I've moved on from T-Mobile to Sprint.
I got the Evo 3d. I have never ordered a phone this way. Usually its only through carrier or in store.
But I figured Id try wirefly.
No deposit.
Went well.
But I have silly worries because im anticipating this phone so much.
Anyone that has used them before?

I've used them a couple of times, and had no problems. Nothing to worry about. I decided to go the Radio Shack route, but that's because I want to make sure I have it at 9am when they open.
just wished you'd of posted that you were looking to get the phone before jumping on wirefly tho
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Wirefly
They have a pretty good reseller rating over the last 6 months, but it looks like their customer service is crap.
I had a problem getting my HTC Hero from them (although it was back in '09?). I called, answered all information (literally took like 2 hours), and the sales rep continued to try to sell me accessories even though I had said no countless times. Then, the next day, they tell me to email them my SSN for security because Sprint rejected the upgrade or something. I cancelled and ordered straight from Sprint.

They said ill have it the 24th. I hope that's right. Anyone ever pre order from them?
Did you get the phone on release day?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I ordered my wife's Epic from them for $149.99 ($100 less then the Sprint stores launch price) and was very happy with the customer service and fast delivery time. Although as someone above stated they did try to push accessories and insurance on me, no big deal, I just turned them down.
I ordered my EVO 3D from them about two weeks ago for $149.99 with no shipping or tax (of which Sprint charges the full retail price of the phone for), so that was a huge savings. I was concerned about shipping times but after a recent call to them I was told it would be shipped on the release date of the 24th, and I should have it in 2 business days.
I will let you know how it went after I get my phone, but right now I feel pretty comfortable buying from Wirefly.
Don't know if anyone saw, but the "HTC Store" is taking pre-orders too.
http://shopamerica.htc.com/cell-phones/productdetail.htm?prId=39065
I just noticed it today. I was hoping to find accessories, but stumbled upon this instead.
So this is what I found out about wirefly. They were great. Great service. But one thing. I was robbed of my shipping fee.
How you say?
I paid 7.99 for 2day buisness. A couple different reps told me the phone should arrive friday.
It will not be here till Monday. Fedex is taking its sweet time.
It makes no since to pay that damn 2buisness day if you know damn well you wont make release.
I mean unless wirefly had it to me on friday. they should have told me it would make no difference with how they ship and saved me the 7.99.
Yes 179 is nice for the phone. But you add 8 bucks and 188. Or 199 and have it friday.
So in my view if you are intrested in which way to go. Just go to sprint. Or a walk in dealer.

Yes, yes it is.
So I'm a little confused about the whole trade in price of the original Evo 4G. According to the ad is states that they are giving $100 toward the purchase of the Evo 3d, but on Radio Shack's website the trade in value for an Evo in excellent condition is $158. If anyone that works for Radio Shack could answer this it would be greatly appreciated. I was actually thinking about trading in my Evo tomorrow to see what the value would be.

thanks for the post im on the same boat in this confusion, truth be told id rather get 158 for the phone and then not have to pay anything for my 3d
why dont you call a few radio shacks and ask?
The Radio Shack by me is already closed. Just trying to see if anyone had the answer. Working all day tomorrow and was gonna have someone do it for me.

I lol'd...
call them all. at the very least 15 in each state
I just called my radio shack. They will only do the $100. I told them the site says $158. They said they can't price match it when it comes to the 3d purchase because it has come from corporate. So maybe trade in for a different phone. Return it after 15 seconds and get the 3d? Me, I'm just going to sprint first thing in the am and if they have stock I'll just get it there and use my RS gift card for accessories.
Not much use in a RS thread, but my local sprint store is giving 150... and I don't even have to unroot. Keep the SD card and charger... just hand over the phone
NO NO NO NO!!!! guys! i worked at the shack and now dont lol. SO! heres what you do! You trade in your EVO for the regular trade in price of 158, you DO NOT trade it in towards your evo3d that will only get you your 100 trade in.... so go in and say hey i wanna trade in this phone, it should still be 158 till at least thursday or friday then im sure it will plummet, i traded mine in for the 158 and then used 50 of the trade in to preorder it =) soooo theres your insider tip!
Did just that at the Sprint store today. Gave them my rooted OG Evo for a $150 credit. Kept sd card and charger. No issues at all.

