I think there is still no simple way of rooting our .62 firmwares other than the downgrade trick...
its just simple...just follow the instructions...Ive been doing that always...
but what I did was, when I was at .62 via OTA update, I immediately made a back-up of the system via CWM...so everytym I downgrade and root + CWM, I just flash the back-up...that's just it for me, but I think other Users has their own way of doing it...

As I said I need a direct method, without downgrading to .42 ! Your thread is with downgrading so it wont help me ... And also without unlocking the bootloader, cuz my warranty will fly away ... Cuz I want to be able to root/unroot the phone anytime ... I cant always downgrade to .42 and upgrade it again ... That's the point ...

.62 software update just showed up in pc companion today for me, and i have some questions.
i will appreciate anybody taking the time to elighten me.
1. currently my phone uses .58 and is rooted. can i upgrade to .62 or do i have to unroot it first?
2. if answer to question 1 is "yes", will it still be rooted after upgrade?
3. is it worth going to .62, since ICS is expected soon?
(neo v newbie here, dont shoot please!)
thank you.

1: yes you can update, with the zipfile in my signature if you have cwm recovery flash it through there, no unroot needed
2: Yes if you flashing the zipfile in my signature, you dont lose any apps or setting and you dont have any wipe or factory reset to do, just flash through cwm.
Its for locked bl
3: yeah i think so, im waiting to on ICS.
Dont update though pc companion if you will keep root !
well I don't see much difference between 0.42 and 0.62 fw's tbh.Maybe very slight faster ui.Install the zip thedroidboy posted(one in Pandemics sig) with cwm and you will have 0.62 with rooted and cwm already installed.Touch screen repeatedly at bootup after installing the zip to access cwm recovery.
This is if you use pc companion,
1.Yes
2.No,but you can root. But not easy like zergrush exploit.
3.Doubt that,cos well again I am saying I don't find that much differences in 0.42 vs 0.62
thank you.
i guess i will stick to .58 until ICS comes.

Sorry my fault and yes you can use this to
it was never locked, so "relocking" it seemed a bit strange. then i read the following answers
i will give it a thought, but i am partial to waiting for ICS, unless i find something not working right in .58 and being fixed in .62
again, thanks for your answers!

I flashed to 4.0.1.A.0.283 Generic Global rom but now I want to revert to stock rom and I want root with easy way. What can I do?
Why using that old fw??
Flash .42 fw, and root it with DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit.
Everything is in STICKY thread in development section.
Which is why I suggest you, first read sticky threads and other ones, then ask questions.

I tried to relock bootloader with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134335
Flashtool said flashing done and my phone worked. I checked but it says still unlock.

For Neo V
01.Flash to 0.42 fw using flashtool
02.Root and install CWM
03.Download this & install it with cwm, just install. No need to wipe anything
(If your boot loader is unlocked use this instead )
And you have rooted, cwm installed 0.62 fw
For Neo
01.Flash to 0.42 fw using flashtool
02.Root and install CWM
I cannot find a proper link like the Neo v one for Neo,I guess you have to unlock boot loader to root Neo in 0.62 fw.There is nothing much upgraded anyway in 0.62 comparing to 0.42.So no harm in staying 0.42.And next time please mention what phone do you own(Neo or Neo V ) please.
Anyway if u did little research before asking this I'm pretty sure you would've found the answer already in Neo V android development section mate.
My phone have unlock bootloader. that's why I can't flash an another fw. Because it can be brick.

OTA can brick your phone, but flash shouldn't. Why I say shouldn't? Because if you follow instructions everything will be ok. Follow link I gave you, and flash .42 fw with flahtool.

If everyone open a new thread for each own question we are not helping others with same problems. Please have a read to the forum rules, it will help you to get the best of XDA. Best regards,

Hi, I will have SE Xperia Neo V, and I have 2 questions:
1. Root - I update my phone SEUS and I want to root my xperia. How to do it? am looking for an easy way.
2. OC - I wanted to speed up the phone using OC and Smartass v2. How is the easiest way to upload?
In both cases I will not unblock the bootloader! Must stay stock rom and kernel, only OC and root will be in my phone.
Please help me.
Sorry for english, google translator help me

Yes. Unlocking and relocking giving you OFFICAL updates.
And with OTA, SEUS and PC Companion I will be can update after relock?
And I will be update Neo V to official 4.0 and and it is important to me
I recommend use Flashtool!!
:/
No, only SEUS, OTA, PC Companion, official ICS will be first in this, in flashtool later...
!
So, I will be can update my phone via PC Companion, SEUS and OTA after relock bootloader? I use Sony Ericsson official method.

To be honest not sure about ota but pc comp. and seus will work. ota should work 99%.
locked or unlocked your still going to get it but probably before with unlocked boot loader because carrers will still need to push update not that's what's going to take the time

You must first have your bootloader unlocked. Search the forum for ways on how to, there are (2) current methods being used to. When your bootloader is unlocked, download either expeacer's extended kernel or krsh v 3.0( check my sig ) and install it via fastboot mode. By following this you accomplish the ff: root your phone, install cwm and busybox. Btw, someguyfromhell has made a tut for this. Check it out.

P2P, are you on the wrong forum? This is called community bro, no one leeches from one another. Information gathered from one's experience and from our experts are being shared in here for free and so is with whatever MOD you find in here. When someone post a question, try to answer it with what you know otherwise read and observe. Downgrading is the best option, even for noobs like you and me

Bootloader unlock voids warranty! But Check out at

Better to root is downgrading! You can unroot and keep your warranty...
Second method for Bootloader unlocking is testpoint method, just search in General section.

I will recommend the official method. Here, you will lose DRM files. But,from my view ,they are of no big use at all
On the other hand, the s1 tool doesn't exploit the DRM files, but a small mistake could brick your phone.

yes you can.. this wont affect warranty..google DRM..for eg. like track info
Better go on with official method..
Unlocking your phone via the official way would result in losing of your DRM keys.. This won't allow you to use Sony 's official apps like track id.
And furthermore you won't be able to update your phone via OTA or SEUS..
But you don't worry about them as we have solutions here on xda!
There are more cons in the official way but still I recommend you to use this method as it easy than s1 tool and would involve less chances of damaging your device!
Cheers!

See I recommend you to first unlock your bootloader and then root it!
Without unlocking your bootloader, you can't directly root. 62 firmware!
But after unlocking it you'll be able to root your device via fastboot by flashing the recovery neo. img
And to save your time, flash a custom kernel instead.. They are pre rooted and comes with CWM!
