Hi Guys,
has anyone been able to uninstall urukdroid 1.6 and revert to the original Archos firmware?
I've seen various suggestions from older versions... mainly around wiping file system.
... but no luck so far.
Sure I'm missing something obvious. Any ideas?
Cheers.
You want a way without system wipe? The options are:
1. if you have Stock firmware and Urukdroid - go to recovery menu and select "Developer edition menu" then select "Uninstall Developer Edition". This way you will have only Stock firmware left.
2. If you have only UrukDroid, unstall SDE and select "Update Firmware" upload the Stock firmware from Archos site and you're done.
3. Uninstall SDE (Special Developer Edition) and format the device to make sure its clean. Dont worry, after you format it the device will ask you to connect it to the PC and upload the firmware (you can find it in Archos site). Simply upload it and press the power button nothing can mess up. The installation will end and you will be back to Stock firmware like you wanted.
Thanks Mavasilisk, that's very helpful.
I worked out where I was going wrong. Was booting into urukdroid repair menu... not the Archos recovery menu. Doh!
In case any one else having same problem:
Archos Recovery Menu: Hold Vol + as soon as you reboot and screen goes black.
Urukdroid Repair Menu: Hold Vol + or - as soon as you seen urukdroid splash screen.

hello people
i have removed the stock os from my archos 101 and have only urukDroid 0.7..
how i can install the cinema plugin on uruk?
thanks for help
greets
bd860
when you buy the plugin, you can download an .aos file called "cinema_XXXXXXXXX_plugin.aos" where XXXXX is some hash or key or whatever.
then restart the gen8 device into recovery mode and do upgrade firmware and install the plugin .aos file
Hi,
i've tried to install the file but i can't ...
I've uruk 1.0 when restart in recovery mode , go to update firmware, the device check the file system and after i get error update failed (1) ..
I have the same problem with UD 1.6RC1, how can i install the plugin who have i purchased?
I have only UD on my tablet intern.
guys - u can ONLY have ud - u always have the stock OS still.
So reboot holing down vol- key - boot into android and there install the aos file (go to filemanager and install by clicking on it)
(DONT try to flash the file with recovery)
then u can reboot into UD again and it should show up as registered there also (as far as i read)
When i reboot und holding - there is no point to boot Stock Android.
There ist only:
No
Reboot
Update Firmware
Repair System
Format System
Developer Edition Menu
No more ....
@piti only volume down and power. you help volume up + down and power, didn't you`?
When holding - and power on then comes:
No
Reboot
Update Firmware
Repair System
Format System
Developer Edition Menu
When click - (or hold +) and power on then comes:
Boot AlternativeOS
Repair menu
Backup menu
Boot UrukDroid
ah, I see. you have that multiboot thing on your archos, right? so better ask them for booting questions
OK i have click "Update Firmware" and install 2.4.65 on the tablet.
Now i have the entry "Android" in the boot menu.
I have installed the plugin under stock android and boot back in ud.
It works perfect now.
y - somehow u ****ed your stock rom before the "no" options should have sounded "android"
well glad u have made it now
Hey,
I just received my Archos 101, currently running Urukdroid 0.6. The previous owner did not do a complete factory reset, so his google account and apps, etc, are still on the archos. I've tried every way of reseting the device in the "Repiar + Formating" menu in the settings. Each time I reboot, everything is still the same.
How do I do a complete factory reset?
First option is to do easyinstall from urukdroid once again, after that you have a clean archos, but still urukdroid at it.
Im not sure but in the boot menu there's an entry "Delete Developer Firmware" maybe with this, but ask sauron or some other guys before doing that! Im a noob
I had the same problem for a week^^
i had to do the same. Here is what you have to do, it will wipe everything out and give you a clean slate to start(back to stock). Go to the archos website, and download the newest firmwear. on the archos, but into recovery mode, connect to your pc and drag the downloaded file onto your archos. (I think the file was like 80megs) after the file is copied onto the archos tap the power button once, and it will reset the archos. When it reinstalls the firmwear it must be plugged in. PM me if you have any questions.
Power off your machine, press the + volume key and hold it down, then power on. You should see a menu that lets you delete the developer edition.
So I successfully (I think) took my gtab back to stock rom using NVFlash. Then When i try to install clockwork mod (to eventually move to TNT lite 4.4) I killed it. I copied over the update.zip and recovery folder when attempting to do clockwork. Then I powered down. Now it won't do anything. ie. The screen doesn't even turn on. I tried disconnecting the main battery and letting it sit for up to 20 sec but that doesn't help either. Won't turn on while holding +Vol either (that's how I tried first).
Connect it to your computer via USB and see if it's in APX mode. If it is then you'll likely need to nvflash again. If you do make sure that you are using the right drivers and bekit's 1105 image. Then once you have it up and running you'll likely need to repartition it.
ok. And if that works Can I update the tablet with the new viewsonic release or do I have to keep the old version to run clockwork and then tnt 4.4? I guess 5 has been taken down?
The latest Viewsonic release (build 4349) is NOT compatible with the standard clockworkmod.
TnTLite has been retired and replaced by it's developer with Mountain Laurel which you can find over at SlateDroid. It is based on the latest stock build so you could upgrade to that with no trouble if you choose to.
Alright. Thanks for the help so far. It was indeed still in apx mode. Any Idea's on how to get it out? I can NVFlash it with no problem but every time I reboot (update or just power down) it comes back in APX and I have to re-NVFlash.
You have an APX brick. Unless KJ Rad has come up with a fix yet your stuck right nnow nvflashing everytime you boot

