This is petition to let HTC know that us with their tablets want the latest version of android for our devices, even if HTC dosent think we need it, it brings numerous great ne features, such as Face Unlock, Google Chrome, updated camera functionality, speed improvments, and much more!
The people signing this petition are people who own or atleast support this product and want to see it get the latest updates and features avalible, those who own the device bought it so that they could get the great support from HTC, and would like to have their money be well spent, so, in hopes of succeding, please update our devices to Google Android 4.0.4 (or whatever the latest version is)

Signed, but I also don't think this will make any difference unfortunately.
I have emailed their support asking them for a proper answer to why this decision was taken and I think you all should do the same. If you get a cut and paste answer you should ask them again until they give in and give you a non-template answer.
i signed it, but i don't even own a flyer! . Just want to get those sh*ttakers at HTC to to something for their customers. I owned a Nexus One and on the last update they f*cked the wifi and multitouch, and they were like ''oh buy or new nexus s and you will not have any problems''. They are lazy at htc.

Suggest you amend the petition to include:
"If HTC concludes that it is not a viable business decision to update Flyer/View and other legacy devices, please release drivers and source code to the enthusiast community so that they can more rapidly fix bugs and continue to promote and support HTC devices."
It's somewhat more likely that they will release source code than waste internal man-hours on obsolete equipment. Look at it from their point of view: They make money when people buy new stuff. Why would they spend money to make the old stuff more useful? Don't hate the capitalists; learn to speak their language.

just because its obsolete, its still delivered with a NDA agreement.
the source and its associated hardware is for some 3rd parties , still with NDA and license, which means none of its source code can be distributed in its original sourcecode form, and can only be publically used and distributed in a binary form.
so i doubt that you will see any complete source tree for the Flyer technology, as the scribe technology proprietary solution is still a NDA contract service, and licensed as well.
Signed it !!!!!!!

I've noticed people in the flyer and jetstream fora are complaining that the ics update.isn't happening, well, maybe instead of complaining you all should try to make a small difference and sight the petition so we can have atleast a little hope of getting it. As of rift now I think we have 180 signatures, we should get to ATLEAST 1000 so share it on google+ and Twitter and facebook, we shall succeed

Petitions like this are useless because they have no business impact on the vendor. They have already sold you a tablet and you won't be buying another for at least a year, so you are not a consideration in future business. If you want to have an impact hit HTC in the only thing that counts, sales in the near future. I encourage all of you to forget petitions and take every opportunity to become involved in reviews of new products and use those opportunities to comment on how HTC treats support, upgrades, locked bootloaders etc. This has far more potential impact because new buyers read the reviews and comments and can then make informed decisions to buy or not to buy a vendor's products.
pheh, if you (I) dont try who will? and how do we know if we dont try, im trying to get this going, im trying to get ics for our devices

You will see a ICS on the Flyer, but not from HTC
As for HTC, I'm done, my next smartphone and tablet will not carry the HTC Logo and neither will those of my close friends whom i'm persuading to look elsewhere

Does anyone know where I can find support for the HTC EVO View 4G? I am trying to find rom developments and hopefully a future update to Ice Cream Sandwich. After doing some research, I noticed that the device was not listed in their upgrade list. I also did not find any support on XDA besides people pointing me out to the HTC Flyer forum. Is this a dead device? Seems like no one supports this device.. I am willing to donate to developers if someone does a port or upgrade to ICS. For those of you who are looking for rom developments like myself, lets start a fund for developers to draw more support for this device.

Times are tough but I still would figure out a way to scrounge up a donation towards ICS for the View, love this device but ICS is what it needs badly. (hell even HC would be better than nothing but ICS is what I really wanna be running on this device. )

seeing that there were 3 big sales recently on these, I'm hoping the development will start to pick up. I'm sure one developer snatched one. It's just a waiting game at this point. Hopefully the rumors are true and HC comes out by the end of the month or early january. HC and ICS launcher from team syndicate will have to do for now.
+ I'll gladly donate for ICS or HC as well.
I don't have any money but I'm willing to offer 13 AOL trial disks to any developer willing to work on the View. Each disk will give you 10 hours of free internet.

Can someone inform the admin or whoever is the head of the forum to edit the HTC Flyer title and include the Evo View 4G in it?
I have a feeling some people aren't finding the section itself. I'm pretty sure not every new buyer out there is gonna know the Evo View is a brother of the HTC Flyer.
That may attract more people into this section and get development or something going.

