So if the battery is sealed into the EVO 4G LTE, how do you recover from a lockup.

Hold Power for 10 seconds should force it off.
Kind of like how Windows PC's did it when they got rid of the Reset button.

Unfortunately, I have managed to lock mine up already. The good news is that I can confirm that holding the power button down does indeed reboot the phone!

Here's a reboot trick for anyone that's tired of pulling there battery when phone locks up
I know this trick works on the HTC EVO 3D and the HTC EVO 4G could possibly work for others well here's what you do hold the volume up , volume down , power , search button down all at same time phone will reboot if your quick enough you can hold volume down & power to get back to recovery options if this helps anyone just say thanks.
Fyi, holding down all those except the search button will still reboot it as well.

Mine works fine here. This is how I always learned to do it. Press both volumes and then the power button. Hold until it resets.

It will sometimes only seem to work of you start pressing volume down, then up and power and holding. This trick works if your phone has frozen as well.
Nice!

Nice tip. Thanks so much. I hate having to take off my case to pull the battery!

Have you tried a manual reboot? Hold power + volume down till the prime reboots.
Are you sure it's even powered on? heh j/k, had to say it.
If it's unresponsive and manual rebooting doesn't work, there's always waiting for battery to die. In my experience, Android seems to reboot itself after a while when there are freezing issues...
When I hold the power down it will vibrate every 10 seconds as if im cold booting it, and if I don't hold it down and wait for it to boot I can essentially unlock it and shut it down since I know where on the screen to press for shutdown. I know its shutting down cause after i press on the screen where shutdown button is, a few seconds later itll vibrate. So I'm pretty sure its the screen.
I remember reading somewhere here you can factory reset by holding down volume down then power button. And wait a few seconds realease them then either I leave it alone or press up or down volume and it will factory reset. I just don't remember the sequence. Anyone else remember? I think maybe juniriders recommendation will work.

Once it does cut back on, uninstall Google chrome browser immediately if you have it. Others that had same issue also just recently installed that app. They uninstalled it and device behaves normal again. Worth a shot if you do in fact have it installed.
Thanks for the input guys. Ill try the power + volume to factory reset. If its still wont come back on I assume its a screen issue.

Are You trying the reset button?
I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. HDMI TO TV! So I was right that it is the screen issue cause I can see everything on the TV. Gonna back it up, factory reset and see if I can get it exchanged.

Hey. I have the EVO 3D and every now and then the phone freezes or maybe when restarting the phone it gets stuck on the boot image and ill just pull the battery to fix it. What is to be done in this situation if it happens on the LTEVO? My 3D is not rooted and is stock as can be so the freezing situation must be normal.

There's a key combination. Home and power for a few seconds? Not sure since I don't have one yet but I'm sure its in the manual.
Hold vol+ vol- and home all at the same time
There's a manual?

I didn't know about that one! That's weird that using volume down saves the picture to a 'Screenshots' folder, while using home it saves to Camera shots. Well I'll be using power + vol down from now on
So will I. I have a hell of a time getting the timing right on power+ home. I gotta try like 6 times before I finally get it right. Button hit.

Power and volume down works best. Getting the timing right for the home button route is just a pain in the a$$!

Ahh the volume down is much better, it shows the screen shot and gives a notification.. Gracias amigos

Just press and hold down the power button then tap the home button.
Works for me fine. You don't have to press them at the same time.

Shoukdnt have any issues using home button method. Just hit power button then about a quarter second to half second later tap home. I don't have issues with EITHER method to be honest

you guys need to push the buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. if you see the volume slider that means it was not done simultaneously

Worked that time. Odd though since it does not need to be simultaneous with the power/ home combo. Thank you for the clarification.

It's another timing game.
Press power and vol down at the same time - do not let go.
Hold for 1-2 seconds till you see the animation
release

So my wife pulled her phone out of her pocket and her LTE was stuck like this.
Can't do a reset or anything. Anyone else have this happen?? On the way to a Sprint store now.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
i'll be honest..... doesn't look good........
on the 3D you could hold the 2 volume buttons, then the power button until the device reset. not sure if that trick is still available. give it a shot.
That looks like the beginning of the ole shut down/screen off animation.
Regardless, holding the power button down should reboot the phone. Assuming everything comes back up alright.
If you hold the power button for an extended period of time it will simulate a battery pull.
Sent from my Evo 4G LTE using Tapatalk
Be careful that this isn't the next thing that happens:
You need to hold the power and volume down button.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Tried them all......hold power button down for 30 seconds to simulate battery pull and power button with volume down. Both restarted right back to pixeled screen. Sprint rep called it "garbled" just now. They had no idea and hadn't seen it. Will see in an hour......

That doesn't look like an LCD problem to me... unless the connector was borked.
Ive seen that screen on my EVO shift long ago. More than once and I had to battery pull to fix it.
