[Q] How to change S2 mounting point? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how to change Galaxy S2 mount point to external SD?
i dont want to use the DirectoryBind..
cant it just adjust all default mounting point to external SD?

No you can't, unless you flash custom kernel like Neak. On stock kernel ROM, the internal memory is mounted as SDCard to make sure you always have your SDCard ready.

okay... first of all backup your sd card.. then go to recovery mode and go to advanced->partition sdcard->set the size of the partition that you like.In case that this fails connect the sdcard to ur pc with a sd card adaptor and format it
Its not that simple, the current custom rom doesn't support a2sd+ yet..... Formatting is not the problem

CWM Swapped Internal and External storage

CWM Swapped Internal and External storage. This happened right after I formated /system to flash a ROM. Any ideas why it did this and/or how to fix it?
Yes some clock work mod do that. Also cyanogen mod default is swaped.

[q] sdcard internal and external problem in cwm recovery..how to change name in/ mnt?

Hiya guys I have an issue which is causing problems in my phone.
Basically i think it all started since i formatted my emmc by accident two months after having my phone.
My issue is in recovery my phone see`s the internal memory as the external and vice versa, i have just noticed in file explorer that to see the internal memory it goes through the .mnt/sdcard is this right?
Yes, that is normal.
Hi, the ./mnt/sdcard is right, your phone is equipped with ginger or ics???
Ics the problem is that in cwm recovery my internal and external are the showing the wrong way round. External shows phones memory and internal shows the sdcard memory ??

There is no problem, it is normal. Move on, forget about it.
OK
One more thing before I make another thread and fill up this useful section. What causes the ums lunfile fault when trying to mount the SD card in cwm? I also encounter this fault in ics?
Sorry and thanks for the help

Internal SD card format

Go into settings. Scroll down to device/storage/usb storage/erase usb storage. Just copy and paste anything you want to keep to your 32gig external storage.

thanks for the quick reply.. i see inside my internal card a folder called apps if i erase that i would have to download the apps again? I guess that they will crash right?
I dont know if in the internal sd card there is like a system folder or something like it... so if i delete a folder my phone wouldnt crash?

If you have gone into settings/devices/storage/usb storage, and seen apps there, then more than likely you have made a backup using something like rom toolbox, TB, ultimate backup or mybackup.
If you browse to internal sdcard, you will see where your backup is kept. Copy this to your 32gig card along with photos etc.
You can then safely format it. Just copy the folders back once done.

I noticed in touch cwm there is a few things to format like:
format /system
format /data
format /cache
format /sd card
format /external_sd
format /data and media and /data/media (/sdcard)
can i format them all EXCEPT format /external_sd then flash Rom?, (because that's where the Death Star Rom will be to flash)

[Q] Mounting internal sdcard folder as usb mass storage

Is there any way I can mount a folder from the internal sdcard as USB mass storage?
( I am aware that I can mount an external sd but I don't happen to have one.)

Once I connect my phone it shows internal and external as two drives. You just can't mount e.g. the system folders if I am right.

No.
And here is why:
On the newer phones there is no seperate phone memory and internal SD, its just one big memory. The good thing about ir is, that you can install a lot more apps, because the whole memory is usable for the phone. The bad side is, that you can only access it through MTP.
In order to make it available as USB mass storage it needs to be unmounted, but this is not possible, because it is used by the phone. If you do it, the phone will crash. Its just like pulling a memory chip out of a running PC.
A filesystem can be mounted on different locations. If more than one location has write access, it will cause irreparable damage though.
The main problem here is that that the device uses the ext4 filesystem which Windows cannot process.
As a fix (sort of) you can
- swap internal and external storage.
- use a Smb over Wifi app and mount the share in Windows
- use a pseudo-filesysem such as sshfs from your computer

I dont think so and disagree with you... galaxy s i9000 and galaxy s2 i9100 also same. But they can mount internal and external as UMS or MTP.
Maybe the different in filesystem is the main cause.

On the S3, the whole internal memory is one big chunk (called /data). How would you go about mounting that as UMP when android is running? Android is using /data, therefore you can't unmount it and remount is as UMS.
If I'm wrong (which I may very well be), then post valid proof.

Understood.. thanks for the info.. just found it out...
So internal sdcard is a mount point of folder /data/media

HI there, by chance are you able to recover from the "internal memory" after a factory reset, on a galaxy s3.
I am not sure what the consensus was-
-i recently thought google had all my photos backed up and did a factory reset, and lost everything.
Am hoping if I keep the phone that I can find a way to recover the photos.
Thank you.

I just wanted to say thanks for posting that second link. I've been looking everywhere for a way to export the raw mount to recover files from internal /sdcard.
Oh and in response to the first thread, I believe the reason they were getting that error (the thread is locked unfortunately) is because they used -1 (the number one) rather than -l (the letter L). I made this mistake too.
Edit: Probably should have used the 'thanks' button, sorry. Can't delete post.
If you have a custom recovery installed boot into that and mount ums from there, as recovery doesn't depend on the data partition it can unmount and remount it
