[Q] Question for a dev - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

If I have apps that I have moved into the system partition, will they survive a factory reset?
For example I took Facebook, Rom Toolbox pro and Yahoo mail and converted them to system apps using Rom toolbox pro. I checked with root explorer and they are all in the /system/app folder now.
So, If I do a normal factory reset using the option under settings, will those apps be there afterwards?

They should. Factory reset should only wipe data and caches.

Thank you
Thank you very much.

Restore deleted stock sms/mms app

Hello.
Long time ago I delete stock sms app with Root Uninstaller, of course make copy of mms.apk (but not mms.odex). Now I want to restore app, but it doesn't working. I push app to /system/app, change permissions, change owner to root, download mms.odex from internet, delete cache, dalvik cache, and still not working. System doesn't detect app. Root Uninstaller restore app as system, but still not work.
How to fix that? [stock 2.2]

[Q] Titanium Backup apps greyed out on restore

Help,
Found similar topics but no real solution.
Was on Wolf v6s. Backed up all my apps. Went back to stock with SEUS, installed titanium restore and choose batch.
All my apps are greyed out! I can't manually restore them. it just says: What would you like to do? and no buttons to click. They are stored on SD/titaniumbackup
No problems restoring my messages, wifi connections, ...
Please don't tell me that it's lost cause I really need them.
What titanium version do you have? Pro or root? If you have pro can you try root.
If thats not working then go
Settings>Applications>Titanium Backup>and select clear data or cache
If thats still not working, uninstall then install again.

I just have root. Clear cache didn't do anything cause I had to reinstall titanium after full wipe.
Reinstalling also didn't do a thing, cause i just installed it after wipe.
I'm still hoping
Use root explorer or astro file manager. Go to sd files, open titanium folder, and either install from there or cut and paste to data/apps then reboot.

[Q] Weird error

I'm getting a really weird error and I can't figure out how to fix it.
----------------------------------------
The application Google Search (process com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
----------------------------------------
Anyone have any ideas?
sounds like you either had a bad flash, or you restored system data with titanium backup.
back up the stuff you need, go into cwm recovery, and do a wipe data/factory reset. you will have to set everything up again, but this should take care of your force closes.
if you continue to get force closes, then try to re-flash the ROM you are on (after wiping data/factory resetting).
Is there any way to fix this without re-flashing? I spent a ton of time tweaking everything to get what I wanted and would have to re-do everything.
you could try settings > applications > manage applications > all > google search > clear data
i'm far from 100% positive that google search is the process that is force closing... and even if that is the correct process, i'm not sure that this will permanently solve your problem, but i think it is worth a shot. i think this will clear all of the data from your google search widget, which i assume is what you are trying to use when you get the error.
let me know if it works!
Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it a try, but still no luck. Any other ideas?
When are you getting the error, are you using the Google search widget?
Did you try backing up and wiping cache/factory reset as other user suggested? When restoring with TuBu restore MISSING apps only.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
I only get the error when I try using the Google Search function - either with a homescreen widget, or by pressing the hardware search key on the device.
So, what you're suggesting is that I back up my current rom/settings using Titanium Backup, wipe cache / factory reset with CWM, then restore the backup using Titanium, but for missing apps?
That would give me my current setup, but with any missing system apps?
Fix Permissions and wipe cache/dalvik (both in CWM) - if those fail, time to wipe data and restore your apps in TiBu.
Thanks for your suggestion, Entropy. I reset permissions and wiped both caches, but still have the same issue.
I think what is causing this is that I deleted the system app "ApplicationsProvider.apk", which appears to be related to the Google Search app. I previously tried to restore the file manually using Root Explorer and my original backup and I don't think it fully restored.
Could I use Titanium to restore this file if I've never made a backup with Titanium?
If you never backed it up, then you can't restore it. You could do a google search for the .apk, or else you can see if someone on these forums will pull theirs off of their phone and upload it for you. But you're really better off wiping and starting over at this point.
I have that apk from my original CWM backup before I loaded Cyanogen. I tried to restore using Root Explorer, but it doesn't seem like it "took".
It shows up in my system applications area in SystemApp Remover. But, when I try to delete it again using the program I get an error: "Application not found. The application was not found in the list of installed applications."
Any ideas?

