Still can't find insecure Kernel.
Hi: having searched, I can't seem to find either a secure or an insecure kernel: looking for BVKH2 - which I guess is quite new since I've just got my handset.
Any other sources that anybody might know of please?
Thanks,
Mike

Correct root file for KI9 kernel
Hello everybody,
I updated my firmware version trough Kies today, from KF3 to KI9.
As I wanted to root my S2 in order to install MIUI, i searched for the KI9 kernel at Chainfire's thread, but didn't find the corresponding file.
I searched the forum and came up with this :

Unfortunately I can not reply on an developers section of the forum, so i thought this was the best place to ask it:
Which kernel should I use in order to correctly root my phone ?
Many thanks

Yes. There's only 1 insecure and 1 secure of KF4 in that link anyways.

Your link is bad. Has the ellipses in the URL, so it doesn't link to anything.
I can't find a KI9 firmware for the GT-I9100. What is your full model information?
EDIT: I think I see - XWKI9 looks like it is a carrier branded firmware for Belgium, which is why I didn't find it initially. See this post. (which I found REALLY easily with a Google search)

KI9 kernel
Sorry for the bad link, the thread is called : "[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2 Download" , and the particular post is from "Crucio_".
My full model information is :
Model : GT-I9100
Android-version: 2.3.5
Baseband-version : I9100XXKI4
Kernel-version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI9-CL630390 [email protected] #2
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKI9
Thx for the quick response
EDIT: The link you reffered to is actualy the same thread I wrote in this post . I just would like confirmation about the KI4 kernel being compatible with the KI9 version.

EDIT: ah. That post I linked is the one you attempted to link.
So long story short, you need the same kernel HeavyLaws needed, the KI4 kernel.

I think i understand
I don't want to keep rambling about this, but I would like to understand how this works.
I noticed that the Baseband-version also ends on KI4, is this of any relevance?
So i guess if you have time, i would like the long story
Thx again
EDIT: doesn't HeavyLaws need the KF4 kernel instead of the KI4 kernel?

Re: HeavyLaws - whoops! You're right. He needs KF4. You need KI4. Sorry about that!
So long story isn't really that long actually. From what I understand, Proximus just took XWKI4, branded it, added their tweaks, and re-versioned it as XWKI9. There are probably more details than that, but I don't really know all of them.

KI9 kernel
I get it
So in theorie, flashing the KI4 kernel should't give any problems cause it's basically the same kernel as the KI9 with some minor tweaks?
Just want to be sure that i won't jam my phone by using this kernel .
Thx for the answers man, I appreciate it

Pretty much, but you can just flash the KI9 kernel back after you get root if you want. Stock KI9 kernel is on this page, just search for the term "XWKI9 Stock Kernel". This will also have the effect of getting rid of the yellow triangle when rebooting the phone.

Please ask Chainfire in his CF-Root thread (you have got the link already) for such a version ...
or flash a newer ROM via Odin (like described in Intratech's thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) - for which there is a corresponding CF-Root kernel available.
There is a way to CWM, but you have to go for it

Glad we can help.Better than screwing your phone thats for sure.If your gonna keep on flashing firmwares or ROMs then i recommend you download Titanium Back-up from the market. It backs-up and restores all your apps + data and links them back to the market so you dont loose anything or keep having to re-download stuff again and again.Handy if you have paid apps or games and dont want to loose data
EDIT: I imagine when you flashed the new firmware you kernel changed so you could root,no?!

CWM Manager
Because of incompatibility with ROM Manager,
I wrote and included "CWM Manager". This is a new app (as of March 30, 2011). You can find it under Applications -> CWM. It is much faster to use than manually booting into CWM and selecting these options.

not look for a kernel with all XWI4 name with one that is only I4, it works.
Example:
the kernel was UHKI3, and use an insecure Kerne XXKI3
Well, stoney73, as I read you can't have ROM Manager if you root with CF, and I like ROM Manager, because I rooted a Motorola Defy and I have ROM Manager on it.
Try this thread
Thanks MistahBungle, but I do not see any I4 insecure, only original.
That's funny, because when I click on the link that says "Post was getting large, so older versions have been moved to here GT-I9100", it takes me to a great long list of older kernel versions.
And you'll never guess which insecure kernel is listed/available for download ? Yep, KI4 insecure.
Funny about that, eh
Edit to add - Anyone who reads this & can read/search and has a spare 30 seconds, please take the time to click that link in Odia's thread and confirm to the OP there is indeed an insecure KI4 kernel available for download on that Hotfile page. And then slap the OP with a large trout old-school IRC style for me.

Thanks for your support MistahBungle, but I've asked Odia to send me the insecure and the original XWKI4 Kernel, and he sent me the download links.
He shouldn't have sent you the download links.
Why ? Because the kernel you were looking for was available by clicking the link in his thread I gave you a link to & going to the Hotfile page where he has all the kernels listed available for download.
The fact you were unable to perform that simplest of tasks suggests to me you shouldn't be messing around with your phone in the first place, wouldn't be surprised to see a "Hlap mai fone broked" post from you in the very near future :-/
And what if say that I successfully rooted it? You don't know me so you can't say that I'll brick my phone!
Can't you understand that I can't see them? And this is because of my browser, not because of me! I opened the thread with Mozilla and I finally saw them. I don't use Mozilla very often and you can't say that I am not intelligent only because I'm Romanian and I'm not American. And you can't say this because you don't know me! Let's get this over!

by flashing a insecure kernel you will get a flash counter +
By flashing a cutom kernel like Siyah your stock hebrew supported firmware will not be get effected, it will be there as it is..

there is also no original kernel available for this firmware, if you flash someother custom kernel and if something went wrong to go back...

I'm afraid because i dont found the original kernel, so if anything goes wrong, my phone will be a paper weight...
This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 don't contains my kernel version...
The files CF-Root-SGS2_DX_XTC_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip and CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip are compatibles with my kernel version? They can brick my phone?
Thanks

that you put in post #1, you currently have an LP7 kernel. Those are LP7 kernels. They should work for you just fine.
(You should also re-read post #1 of Chainfire's CF-root thread, as the information outlining this is contained there under the heading "Help! Which file do I use ?")
Thank you!
Yes but I have read many people saying that those letters are codes for countries, that do not work on all phones, etc..
What puzzled me most was to have two files for LP7, while it works on all LP7, there should be only one CF-Root for each kernel?
Well, since you showed me the original kernel, I can now test these CF-Root, and see if they work or not for me.
Thank you.
It's safe. But I recommend you to update your LP7 to LPD. Is the best Stock ICS right now. Brazilian ICS ROMs sucks.

Thanks for the confirmation. I am more secure now.
The site samsung updates does not have the brazilian LPD for a while, no? Do you have a reliable source for me to download?
You also do not have a reliable source of tutorial in Portuguese for me to follow to upgrade?
Thanks for the patience and reading

There isn't a brazilian LPD, but doesn't matter. I'm going to send you a PM, trying to explain in portuguese.

A question about CF-root.

Hi, was just wondering if anyone could help me figure out which version of CF-root to use for my S2? Major noob at all this so probably asking a stupid question.
Baseband version - i9100xxlps
build number - iml74k.xwlp7
Thanks.

Read the section in the CFRoot thread which has the heading 'Help ! Which file do I use ?' in bold red. This will enable you to choose the correct CFRoot kernel.

There are two versions which have the LP7 code that the thread says I should look for. Does it matter which one I use?
