So has anyone noticed that there is no 4g toggle. The only thing I could find was network types. I switched mine to cdma only. How would this affect battery life? Discussion on the LTE radio. Go.

There is a toggle it is for CDMA only or LTE/CDMA.

There was a discussion about the same thing for the galaxy nexus. Change it to cdma only for mild battery savings... maybe like 10 minutes more.

Yeah I saw that. I had it on cdma only all day yesterday and my 3g was nonexistent I put it back just ran a speed test and got 1.1 down so...I'm also in a first round market for LTE and our 3g has been all over the place.

@shellguy - Based on what the OP stated they did notice that you can switch modes. They're referring to there being a toggle like there was on the 4G and 3D.
@OP - You are correct that is the only way to "disable" LTE. It's been this way on all LTE phones though as LTE is meant to stay on once it gets going and only switch back to EVDO if there is no signal unlike WiMax which was meant to suplliment EVDO the same as WiFi does. LTE will have better signal penetration and coverage because of the frequencies it will be on so once you get LTE you can just leave it on unless you want to squeeze every ounce of juice out of your battery. Also since the LTE radio is built into the SOC you don't have to turn on a seperate radio which is what that toggle on the 4G and 3D is doing. By default leaving it on will give lower power drain when compared to WiMax but if you do toggle to just CDMA mode it will give even less power drain because it is no longer searching for an LTE signal periodically. Hope that answers your question.
So basically there is no 4G lte widget?

Difference in 3G speeds you saw was possibly due to you being connected to eHPRD and using the new NV backhaul too...
Check and see what kind of network you showed connected to.

People will post if they want to - probably is quite because there has already been a lot of discussion of speeds.
Man, what the hell is going on with Sprint's 3g latley... I know they have alot of new members but still, it should not have this bad of an impact.
It must be there network. At my house using my airave I just got 2.5Mbps. At work where I have a good signal I was getting between .25 - .5Mbps.
If it was the radio I would probably get slow speeds on my airave as well. At least that is what I would assume.
These speeds are with the 3g proxy fix.....
I didn't see a big difference with the fix. But my ping increase 10th fold with the fix...meaning the connection was worse. So I went back to original. I doubt sprint put the proxies just to slow the phone down...they are competing with other providers in terms of 3g network speed.
I agree network must be having problems. My fiancees EVO scores same as my 3vo. At apartment we always get 700 kbs to 1.3 mbs. Lately we lucky to 100 kbs downloads

You realize your airave uses your home internet?
I get between 5-10mbs down and about 1-2 up on 4g. On 3g I get between 100kbs -1.5mbs down depending on the signal level. 100-500kbs upload. I live in huntsville and decatur al.

I mean unofficial by unannounced by sprint but shows on clearwire coverage map,
good speeds though right?
3G: 1.16Mbps / 0.60Mbps
4G: 4.56Mbps / 1.63Mbps
WiFi: 6.91Mbps / 3.43Mbps
These are all 4g (Charlotte, NC)
And the bottom four are 3g. They were horrible that whole day.
The one I just ran was 1075kbps and 363kbps which could still be better.
On another note, I noticed when I left 4g on, it didn't drain my battery the way I thought it would. I suppose it was since it was connected the whole time and not scanning for it.
Gotta love WiMax in these parts. I remember last year around this time when 8Mbps was my peak speed.

technically, the speed doesn't depend on network type, it should be the same on both GSM and CDMA. It depends on your cell provider limits.
Ok. Well people with GSM network providers .. what are your 3G speeds?

"3G" gsm AT&T or T-Mobile is WCDMA (HSPA+ capable of up to 21mbps theroetical) Verizon and Sprint "3G" is EVDO (Theroretical up to 3mbps) you have to look at the phones radio capabilities and the network. Technically the 3G tech that GSM uses is faster than the 3G tech CDMA uses.
The phones... UGH... It depends on the service you have, your location, and how far you are from the tower... The phone dosent... Just.. Stupid ass question... Really just.. You're stupid end of story.

its NOT RevB....sorry, you wont ever see RevB with Sprint as they have chosen to go the other route with LTE and feel RevB will be a waste of time/effort/resources to implement with LTE rollout underway and that very likely taking a TON of strain off the 3G backbone...
Here are FL Rev A speeds with about 3 bars, this is with the "Proxy" mod.
For some reason i could connect to LTE for about 30 seconds before my phone would revert to 3G. no matter how many times i updated prl or profile.
Solution: used Network from app store to switch from CDMA+LTE AUTO to LTE,CDMA. now getting lightning fast LTE all the time.

App works well, good shortcut..
I just have to set it back to cdma, lte+evdo/auto when I leave an lte area.. Then 3g/4g/1x hand offs appears to function normally..
Lte+cdma lets me maintain 4g down to 1 bar otherwise it drops down to 3g for no reason I can tell..

Enhanced High Rate Packet Data (eHRPD). eHRPD is an enhancement of 1xEV-DO (AKA HRPD) that enables LTE to CDMA handover.
00mred00, do you know a way around this problem? I'm just not getting LTE if I don't change my network like this. Seems odd that we should have to do this at all. Is this a problem of the freshROM or a coverage problem or what?
Thanks for the intel.
It happens because sprint has flipped the switch early and less than half of lte towers are on and are still not fully powered up. The 3g signal is stronger (although slower) than the 4g.. Sprint has said that there lte isn't fully functional and that it's currently mostly for outdoor use

This is pretty much what I have found here in Dallas. I am not convinced we we need a permanent solution for this reason.

My speeds are pretty much not even LTE. In fact I was getting just as good speeds with my non-LTE Atrix 4g. From my bedroom I get about 1mbps and the upload...well if it registers at all I get 300kbps. Admittedly I get terrible terrible reception here even on my old phone. At my grandmas house where I get 3-4 bars I got up to 8mbps per second on one or two tests but often it was around 3mbps. The upload there never got above 600-700kbps. I live in Orange County, CA so maybe there are so many users that that's just as fast as we get...or maybe it's this phone. I dunno yet. Gonna try it at work(Disneyland) tomorrow and see how it works.
I attached a txt file with my tests...on most of them it says HSDPA, dunno what that even means.
Sounds like you do not have LTE in your area yet. The signal icon on your status bar will say 4G LTE if you have it.

Yes it does say it right under the 4G. Go back and look at some of the screen shots. If you are both on At&t you should go to the store because you should have it also.

I don't know the AT&T network but on Rogers, Bell & Telus in Canada you need to specify an LTE APN. The HSPA/+ APN you have configured by default with your SIM probably won't support or recognize LTE service speeds, and even my 'LTE network' microSIM didn't import this automatically, I had to manually input the APN.
33/1.9 I wonder what's up with my upload speed.