Yep, I posted yesterday in that thread asking to have the Evo View 4G included in the title with the Flyer. The OP of that thread either missed my post or ignored it.
One issue I see is that Honeycomb, when it finally drops, will have much better HTC Scribe integration -- The official Honeycomb might well end up being the best ROM, and at the very least, it might need to drop before it's worth investigating upgrading the ROM to ICS from there. The lack of development for this device kinda sucks, but that goes along with the device just not selling all that well (which is obviously a bad thing because you can get it now for like $75 more than a Kindle Fire, and it beats the pants off the Fire).
If you want a tablet to play with, pick up a TouchPad on eBay -- My View has stayed stock and I love using it, but my TouchPad makes a better tinker toy.
My tp looks great on the nightstand on its touchdstone. Unfortunately it is where it spends most of its time since I got my EV.

Unfortunately the admins always seem to have different feelings about merging or seperating forums/sub forums for similar devices. I was pushing to get the Inspire 4G and DHD forums merged a while back with no luck, and they're basically identical devices. It seems they will only make a change if A.) People are bricking their device due to confusion about what can and cant be flashed. Or B.) The forum becomes increasingly popular and needs organization (like the hd2 forum).
You would think a simple forum title could be updated upon request though..

admins sound a bit narrow minded. shame. their loss. all those new evo view devices in the wild and not much coming up on the xda side to bring them here and contribute to the community.

Yeah, I just got a View, and I'm pretty disappointed to see the lack of support for it. What happened? Was this tablet just not popular?
Just got my view a few minutes ago. I think lots were sold in the last week because of the promotional sales. Let's get some dev support. I'm definitely willing to throw in some money

Just saw this thread in View development so far. It's a little tough to go digging around old posts because of searching the name, too common. Not sure if that dev intends to return, but he was last interested in porting honeycomb to our View.

ICS has not been officially released, but please read this topic
1. Yes, ICS was announced for Evo 3D GSM and Evo 3D CDMA.
2. No, it was not released yet.
3. Stop asking HTC when they release it. Nobody knows.
4. Stop blaming HTC, Sprint and any other provider. It's not their fault. They have a lot of phones. Everybody wants ICS. It's called project management. Everything is set according to a project timeline.
5. Meanwhile, you can try some ICS here:

Again: stop posting your emails from HTC. We know that ICS will come. Nobody knows when it will come.
Romania??? Your English is better than most Americans who post on here. LOL! Good job on the thread. I've resigned myself to the same fact...it'll drop when it drops and no amount of emails or posts are going to change a thing. They know we're waiting. Hell, the Galaxy Nexus has been advertised for months on Sprint's website and still hasn't dropped. It is what it is...
OP Your a Douche bag!
The reason for delay is a complete marketing strategy. they want you to pay attention to their HTC One. (Do the math: more sale for htc and more contracts for sprint).
Persoanlly I am not going to upgrade to the HTC One, if they drop ICS for the Evo3D. It is not that a big move from Evo 3D to One.

While opening this thread I was just wondering if it is just another troll thread or if someone is trying to gain some thanks by stating the obvious.
Well I guess it is the latter...
Everyone is looking forward to getting an ics update. Some sit tightly... waiting, enjoying the cream of GB roms; some start unuseful threads like this here...
Only reason for me to write this post is obviously to gain some thanks from the opposite camp and to say my part about this ics-hype-mess that keeps piling on theese days at ridiculous rate . Again..one way or another, imho this thread is same junk as any other "Ics will come in shortly!!!" thread. Howg

@ADJackson171: thank you. everybody believe that we, the romanians, are stupid, gipsy, thieves. Well, not quite...but i don't want to start a long discussion.
@alammori: marketing strategy is a part of the project management phase.
@Jenich: i don't want to be a troll and i don't need any "Thanks". As a webdeveloper, i know that every post is at least one entry in the database. With every opened thread xda needs more money for the server maintenance. And aren't you tired of those threads?

With respect, you could make that video in 'almost' ANY country. It's easier in America as there are a LOT more people to pick from. And let's not forget that America came from pretty much every country anyway.
Now, back on topic, I agree with the OP. I also notice a lot of the slagging off is coming from really low posters, likely with nothing much to contribute, but lots to take. Think before you post if you want to be part of the community. If you are actively abusive, the community breaks down, and you have LESS to gain. Be polite, and contribute.... you will have MORE to gain.
This threads needs to be stickied... and all the posts below the OP's deleted.
Lastly.. seriously.. did anyone come into this thread actually thinking ICS was released?
Way to get my hopes up OP!

In fact, I'm about to post one right now!

Perhaps it would help to get a dedicated ICS info thread like in the O2X section?

Don't forget that apple's products states "designed in California" when actually their engineering HQ is in Nevada. That slimeball move was to avoid California state taxes. They also outsource all their work to foreign countries and pay them in slave wages just like Nike, robbing real Americans job opportunities.

