Need help formatting my msd card - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked all of the forums and google and didnt find a similar problem as the one I have. My msd card is recognized by my computer but I cant transfer files to and from my phone. Im trying to format my msd card to fat 32, but right clicking the drive from my computer (wimdows 7) , the format option is not available.
Is there a program I can download to format my sd card?

have u tried another sd card?

Get a MicroSD Adapter!
I strongly recommend that you invest in a MicroSD USB adapter. They're super cheap ($1.39 if you google "USB Microsd Flash Card Reader Adapter - Black" [I can't post links 'cause I'm a noob]) and easy to find. Mine has paid for itself 100 times over

SD card windows problem

Hello all,
I just received a patriot micro sd 32gig class 10 card! Its awesome. My phone reads it and I can move files in between the internal sd card and the external but when I connect it to my computer it will not recognize the card, just the phone.
I have also tried putting in my camera with the sd card attachment and formatted it under fat32 but that didn’t work either. Got any suggestions?
I'm just going on memory here and dont have a cable to test right now but it seems like the one time I did transfer files from comp to Atrix SDcard it was called "DCIM" or something like that.? Its been a while and I cant test right now so if Im wrong then sorry.
I'm just getting the MB860 under my computer... but under the Motorola media link it find the SD, just not under my computer.
Is it inside the mb860? Cuz when I click properties on that it only shows 10 his or so, and that's the internal

the card is probably formatted in a FAT format, which windows won't recognize if it's over 4gb. Format it for FAT32 or NTFS, and you should be fine.
It is under fat32. But I thought android can't read ntfs?

64Gb MicroSD card not visible over USB

I've just installed a Sandisk 64Gb MicroSD card, and formatted it on the S2. I previously had a 32Gb card. For some reason the new SD card is not visible on a PC when I connect in MTP mode - I can only see the 11Gb internal SD card. I'm running ICS (Resurrection Remix 1.1).
Has anyone else had problems with 64Gb cards?

Windows 7 only gives the option of exFAT or NTFS (it was formatted as exFAT). I tried formatting it to FAT32 from the DOS prompt but it just hung at 0% complete.
???
Apparently there's a way to use ntfc on gs2 but the guy who mentioned it on XDA ,I can't recall exactly what he said. He's called trev186

Something wrong with your card reader or windows then as FAT 32 is the Windows default tested and formatted a card 30 seconds ago .

Must be a Windows problem. I just plugged the card reader into a Linux machine and was able to format in FAT(32). Both phone and PC can see the card now, but am having problems with the phone stopping responding while copying. Hmmm...

Firstly and most important point....any drive or storage media(external/internal) cannot be formatted to fat 32 filesystem if its capacity or size is more than 32 gigs......there are ways to format it to fat 32 but thats actually not pure fat 32....
Secondly s2 supports cards upto 32 gigs..i don't know how you actually are using it....it might not be giving you the full capacity of 64 gigs...(please confirm that)
So the case here may be that..either your sd card has been formatted to an unknown format by the phone that the pc cannot recognize when connected via phone...
So firstly please try re formatting the sd card with your phone and then plug it into your pc via the card reader...if your pc shows the option that the sd card needs to be formatted then...its true..use a 32 gig sd card or any compatible device...else try formatting it to fat 32 via usb extreme software (well google it)...
Else you cannot use it on s2 with ntfs format...cuz the s2 doesn't support ntfs...

When I formatted the card from the phone I got the "Blank USB Storage" notification immediately after the format was complete. If I then tried to copy anything to it using ES File Explorer (a file from the internal SD card for example) I got "copy failed".
I'm now using Windows Explorer to copy files onto the SD card (I was using Directory Opus before on the PC) and so far so good...
Hmm...did you try to use partition wizards to format your sd card via card reader? The partition wizard softwares are available for free if you do a quick google...format into FAT 32...I use EASEUS partition manager...