I work for RadioShack. It's a little strange but trade-ins handled through the site aren't necessarily indicative of what you would get should you trade in at a store.

RS sales associate here. We got a notification from corporate yesterday saying that if the traded in phone is worth more with a normal trade in, the higher price will be honored. The $100 is basically for phones that have damage to the point where the traded in value will be below $100 (same goes for the $75 deal too). If your evo is in good enough condition, the $158 trade in value will be honored.

I've always done that sort of thing - as in giving normal appraised trade-in price if it was higher than minimum "guaranteed" - because really, there was no one that told us not to.

Well I just went to a Sprint store to pre-order my 3d and two different reps had mentioned to me that I should turn my phone in today as they are unsure the $150 price will stick tomorrow on trade-in. So i'm going back after work to turn it in. Cause well they wouldn't say that if wasn't going to happen and I would rather get the $150 instead who knows. Used to work at the Sprint HQ for years.

Yeah.....just for new customers or adding a line, not for upgrades.
I was a new customer and I preordered it on the 8th, you guys think I will get a 30 dollar credit if I call them? I dont know if they do that on the phones, they have been pretty nice to me so I might give it a try tomorrow.
I added another line at the Shack...just my luck! But my first thought when I hear price drop is it's losing its luster so to speak. I probably over-reacted though.

Nah Amazon always have lowest prices. Retail stores can't compete and won't price match Amazon. I still buy from best buy and price match radioshack or lowest retail I can find the Geek Squad protection plan is second to none no deductible $10 a month and brand new replacement even from water damage. So you may save now but lose out on money later.

I actually looked at the details of their plan, there is no where it says you get a straight replacement, they will send it in for repairs if that is necessary. I didn't see anywhere where it says you get a direct replacement. Although it is likely they will replace it, I really hate how every employee at best buy tells you something different, last time I tried to exhange a phone wher gps would never lock and I was within thirty days, one person tried to tell me that is how it is suppose to be. Tried to make a fool out of me and after I talked to the third person, fourth person actually decided to replace it for me.
The offer is $149, in my area at least. And ya, only for new customers. The wirefly friends and family was selling for the same price and was upgrade friendly, for those still looking.
EDIT: I guess I should've re-searched it up. The current price is up to $179- wirefly(DOT)com/eCommerce/SpecialOffer.aspx?cid=26987_584f5c9aca934f7b941e32743e8f2eff
Original source info: goodandevo(DOT)net/2011/06/htc-evo-3d-priced-at-14999-at-wirefly-friends-and-family-site.html
if you kept the packaging and traded it in at radio shack and it was in excellent condition as was mine, the evo 4 got you 158 dollars off on a 3d. so my final in store cost including them incorrectly charging me 12 bucks tax on the original 199.99 instead of the tax on 41 dollars was 54 bucks and some change. beat that
It will be 6-12 months before price drops in my opinion...
These things aren't doing bad yet. My blog has had 3x more hits on the Evo 3D post I made than any other post since Christmas. My local Sprint store's take was "On release day we didn't have the line like we did when the Evo 4G came out", but when I asked for more details it turns out they sold more Evo3Ds than 4Gs (which ran out) the first day, and have had a steady flow of Evo 3D buyers each day since then as reviews have come out. Sprint underestimated the demand for the 4G, and has made sure they have a ready supply of the 3D.

I paid 104 for mine but they also bought my vibrant back from me

I agree. I did it but radio shack are bastards to deal with. I had problems with my 3D and now I have a Photon and had issues. They suck to deal with and I'm under my 30 days. They don't wanna do exchanges or returns. I've had to have Sprint call and make them obey policy twice now. Wish I would have just gone to a Sprint store.

Just to be fair, my RadioShack here on Geary Blvd. in San Francisco has given me amazing service, even selling me the 3VO before my upgrade expired so I could if I wanted do a 30 day exchange for the Photon. FYI, according to Sprint, the $99 price point at Radio Shack has nothing to do with them, and will not be honored at Sprint store or online via Sprint.
New Photon Today
I just took up Best Buy Mobile on the $99 deal. I added a new line for my father and gave him my EVO 4G and picked me up a new Photon.
Slingplayer and Logmein are my most used apps.
Still working out the video chatting software. Got QIK running with video, so off to a good start.
Will try out my HDMI cable tonight.

