[Q] How to make a ROM full wipe on flashing - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As title basically, I remember reading something about wipe roms having a extra 'data' file inside the archive which triggers it but cant find anything more on it. I wanna have an XEU LP7 ROM that wipes on flashing.

If your flashing the ROM via a CWM flashable .zip, the updater script will have the commands to format the various/required partitions.
You will need to add the extra lines and re-zip prior to flashing. If you're using Windows, you need to use NotePad++ to amend the script (not NotePad).

Wirh a manual full-wipe you have besser control.
1. factory reset
2. format /system
3. format /data
4. format /cache
5. wipe dalvik
6. wipe battery stats
7. format internal sd-card (not ever neccesary)
flash

format SD ex-SDcard >>>> everything in ex-sdcard gone ), you must copy rom again to intener store and flash ^^

You can also nuke it.

Then flash a matching Siyah kernel via Odin to see if it boots.
If it doesn't boot, try entering CWM recovery after flashing Siyah. Then do a full wipe.

[Solved] Suddenly Boot Loop on Chameleon 3.0 ROM

Hi,
Below is my phone detail:
I9100
ROM: Chameleon 3.0 beta
Kernel: Siyah v 6.0 beta 4
Today, i used MXPlayer app to watch a movie file (HD); exited to menu; and open MXPlayer again; and choose to resume from last position.
However, suddenly the phone was restarted and going into a boot loop.
I have tried to:
- wipe dalvik cache and wipe partition; unsuccessful
- take out battery, take out external SD card, put battery back and restart: unsuccessful
- flash Siyah v 6.0 beta 5: unsuccessful.
- tried flashing other kernels: philz, dorimanx: unsuccessful. In fact, when i checked the system menu, the kernel which i installed was not there.
- tried flashing back Siyah v 6.0 beta 4: able to be read as the Kernel in the system menu. However, when I press power button, there is no Restart to Recovery mode appears.
I really don't have any idea what is going on.
So, any help is appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Please make this clear - can u boot into your phone, or are u stuck in a bootloop?

Stuck in a boot loop.
I can boot only for a few seconds (less than 10 seconds); just enough time for me to check the system.
Additional note: I can still access CWM recovery (pressing power+menu+volume up).

Try re-flashing ur current ROM.
If that doesn't work, try a full wipe.

Tried to flash the same ROM without wiping data... Doesn't solve the issue.
So finally did a full wipe and flash Chameleon 3.0.1 with stock jeboo kernel.
Solved the problem.

[Q] P.A.C ROM 22.1 System UI always crash after fresh install

Hi all XDA developers, I am a current user of Paranoid Android 2.54 with a Hong Kong version GS2.
I tried to flash the new ROM P.A.C v. 22.1 with Gapps 20130301, but the system UI always crash just after the fresh install.
I have chosen 'restore my data from Google', is it related to the problem?
Thanks.
Probably not.
Have u tried to wipe cache, dalvik cache and fix permissions?
If that doesn't work, wipe data also.
Still doesn't work? Re-flash after full wipe.
Still crashing? First flash rom and let it boot. Check if problem persists. Then flash gapps and see if problem occurs.

I have followed the instruction by the ROM's thread, format system, wipe cache/dalvik cache, install ROM and latest 4.2.2 Gapps.
The only thing I didn't try is fix permission. But is it related as I have formatted system and wiped data partition.
Thanks.

You can try it also. See if it helps. Flashing gapps can also pose problems.
Try flashing gapps after the rom boots and initial setup has been completed.
If that doesn't work, try flashing an older gapps version.

Stuck in system recovery mode.

Hi, My mum was playing around on her phone when she got a message come up which said software update. She clicked update and the phone restarted. Since then it has been stuck in Android system recovery mode. Even if you reset phone it automatically takes you straight back to this screen. The screen reads
Android system recovery
Volume up/down to move highlight:
Power button to select
Reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update fro external storage.
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache.
I have tried all of these options with no luck at all. We did manage to get into odin mode were it tells you thats its downloading and to not turn of target. However that just sits there and does absolutely nothing. Any help would be muchly appreciated.
Try selecting wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset in the Recovery mode. Then select reboot now.
If ur phone boots normally, all is well. If it still goes into recovery, please let us know.

Odin (or Download mode) does nothing by itself. You have to connect it to the computer in that mode and flash a software via Odin to make it work.
For more info, I suggest you read about Recovery and Download modes.

Before doing a wipe please check always whether stock Android 4.0.4 is installed. In that case do *not* wipe, because of the risk of the emmc brick bug.

I know its better to be safe than sorry, but the Brickbug is most often caused by wiping in temporary CWM while on stock 4.0.4, right?
Also, since the recovery of the OP resembles that of stock JB firmware (update from adb option), I assumed the device has already been updated to JB.

Then you can try two things:
1. Flash a stock rom via Odin
2. Flash siyah kernel via Odin and do a full wipe.

[Q] Stuck on bootlogo

Hi,
I am running stock 4.0.3 ICS XWLP7 on my I9100, rooted with CF-Root 5.4 and wanted to update to 4.1.2 by using Chameleon ROM 3.0.2...
So I went to recovery, did factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and installed the zip file, but after rebooting I am stuck at the bootlogo (with the yellow triangle). After ~10 min. I pulled the battery and rebooted. I was able to get into the new recovery so I tried to flash it again but got the same error.
I am now back at 4.0.3 (nandroid restore).
So.. is there something obvious I did wrong?
TIA for your help.
Did you format system first? If is not working try another kernel

[Q] Phone won't boot after upgrading to 4.3.0

I have finally decided to upgrade my SGS2 and install Android 4.3.0 (currently using an old version of CM 10.1 based on Android 4.1.2).
After wiping my device (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, format /system) and flashing a new ROM, everything worked fine, but when I rebooted my phone it didn't boot anymore (I could still get to recovery/download mode though). This has happened with several 4.3.0 ROMs I've tried...
I've been looking for a solution for a few days now but found nothing, do you have any idea what may be causing this and how can i fix it?
Try flashing without GAPPS at first.
Try format system, flash ROM, Boot, If succeeded reboot and flash gapps. (ensure its the current version - and I suggest the CORE edition.)
Also try using a ROM wipe script before flashing the ROM.

I used GS2ROMNuke (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558) and it seemed to do the trick! My phone is up and running (even rebooting correctly) now with Android 4.3.0.
I will post an update in case it breaks up again (which hopefully it won't).
Thank you!