[Q] Formating Micro SD Card

So my S3 Pebble Blue is on it's way & I want to put all music & stuff on to my 64Gb Micro sd card.
Do I....
1: Format on the pc, if so which format & would the S3 still want to format when I put it in.
2: Format it in the phone & then remove & insert in to PC to transfer all my music & stuff?
I am familiar with android & formatting micro sd cards. I just wondered if being a 64Gb would be a different matter.

I also just received my SGS3 and inserted the SanDisk 64gb micro sdxc card.
I didnt format it, because it just seemed to work fine without formatting. Now I put all my data on it, but after a restart of the phone the card is suddenly corrupted...
In my phone it recognizes the card, but says its corrupted and needs to formatted. It then ejects the cards for safe removal. In my pc it doesn't recognise the card at all.
Does anyone have an idea on how to recover the data on it?
And what is otherwise the best way to format it?
Thx
RE:- 64GB MicroSDXC errors
I would use a external compatible Micro SDXC reader and connected it to your computer and try and recover the card on the PC. (first)
i) what operating system are you using on the PC.
ex-fat format problem in windows xp. If you have windows 7 it should be able to read ex-fat cards natively.
If you have xp you can try and install the
search for the knowledge base article 955704 on Microsoft Technet support package to enable xp to read ex-fat cards.
In the past I have used my external 9 in one reader to fix corrupted cards to recover the files from them using recuva or similar software it will restore the files onto your pc hard disk.
let me know how you get on.
Thanks a lot for the quick advice.
I don't have an external reader yet, so I ordered one just now. I have win7 on my pc, so I guess that will be ok. I'll try it later this week when I have the reader in.
Once I have it recovered (or not), what is the best practice for setting up the card? What's the best way to format it?

Free PC program Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva mount via USB or scard adapter.
Or even try Hexamob (need root) our some other file recovery app
When done, best and easiest to format through phone.

What partition is default with sdcards?

If you saw my other post, its similar to this one? My question though is by default, what partition are SD cards set at? I had read thru other website searches, that it was exFAT? If that were the case than my android phone wouldn't recognize a brand new 16gb class 4 sdcard right? Than in which case I would have to format the card to a fat32 format?
If this helps,my ps3 also doesn't recognize the 16gb card but it does recognize the 8gb...I remember formatting the 8gb one to fat32 which by process of elimination makes me assume the 16gb card is on a format incompatible with my android phone/ps3...
Which software would y'all use to partition the entire 16gb card? I can't use my phone as my phone doesn't even recognize the card. As a matter of fact while in recovery it tells me there's an error in mounting

I am attaching a very basic Windows tool to format SD cards to FAT32, simple!
Is it possible that this sdcard came with a different partition that's inconsistent with both android and my ps3...ohh and I haven't ruled out the possibility of having a problem with the sdcard slot. I've had problems with the 8gb one working but its working fine now. They are two different manufacturers with these cards....maybe this 16gb card isn't partitioned with fat32....

Formating sdxc card to fat 32 using only an android app

Hello I saw he video how to change int sd with ext sd so the phone thinks it has more space and so on... The truble is I need to format sd card to fat 23. And life does wonders - my card reader suddenly stopped working and I cant conect it to pc and format the card. Any way to go around that? Maybe there are apps that can do it in the phone? Coz I cant find them.

if you are rooted you could try to format the card in CWM, not sure though if it is 1) possible and 2) if it is then formated to Fat32 or the system you had on it before.
You could also try to connect your phone to your PC and format it that way.

Hello, ty for taking the time to answer, but i tried both of those things, both in pc and cwm i can format, but i cant select how to format, i dont know if it formats to fat or to fat32 or to something other. Besides after trying to format i tried to use the int to ext sd swaping (the thing that i wanted to do in the first place and the reason why i need to format to ext 32) and it didnt work so i believe that formating without selecting TO WHAT to format doesnt work.