I don't expect Sprint to honor that. My issue is with Radio Shack. I have had two defective devices so far and had problems getiing them exchanged even though they saw the problems and I am under 30 days. Sprint had to step in and make them do what they were supposed to. I live in the midwest though so it's probably completely different where you are.

I used to work for RadioShack, key word "used to". Now I'm a lead technician for Sprint and I can tell you straight up, it's a mistake to buy anything from RadioShack. Their policies are very crooked and there are enough loopholes in all of their warranties that the coverage is voided before you even walk out of the store half of the time. One of the local stores here is currently under investigation for lying about deposit amounts and pocketing the extra cash. They also do everything possible to get out of honoring the Sprint 30 day satisfaction guarantee. If there is so much as a light surface scratch anywhere on the phone, they will deny you a swap or even cancellation. It's pathetic, just don't do it.

They can't do that, it is a Sprint phone with a Sprint contract, they are just the middle man, they cannot do anything to the Sprint contract that says you can exchange your phone if you are not satisfied within 30 days, and you can actually do that 3 times. So really its 90 days. I would literally fight one of them if they didn't do what I asked them. Real talk.

If you are current Sprint customer, you can call telesales and get price match of RadioShack for $99 (YMMV). You will basically get additional $100 credit of the phone that is $199. My phone is on my way.......
It didnt take them any longer to get the Photon than it did Best Buy or non-corporate Sprint-branded stores. They arent refurbs.
SOME RS's do sell refurbs, its all very plainly stated, and they're pretty reasonable and often without contract so its saved my ass a time or two when out of town and a phone ends up broken.
They're selling at a lower price because NEW activations come with a kickback/monthly that extensions dont. There used to be a few guys that did this exclusively on Ebay, they were a legit official Sprint partner selling phones for virtually nothing on new activations only. I got a PPC6700 or 6800 for basically free when they retailed for 500+ and all I had to do was add a line...which was fine with me since I had $10 Vision and free add-a-phone back when you could get all those things.
anybody have any luck getting it on upgrade for that price??

I have to agree. I called a local radioshack when the Evo 3d came out and was just inquiring about their return policy. I talked to two people there and they said there was no return policy and if you don't like the phone that you are stuck with it unless you want to exchange. I explained that their has to be a 30 return policy of some sort. They both explained that it was not honored if the phone was used at all. Then after pulling my hair out from their stupid statements, I explained no one has such policy. These guys are idiots and the sad part is there were two idiots under the same roof. I thought there was a rule against that. Anyway I called another store and they said there was a return policy but it was only for exchanges.
Price tag
No, Best Buy Mobile , in our local mall , had a $99 price tag on the Photon. Best Buy and Radio Shack aplly the mail in rebates at time of purchase.
The Photon was $106.74 , plus the price of a Zagg shield, out the door.
I also went by Sprint and bought, the dock for the Photon. Great product and well worth the money.

Seems that just in the last hour or so, BestBuy has put up this page:

Looks like I can get to bestbuy, use my bestbuy card, and pre-order after all. It was beginning to seem that Bestbuy was not doing pre-orders.
Good news good news!

I was just about to order from best buy, but I did a web chat with CSR and asked about 50$ gift card. He said that's only in-store. That's fine with me, as I only shop brick and mortar, but thought others may wanna know.

that regular price seems a bit steep. hopefully i can get the discount
what benefits are there to pre ordering with Best Buy? based from past experience, it assures you a phone at launch, but for the same price wouldn't you just pre order with Sprint and get it a couple days earlier(potentially)? unless you have a gift card or something
I know with the OG Evo and pre ordering thru radio shack, the nice part was radio shack processed the 100$ rebate in-store. I didn't have to mail the rebate in and wait 2mo for it in the mail. But, that may not be relevant anymore, as it appears the rebate is pre-processed with online sales.
That said, waiting for rebate in mail can be good, too. With my diamond, I got a rebate for 400 something dollars. Somehow the rebate center thought it was for 4 devices. Nice surprise in the mail, that's for sure.

