How long Galaxy S2 can survive with intense gaming?
15 seconds, give or take.
...
Just kidding... I haven't done very scientific test but on cognition 1.04 I can probably play plants vs zombies for 45 minutes straight on a full charge.
Your mileage may vary. Seems some people have far worse battery life than others, depending on ROM used, other apps, if radio is on/off, etc.
Managed to drain battery from 100 % to 0 playing Dungeon Hunter for 2 hours straight.
Currently owning Incredible S (recently upgraded to Gingerbread), is it really worth buying SGSII or Sensation instead of keeping incredible S?
P.S. have to pay extra 75-100 GBP to get one of those if I return my Incredible S
There seems to be something wrong with plants vs zombies. If you under clock the CPU and gpu you can actually last pretty long playing.

Underclocking is where you set the cpus frequency to lower than it normally is (so, from 1.2ghz to 900mhz)

hehe theres a famous quote that you come across every so often around here...
"If your concerned about voiding the warranty then your in the wrong place"
That said....
If anything is gonna drain your battery quick then it is games.
I could get aprox 2 hours playing something fairly intensive like GOF2 or Eternal Legacy... lowering brightness, underclocking further, turning off all connections etc etc may well increase this though...

I'm new to overclocking HTC and or rooting it :/
I was thinking to buy possibly a 3D optimus from LG or evo 3d (not sure when it comes to UK), are they gona be rootable from release date or must wait until some devs (hackers) breaks their security?
Sorry for my broken english,
OK,now I am facing a huge problem..I can't run any game on my x10,
When i run a game, at start it will run normally, after loading or few seconds then it will crash and causing a boot..i tested on every game eg gameloft, fruit ninja, angry bird except sudoku(maybe it didnt give the gpu too much stress),before it boot the notification light will become purple in colour .. I m on wb tw rom v4.04 custom and doom's kernel v04a and oc to 1267mhz ..I think my gpu is spoilt because I used to reinstall the rom and wipe everythingbut no use..
Anyone can help me and I will very appreciate ..thx

You might want to start there...
It is not adviced to overclock for prolonged period of time.
Set the max frequency back to 998 and see what happens.

That's why they say "don't use for long" and not, for example, "don't use for 3 days"!
There will be a point when your chipset will no longer be able to handle it,
and that point is unique to every phone/user, so better lower or eliminate the overclock altogether.
Dun clock to max, just a slight clock would be good like 10360,or just set to normal clock first

If I were you, I wouldn't overclock at all, because reboots are an indication
that your chipset cannot tolerate higher frequencies and chipset death
can have you run to a service center for a new motherboard...
These older chipsets can't overclock like newer ones either, the tolerances are a lot lower.
You're going to fry your chip dude!
I wouldn't recommend going over 1167 personally...
Even that not for more than a short period.. Unless you don't mind risking your phone dying.
SE phones tend to run hot anyway, you are really straining it for sure.

Does X10i have a temp sensor in SoC ? I thought only sensor was in Battery! So it's not SoC thats getting hot (sure, that one also...) it's the Battery. Maybe SE choose the cheaper option, which get's hotter.

I have a battery temperature widget on my homescreens
(from Minimalistic Text app)
and sometimes I notice temperatures as high as 45 Celcius,
but then again, this time of year the weather is at 35-40 Celcius in my country.
The highest I've seen is 54 while I was charging, connected to 3G and
having a half-hour phone call.
Battery does get hot easily, but I am not sure what's the deal with
the motherboard because I haven't had any random reboots for the past few months.

Ok so im rooted and overclocked and was using setcpu then decided i wanna try something different so i tried system tuner! When i checked the cpu it said that one of the processors are off line! Then i pressed the info button and sure enough it says only reading one! So i went through the settings and found force both cores online!
Since then i have no lag and virtually no checkerboarding on the web! Anyway i was just wondering if im the only one who noticed this and maybe it could help those who say that they are still getting lag on they're roms using dag's kernel!
Also i hope devs will notice this thread since i can't post there yet and take advantage of this how ever they can!
Now don't quote me on this but most likely the second core only turns on for processor intensive activities such as high graphics games or multiple programs running at once. I do find it hard to believe that it would be totally disabled. Most likely this is done to conserve battery.

Okay if this really is the case I could also see at&t disabling the second core totally to save battery because of lte but i guess it will take a dev that has more experience with how qualcomm's multicore cpus work in android. report back with differences in battery life like how much faster does it drain now that both cores are forced on.
if you want both cores on click on boot settings and enable force all cpus online. that heats up your phone and eats more battery though+I do not see any benefits doing that.

