[Q]Gingerbread to ics - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently using neutrino ROM, 2.3.7 based and I was thinking about going to a ics based ROM, probably atrix aokp #37. I was wondering about what could change in the ROM flashing though. Could someone tell me what are the changes?

All of the ICS Roms are in their Beta lifespans. You may find like me that the generic Kernel/Radio are not cutting it. I was averaging 5-8 hours maximum battery life while running any of them.

mrinehart93 version of CM7, a few questions (nooby)

Hey im considering flashing this as my first rom, but cant seem to find too definitely what does/doesn't work on this particular rom. Other than the list on the main post in dev section but i mean like bug wise is there anything major that has issues or isn't working at this moment? Other than the force close dialer(can you still make/receive calls??) is there any other things i should know before i flash this? Im currently stock rom/kernel just rooted. Just dont want to spend all the time flashing it and unlocking my bootloader to find out that the rom has serious issues that makes it unuseable for me. Im not too sure how you guys are about noobs/stupid questions posting in the dev section, so i just assumed that this is better suited for the Q&A. And correct me if im wrong, as im not quite positive, but i should be able to flash the cm7 rom and then the 1.3 OC kernel as well and have them both running? Is there one i need to flash before the other or how does that work?
This wouldnt be the rom to flash as it is still in alpha so it wont connect to any towers has bad battery life no dialer period. I would suggest flashing Jokers skinny rom for now its the most up to date and is running smooth for me

you can try alien rom .I had it running smoothly until i bricked my photon
I'm considering the homebase or alien, but they aren't running the latest OTA. What is the difference that the latest OTA did? i see no difference running stock rom.. And can anyone vouch to how the battery life is on roms as opposed to stock? Specifically one of the photon ones. Thanks for responses guys
The latest ota has many bug fixes and moto changed alot of their blur apps, which have made the phone faster. Homebase and alien are great but not up to date. I have a non stock rom called skinny which is made from the latest. In the end its up to you. My suggestion is to flash all three with no less than 24 hours on each to get a feel for it. Please keep in mind you wont be able to judge battery life this way

Go with Joker, that's just my two cents. Battery life is slight better from Joker to Home Base. Alien was okay, but Home Base had more tweaks then Alien. Then Joker has more stuff and is on the latest OTA from sprint, so that's what I'd personally suggest, plus it's the one I'm running.
I'm enjoying Joker's skinny Rom...it's current, and fast.

Also cybik version of cm7 running very well. Fast and great battery

What other 2.2 ROMs are there that have good battery life?

Currently using Deranged9 but everything keeps freezing. With all the talk about ICS, I feel like 2.2 ROMs are going away.
Bionix has been tried and tested. I got great battery life too.
And its not surprising few 2.2 roms firmware almost 2 years old now.
So 2.2 gonna be outdated. Though I saw in forums someone did redux of bionic though.

Ive been seeing ICS and 4.0 roms, but im not sure how to use them or if it is any different to flash them. I thought they were similar to Cyanogen rom which had issues going back to earlier roms. Anyone know how the battery life is on ICS?

Most stable rom?

Hi all,
My cousins atrix has started playing up (keyboard crashes, browser force closes etc) and ive advised that he change roms. Ive been looking though this forum for the past hour or so and am surprised to see so many roms - you guys have so much choice! (Ive got an optimus black and weve got maybe about 4 roms which is nothing compared to you guys!)
Anyway my cousin is a bit of a noob so I dont want to install a rom that will cause problems. Which rom should I install on his atrix please?
Thanks
The most recent releases of CM7, including CM7.2 RC1 and the most current nightly releases, have been pretty stable for me. I couldn't tell you about the non-CM7 ROMs (i.e. the ones based on the stock Atrix ROM) as I haven't used one for quite a while. There are several so-called CM9 ROMs out (based on ICS), but IMHO they aren't stable enough if you rely heavily on your phone, though they are getting there.

Im using joker's cm9. Its actually stable enough to be used as a daily driver. Yes the rom is in beta so there are bugs like video recording/playback, multitouch and small probs here and there due to missing ics drivers.

Wouldn't really consider that stable. Stable to me means everything works. Nottachtrix for stock look, and CM7 for AOSP

Lol technically your right stable means very minor bugs…i just meant that it won't mess up your phone or anything.

