[Q] Battery Problem - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've searched and found no related answers to the problem I'm currently facing with my Streak.
A few days back my Streak suddenly couldn't charge thus I brought it down to a reliable handphone repair shop and i was quoted $90 (USD70) for a charging port replacement. I agreed and the technician proceeded with the repairs. After changing a new charging port, the problem is still there which is unable to charge. Technician then use his charger , battery and cable instead of mine but still to no avail. I was told to leave my Streak there to let them find out what's the main problem.
I'm now being informed that it would be more expensive if its the charging insulator or etc if it is. Current estimated repair charges would be $200 (USD156).
So what I would like to ask here is I believe the main problem is not with my battery , battery port and connector right? So if I were to just purchase a cradle + desktop battery charger and charge my battery through the cradle it would still work as per normal? It would also cost way cheaper too.
PS: My last step was using Whatsapp and then I proceeded to charge it and went to bed. The next day i woke up, my Streak was not charged at all.

MOPHO USB Charging... Help please

First, sorry for having to repost this as its own thread, I tried within the jokersax ROM thread, but I think that my question got lost in transition. Anyway here is my issue:
Am on Joker;s ICS 6.0 and I have been using his rom since 2.0 and from 3.1 have just been cleaning cache and dalvik. then installing whichever was the new ROM. But since 5.0 am having a very crappy battery life and if I let the phone die (0%), the battery doesn't charge back. I tried to use a USB connected to a PC (3 hrs on charge), plugged into a power socket (Overnight) and I even tried two other chargers and all those did not work. I could tell that the power was getting to the phone as I had a steady white LED on all the time.
To go around this I had to remove the battery and charge it with an external battery charger, then once I put it back (30%) I was able to continue charging it using a USB cable connected to the computer.
Now I can charge the phone if I plug it into a USB port on the computer, but when I plug it into a power plug directly, the phone shows the charging indicator, but instead of charging it discharge.
Any help?? ...Please !!
I just found that they are other MoPho users on Motorola official forum who have/had the same problem: Mohp won't charge on AC/DC, but unfortunately no solution found so far
<MOD EDIT> Thread moved. Belongs in Q&A
Either a bad charger or you got corrosion in the charging port and/or spilled into the circuit board. Here's a question for you: do you find you have to jiggle or hold the usb charge cable in the port a certain way or apply pressure to get a xharge? Likely a bad charging port. You may not think you have corrosion but it's more common than people think who swear they never had water damage to their phone; in my case, progressively leaving my phone in the shower room on and off for a year and a half degraded my charging port causing increasingly inefficent charge until I had same prob you did. Could be electrical too (maybe overclocking?). Before you rule the software as a culprit my advice is go tour manufacturer's phone store and FIRST buy a new high quality charger. Ask to test in store first. If it works, you should be ok and if it fails most phone company in store purchases on accessories come with a 1 year free replacement warranty. If the new charger is not working you can get a free diagnostic test to see for hardware or software issues which may entitle you to a free replacement or if it is "your fault" which most in store testers may say so they can sell you a new phone or get credit from the insurance company they work with (it might be), then if your sevice is insured, go through the insirance process and get a new ir remanufactured phone for a small fee. These usually have a 1 yr warranty and you can keep your stock sd card and charger and shipping is free. Warranty is usually for a year but unlike unforeseen issues like corrosion (shower steam will do it over time if phone is unexposed) then warranty is void from insurance co. It could also simply be a bad battery and you can always in store try before you buy a new battery (can't be oem). Even if it is a bad port ir corrosion damage, a "new charger" might work like a charm. Just be sure to tell store you used its products and don't be rooted when you bring it in. The store should be able to transfer most if your sata once your "new" replacement phone arrives. Make sure before you go through insurance you exausted all other options because as soon as you send in the affidavidt even if you later find a solution or fix to your phone's charging issues, you still have to send it back or be charged the full price of the usually refurbished phone. You could also always try a nandroid backup, save to an external soure, format/wipe phone, then restore and see if that helps (assuming you're rooted).
Joe.

I ended up sending the phone in to motorola and they gave me a replacement unit. Thanks for your help

[Q] Battery does not charge, please help.

