Kernel can only be installed via PC and fastboot.
You cannot edit something, while it is being used.

thanks for your response .. coz i found out in the market name "kernel manager" will flash the kernel in sdcard.. i dont think if it is works in mini pro.
its because se phones dont have dedicated partition for recovery, the recovery itself is embedded into kernel boot.img.

that may be not completely true, since there is recovery for stock rom with the stock kernel.
so there may be a way to loop into recovery to another partition where the rom is..
i'm not completely sure though, and have no idea how to explain it..
just an observation
Recovery can be installed to system partition or in the kernel. Both is possible.

Hi,
I want to unlock bootloader and now I want to know something about the installation of paranoidandroid.
How can I flash the boot.img? With sony flash tool? So i click on the flash, select fastboot mode and then on the right side Doomlords "select kernel to flash"?
So i flash the kernel boot.img, reboot my device to cwm recovery and do it like in the tutorial?
Thx in advance

I think KeiranFTW was planning to do a cwm recovery bootable through a stock kernel and a locked boot loader. Bug him
if i get the european ftf for ICS and root on my Locked BL Xperia U, I can try to use the already existing CWM for Xperia U, and make it work more or less the same way it works on 2.1Stock X8, by changing one file that is loaded on the boot, to add an instruction for the keypress and the recovery .tar file... i can try, but maybe no success... just waiting to get my hands on ICS

Man, you can already get ICS for your device, like i did. Get FTF from st25a from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916419
Flash it via flashtool and tick "exclude Baseband".
You'll get an european version, like i did.
The use Bin4ry script to root it (it works, i've tested it).
Can you then let us know your progress?

I didn't know this was possible...exclude baseband and you get a European version? How? I know where that box is in flashtool but didn't know about this issue. My phone has poor reception since I used the Indian ICS ftf, I live on the other side of the world and wondered was there a slight compatibility issue.

My last Rom was from OZ, from C.Republic...
I'm on TMN and my sms's are just fine. And i'm using the Australian FTF without baseband. Works like a charm. And i don't use the stock sms app. GO Sms is a lot better. Heavier, but better.

BTW, can someone post here the link to the GITHub sources for the Keiran CWM for Xperia U GB ? i'll need them

Hi
With this method you can fix your touch problem if you flashed a wrong rom
Things we need:
Flash tools
Rage kernel gb
Stock .62 firmware for your device(ftf)
wrong rom that bricked your touchscreen
What should we do:
1:flash your device gb .62 firmware
2:flash rage kernel
3:flash that wrong rom again
4:if wrong rom was ics,rom will not boot then remove the battery to turn phone off then flash .62 firmware again if it was gb,do the same work
5:wait until stock rom boots the touch will be fixed
6:if touch screen fixed, press thanks button
I tested this method two times and worked
Devices that unbricked with this method:
Mini
Mini pro

Thing is: I don't know what rom initially broke the touchscreen since I got the phone in this condition, hoping for an easy fix
I don't think there's a way to tell what rom was on there....so my best bet is still random flashing, right?

I know what kernel is, but my USB port is broken.
u can flash kernel through the flashtool (most kernels are in .ftf file)
u need to be in flashmode to flash the kernel..
but if u want to flash it through the xrec or CWM there are some kernel in .ZIP file like the doomkernel..

Without a usb port, all you can do is to restore to your previous backup ( if you have backed up).

Dear all,
I would like to backup the kernel currently installed on this Neo V. I don't see such an option in Flashtool, therefore I'm asking for you help!
The scenario is quite simple: I'm running a stock ICS with root and custom kernel, and I would like to backup everything (kernel + clockworkmod backup), install "Super Jelly Bean rom", and -just in case- be able to roll back to the current system.
Thanks in advance!

There is no use even if u export it to .img.. Because it will the same kernel that you have flashed..
seee.. u cant flash a kernel through Neo V.. it needs a pc/laptop to do that..
but in many of samsung galaxy series phones u can flash kernel.through phone and no need of pc for that.. but that privilege is not there for our xperia devices..
hope you got it now.

While you use a ROM no changes are made in kernel. All changes you do is in your system. So no need to backup a kernel as it will be the same. As much as you recovery is concerned, it is included in the ramdisk of a kernel so re flashing the kernel will have recovery. But just in case you did some changes to kernel, just unpack the ramdisk and edit it accordingly, repack and done! You'll have the required kernel. Flash it anytime you want
Cheers,
AJ