1) nvflash - bekit's 1105 image (nvflash _gtablet_2010110500.zip)
2) wipe data/cache
3) Install CWM
4) reboot into CWM
5) repartition 2048 and 0
6) nvflash bekit's 1105 image again
7) wipe data/cache
If you get any error at any step (especially during the nvflash) stop and let me know. If you're not sure how to do any of those steps I'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
I'm hoping to have something better than this in the next few days but for now this is the best we have to get you working at a good factory load.
Ok. What do I do for steps 2-5 thanks for the help.
2) Wipe Data: This can be done either through "Settings - Security - Factory Data Reset" or Method I from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030915
3) Install ClockworkMod (CWM): The first part of this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 (Just do the CWM install)
4) Shutdown the tablet then restart it while holding down the Volume Up key until the words "Recovery Key Detected" appear in the upper left hand corner of the VS Birds Logo screen.
5) Once in CWM, Look for partitioning under Advanced menu. Select it and answer the two questions 2048 and 0. This will take a few minutes.
update: Ok I think its out of its APX loop (somehow) Now in version 1.0-2638.
Another update:
Boy am I a dumbass. When I put the thing back together I put the VOL key in backwards.... DOH! CW mod is working fine.
I'm guessing I need to update stock software to get best results now? Is that possiblcard if I can't get it to boot in anything but APX anyway???
The best I've been able to do is using the NVFlash found here: http://droidpirate.com/2011/03/10/g-tab-users/
I can see the viewsonic splash for a split second at startup when holding the Vol+ and power then back to APX
I was hoping the data wipe would clear the loop. What ROM did you have on the device before all this started?

Two things... First, I cannot help you effectively if you choose to use resources other than those I recommend. I have no idea what is in that nvflash from droidpirate nor do I have the time to research each and every one so please use the references I provide.
Second, Are you absolutely certain that you're holding down the Volume Up key to go into recovery? You'd be amazed how many folks (myself included) make a mistake here every now and then.

Still can't boot into CW. (VOL+ + Power) DLed version 8 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865017
I'm guessing I'm unbricked but just using wrong CWMod version
is this the one I need?
I guess it depends on which ROM I'd like to run correct? If you could reccommend one and help me get there that'd be great.
That one should work fine for the ROM's on here. If you're going to use the VS stock 4349 build or one of Roebeet's ROM's from slatedroid then you'll need to use the one compiled for the 1.2 development branch.

I'm guessing I need to update stock software to get best results now? Is that possible without wifi as I won't have that until the weekend?
I've re-partitioned the SD card.
I'm going to try and get TNT light 4.2.1 from droidpirate to run
looks like TNT Lite 4.2.1 went on OK. Thanks for the help and remember + is on the right
Glad you got it working. Enjoy!

Hi,
I'm in the APX loop and have been unable to progress through these instructions.
My error was that I successfully flashed CWM v08 and Vegan, then tried to use ROM Manager to switch to Cyanogen. ROM Manager forced me to update the CWM to 2.xx, and then on the reboot it had the 'Magic' error.
I've done NVFlash and can get into TnT but can't get past the APX loop to install the CWM (as per step 3) - my holding down power + vol+ just results in a black screen, then when I check for APX mode, it is still in that mode.
Step 2 (clear cache) forces a reboot - is that right? I've tried the other method of clearing cache ('Method I').
Any ideas? I only got this thing a few hours ago, lol!

Hi,
Was trying to root an Archos 101 G9 and followed the instructions here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360840
No problem. Paul's root worked, broke my sound, installed 1 and 2, removed local.prop, all working nicely.
So I rebooted it and tried to get into the recovery console so I could have a play with the SDE menu and now it just comes up with a menu
"Archos A101S Recovery
Would you like to recover your system?
No
Reboot
Update firmware
Repair System
Format System"

Whatever I do, it just reboots to this screen. Hold vol - or vol + makes no difference, it flashes up the Archos boot screen and then goes white.
As for the menu, I have tried most of them, only "Format" left and I don't know if I can fix it if I do that, so decided to ask here....
So, any clues?
Thanks in advance.
Well, if you don't see the developer menu, it means that the sde kernel didn't flash properly.
When you don't press volume keys, does the device boot properly ?
If it does, re-do the whole procedure and show me what is displayed when you launch the batch file. Launch it in a cmd window, not directly from explorer to be able to copy/paste.
If it doesn't boot normally, make it work again first by re-flashing firmware with "update firmware " in recovery.
Thank you for your reply.

Sadly, that was the problem. Endless loop of boot into white screen.... boot into white screen.... ever since I went anywhere near the SDE console.
Finally got it to re-do the firmware so is now back to stock. Turns out it doesn't like it if you rename the firmware AOS file (ie "firmware_archos_it4.aos") to include a version number (ie "firmware_archos_it4_3_2_56.aos") and just says "Update Failed".
Once that's figured out, it's "Update firmware", copy AOS file across into the RAMFS drive you can see in windows and select OK on the tablet. Rest is automated.
Starting again....
Paul's root, done.....
SDE enabling done.
Remove Paul's root (fixes sound and sleep issues).....
Tablet still works.... now to figure out how to root it.

Ok, good. So now, in recovery you should have the developer menu.
If you do have it, next step is flashing from developer menu a rooted firmware, take a look here.

Reinstall original archos firmware.

Once you get the stock firmware running again and the developper edition removed, some leftover files can be still found in the root directory.
-data.img
-openaos-gingerbread.img.gz
If you don't think you'll come back to CyanogenMod/OpenAOS, they're not needed anymore.
