hello there i will try to answer your questions tell me what you do not understand and i try and help.
1.yes there is look here:http://www.mod2xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=11661
2.refer to 1
3.i do not know how to explain this one because i use odin for flashing.
4.open wifi then go to about phone then click software update if there is a latest version available then download and install.
5.to know if you are rooted there should be an app superuser home screen.
6.no its your choice but with rooting you can get cool features here is advantages and disadventages of rooting link:http://droidlessons.com/what-is-rooting-on-android-the-advantages-and-disadvantages/
7.not sure if this will help but refer here:http://www.androidcentral.com/android-z-what-kernel
8.dead phone means you cant turn it on again and it wont do anything, the only way to repair it is send it to the company.to avoid it dont install firmware from other models before flashing make sure its for i9100G and dont use apps like rom manager.
9.never used kies before so i cant help on this.
10.the alternate program for flashing is odin.just put your ophone on download mode then open odin select pda browse for your firmware then start.
hope i answered your question.
I have all the answers for you at : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677819

Have a look at the xda bookmarks link in my sig. In there you can find both official and official branded firmwares. Instructions on how to install are in the 1st post of those threads.
Dear Members'
Sorry for the question but what you mean by non ginger bread firmware on galaxy? The firmwares that i am flashing on it via odin are original stock firmwares downlaoded from samfirmware.... and the latest versions so they are gingerbread. As they are original stock they should be accepted by kies and must let kies to check for new firmwares and install if there is a new one.
Could you please enlight me.
The phone was original and boxed as i bought it , and as i sad it was able to update via kies until i flashed it with new ones from smafirmware.

Kies cannot update a phones firmware for a number of reasons in your case KH3 cannot be updated until ||Kies has a later firmware on its server .
jje
Dear Jjegan;
Thank you very much for the answer , but its seems to be like my explanation was incomplete and not detailed.Kies not mentions that there no update for the current version , it just says sometimes this device can not be updated and sometimes just shows the pda\modem\ version and no more info.
Thanks for help
you would basically need to use a older firmware that completely wipes your phone and return to at least 2.3.3. which kies will recognize and use a official branded firmware.
Kies has not sent out an official upgrade to certain countires that will recognize 2.3.4. It is just starting its roll out, I believe by the end of the year kies will recognize 2.3.4.
Dear CosmicBlue
Thanks for contribution but my previous firmware was 2.3.3 which was also downloaded from samfirmware.com and flashed trough odin , and still was giving an error indicating this device cannot updated via kies , and sometimes was showing the version of the csc modem pda and nothing else , so as you explained normaly in 2.3.3 in must say already latest version ....
I need a version where kies finds the phone and says already latest version and update if finds new release , normally i like to flash via odin but after all flashing all data is wiped and tired to configure eveything again ,and dont want to use backup.
Kind Regards.
you would need to go back to an older version of the firmware say an xkf1 and let kies upgrade it to the latest version which i believe officially is xkg5.
Thank you very much CosmicBlue , could you please guide me from where i shall download the official rom samfirmware.com maybe?
Kind Regards.

Hi,
As far as updates from odin go if you update with a Intratech non-wipe higher version of stock ROM (say XXKH3) from a lower version stock ROM (say XXKF3/G5) the data remains intact. I'm running the non-wipe version but did it when I updated from KF3 to KG5 as i had the same misconception. Somewhere in the forum it is discussed if you revert back to an older version of a ROM then you need to factory reset / wipe the data down.
Cheers
Dear Digifort;
Thanks for the contribution , as you mentioned i was running a full Rom also that wipes all the data , i was not aware that there is a non-wipe version , so now i will download a stock Rom from samfirmware a old one , flash with Odin and connect to kies after will look if it will update to current version.
Kind Regards.

First you stop double posting.
Second, you just turn off the phone, hold the power button till the phone shuts down. After that, you hold the HOME + VOLUME UP + POWER button till the Samsung Logo pops up, then release the POWER button.
When you see the Samsung 3e Recovery screen (TEXT IS BLUE), just select WIPE DATA, RESET PHONE, whatever it is called. Then reboot. You are good to go.

Hi,
Some providers hold back on updating their Android releases (they need time to add their bloatware)... a good was around this is by flashing either a custom rom or a base Samsung one. Flashing is a pretty simple task. I might suggest starting off by reading this thread .... Enjoy
thanks guys for your help.