I agree - If your cousin doesn't need the fingerprint reader or webtop go with CM7 for now till the devs get the issues worked out on CM9.
Another vote for CM7. Its absolutely rock solid, and the weekly builds have fingerprint scanner support. CM9 is pretty good, but as has been mentioned its missing a few features and does have a few bugs that prevent some from being able to use it as a daily driver.
CM7 RC1 is where it's at now, no issues whatsoever for me.
Anyone know what is the progress of webtop on CM7 or 9?
Instead of CM7, I'd reccomend Neutrino. Install GO Launcher EX, ICS theme for the launcher and system and you've got yourself the best GB ROM with ICS-look.

Yes because I feel that Nuetrino is so stripped down, you have problems. You have to flash add ins

Useless things such as TTS, VPN and Languages have been removed to make the ROM smaller. You just gotta flash a few more tiny .zip's...
Neutrino is better than CM7 at the base level. I reccomend you flash Neutrino GT+ version and under/overclock the CPU according to your needs.

+1 ╰☆╮Neutrino ROM V2.6╰☆╮ ....it is the best for battery and performance in my view....if you need the blur (webtop)... all three of Nottach roms are great although he supports only NottachTrix4G....
+1 for CM7.
I'd recommend you CM7 with faux kernel.

I found myself flashing around 20 add-ons to get the phone to work properly.
For a first time custom rom flash I'd go with Nottachtrix, very stable and Aroma Installer makes it very easy to customize to your liking.

I reckon, CM7 is nice. Just use Faux kernel.

I used stock 2.3.4 and CM7 - got no stability issues whatsoever.

+1 for Neutrino and +1 for flashing 20 times a day to get myself to like the phone
I flash ROMs like crazy and I have to say Neutrino is by far the greatest rom! So what if you have to flash a few zips....thats how he made such an amazing rom...He stripped it down to the basics and you add the stuff that you want. I use the GT version but underclock to 1.00GHz most of the time...Saves battery but if I need the power, its available to me. 2.7 is out now....it has a wifi bug on the GT and GT+ versions though. You have to reflash faux's kernal to fix. Otherwise just use EE version. Its plenty fast enough without overclock.

Favorite ICS ROM

What is your favorite ICS ROM? Wondering which one is the best/has the fewest bugs and issues. Thanks everyone in advance

jokers build
its stable
every ICS rom got the same bugs due to the lack of proper drivers
That's interesting, so any differences will be in features?

Another vote for Jokersax's.
You would be able to try out several of them fairly easily with Kitchen Sink:

Why do we get similar threads like this every week about which ICS Rom is best? Haven't there been enough already?
My vote goes for MIUI. Pretty dam fast and stable, plus the look is awesome.

I agree. I'm using MIUI V 2.4.27 which is based on Jokersax 0.5 CM9 build.
It is amazing. It turned my unbelievably unbearable Telstra Atrix on 2.3.4 to a device that is smoother than any other android I've used...
I'm running mine with the Atrix-CM9-Kernel-025b-ext4-1.45GHz and its stable at 1.45GHz all day every day with excellent battery life.
It's funny I get 2x the battery life on the MIUI Rooted ROM with custom kernel than I did on the Telstra 2.3.4 stock ROM.

[Q] Which rom for best battery life and stability?

Hey guys I just purchased this one for my mother who is new to smart phones. I want to ask which rom is best for battery life and is stable? I searched on this forum and people were saying ICS Passion but that was a year or two ago and I saw that it is no longer supported. It was be awesome if you guys could recommend me a rom since my mom isn't much of a flash-a-holic so I don't want to flash each and every rom to test it for a day or two.
Thanks for the help.
*As compared to stock.
Since she's new to smartphones, I'd suggest a Froyo ROM. They have great battery life and simple to use interface. I can't say specifically which Froyo is better because I have JB. (Which I don't recommend for newbies.)
Well unfortunately the problem is almost every ROM is no longer coming out with new builds because they have moved on to new things. This means that they are all working on 4.2.1. Yet cm10 and hellybean are both very stable 4.1 ROMs. This is what I am running at the moment
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
I have a hard time believing someone actually recommended Passion.
I would go with either bionix (froyo) cm7 stable build or cm10. Don't flash a ICS ROM, you run the risk of EU bug.

Which is kind of a shame because ICS zen was of the best ROMs I've ever used... Agreed to the rest
Amen, ICZen is/was the bah-bah-zee!