Master reset on root

I rooted my photon a while back and removed a few stock apps. If I do a master reset, will these deleted stock apps be restored?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
To make a short story long...I've been having a problem with my launcher freezing up after the screen has been off for several hours or longer (I haven't figured out why yet) and I have SBF'd and done a master reset (Settings, Privacy, Factory Data Reset) in the last day or so.
SBF retained my data and installed apps and restored lost stock apps. And Factory Data Reset, as the name implies, wiped all data and installed apps, but does not appear to have restored the deleted system apps.
If you have used TiBu or an equivalent app to freeze a system app it should return after a factory reset. If you delete them, it does it does just that. When you do a factory reset if you do not wipe and/or format /data, cache, and system there may be traces of your old setup left behind. If you've had issues and leave traces you may still have them after restore.
I'm a MoPho-er
i dont think u can
i deleted some stock apps using root explorer like the default browser and never got it back whenever i did a phone reset. just a question mark

[Q] Contacts keeps crashing

Hey.
I'm on Cyanogen, the newest nightly build, and my contacts had a lot of duplicates and I wanted to get rid of them all, just import the ones I want, so since I can't seem to find a delete all contact thing in the contacts menu I went into Titanium backup and I delete the Contact Storage and now my Contacts menu keeps crashing.
I though it would only get rid of the Contacts in the menu but I seem to of broken it ha ha.
Any way of fixing this?
Cheers
Delete or Wipe?
did you delete contacts storage or just do a wipe data? You'll get FC's if you delete the app since it needs it to store contact data
You'll have to restore the apk from titanium or extract it from your rom and place it in /system/app again if this is the case...
If you did a wipe and it's now freezing, I would try wiping contacts app data as well and reimporting your contacts from a backup and trying again!
Hope this helps..

Hey man thanks for replying. Just uninstalled the contacts storage and now when I click on Contacts it opens and immediately closes like straight away. I have deleted my backup in Titanium backup, how could I just get the Contacts back i don't really want to have to delete all my data again and do another backup. Is there anything I can do? I think in Rom manager I have a backup from earlier just after I came to the newest ROM? Anyway I can extract just the contact thing from that
If I'm reading this correctly, you've got a backup of your current rom?
If that's the case, you could restore contacts and contacts storage app/data with AppExtractor(free app?). AppExtractor is a very handy app which you can use to restore just individual apps or app data(or both) from a NANDROID backup.
I used it to restore my sms and other settings when going from LP7 to LP9
Thanks again, I extracted it and it's on my sd card but what do I do with that now that it's there? Do I just use Astro and click on it to install it or something or do I have to drag it somewhere
EDIT
I just saw you can install them from that folder but now everytime I open contacts I get a android.process.acore has stopped all the time!
Before it would just quit straight away but now it's giving me this error
Usually clearing the cash fixes it but it isn't fixing it this time
I'm not sure what you extracted, can you explain exactly what you did? When using AppExtractor it won't extract to SD, it restores/extracts apps and their data to their place in either /system or /data - So i'm not sure what you mean...
Clear your cache and dalvik cache using CWM recovery, then reboot. See if that helps.
I clicked on Extract APKS and they extracted to some folder on my memory and I could see them all there. I will try erasing the cache now 1 second.
EDIT
Yeah wiped cache and the dalvik cache and still same problem :S
Any suggestions mate?
If nothing important in phone, factory wipe or flash again.
Your contracts are on your gmail aswell, use your PC and fix your contacts there, after that when you sign in on your phone you will get synced with corrected contacts

When you say flash again does that just mean download and install the ROM again?
Can I do that without having to back everything up again and start from scratch? Or do I have to do that?
When I say backup, that means pictures and videos. Not apps.
Yes flash again and wipe.
Wipe means you have to do all again.