Hello,
my GSII does not take any voltage from any source (USB port or the charger) therefore can not charge it.
I have already bought a genuine replacement battery from my Samsung and already bought a USB board (thought it was the plug on the GSII) and made the replacement. When the battery came, it still had about 50%, the phone booted up just fine, never was able to charge it, after that i always get the temperature icon, even the temperature is not very high. The same battery also did not charge on a GSII friends phone.
This is a very strange symptom, any help or ideas would came in hand.
Thanks,
chapas

Could be a hardware issue.
If you are still on warranty, go to the store/service center and ask for a warranty replacement of the battery and/or the phone.
Good luck !

Thanks for the answer, i'm out of luck, it was an eBay buy.
Just to add more info, i have a mains charger 5V, 1A. I've used it for months, i know that the GSII takes 0.7A but it is capped (read this on this forum), so i used this one for convenience.
I don't know if it has something to do with this.

Not charging and bootup crashing. Please Help

Hey guys! I'm needing some advice/tips.
I've had my g tablet for about a year and lately it really has started acting up. The power reading on the tablet was either like 100% or dying. Last week it just crashed when loading even though I had charged it. I figured the battery was bad and bought a replacement on Ebay, The power socket had been loose for awhile and the whole thing actually fell out of the tablet when I took it apart. I had the socket soldered by a local guy at radio shack since I have no experience soldering. I replaced the battery with no problem and now the tablet will not charge. I can not tell if the new battery I bought is defective or just need a full charge since it seems my tablet won't charge with either battery installed. The connections from the power socket to the motherboard look good, but I'm wondering if the repair man could have messed up the soldering. When I put the original battery in, the tablet will boot up for a bit and then die, but I get nothing from the new battery. I left the new battery in and plugged in the charger thinking maybe the indicator light had gone bad, but that didn't make a difference. I just wondered if anyone had some suggestions for me. (I've been taking apart and repairing my own electronics for years now, so I am confident no damage occurred while I have been tinkering). Any ideas are much appreciated! Thanks!
See this thread. If you can boot into the ROM or ClockworkMod, then you can use the awk script I've written to find out what your battery is doing--charging, discharging, full, RSOC, etc.

[Q] s2 not charging and OTG not work. URGENT help neeeded

Hello. I just bought a s2 i777 unlocked from eBay and i have been having charging issues:
when i unboxed the phone there was no battery juice available and would not turn on. I connected the phone to the default charger(ETAOU10EBE) that came with it and let it charge for 30 minutes and powered it up and then let it charge. i was not home when it was charging...so when i got back 3 hours later it had stopped charging at 74%.
I also noticed it detected the AC charger as USB PLUGGED. I used my nexus 7 adapter and after more than 5 hours it reached 100%. the next day i rooted the phone by flashing siyah kernel and flashed shostock3 4.0( it was on stock 4.0.3 before flash). here i noticed that with any adapter or cable i use the phone takes a lot of time to charge and does not get past 70%.
The phone showed it was charging but actually it was discharging. i powered off the phone to charge it but after sometime when i turned it on to see if it charged the battery the battery has lost all its charge in less than 15 minutes while the phone being off. I searched about this problem on the internet and some people are saying it might be a faulty battery or DAMAGED USB FLEX CABLE. OTG is not working also. i can use my usbdrive on my nexus 7 correctly but it does not detect on the s2. I am thinking the problem is with the USB FLEX itself.
OTG worked before i flased shostock3....
i also reflashed a rooted stock 4.0.3..but that did not solve any problem..so i flashed shostock again. i even flashed pure stock i777 jb 4.1.2...it booted the first time but as soon as i plugged a usb cable to pc or ac it turned off and kept on showing flashing charging battery...so flashed siyah kernel again via ODIN and restored a shostock nandroid backup. And now the phone do not get charged at all and OTG also does not detect,
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
i would gladly ship it back to the ebay seller for another one but shipping is high.
UPDATE: The problem was solved by replacing a USB FLEX CABLE...

Well yes, but if you can do that, it may be the most inexpensive way. One other possibility is that you have a bad USB port in the phone. You can replace that yourself, but you will probably pay as much for the replacement part, and then there is no guarantee it will correct the problem. I have seen several people post that they tried to replace the USB port but that it was not successful. Sending it to a reputable repair shop is also probably not practical or cost effective. So I say, get a working phone from the seller if you can.

creepy's probably right (a usual occurrence), but it could also be as simple as a bad battery. Buying things like this second hand can sometimes give you trouble like you're having, because you don't know what's really OEM or some shoddy off-brand. Another option for you would be to get a cheap battery that's been confirmed to work perfectly on the i777.
Several of us are using this $5 battery from Ebay; it isn't 22000 mah like it promotes (it's more in line with the 1650 that shipped with the phone), but I'm using it right now and have never had any issues. If you want to read further about those of us who've used it, read this thread starting from here.