Tomorrow ill post some pics of battery life usage!
And my phone doesn't get any hotter than normal not even while using my navi! Mostly it just gives no lag and better rendering in the browser/maps/etc!!

Same, but having a better processor helps. Like exynos. I bet once we update to ics if it ever happens, the differences will be only minor between processors, as it runs so nice.

Not entirely true.. the Galaxy Nexus has a kernel governor that turns one core off when the SCREEN IS OFF, but not when the phone is being used. Multiple kernel creators have since implemented this into their kernels. It is called "hot plugging" and it just turns CPU 1 offline when the screen is off and turns it back on when the screen is on

Just checked mine, rooted and OC with DaG's 0.1 version (first version). When I looked, it said the second CPU was offline. Changed it to online, we'll see how that impacts battery life.
How much of an advantage is smartassv2 anyway?
I just tried this with system tuner and both cpus were working but wone was of and on and zero was always on.
I am running stock rooted. If you just sit yhere and watch it you will see tje sevond core fires and shuts down alot.

Same for me (CPU 0 on, CPU1 off, most times) and I'll say I have noticed no real changes in functionality (speed, rendering, etc) or battery life...
I guess jury is still out or is this a YMMV kind of thing?

Mine said it was offline as well. Forced it on and am not noticing any difference in speed or temp.

I don't know why everyone is in such a rush to force the second core online, it turns on and off when it needs to.
Guys i've been wanting to buy HOX+ .. but i heard a lot of talk about the device overheating and also lagging cuz of the lack of RAM !!
plz i'm really confused here .. i like the stock sense interface a lot .. i got used to it and have been using it since i bought my HTC Incredible S even after trying a lot of different ROMS i came back to stock ...
I need HONEST opinions plz ... i'm a student and so far getting money is really hard for me ... i don't wanna buy something that i might regret buying later, or having to stick with it while i'm not satisfied... my questions are :
1. Does the HOX+ feel laggy when using the stock sense ?
2. What's with the overheating problem ? usually they say that it starts overheating and reaching temps of 55 and highier sometimes when gaming .. is that true ?!
3. Does it really lack RAM ? or is it the sense consuming a lot which makes it lag ? and will the sense 5 be lighter on the device than sense 4+ ?
4. and ofc .. should i buy or not ?
To anyone who will answer .. your help is much appreciated !! thanx a bunch in advance !!
Happy one x+ owner since february (would have bought the One but that 32gb think is definitely a no go, and i never bought anything but htc since 2007, but had the opportunity to play around with loads of gs2 and 3s...)
Enough with the intro, in everyday use its perfect, 1gig of ram is plenty for normal use, itll always sit between 680 and 870 with the stock rom. If you use it heavily, youll get no more lag than with any other android phone with 1gig of ram (example, try and launch skype, youtube, real racing, a heavy webpage and switch between them a lot and real quick with a gs3, same result.. worst case scenario, the phone will not respond for 20secs max and happens to me 1-2times/month tops).
Heats a lot, theres no denying that, while on heavy games (again, real racing, shadowgun, nfs, asphalt and drains battery pretty quick with those apps).
On a gps app (tomtom, navigon,...) It also heats a lot but then, the problem is that it also will stop charging (ex, with a car kit-charger) because of high voltage and will wait until its cooled down to go further with charging.
It feels just a tiny bit less snappier than a gs3 but nothing really noticeable.
Again, 64gb it something to own, all my music (10gigs) my game roms (15 gigs) and my apps and games (25gigs) still allow me some room to take loads pf pics and shoot videos.
Im on stock 4.1.2, still havent felt the need to flash anything on it and reports say that ot feels even snappier with sense 5, which appearently will use 100mb of ram less, says another xda fellow on the update post.
I have a german phone in belgium (same region) so i can update as soon as i get my update.
One tip though, since we cant remove the battery, i have planned on killing it to send it sometime close the the end of my warranty period for htc to replace it.
Last think i really appreciate, is that the case of this phone os made of rubber, which makes it very resistant to dropping and shocks (already fell 5times on concrete and the screen is intact - lucky me maybe?)
Sorry for the long post, i hope i could help bring the light on your interrogations.
Got mine brand new on ebay for 440€ btw.