Hate to say it, but you got ripped off my friend. Or maybe not. For this launch, BB doesn't require the downpayment (at least they didn't for me or anyone else I talked to - might be a regional thing though). All BB preorders get a $50 gift card without the downpayment, which you'll recieve when you purchase the phone. This gift card can then be used towards the cost of the phone - bringing the cost of the phone down to $150 if preordered at BB. Having said that, hopefully you'll still revive the extra $50 gift card when you go in to buy the phone.
Keep things on topic no Flame Wars
i got back from bestbuy.
NO MONEY was given.
they asked if im upgrading, zip, email, name, and printed out a sheet of paper detailing my reserved phone. they'll email me when its there.
they also give you a printout of available accessories for the phone on release date, otter case, n some other chit.
i guess i'll pay for it when it gets there, they said the gift card is given if you trade in your EVO. i was like, nahh. i was one of 2 people @ 2pm. (edit, sounds like bestbuys arent on the same page)
i dont think many people are excited about this phone or know about it.
either way, cool with me, saves me money until it arrives.
i wanted to walk out with that asus transformer prime/or t300
theyre speculating 18th, friday release too.
Same here. Just walked out of best buy. No money exchanged hands. No gift card. Just a paper reservation. Which has the wrong name in it, I noticed halfway home. A diff line/name/number on my family plan. Need to get this sorted out. They were selling Evo 4gs for 99$. I was surprised to see that. Almost got one for my mom for mothers day. But I'm thinking galaxy nexus for her. That way if Evo never gets flash friendly, I'll just trade her phones lol

Well if that's the case, I didn't get screwed over. I just bought myself a gift card. Which I don't really see the point in but at least I didn't have to pay for the whole phone right there.

Do I have to get insurance with BB if I want insurance, or can I still get it elsewhere? Any suggestions?

the original evo 4g release at best buy was a joke.
sprint systems were bogged making activation an hourly issue, bestbuy was allowing later numbered people skip.
i hope this time around its a little more smooth.

mine was down payment. Paid $50 for a giftcard which I could then use to pay down the phone. Wasn't until recently that I read that you also get another $50 giftcard upon activation of the phone. I don't see it as a ripoff though, $50 is pocket change to me.

That's not a very flattering statement. But regardless, I would love some of your pocket change if it is so insignificant to you. Most people would have their day made if they found $50 on the street.
Similar experience at BB. Info given at 6 pm, got my paper, no money exchanged. 2nd in line (woman next to me was 1st), Will receive e-mail when it's in. Will cost 50$ to get the phone assuming im trading in my Evo. Through Sprint it would have cost me around 130$ or more depending on how much value the Evo loses over the next few days. No brainer there.

no deposit (per the email they looked at in the system)
filled out paperwork just like i would on a normal upgrade
got confirmation (email and physical)

I didn't ask about $50 wireless freedom or $50 preorder, but that right there should drive price to $100, then add in $10 Google Wallet and possibly $50+ in trade in.
well done

That's not a very flattering statement. But regardless, I would love some of your pocket change if it is so insignificant to you. Most people would have their day made if they found $50 on the street.

How's that not flattering? Used to be a time when nice cellular phones weren't owned by everyone. I don't necessarily miss that. People have their priorities so far out of whack, it is absurd. If $50 is a lot of money to someone maybe they shouldn't be dropping $4000+ a year on cellular services and its accompanying toys.
Hell I commented on a post earlier about a guy taking no interest financing for 18 months on a sub $500 tablet. A lot of what is wrong with the current economy in the US. People living beyond their means. Feeling entitled. Always having to get the latest and greatest. Saddens me
I bought 2 for $250 shipped no tax. Considered paying for express shipping, but that would have negated my good deal by $40.

I completely agree with your comments about living our of their means. I also agree that this country is messed up that way. I am a teacher in a high school just outside of Chicago, and while 80% of my students are on free or reduced lunch, 100% of them own a cell phone (and about 80% are smartphones from my estimation). I find this to be both disturbing and indicative of our messed up system.
Anyway, I just didn't feel that flaunting the insignificance of x dollar amount was real classy. Maybe it was to make a larger point, to me it came off as very smug. I don't care how rich you are, saving $50 if the option is present should mean something to you, in my opinion.