The seller described the phone as new....it looked new to me when it arrived but it had screen protector perfectly aligned on it...i had the charging issue since day 1. I thought that the battery was new and needed to be broken in...hence the long charging time. The seller refunded me the $9.98 i asked for the defected AC charger supplied(it showed up as usb plugged in any device).
I already contacted the seller several times and after i got his/her approval i left the device at a repair shop for verification of the charging issue....will see how it turns out....i cant buy another battery as it takes more than 30 days for items to arrive here in mauritius...i asked a friend to lend me his s2 battery... Still no sign of him...lol
The local repair shop is taking around $35 to change the usb flex and other short-circuited parts....did you guys had any problem with your usb flex???

I had a problem with the usb flex, I bought two of them on amazon or ebay (I can't remember), did the replace my self and my phone is back on business
4.0.3 has the brick bug, don't perform a factory reset if you're on stock kernel.
I don't believe that bug is causing the issues

Poco F1 is dead

Hi everyone, I got a poco f1 from a friend. He used it quite normally. The cellphone was off for about a month - it didn't work. After a month I tried to start it however unsuccessfully, poco f1 is dead, I tried to charge it but it can't. What could be a malfunction? Help if you know and thank you very much
First, try using a different charging cable and brick. If it doesn't charge, Check if it can be read using a computer or laptop. If it still doesn't work, then the issue may be the charging port. If that's the case, if you are still covered by warranty, then go to xiaomi store. If not covered, go to a proper technician.
Btw if the device can be read on a computer, then it may just be a boot issue. Just flash again.
Does the white charging led light up when it's on charge?
If not, have you tried leaving it on charge for an extended period?
I've had difficulties with phones in the past after batteries have fullly discharged - eg the Moto G5 had some battery protection "feature" that stopped it starting up if it thought the battery was fully discharged - it was a bit over sensitive so would sometimes assume the phone was fully discharged when it wasn't
Try leaving it on charge for 24 hours or so then holding down the power button for for at least 20 seconds with it still on charge
If you have no luck and the warranty is out, get to a repair shop (or disconnect and reconnect the battery if you're confident to open it up - for a while I was getting sporadic shutdowns with my F1, following which it wouldn't take any charge, the battery light staying off when plugged in. This was all fixed by tightening the screws securing the black motherboard plate, the cover which retains all the connectors - not sure why but it seemed something, I suspect the antenna connection, had come loose. Since doing this about 5 months ago I've had no further shutdowns and my phone is usable again, having been completely unreliable before)
One trick that worked on some old Nokia phones was to charge it plugged to a computer instead of plugged to a charger - but as said elsewhere, if the battery is completely dead, YMMV.
Also, try to press and hold the power button and while doing that, plug the phone to the charger and then release the power button.

I guess your battery is dead
I have same issue, however I think my one is a motherboard charging IC issue. Does anyone know a way I can get it cheap from India, as I’m in the UK. India have it for around 9999 rupees which is about £10(+international shipping). I’ve ordered a charging port replacement from AliExpress to see if that solves the problem. However I don’t think that will work. No idea how my motherboard got damaged in the first place. I replaced a cracked screen myself and the phone was working fine for a few weeks, then it stopped charging all of a sudden. My PC also detects it/can access files doesn’t charge it. A new battery powered powered on the phone but again didn’t charge. Tried different adapters and cables too. Any experts out there know whether this is a motherboard issue or just a charging port issue?
If the phone is OFF for a month, then it is probable that the battery has gone down to a point that the BMS has shut it down. The BMS won't allow you to charge the battery because, in its own assessment, the battery is dead. Best way to test this case is to have another Pocophone with a good battery (or just a new battery altogether), detach the cable from that and test on yours. This may or may not work but this is one of the easiest to test and a new battery is easy to acquire.

Before you do that, just try leaving it in charge for 24hrs as suggested above, though it does look rather as if the OP has nicked off so won't be using any of these sage words!
