anyone else find the kickstand a little tough to prop up? the OG Evo was very easy but since this ones spring loaded and the slit is so narrow i can barely get it out. before i would just push down on the opposite end of the kickstand and it would jump out but, again, the spring loaded kick makes that obselete. anyone have any mechanical tips? lol sad, i know. but the question still stands

Grow out one of your nails??? Mine are pretty short, but I can easily wedge one under the very tip and pop it out. I like the way it feels....the OG got pretty loose after what seems like a short period of time.
I noticed the same thing, also almost feels like I'm going to scratch it.

I thought maybe putting a piece of tape or cloth under the kickstand sticking out to grab would help...

You mad bro?
I never said i cant and dont still flip it out. The thing about making a thread in a Q&A forum is that it might be useful to other people for answers. The kickstand is noticeably thinner and more difficult to flip out than the OG, so I made this thread in case there were some people who felt it was too, not to whine about my problems (which isnt even a problem)

yeah i noticed its more difficult to flip out.
It is definitely not as easy to engage as the original. Luckily I have some fingernails which works great. I guess you could use a little bit of scotch tape to wrap around it and make a small tab to pull it out. Not too pretty but would definitely work!
I'd much prefer it be a little to difficult than be a little to easy to open. Could really get in the way if that happens.
I like the kickstand how it is. It gives me another use for the pinky nail I use to snort coke. #winning

So I've noticed that with the edges of the defender case being raised as they are, they can inhibit your swyping ability if you've got big fingers and are trying to use a word that has the letter P in it. almost impossible to get it to register without mashing your finger against the edge of the case
edit: my bad, shoulda put this in accessories!
Yea it does. For me the 1 is a bigger pain, gotta "shave" some off I think

Maybe try a different keyboard app? Also, voice to text works really well with this phone. Dont know why more people dont use it.
I had the problem with the keyboard and search icon in the market. I just use Shapewriter and the hard search key.

I noticed this too, it gets pretty annoying
This is what I did with a dermal tool to make my Otterbox Defender easier to use when I'm swyping. The edges where the keyboard is located was "sanded" down so swyping has been a lot easier for me since the mod to the holster. I also dremaled out a hole so I can access the volume rocker without having to remove the phone from the holster. And I thought the tab to remove the phone from the holster was protruding too much so I also dremaled it down. Now it's slightly harder to remove the phone from the holster, but I don't intend to remove the phone from the holster very often.

I too don't like how extra bulky the defender series is for a regular user like myself. I can see its perks for construction workers or something, but for me, the commuter series was plenty perfect for my new baby

I saw on a video that somebody could easily tear that kevlar piece out from right under the camera... It looks loose and flimsy, and not well stuck on the back of the phone.
Can anyone confirm this by sticking your nail under the weave right under the camera ? Last thing I want is to buy a phone for 600 bucks and have the back tear up on me after a month.

In day to day use this is not going to effect the device in any way.

It's not the kevlar back but the plastic covering on the top (camera/flash/speaker) which can be taken off, possibly revealing some screws. Other than that there seems to be no way to open the device.

This request/observation is just hilarious.
Why not take ANY phone and try to jam an ice pick between the edge of the glass and the phone. Hit it with a hammer.... does anything happen?
Or drop any phone from a really tall building, cause I'd hate to spend $600 on a phone and not have it survive something like.
Maybe put any phone in a blender, cause I'd hate to spend $600 on a phone and not have it blend properly.

Nope, it isn't.
If I get a device and the plastic that covers the screws gets detached easily it's a build flaw. If the Kevlar thing gets detached it's a design flaw. If you drop your phone from a tall building or hit it with an hammer it's a flaw of your brain.
It's different.
I wouldn't pick at my RAZR like that anyways.

I agree. The guy in the vid didn't use force. Come to think of it the OP didn't really meant to use force and try to open the back cover.
The cover we know is kevlar and durable. The material witch glues it on the phone how durable is it?
Tbh im in love with the back cover of the phone. I'd never put a cover/case on it. I wouldn't want to put one out of need( safe sex suxx )
Obviously, DrUnKenSTeiN is probably the only intelligent human on this post.
Where did anyone here read that I want you to remove the cover or bash it with a hammer ?
All I asked was to see if that thing is flimsy and all I got was raw violence by some members who probably have Attention deficit disorder (syntrix, ianford)
When I asked once if a certain laptop was flimsy, one intelligent human pressed on the lid lightly, checked for keyboard flex, and gave me his opinion.
You may say it's not important for daily use, but so does Android OS or a large screen. A smartphone can be productive without them, but this is not what discussion boards are about.
You may be excused to feel embarrassed, thanks.