Hi Frnds,
I am newbie in SGS2 Family i bought Samsung Galaxy S 2 and update my first firmware update with official update 2.3.4.
So my Latest firmware is : PDA:KI4 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC:KH1(DBT)
Now i want to update it with 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 as official firmware is taking to give update on my country and right now i m in india.
I don't know about which Rom m i have and what kernel i m using.
So kindly please please let any friend help me which kernel or rom should i upgrade with so ill be having latest firmware update on my SGS2 mobile.
Please pls help me.
If you updated via KIES, you have the stock Samsung ROM. You can see the kernel in settings -> about.
If you want something that isn't available from KIES, you have to flash a custom ROM, pick one from this list. I think the only one that is 2.3.7 is CM7 (and maybe MIUI), those are AOSP ROMs, a tad different from Samsung ROMs, so I wouldn't advise them for a newbie.
Other than this, please read around the forums, most of the questions were already answered, and no one likes lazy and stupid people asking lazy and stupid questions.

Baseband : I9100XXKI1
Kernel version : [email protected] 143 #2
Build Number : gINGERBREAD XWKI4
Ok ill not go for 2.3.7 but can u pls pls help me from where i can download 2.3.6 kernel which is compatible with my phone as i have (DBT) version German.
Actually there are so many thread i just have confused what to download pls show me one way rest ill findout promise ....
Sorry if i broken any of forum rules.
thanks
At the moment for India there is no official 2.3.6/7 available and if you look at the firmware your phone has you will see that it has a german csc(DBT).The only way to get to what you want is to flash something like KK5 and then a custon ROM with a built-in multi-csc package that contains the csc for your region or one that would at least do the same job.XDA have INU as indias csc although a neighbouring countries csc will quite often do the same job.Seeing as your phone is on a german firmware(DBT) Kies will search for the latest german update unless you want to flash it.

Look in the development section. There you will find the things you want to know. Flashing roms involves risks, so you should start learning what everything means. It will save you a lot of problems.

Why do you want to update when you have just got a new phone ? You will hardly notice much, if anything, by updating. Use your phone as it is for a couple of weeks, find out what you like and what you don't like. In the mean time read about all these threads here regarding rooting, flashing methods, various ROM/themes etc.
Is it really that hard to find?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Everything you need is in that thread. Read read read.

If you dont want to flash a custom ROM you could go to the link below and flash from the "Frankinstein" section at the bottom the KK5 firmware then factory reset your phone, boot to download again and flash the India ODD KF3 CSC from the csc section given at the bottom and then when its done you need to do another factory reset again. This will give you KK5 with your local csc.Thats what I did on KH3 here in Spain to get my csc(FOP).Take into mind that these are not without risks if you dont follow the rules of flashing.A nearby countries csc will also do the job just as well so flashing KK5 and then a custom ROM with a multi csc package is always a go but its your choice.KK5 with the csc flash will be more close to stock looking and custom ROMs bring more mods and themes.

Thanks for the link but I've used CheckFusDownloader to get the firmware. But still not recognized.
English translation from the guy that cannot write according to the forum rules and must be year one at skool .
Your Product Code is under the battery .
Its worth repeating methods of updating .
One official via Kies when an update is available only .Providing your phone presents the correct hidswver codes to match a firmware on the Kies server .
Two join XDA Developers forum and download stock firmware as soon as its released .
As oft repeated mix and match may not work and its rather pointless choose your path for up grades and stick with that method .Probably more time wasted trying to go back to Kies from stock than any other .

Ok so I don't know where else to ask I need help, for some reason after I updated to the latest ICS, I can no longer tether my phone to my computer via usb, Bluetooth, or wifi as a hotspot. I have tried different computers and devices that use wifi and Bluetooth nothing works. So I thought maybe if I reverted back to the original firmware I could get it to work. That is the where I come to a new problem Kies no longer supports software upgrading to my phone after I used Odin to update to ICS.

