's also.
EDIT: if you want some reasonably good deals on Monster stuff go here:
http://www.monstercable.com/outletstore/linelist.asp
I got my Studio's there & although the site said refurb, the set they sent me was a brand new set in a sealed box.
I was told by a phone support rep that I could take my iBeats to any official Verizon store to have them replaced if necessary. However, since my iBeats worked perfectly I sold them and got the Tour earbuds. They're amazing! They sound incredible and are much more solidly built. I'd strongly recommend the upgrade.

I can understand that perfectly, I mainly posted that for the posters saying they wanted to keep the replacements but needed next/previous track etc.
That is still an awfully handy app to have as it actually gives you way more functionality than the stock setup. Each button can be setup for multiple functions (IE: one click/double click/triple click etc. all perform different functions including volume adj etc.)
I find that almost every headphone you buy with inline controls are setup for ipod/iphone only & with this app you can use any headphone you want.
Honestly the iPhone beats are probably better if you are willing to use that app.

I think that's probably true & using the app is no big deal.
All you do is install it & check the box to enable it (the default setting). After that, it just works (& it works perfectly)

Funny you should ask that... I just made a post with instructions the other day:

They're from an ADW Theme called DigitalSoul.

I agree. I'm planning on keeping the new set now. If I ever use my ipod again, I'll be sure to give those buttons a workout.

Well like I said, I've purchased from them before and they were prompt and somewhat fast. As for the red flags, I use WOT and Mcafee siteadvisor in FireFox when I'm not sure and it didn't throw any flags when I first checked them out.
Glad this was of use to you.
I just bought one, thanks for the tip, I just saw it while browsing the forum page. It kind of sucks that it says it can take up to 6 business days to ship, but that is the max so it is probably just in case. Get the best bluetooth for the price of the worst.

How much was it on the site, just wondering?
The Tracking number they gave me starts with a 9 and it should start with 1Z usually for UPS, but they may use SurePost(a combo of UPS and USPS) which I dont know much about. Does anyone know what is going on with the shipping tracking?
I received a similar number dorm my order last week and it took a few days (including the weekend) before i was able to track it.
I ordered last Wednesday and it should arrive thisThursday.

I had the EXACT same experience. I ordered on Wednesday got the tracking info on Friday(I think, not by email). I was only able to track it when I checked today after like 10 or 11 maybe not sure, but before that it said "Not available". It is a different type of shipping....It is 1 hr 10 min away from me RIGHT NOW, and I wont get it till Thurday either(estimated, possibly earlier I guess).
"UPS Mail Innovations" is who is shipping it, may not be that same.

I don't recall getting an email giving me a shipping number, but I checked the webpage and shows that I'll get mine Thursday. oh and mine is 104 miles away. Knowing UPS, it'll be here on Thursday they don't tend to like to get things to me early.
So I just got this in on the 20th and wanted to play with it a bit before I said anything about it. In a nutshell, I don't like it. I like it's premise with A2DP, the accelerometer and the cool integration things, but in the end I feel it was poorly executed.
First the rubber actually hurts my ear, which is a novel concept for me because I have big ears. Even with a big earpiece, I was hoping it would apply enough grip that I could wear it without the loop, but no such luck. The over the ear hook is cool, it disconnects easy enough but not so easy that i'll pop off while on your ear and it swivels for optimal positioning, but it's hard plastic and it's a small loop.
The audio is good, but not better than any of it's competition, but in the same breath it isn't worse than it's competition either. The noise assassin, is a cool idea, but no more effective than the competition's noise canceling.
The tap tap function is cool, but why not just use a button? It has a function called shake shake so you can answer your phone call while it isn't in your ear, my only question is why not just put it in your ear and answer it then? To pair, it uses a double shake shake, which is handy to quickly put the headset into pairing mode, but how often do you need to pair a headset?
The software. Oh how i wish I could say that all of that could be made up with the software. But all you can do with the software is tell it what you want the talk button to do when you press it and if you want it to speak your calender reminders.
Lastly is the webpage. First you have to install the updater software, which you would imagine to operate similar to like a logitech software bundle but all it does is provide an interface for your headset and the webpage which is fine. You can choose from 6 different voices which is cool AND you can specify what service you want to use when you do a press and hold action. Unfortunately the majority of the services, (all 7 of them) require accounts/payments. From the webpage you can access different functions like disabling the tap tap or shake shake feature or A2PD, but my question is, why can't the app handle these?
I guess I'm being just picky or maybe I'm jaded because I just got it in and it isn't working with my phone anymore (not sure if it's a ROM issue or a headset issue) but I don't like the headset. If anyone wants it, i'll give it up for a little less than I paid for it or else it'll probably end up in a drawer whilst I continue my search for the best bluetooth headset.
Oh and a bit on dailysteals, good company, the headset only came with the 1 ear cover, and the back was a little scratched up where it looked like someone couldn't figure out how to plug it in but I can accept that for a headset that's still going for $70 to $110 new.
I'll take it off your hands if you want.