Would just like to confirm that the phone in the video DOES have a defect. With all the force in the world I couldn't even get my fingernail under the Kevlar, let alone pry it up. He did it with no effort, like it was hanging off. Mine is sealed so tight (top, bottom and along the sides) you couldn't do anything to it if you tried.

And the 18th post is the winner (crowd cheers and applause)!
If your phone is sealed then its not something that all razrs got. Seems like a flaw in the specific device.
Its important for guys that have bought the phone and its defective that they wont think that ,this is how the phone is.

I messed around with 4 RAZR's today at three different stores. I even took out a penny that was scarred and I was not able to even scuff the Kevlar. It's on there on all the edges and sides REALLY REALLY good. And, that Kevlar is REALLY durable.
The one in the VIDEO MUST BE DEFECT.

Which otter box are you using? just outta curiousity....
I had the commuter series.. Until one day my phone fell out of my pocket while I was biking, hit the ground and because the silicon was so stretched out from me simply pressing the power button my phone bounced face down on one end then the other and I ended up with some pretty nice scrapes on the body of my device. I was so mad! Needless to say I don't use the otterbox anymore and have switched to the Trident Aegis and love it. I'll never use an otterbox again!
I think I read somewhere that initial commuter cases had design flaws with the silicon and that it had been corrected but whatever... Trident is awesome.

Yep planning on doing whole rear of phone when I get around do it. Top cover, middle, and bottom. Totally uniform look with the gripyness it provides
Plus if you add a little fine sand to it, it'll make it that much better to hold. I thought up of all kinds of idears when I read that on the tips section on the can.

Update on my plasti-dip work I did on my phone:
I'm actually quite experienced with using plasti-dip for many applications on many surfaces.
I dismantled my phone and cleaned everything with alcohol and wiped it down and then applied Plasti-dip.
It looked and felt great for a few days.
Then the corners started to peal up. Once that begins, it's done for.
It seems the constant friction to the edges of the applied areas with your dirty/oily fingers will break it down quick enough to not make Plasti-Dip worth doing.
It was worth a shot.

I don't see how the plastidip is peeling off so quickly for people... I've seen people plastidip entire cars and have it last longer than a week. You might want to try to tape off all the tabs and spray a little under to seal the edge.
Just getting a feel for who would be interested in a case like this for our beloved eVo's? I'm currently in the design stages yet but open to suggestions on changes! Let me know what you guys think! Custom engraving on the back will be available in time....also color options are also still up in the air.
will most definitely take one if you get them produced. are you milling them out on a cnc?
Black and Im in.
Yes they will be machined on a cnc and will be produced by myself.
SteelH,
I'm a fan of black so most likely I will probably do the first run in black.
also here are pics of it in black.
Awesome, unique design man.
My only thing is, if it is dropped it appears the only contact the case has on the outer rim of the phone are the posts in each corner...
Would dropping on a corner or edge focus too much force through that small area and cause screen cracks, cosmetic damage to the phone itself?
Just an observation I had. Hope it helps!
I plan to use rubber corner posts to help prevent some damage to the phone hopefully!
I would probably get one. Any ideas on cost?
Those are pretty sweet.
Either black or a brushed aluminum and i'm totally in.
I haven't figured up a price yet....still need to get some quotes for anodizing.
Some kind of card slot for credit cards pin the back would be amazing! I'm really interested in this, you've got sat least one buyer
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
if the price is right them im definitely in. curious, will it be straight aluminum or will the outside be a soft rubber almost like the back of the original evo? if not then i could always coat it in some platidip (basically liquid rubber spray paint) looks very nice on everything haha and it peels off.
curious tho, where did you get the dimensions from? did you measure them or is there a 3d cad model floating around of the evo it self. im currently in a cad class and would love to see what things i could stir up based off of a model wouldn't produce anything tho since the only way we have is a 3d printer that uses a brittle plastic
I second the suggestion to add card slots! maybe 2 or 3? I would DEFINITELY buy one if there were card slots. I have been searching for a case for our EVOLTE that has this feature.

I got the dimensions of my eVo just measured it up with my caliper!
As for the coating I have thought about getting some sort of liquid rubber to dip them in but would like to know what others think of this?
Also as for card slots I will try to come up with something after this work week as I will be on the road all week for work.
Keep the suggestions coming!!
Also just was thinking about the card slots......to do a card slot you would have to sacrifce the kickstand....If you guys are fine with that then I will put the time into designing one with a slot in it.
The other option would be to put a external kickstand on it but would require more designing and more money to build it.
Just some options to think about!
Won't this block the antennae? Cell reception is already weak enough on ltevo. I would think the entire plastic cover area would need to be either exposed or only covered with plastic or wood or glass.

i thought the radios were kinda attached in a way to the body and used the aluminum to get the reception, if im right (which i may not be) then this might actually help? or it may not. idk
Put me down as a maybe. Depending on price and how they look in real life. I like the model though.
