When I try and boot into recovery, the phone simply reboots normally. I have tried reflashing and entering from adb, hboot, and rom manager with the same issue. I am running the latest ClockworkMod version, but NOT the latest update from HTC.
Can anyone help?

Power down completely and take the battery out. Put it back in. While holding the volume down button down, press the power button to turn the phone on and boot into boot loader. Go down to the recovery option by using the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select. If it reboots to your recovery, awesome. That's how you should do it from now on.
If not, I suggest downloading and using 4EXT recovery. It costs money, but not that much, and if you know where to look on the internet you can find it for free. It is the best recovery out there and worth the money. Once installed there should be no problem rebooting into recovery while the phone is on and running or getting to it through the boot loader.
I've tried the power + volume down thing, and it didn't work. I will see if I can flash that recovery. Thanks.

The recovery is probably corrupted. I recommend you download 4ext. It's (In my honest opinion) a pretty good recovery

Fast boot off?
Under settings power.
Makes your phone sleep instead of turn off and can't access recovery.
fastboot reboot recovery or adb reboot recovery.

After installing .21 when I try to enter recovery mode I get this error. My device is unlocked and not rooted.
And the recovery you flashed was?
I get the same error on my prime. I was on .21 and followed the downgrade to .15 unlock and root procedure. The recovery installed is TWRP
Any help please
Try to flash cwm touch, if that worked then flash twrp with it

I've flashed latest cwm through Rom manager and I still get the same error
Try fastboot. A few months back I unlocked too and I flashed normal cwm and I had the same problem. I fixed it by flashing cwm touch. You could also flash any custom kernel with fastboot.

Last resort: reflash recovery with fastboot

Thank you for your response. I tried su and recovery reboot. It did just a basic reboot. I have also tried fastboot pro to no avail. Doesnt seem to matter what I try, all i can do is a basic reboot. no recovery extremely frustrating.

You may have done this correctly, but just in case.....
Volume down + power
Until you see the three lines of text
Immediately release both buttons and press Volume up
Yup, tried it several times. Problem is I never get the three lines of text. Thanks though.

fastboot pro is just another app I assumed would help me boot into recovery mode.
I cant believe I'm the only person to experience this. Any help is appreciated.

I was having the same problem with not being able to boot to recovery, if you are still having the issue this is what fixed it for me-- re-flash ClockworkMod Recovery to the non-touch version (v5.8.2.0) and then do the boot:
Volume down + power
Until you see the three lines of text
Immediately release both buttons and press Volume up
Good luck.
I was simply updating my currently installed ROM and now I'm having an issue where I can't even flash a ROM.
whenever I select the ROM I want to flash, and then slide to "confirm" within TWRP 2.2.0 it just returns to the main menu in TWRP.
I noticed when I try to reboot the system into any mode, it tells me "E:system is not installed - preventing reboot!" in TWRP and just sits there. I have to hold vol down, vol up, and the power button to force a reboot and then it hangs on the white HTC logo screen. I pull the battery and then do vol down + power and I get back into the bootloader and can get into the recovery.
What is going on?
Please help, this is my main phone and currently am unable to figure it out.
Thanks
EDIT: I think I figured it out. I think it was a bad ROM.
I suggest changing your recovery to 4ext recovery

Yeah..... TWRP is a known problem..... I don't even believe there is a Team Win anymore.
Was making a backup in CWM, when the device rebooted and entered a bootloop. Now it just goes to the HTC screen and continues its bootloop, I tried flashing another rom to it and it's doing the same thing. Any ideas?
Hold down the volume down and power button and wait for fifteen flashes. This will take you to the bootloader screen, and from there you can go back to your recovery and try again.