VZW Warranty Mistake

How upset would you be?
So my DNA screen took dump not sure what caused it for sure but at one point my phone did get extremely hot when charging it. Soon after the screen blacked out and never came back. OK no biggie called VZW CC/Support. After a few mins, Rep suggested warranty replacement with over night shipping. Got the phone package the next day. Open it up. It was the Droid incredible. ??? Ok called VZW back. They said that's what we replace if you had the Thunderbolt. Well of course I corrected them. I told them that was what I had before the DNA, they said sorry. Just send the phone back and we will send you the DNA but sadly I would have to wait till Monday. NO PHONE FOR THE WEEKEND. I asked if I could use the DInc till I get my DNA. NOW mind you I was being very nice considering it was there mistake.
This Rep suggested I use the Dinc and try it out and if I liked it you can use it instead of them sending me a new DNA. I was a lost for words. Then 8 Million questions started to pour in to my brain. I took this one.... I said ok give me my 600 hundred dollars back that I paid for the DNA. She asked why would you pay $600 for your phone. I told her that was the price I had to pay to keep my Unlimited Data. Then the Rep switched on her Sales pitch and started to say.... well can I look at your account data usage maybe we can see if I can get you a better data package.: My anger level went from 2 to 2 million.
I stopped her. I told her with my very very nice voice. You need to get your supervisor or you are about to hear the worst foul language ever in your life time....
OK long story short ( too late) I talked to a the Rep Super. I will be getting my DNA Monday and I will be using the Dinc till I get my DNA replacement.
Thanks for letting me vent.
I wouldve tried to back hand her through the phone
The people working for verizon are idiots. I still have my unlimited data after paying the 200 to upgrade to the DNA hahaha. Im not complaining.

hahahaha. Yea, Verizon really just has a monopoly in United States...Verizon is the only carrier from which i can get 4g or good 3g in my area. Thus, i have no choice but to use Verizon for whatever price they ask and such...plus their customer support isn't too great i.e. your experience ...really sucks. At least you're getting your DNA replaced.
So why is vzw customer service always rated #1? Everyone has a bad experience now and again, but overall vzw is THE best in the biz. And if Verizon is all that works in your area how would you know how Verizon is comparatively if you javent tried the others.

Always expect the worst anytime you deal with Verizon about any kind of issue. That way you will never be disappointed. Also plan to waste a lot of time.
In all fairness this was my first negative customer care Interactive. There is always that 1 bad apple.

Nearly every time I've had to call them I've been fed bs, attitudes, and rudeness. I've had like 2 people that were descent to deal with, one guy actually helped me. The other guy didn't do anything (so he was still useless) but at least he was pleasant. I just stopped dealing with it :-\
At least some people don't have bad luck with CSRs
Wow, no charging port cover.
That's not cool.

I work at an indirect vzw store so I have to call customer care multiple times a day... It's really hit or miss with the reps... Some of them will bend over backwards to help and others will just blow you off... If you get a bad one just call back or ask to speak to a supervisor... Customer care can pretty much do whatever you want them too... You just have to get the rep that's not lazy.

When you get people like that just call back.
I was having signal issues with my galaxy s3 and I had been through a few replacement devices. I finally asked to be moved to a different phone.
Tech guy I was taking too said it was impossible, that they would need to come to my area and do tests, I'd have to submit a service call.. Wait a few weeks, and then, only if they found a problem, they might consider it. But it would be a razor or something.
I said I wasn't happy with that, and I had been swapped devices in the post. He said no, this was their policy. (I wanted the dna).
I said thank you and hung up.
I called back 3 min later. Talked to another tech. Told her the same thing. Bad signal, 3rd replacement and she, on her own, not more than. 1 min into the call said "want me to send you a dna?"
She sent it overnight, entire call took less than 5 min, other guy had me on the line for 20.
Just goes to show you.. They Can do stuff for you, you just need to weed out the a-holes who lie and say "nope.. That's impossible sorry"
I've also noticed that the time you have been a customer seems to matter. Newer customers seem to get less in the way of good help. They have special policies for "tenured" customers which might explain some of the differences between personal experiences. I have been a customer for 10 years

That's probably it, I've had Verizon before but it was quite a while ago. Only been with them now for about a year and a half. Seems silly to me that they do that but I guess people get phones then sell them or whatever pretty often. I'd imagine they don't like that. As long as their service stays the best I'll keep them, even if their CS is a joke... I just hope I never have to call them again lol.

You guys gotta think about all the BS calls the reps get on a daily basis. For every person with a legitimate issue with their phone, there are probably 4 just calling in trying to get an early upgrade, or get their phone swapped because they did something to it. If they just allowed everyone to swap phones whenever they wanted then the whole subsidized system just goes out the window.
