that you put in post #1, you currently have an LP7 kernel. Those are LP7 kernels. They should work for you just fine.
(You should also re-read post #1 of Chainfire's CF-root thread, as the information outlining this is contained there under the heading "Help! Which file do I use ?")

Thank you!
Yes but I have read many people saying that those letters are codes for countries, that do not work on all phones, etc..
What puzzled me most was to have two files for LP7, while it works on all LP7, there should be only one CF-Root for each kernel?
Well, since you showed me the original kernel, I can now test these CF-Root, and see if they work or not for me.
Thank you.

It's safe. But I recommend you to update your LP7 to LPD. Is the best Stock ICS right now. Brazilian ICS ROMs sucks.

The site samsung updates does not have the brazilian LPD for a while, no? Do you have a reliable source for me to download?
You also do not have a reliable source of tutorial in Portuguese for me to follow to upgrade?
Thanks for the patience and reading

Thanks, But as u can see the kernel and baseband are different. Which kernel shd I use? And I don;t understand 95% of the article! lol. I am a super noob!! I appreciate if u can help me make sense of all these things.
KF1 Kernel a kernel is not a baseband .
Kernel is the bit between cpu and OS .Baseband is the modem for network/GPS .
As rooting voids your warranty you should understand what you are doing before carrying out the task .

I just picked up one of those Kernels(KF4) and flashed it, phone is working just fine, so I guess I picked up the correct one, however no idea whats the difference between them anyways

is this the file I shood use to root my phone.
Thanks Dansk
I happen to have a similar question!
I'm on 2.3.3/XWKF1 right now, if so, should I download CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OJV_KF1-v4.0-CWM4.zip?
But isn't it the KG1 that's gonna update me to 2.3.4?
This info to be exact...

Correct root file for KI9 kernel
Hello everybody,

Your link is bad. Has the ellipses in the URL, so it doesn't link to anything.
I can't find a KI9 firmware for the GT-I9100. What is your full model information?
EDIT: I think I see - XWKI9 looks like it is a carrier branded firmware for Belgium, which is why I didn't find it initially. See this post. (which I found REALLY easily with a Google search)
KI9 kernel
Sorry for the bad link, the thread is called : "[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2 Download" , and the particular post is from "Crucio_".
My full model information is :

Baseband-version : I9100XXKI4
Kernel-version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI9-CL630390 [email protected] #2
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKI9
Thx for the quick response
EDIT: The link you reffered to is actualy the same thread I wrote in this post . I just would like confirmation about the KI4 kernel being compatible with the KI9 version.

EDIT: ah. That post I linked is the one you attempted to link.
So long story short, you need the same kernel HeavyLaws needed, the KI4 kernel.
I think i understand
I don't want to keep rambling about this, but I would like to understand how this works.
I noticed that the Baseband-version also ends on KI4, is this of any relevance?
So i guess if you have time, i would like the long story
Thx again
EDIT: doesn't HeavyLaws need the KF4 kernel instead of the KI4 kernel?

Re: HeavyLaws - whoops! You're right. He needs KF4. You need KI4. Sorry about that!
So long story isn't really that long actually. From what I understand, Proximus just took XWKI4, branded it, added their tweaks, and re-versioned it as XWKI9. There are probably more details than that, but I don't really know all of them.
KI9 kernel
I get it
So in theorie, flashing the KI4 kernel should't give any problems cause it's basically the same kernel as the KI9 with some minor tweaks?
Just want to be sure that i won't jam my phone by using this kernel .
Thx for the answers man, I appreciate it

Pretty much, but you can just flash the KI9 kernel back after you get root if you want. Stock KI9 kernel is on this page, just search for the term "XWKI9 Stock Kernel". This will also have the effect of getting rid of the yellow triangle when rebooting the phone.

Help with upgrading from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5

I'm in the UK, on T-Mobile. Latest official update for us is to 2.3.3, or specifically from Kies:
PDA:KG2 / PHONE:KG1 / CSC:KF1
I have been looking through this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
to find out which ROM I should go for, but have just been confuzzled by the vast array of choice. Could someone please point me in the right direction?
CSC are basically left untouched and modems(Phone) you will have to try each one on your own as they are region specific. Though there are some popular choices like. All's left is kernel which is the version 2.3.3 your phone is currently on. So flashing only 2.3.5 which is KI4 (PDA) will do.
Thanks. Okay, so suppose I just want to root my current firmware. Where do I go to find the instructions and requisite files? The thread I linked wasn't much help with the latter.
Edit: Ah wait, with some searching I found this thread. Nvm

Wrong !
KI4 is Android 2.3.4 ...
... KI3 is 2.3.5 !
Yeah, it is a bit confusing with Samsung's naming convention for its ROM versions
I'd recommend this ROM, very customizable via the Kitchen App

You can root without the need to insecure kernel. The method is available in the root guide in the official firmware thread in the dev forum.
If you want to use an insecure kernel then you can use anyone of them, doesn't need to match your current firmware... just chose the latest one.

[Q] How do I root my Kernel version? (BOLPD)

Hey guys,
How do I root my galaxy s2 with BOLPD Kernel. I can't find any insecure BOLPD Kernels. I've rooted with another kernel yesterday, but it was basicly messed up. Anybody suggestions?
It's the Netherlands version.
It's T-Mobile NL Branded. It is the i9100 version, but with some boot and down animations.
Anybody?
Chainfire said:
Help! Which file do I use ?
Listen closely, for I will say zis only once!
Go to Settings -> About phone -> Kernel Version. Note the string present there:
2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG1-CL349526
What matters most (KG1) in this case, is in bold. Try to find the matching file under downloads:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.zip
The XX and OXA identifiers are not that important. Usually a "KG1" kernel is a "KG1" kernel, and that is that. Sometimes (pretty rare) it happens there will be multiple different kernels with the same name in different firmwares, that are actually different. If this happens, they are usually only very minor changes and you should expect them to still be fully compatible. I include the "XX" and "OXA" identifiers so the very advanced users can deduce from which full firmware I have taken the kernel file.
Don't worry too much, just find the matching download and use it. What if there is no matching download ? You can ask me to make one, but I can tell you right now, I very very rarely make CF-Root's for kernels on request, unless it is the very latest kernel that has been released by Samsung. In the latter case, be sure to let me know. If there's no match and I'm not making one, try finding the closest match. You should treat "KG1" as a number, but instead of 1-9, we have 1-9, A-Z (where A would be 10, and Z would be 35). "KG2" is really close to "KG1", "KF1" is not close to "KG1" at all. I hope that makes sense.

most of the people are rooting their phone for the purpose of flashing Custom ROMS, when they use any method other than rooting custom kernel they wont get CWM, so their next question will be posted How can I install CWM? therefore the best method to suggest for rooting is flashing custom Kernel.
If CF-root is not available for the perticual firmware, there are many other rooting kernels are available for ICS like Siyah, Speedmod etc..regardles of the firmware version number. better to recommend them instead of others....

which is that new method??
most of the people are rooting their phone for the purpose of flashing Custom ROMS, when they use any method other than rooting custom kernel they wont get CWM, so their next question will be posted How can I install CWM? therefore the best method to suggest for rooting is flashing custom Kernel.
If CF-root is not available for the perticual firmware, there are many other rooting kernels are available for ICS like Siyah, Speedmod etc..regardles of the firmware version number. better to recommend them instead of others....

He was failing to understand/find the Cf root, this is the simplest method.
Plus yes it don't give you the cwm manager or cwm, but you can always use the stock recovery and choose that same cwm to get cwm and flash your ROM.
Plus no triangle and no counter.
