I did some searching and couldn't really come up with an answer. Maybe I searched the wrong keywords, I don't know...but I didn't find what I was looking for. I'm running the UCLE2 ICS leak and was wondering if it is supposed to have the text input/spell check feature on the android keyboard that is talked about on the Android website. Other ICS roms I have run on other phones have had it, and was wondering if its supposed to be in the leak or if Samsung took it out? Do others have this feature and I' just doing something wrong?
Are you talking about XT9 predictive text? Ive never heard of a spell check...

Sorry, I should have worded my question better. I'm talking about when you type a word wrong and it underlines it in red and you can touch the word to bring up a list of words to correct it with. Mine doesn't do that and was wondering if it was supposed to.
I don't see it anywhere in settings. But if you need, Google play has an app.

I was just looking to see why CM9 has inline underlining of misspelled words. But Stock doesn't. So it's an app? not a function of ICS?
Wait this app is not what i was looking for... CM9 has the dropdown built in as you type or after dictating.
Its a function of stock aosp ics keyboard. I discovered that removing that keyboard takes it away on my last device. It used to interfere with my Swype so it had to go...

So is it something that Samsung took out? I was running AOKP and vanilla ICS on my old Vibrant and had it, but they weren't TWiz roms. It seems kind of dumb to take out a usable function.

I don't think it's the keyboard because it worked even when switched to other keyboards.
I'm running UCLE2 and I put CM9 on top for full AOSP. I have the auto spell checker enabled but I use an alternative keyboard. The spell checker is part of AOSP input settings.

Most launchers have a 'Force Launcher to stay in memory' setting. Not exactly sure where but I know for sure Go Launcher has this setting. Someone else will likely post where / how to get to the setting (or I will later today when Im not about to pass out).
Not all of us have root just yet so editing the build.prop isnt much of an option for us.

It is pretty well assumed if you are hanging out on xda you have rooted your phone at the very least. There has been a root method since before the phone was even officially released. So I am not sure who you are referring to.
Thanks for the tip OP.

Those options stopped doing anything as of Gingerbread. Since Nova Launcher doesn’t support anything prior to ICS, much less Gingerbread, such options would serve no purpose.

I use Nemus launcher without a lag issue but it does re-draw sometimes. I'm am here to keep up with Note development and yes it is hard to resist modding with some cool options out there..but 3 out of 4 devices I have are "rooted" and one is not....this one. I think maybe some, like myself have waited to see official ICS for the Note drop. Meanwhile I get my flash-fix with the other 3!

is there a reason why manufacturers or even launchers in vanilla android isn't default to stay in memory? launcher redraws just makes it feel and looked like a bug and ultimately deprive the user experience in my view.

lets see non rooting you can still get 1st ICS leak, 2nd ICS leak, install flipboard from the theme/apps section, Premium suite, learn more about your phone, ask questions you may have, learn tips, tricks, and fixes. Theres a lot more, but i think its enough to counter your argument.
i'm not rooted but have all the above mentioned and it has made a big difference. I have tried root several times and to be honest im happy the way it is right now and just tweak certain things i need for the time being. I dont have the time to constantly mess with my phone, so until the offical ICS is released i will probably stay unrooted
I just installed the "S Voice" that comes with the new SGS3 and it works. I found this out from this THREAD and this THREAD. It is ok and looks to work good with our device if you are running an ICS Rom. I am currently on MeanRom ICS v1.0 and it works good. Enjoy
Edit: One that should work after they tried and block us lol.

Just think of it as (dare I say it) Siri. It's pretty simple and easy to use.
Click the bottom-right if you need more help or go into the settings. If I were you, I'd turn of the 'Hi Galaxy' wakeup since it's pointless having to say that every time I want to use it.

Hello all, got a question for anyone whom can help. I found a port of the new search, "Google Now", from Jelly Bean that supposedly works with ICS. Just out of curiosity, has anyone tested this with the EVOLTE and gotten any luck? Perferebly with the mean rom. If I could get feed back that would be great, so I know if I should port it or not. Biggest thing I'm looking forward to in 4.1... Thanks in advance!

I have it working on Mean Rom 1.3. The difference is that it learns from your searches based on the cards that google has given and future ones they will release, so no its not exactly like regular search.

Yes and no, it actually does use regular search history too. The main thing that makes this awesome is the fact that it actually gathers all the data and presents it to you in a neat and quick format WHEN you need it.
I.E. if I google "results to X game" or something, it will continuously pop that card up throughout the match and at the end with the final result. If you do a quick search like "who's the actor in X film" it pulls up a clean cast list as opposed to googling "imdb cast X film" then clicking on it, and scrolling down the IMDB page/app. It's the little things

Nope. As far as I can tell from what I read, the voice is intertwined with Jellybean's kernel, so it probably won't come to ICS. What you CAN do is use a keyboard to "type" by voice search but you still have to hit search. It also will not speak the query back to you.

Ummm according to others that looked into the code, it was said that HTC removed more of the quicksettings code from many more files than last time when we didn't have it... That's what they are referring to. Nothing to do with 4.2 and the quick settings addition that brings in itself as that acts differently than what was removed... Though could be the reason HTC started removing it to prep for how they handle the 4.2 quick settings...

Yeah, I think its not a practical thing on a note, but on a 7inch or larger tablet it ciuld be useful for the ways the previous posters described.
Must have
This is a must have feature for people like me because i am always trying to do three things at once with my phone but if i can do two at a time thats a time saver. Blackstar ROMs almost have this perfected. They have the multi window app tray when you hold the back button and you can pull apps out to use for multi window but they do come out half size so they just overlap. I tried downloading Multi window manager and it tried to patch an XML file i think but it still didnt work after. If anyone has some advice on how to get it to work you should check it out