One thing that helped last time maintaining composure these people will piss you off some so much because they really will not give a crap stay focused on one thing writing what you say don't send repetitive things spam etc on fb although the spamming did take over htcs page lol
But we need to get everyday users to join in that means educating them to what we know .
Eg on htc fb yesterday people still asking when the evolte will drop they had no idea so getting a large following helps ..
Edit : it took 11 days start to finish to get htc to change its policy and 5 months to implementation of unlocking luckily its not that difficult in this case .

India is one of the largest android market in the world yet it has been overlooked number of times by Google.
Currently 32 countries are in the list from where developers can sell paid apps and to everyone's surprise India is yet to make through.
It is because of this that developers turn towards other platform and android market misses on new and innovative apps that would have been published by such developers. Even free/trial version of such app doesn't gets developed coz many developers consider not to materialize the idea coz of lack of incentive for their hard work..
To raise a voice for the same I had put forward a petition which can be found over here
www.groubal.com/paid-android-apps-for-indian-developers/
Guys we need support in numbers. So do sign up the petition and help to spread word abt same among family and friends coz it is with your support that this petition can bring in a positive change..
Note :- petition is targeted towards Indian developers because India is one of the largest android market and still it is not in the list among 32 countries..
This is something I'm totally down with.

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but an petition to Google wont help this cause. If there is anyone you should take it up with, its the Government. The Tax department has some real outdated laws and method to keep track of in flow of money from foreign countries so that you can be taxed for it. There is all sort of issues like knowing the source, collecting PAN card details and KYC forms, lot of other work. Which is very tedious and lot of additional work in comparison to the other countries. There was a similar issue with Paypal. Paypal took couple of years but now they have finally set up a sort of system to do all this. Google wallet is comparatively new and would take time to set up a system to be in accord with the local norms. So not exactly an issue of Google ignoring Indian developers but more of an issue of local government policies.

even if it is an issue with the government but still I m pretty sure that government wont change its laws for a single company, it is the company which has to cope up with norms and make the large android customer base happy. It has been over two years I guess and still google can't make it work. Talking abt pan no., well who doesn't have one.. not an issue... and abt taxation, well dtaa will definitely help and even if India do not have dtaa with USA then its simple as that the residual income (after googles 30% cut) will be taxed in India in the hands of developer

While spending time in Taiwan I thought I would try to reach out to HTC and see if could be put in touch with someone at the company. I figured that while I was in the country it would be worth to shot to see if I could contact someone sympathetic to the ROM development (or even the Jetstream) cause.
I felt that as someone who has (an albeit tiny) body of HTC device development work that I might merit a vaguely personalized form letter that politely amounted to go away! I certainly didn't have any illusions of grandeur nor am I naive to the fact that companies regularly want to distance themselves from perceived failure.
It began with a tweet directed at HTCDev requesting a tour.

I didn't receive the courtesy of a reply, but you can be the judge of whether that was merited.
Next I contacted HTCDev via their HTML contact form. You know those forms that you fill out only half expecting the contents to actually be delivered? I received the following automated reply a little later.
Code:

I had hoped for some resemblance of a human reply, but I am left disappointed. I am happy that I tried.
So there you have it. I'm sure other better people than I have tried more earnestly to contact HTC, but I thought I would share my lone attempt. The most disappointing thing about it all is that it is not very surprising.
when the jetstream was new and the disappointment fresh, i tried getting their attention through their facebook page and emails. they blamed at&t for the lack of development and ignored the device from that point forward. its nice of you to try.
on the some-what good news, last i asked show_p what's shaking (2 weeks ago) and he said he's got something planned to fix the crashing, and he should get to it in two weeks. (that means this week) i don't wanna bother him just yet, but maybe he'll get the job done.

He is a persistent and hard working guy. He'll probably get it someday.

Cosidering this is how HTC does updates, they have no right to blame AT&T.....

To all whom are interested, (minor gossip, insider story), no I'm not HTC employee nor contractor. ok ok may be a next next next door neighbor, which I purposes walk across to look at their pretty receptionist (I'm just joking too).
Anyway, I am in China, HK, TW, consumer grade manufacturing industries, hence would like to share these two possibilities.
1) I suspect this tablet was an AT&T initiative from the very beginning, An AT&T owned project, then open tender to couple of designers and manufacturers, notably HTC, Asus, etc and HTC won the job. All development costs will be billed $$$$, man hours, prototypes, tooling, ALT, MoQ, etc. Under such conditions AT&T would be hard pressed on costs for a rom upgrade, because many man hours not only on developments but testings thousands of accumulated functions and features.
2) But there's also a possibly of 2nd scenario, which is HTC self designed and build the Jetstream and knocked on many Telco's door to sell it.
Under my observation of North America availability only, no where else in the world, it's more likely a AT&T initiated project. So, no money no upgrade.
Come to think of it, it has 4G, first amongst tablet? It must be an AT&T initiative.
End.