Not during normal use. The only time I've seen it lag is when an app is misbehaving, which doesn't happen often
2. What's with the overheating problem ? usually they say that it starts overheating and reaching temps of 55 and highier sometimes when gaming .. is that true ?!
It does get pretty toasty. I hit the thermal cut-off (where the phone turns off on its own) once. If you see the green/red light flashing, stop doing what it is that you're doing and let it cool down.
OR you can download SU Root Tools from the market (it's free) and set a CPU temp status in the notification bar so you know what it's at. You can also have it sound an alarm when it goes above a certain temp. (It repeats "CPU temperature hot" over and over till it goes below the threshold you set)
3. Does it really lack RAM ? or is it the sense consuming a lot which makes it lag ? and will the sense 5 be lighter on the device than sense 4+ ?
Not in my opinion.

No problem. Not sure when the flashing warning lights come on, but I have the cpu temp in the notification bar like I said and the alarm set to 60. Anything over that, IMO, is too much.
And honestly, you'll feel it. You can feel it on the back and on the screen itself (at the top half).
Wahhh 60 ? The highest battery temp i hv got so far is 45.
I seldom play heavy games and i use my hox+ for whatsapping and chatting, listening to music and some internet browsing only, may sometimes play casual games, so the phone is really snappy on me.
In my opinion it really depends on ur usage, if u take photos/listen to music a lot HOX+ is definitely ur choice, but if u r going to flash ROMs/ doing a lot of multitasking maybe Nexus 4 suits u better
PS I'm on stock 4.1 rom, Sense 5 update hvnt reached my CID_622 yet

HTC One X+ is a great phone! Only if you want to play heavy demanding games, it maybe isn't the phone you're looking for. Don't get me wrong, performance of tegra 3 SoC is really good, but it is not the best for games anymore. But as far as i found our, the (most of times) small lags are related to GPU performance. And the "overheating problem" only occurs when playing really hardware demanding games.
But if gaming is only aminor matter to you, i think it is still a good choice! It has everything you need: more than enough cpu power for daily tasks, 64GB of memory and 1GB of ram, which is also enough for everything you could normally do.
And Thanks to the devs here there is still room for improvements, if you like to flash custom kernels and roms!
I use mine for gps a lot to track my runs with Endomondo and I've never had any heat from my HOX+, with some games yeah it gets hot but I'm in Vietnam so everything gets hot here anyway. Ive never had any freezes or shut downs due to heat. On average I get 2 days on the battery with light gaming, alot of sms, viber, Facebook and some browsing when I'm outside along with music. Overall I'm quite happy with this phone.

Actually heating has pretty much been fixed due to undervolting, cpu quiet governor an gpu decoupling, the gpu can run at full speed and the cpu can run at a lower frequency and voltage with more cores active. With sense 5, many of these tweaks aren`t even necessary as it uses a two stage ondemand which gives great idle and light usage batterylife and good performance when needed in games. Ram problems are also gone with sense 5, unreal engine 3 games used to reload the launcher in 4+ but in 5, even the animations remain smooth with the app in the background. The already great One X+ got even better with the sense 5 update.

i have my hox+ for 1yr and i haven't experience any problem it does get hot when the cpu is at full capacity but is not a problem for me i get 1 1/2 to 2 days of moderate use.this is my gps my router my laptop my media player and it have never let me down so this is a phone that you will not regret buying trust me on this one. my wife have the gs3 and my brother in law have the iphone 5 and my phone is kicking ass......
The device does not lack ram. End of the day it has double the min requirements to run windows 7.....
Also on overheating .... It's a myth... Yeah the device does get hot. But what do you expect? When you put a fairly powerful quad core soc in a device with no cooling and little ventilation. It's gunna get hot. But all the overheating hype is cause by people who don't actually know what safe temps are. They feel the outside of there case get hot and start to worry, but they don't get that the phone has to dissipate heat some how.....

The cpu will throttle down before reaching unhealthy temperatures (I don't know the exact value). The only critical problem is the battery, which shouldn't be exposed to too high temperatures over longer periods of time.