Have you updated your phone with official ICS firmware through ODIN? Have you checked the drivers are properly installed? I updated my phone having Saudi Arabia gingerbread firmware with ICS India firmware recently..... after seeing your post I checked the USB tethering, it is working fine......below 2 drivers were installed when I started tethering:
1. Samsung Mobile USB composite device
2. Samsung Mobile USB Remote NDIS Network Device
Also, I had same problem with KIES not recognizing my phone, but it was resolved itself after I did a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache (you need to take backup of your data before you do this, as it will wipe all user data like contacts, messages, applications, photo, video etc).
Please check
Thank you for responding, after I posted I kept searching the internet and found a ICS update from last month for my phone, I wiped my phone and gave it an install and so far it seems to be working, this was the 2nd ICS build I found tonight. I am happy it works.

Latest firmware: I9100XXLPW/I9100OXALPW/I9100XXLPW/I9100XXLPW
PDA: I9100XXLPW | CSC: I9100OXALPW | Phone: I9100XXLPW
Version: Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
Build: 5/2/2012 7:27:25 PM
Stock ROM: GT-I9100_ICS_4.0.3_I9100XXLPW_I9100OXALPW_I9100XXLPW
ICS is flowing down through Kies right now to my Skyrocket. The error that the device didn't support upgrading is nothing at all. Just make sure you're on stock.
Woo Hoo!!!!
Your Device's current firmware version is not supported to update FW via KIES..
Hi.. I'm using a galaxy S2 I9100..
My current FW version as shown while connecting to PC via KIES:
PDA: LPT
PHONE: LQ6
CSC: LPA(XEH)
But while checking directly on phone using the code *#1234# everything is appearing as same except the CSC.. Using this code in the phone, my phone is showing the CSC as I9100 XEU LPA.. Means my phone's CSC are not coming same on both.. So, is it the reason that my phone's current FW is not supported to update FW via kies??
If it's so.. Then, how to resolve this problem??
Howdy.
Hoping some one can direct me to a working unbranded firmware for SG2.
I have obtained one listed at Sammobile:
I9100XWLP8_I9100XSALP4_XSA
4.0.3 2012 April I9100XSALP4 Australia
But it is not in english (I think it's polish or something) and just crashes the phone so another working one would be more useful I think.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
Also, assuming a working firmware exists, is it likely that the phone will stop crashing on start up or is something else likely to be causing this problem. Thanks.

1. Wrong forum
2. Flash this firmware, it's the newest unbranded one and contains all the languages.
Thanks for that. I can't find a link on the web page to down load the firmware.
You can get I9100XWLP8/I9100XSALP4/I9100XXLPS/I9100XWLP8 which is unbranded AU stock ICS from Checkfus. Search for the PC version on here/Google. Then choose Android/I9100/Australia GT-I9100LKJXSA in the pulldown boxes. On the left hand side it will populate the product code/PDA/CSC/phone fields, then click 'check firmware'. This will give you the the details I mentioned in the first line.
From there, click 'download' & it will download/decrypt an Odin flashable firmware package you can flash following the usual instructions for flashing firmware with Odin (put the package you download in the PDA section of Odin).
Thanks for that,
Does anyone have a straight link to a download please. I'm not in a position to install software just to obtain a download.
Also can anyone advise why the device boots in to a non english language when loading Australian firmwares.
I have tried about 5 different "Unbranded australian firmwares" and they all boot in some language I can't work out. It's eastern european or something.
The phone must be in out of box state when these firmwares are loaded because it doesn't just boot up like when I first got it. There are a series of what appear to be questions I have to answer before the phone will start up. Then it crashes.
Also does anyone know why it would just crash on a new firmware that apparently eveyone else can use without problems. Is there something else I need to install apart from the firmware?
Do I need a kernel or something else with these firmwares?
Any useful help appreciated. Thanks
Does everyone have to read in those characters in the box before they have to post. I find it very difficult to read whats in the boxes. It takes 5 or 6 attempts before this forum accepts my codes.
I found a web site where you can lookup if there are firmwares available.
I'm not allowed to post it
its the home page for that checkfus program
Unfortunately there are none for Australia. Can anyone suggest a working set of droid OS downloads I can use to get this phone working again please?
Full wipe, flash stock ROM, it will be in English.
There are many stock roms for Australia at Sammobile.
You can also use check fus down loader
I am still trying to get a download for unbranded Aust stock ROM GTI9100. Sammobile does not recognise a search for this phone so maybe they no longer support it. I agree trying to get a simple download without having to join another site or get hit with malware is well nigh impossible it seems.
Hi @trebleguy , install this first .
The ROM contains all languages.
