Hey,
I have brought a new Neo V and i wanted to unlock it. my question is should i unlock it by Using Official method or by s1tool method. As the Official method is much safer what are its cons? as i am a bit worried to do it via s1tool method as i am new to bootloader unlocking. Please help me.

I will recommend the official method. Here, you will lose DRM files. But,from my view ,they are of no big use at all
On the other hand, the s1 tool doesn't exploit the DRM files, but a small mistake could brick your phone.

yes you can.. this wont affect warranty..google DRM..for eg. like track info
Better go on with official method..
Unlocking your phone via the official way would result in losing of your DRM keys.. This won't allow you to use Sony 's official apps like track id.
And furthermore you won't be able to update your phone via OTA or SEUS..
But you don't worry about them as we have solutions here on xda!
There are more cons in the official way but still I recommend you to use this method as it easy than s1 tool and would involve less chances of damaging your device!
Cheers!

See I recommend you to first unlock your bootloader and then root it!
Without unlocking your bootloader, you can't directly root. 62 firmware!
But after unlocking it you'll be able to root your device via fastboot by flashing the recovery neo. img
And to save your time, flash a custom kernel instead.. They are pre rooted and comes with CWM!

Hi XDA and Its Members, Dev, and Admins,
i have purchased 3 Android phone b4r but all were Samsung Make (i5801,S5830,i9003), Now i want to buy SE Neo V. So i have some questiong
1. Is It Possible To Root and Use CWM With Out Unlocking Bootloaders
2. If I unlock bootloaders will i be able to re-lock it for warranty.
3. What Is DRM key and Will it be retrieved after locking bootloader
4. What are the features i can get with unlocking my bootloader
5. is there is any available custom roms for SE NEO V
kindly reply me and if possible point me the threads fo rooting with/without bootloaders.
Hello =)
1.Yes Root is possible and CWM i think thats too possible
2.Yes and No, because u must unlock your bootloader via some tutorial here or on SE dev site but !No with tespoint metod! (When you unlock bootloader via testpoint you cant re-lock it)
3.Try this i think you can unlock bootloader without loosing DRM keys http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285285 (Y its for arc but it works on neo too)
4.A lot of things =) You can overclock your device (up to 2.0ghz) you can flash custom rom, etc.
5.Yes
Root without unlocked bootloader yes it is too possible try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582

If I Unlock The Bootloader Will I Get The ICS Update This April ? Or I Still Get It If I Dont Unlock It. *Im Not A Professional Rooter*
Xperias with unlocked bootloaders won't get official updates.
#correct if im wrong!
you will get the update. just install it with pc companion. if that wont work, youll get the flashable files in dev section.
don't worry someone will make ftf file and you can also update via wotanserver.
If you unlock the bootloader, then there's a risk your phone will be bricked when you update firmware over the air using seus or pccompanion. You should update it offline using flashtool and ftf firmware file.
If you unlock it and use a custom rom, then I don't think you would get official update notification anyway.
If you're not planning to use custom kernel or custom rom, then I suggest you only need to root it .

There's a big risk on unlocking the bootloader because we wont be able to receive official updates or even void our warranty with our manufacturers. Make sure that you know the advantages and disadvantages of unlocking the bootloader before proceeding.

I think there is still no simple way of rooting our .62 firmwares other than the downgrade trick...
its just simple...just follow the instructions...Ive been doing that always...
but what I did was, when I was at .62 via OTA update, I immediately made a back-up of the system via CWM...so everytym I downgrade and root + CWM, I just flash the back-up...that's just it for me, but I think other Users has their own way of doing it...

As I said I need a direct method, without downgrading to .42 ! Your thread is with downgrading so it wont help me ... And also without unlocking the bootloader, cuz my warranty will fly away ... Cuz I want to be able to root/unroot the phone anytime ... I cant always downgrade to .42 and upgrade it again ... That's the point ...

You must first have your bootloader unlocked. Search the forum for ways on how to, there are (2) current methods being used to. When your bootloader is unlocked, download either expeacer's extended kernel or krsh v 3.0( check my sig ) and install it via fastboot mode. By following this you accomplish the ff: root your phone, install cwm and busybox. Btw, someguyfromhell has made a tut for this. Check it out.

No, so far there is no known way to root ICS 4.0.4. Downgrading is the only way if you want to keep your bootloader locked.

Hi!
I have an Xperia U ICS flashed using flashtool. Unrooted and Locked. I do want to root/unlock, I just had a few questions first.
- Can I root my phone WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader?.. as I heard that unlocking ones bootloader is risky and can damage the phone.
I really have no idea as to how to root a phone as I'm totally new to droid ( 1st android phone ) ! So it would be really helpful if someone at least posted a link(s) for a tutorial. (The right tutorial for a newbie! ) If possible, I want to root my phone WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader.
- What is the difference between Root with Locked bootloader & Root with Unlocked bootloader?
And regarding ROMs, I also heard that custom ROMs are really much better than the stock ones, So If anyone could help me choosing the best ROM for my Xperia U would be helpful too. Also a tutorial link as to how to install a custom ROM. User reviews would be real helpful here, People who have custom Xperia U ROMs, HELP!
Help out guys
P.S I know there are tutorials out there, I just don't know which one to follow.
Just follow the instructions here to root your phone :

Yes you can root your phone without locking the bootloader, when you unlock the bootloader you void your warranty. A locked bootloader doesnt void your warranty, but doesnt allow you to be able to flash all custom roms, some need an unlocked bootloader to work. Cannot help you with guides because i use the Xperia P, good luck though.