What the title said. Does anyone not have the issue where screen is draining the battery even when its off? Also I read a lot of people complaining about 4-6h SOT time, so much that I'm beginning to think that's a feature not a bug. But the idle screen usage thing is weird. If you don't have that issue could you post a screenshot of your screen usage? Everyone is showing at least 70% and that I assume is too high. On my current phone its nowhere near that much with max brightness and actually on. I currently own an LG Optimus L7II (P710) and it's near the end of its life span, so its time for a new phone. Yes RN2 screen is bigger but its not that bigger to cause such a huge drain.
I'm preparing to buy this phone (Prime version) and I've only found it in one shop in my country (where on their site says 2.0ghz 32gb internal memory version, but afaik if its 32gb its prime and should be 2.2ghz, so error I guess, I'll call them to confirm), so I'm trying to gather as much info about it and whats gonna be an issue with the phone. I'll be happy if it gets through the day with about 3h actual light gaming or chatting in viber. I occasionally only play PokemonGO when I go out for a walk or cycle for 2-3h, and some card games at home, nothing too heavy. Not that I'm able on my current phone anyway. lol
Also a side question if I may, whats the deal with the kernel? The source is needed to fix issues like the battery drain and make truly custom roms, right? Are they ever going to release the source code? I'm guessing the answer is maybe, we don't know yet. Just thought maybe someone has an insight to share about previous Xiaomi phones and kernels.
Xiaomi RN2 is the only phone out of 3 that have the things I want(Min => 2gb RAM, quad-core, 3000mAh removable battery, gyroscope, gps, sd-card slot, and under 250 euros), and the only one in my country barely available. So I'm freaking out a bit over this battery drain issue.
EDIT: Crap, the only shop I found it at, at reasonable price doesn't have it. Only Note 3s, and I don't want note 3 cause of built-in battery. Guess I'm stuck ordering online and paying 30% custom fee... So instead of 150$ it'll be 200$ and no warranty.
Anyone?
@ChrisBunny You wrote it little complicated Do you want to see this? My battery was not fully charged.

Thanks for the info. It looks like your screen is not using as much as people reporting it uses 60-70% of battery, if I'm reading it correctly, while yours is using only 16%. I'm gonna call the phone shop in a bit (waiting for them to have their morning coffee lol) and see if they still have the phone. Then I just hope mine doesn't drain too.
@ChrisBunny I forgot to say about Core clock. Your shop has wrong information about CPU frequency. Prime version has 2.2GHz (exactly 2.1x GHz) and non-prime version has clock 2GHz (exactly 1.95GHz)

Yeah that's what I figured. I found a couple ads for the phone, so I might still get it, it just won't have any warranty.
So your Xiaomi RN 2 screen uses only about 15% of the battery? That's really good if I understood correctly. How long does your battery last when you leave it alone and when you use it a lot?
@ChrisBunny
I'm fully charged now, later will post screenshot when i will get 5 or 10% on battery.

Thanks.
Are you happy with the phone? And do you by any chance play Pokemon GO with it? I'm curious how the game works on it and how long.

I'm happy with the phone. Speciffication for that cheap price is great. It has everything what i needed except Qualcomm processor (with Mediatek it's hard with sources so the phone can't get custom kernels, you know) Games works good. I have played pokemon for a short time- no problem with playing but nothing speciall for me so I uninstalled it.
GTA San Andreas - no fps drop
Shadow warrior - no fps drop
League of stickman - no fps drop
Gangstar Vegas - no fps drop
Dungeon hunter 5 - on some maps fps dropped but i think it's weak optimalization
Sim city - no fps drop
The sims free play - no fps drop
Thats the most (i think) advanced games i have played on my device. Don't remember more xD

Cool, 12h on idle if I'm reading it correctly, and only half the battery depleted.

No, 12% battery loss in 12 hours - mostly idle time, but with some slight use (email, text, etc). Wireless and Bluetooth left on (the battery was on about 63% when the phone was switched on).
BTW: I am running a "Skinnified" MIUI 7.5.10 ROM.

Ah that's even better! Whats your guess whats the reason a lot of people experience those crazy screen battery drains? I hope the reason is just some fluke with the rom, and not with hardware.

I think it would most likely be a software (ie, ROM) issue (ie, something is behaving badly in the background). Many of us spend a lot of energy trying to get better battery performance from the phone - but it is all really about how the software is configured. Without the sources to the kernel code, the best that can be done is tweaking bits here and there. This is what makes the Skinny ROM guidelines from @jajk very useful (to remove Xiaomi bloat and battery hogs). This requires some effort, patience, and nerves; but it can be quite rewarding. For me, I have been far more concerned with idle time than with "screen on" time, because my phone spends most of its time doing nothing.

MokeeOS compiled by vova.vafin. For me, his roms are better than for example Bulee. Device not overheat and have some power tweaks.
Okay, I gave you screenshots and now I can flash my lovely ResurrectionRemix
Thanks guys. After all I decided to get Redmi Note 3 Pro (the one with Snapdragon and 3gb RAM not Mediatek), there's plenty people and shops selling it. Now I'm just waiting on reply from the seller and he should send tuesday and it should arrive wednesday. Yeah it doesn't have removable battery, but from what I researched its an awesome phone and battery isn't an issue.

That's a great choice (the Snapdragon SOC).
Xiaomi+MTK=mega problems with custom ROM development