Yeah, tried that. Ended up having to push a new recovery (zarbo's twrp) via fastboot and trying again. Was able to push a new rom, kernel over via adb after that while in recovery. I think my version of CWM was bad, and not properly flashing things. Thanks for replying!
Hi everyone,
I'm having a hard time booting into TWRP after a full shutdown of my phone. If I restart the phone and hold the volume up button, everything works fine, but if I go from a fully powered off state and hold the home, power and volume up buttons I will see the blue text show up at the top that the recovery is booting, then the screen will just go black and not do anything for a few seconds before vibrating and doing a normal reboot.
I rooted and installed TWRP using bhp090808's tool here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301720
I'm am currently still using the stock ROM and I want to get this worked out before I flash a custom.
Thanks.
When rebooting into recovery manually, hold the volume up, home and power buttons. When the phone vibrates, release the power button while continuing to hold the home and volume up buttons. That's the correct manual way to get into recovery.

Having the same issue. Not sure how to resolve, I know with GS3 you can flash recovery VIA ODIN but I obviously didn't want do do the GS3 Clockwork Mod recovery, worried that it may cause more damage.
Holding VOL UP + PWR from a cold boot doesn't work. Black Screen then Reboots again.
I would suggest following this post if you had the same issue.
It will revert you back to stock and you have to root your phone again, it will go back to a usable state, if you are in a soft brick scenario.
Having the same issue. I use different apk's to enter into recovery mode. Or - connect to computer and reboot via adb reboot recovery.

You actually don't need to hold the Home button, works with just volume up and power.
have CWM recovery and can't switch to TWRP
I installed initially installed CWM recovery when I rooted the phone. I then installed TWRP (I thought so anyway) using goo manager and when I boot into recovery mode I still get CWM recovery. Any suggestions as to what I can do to get TWRP to work? I am currently running the CM 10.1 rom.

2.5.0.2 might be the build that I should be using with my phone. Presently I have constant issues with 2.6.0, either the phone getting stuck @ the team win logo causing me to have to battery pull.. Or just rom's not booting.
Hopefully someone has a download link of 2.5.0.2 out there, I'm unable to locate it anywhere. And hopefully it wont break anything if I downgrade.

No problem. I noticed alot of zips people are making are causing problems because of the way they have their updater-script written for flashing recoveries.

Just an FYI...
I'm not using 2.6.0 any longer either but just for those that don't know.
When your phone hangs on the TWRP screen you don't have to pull the battery, you can reboot recovery by holding the volume up and power button at the same time.
Works for me anyway.

I flashed NightmareROM. I found myself do not like it. I decided to flash ArchiDroid (AOSP ROM). I found it required Philz recovery. I flashed it through recovery (CWM). I rebooted to make sure everything is OK. After making Nandroid backup, found myself cannot boot into recovery and cannot boot into download mode after factory reset., but I can boot to system normally. I installed CM installer. It detected my phone, and I was able to boot into download and recovery mode. I can boot into download mode normally. I flashed the latest version of Philz Touch Recovery through Odin. When I want to boot into recovery mode, by pressing the combination, I find myself rebooting normally. When I press the combination, then pressing home + up only after the first reboot, I can boot into recovery. Is there any problem? I did not try to flash something
Change to stock cwm or twrp and test. I'm guessing a recovery problem as I've had this in the past with philz.

Someone flashed it, and he said there is no problem. Could be there is a problem with bootloader?
Bootloader won't be the problem. I use cwm6.0.4.4 and flash any ROM any firmware without issue. Philz is only a recommendations not a must In any ROM/firmware
Flashd TWRP, still having the same problem

Use one of the many apps on Playstore to boot into recovery or use adb. I know PhilZ sometimes can be a bit awkward to get into recovery but the others should be fine.Have you also tried going back to stock and starting again this may solve your problem.
Download and flash cwm 6.0.4.4
Can't help with something I don't use 'twrp'
Question.. Can you boot into recovery or download mode? If not mobile Odin.
And..what ROM are you running now? Are you rooted?

I can boot into download mode normally. I can boot into recovery mode, but I have to press up + home + power, the phone will boot into recovery, but in less than 1 sec it reboot, so I have to press up + home only
That's normal to hold the three button combo or it WONT enter recovery or download mode. Holding the power button alone will just reboot the device as you can see.
