Common Problem of All X10MP Users: Keyboard - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hello all,
I think that our developers are doing great by making beautiful custom roms for us. But with almost every rom of X10 Mini Pro, many of us have encountered a common problem: The Keyboard Problem
I will explain what exactly the problem is, and request emerging developers to sort the matter out.
Problem 1: With every rom if you are using onscreen qwerty keyboard and suppose suddenly you want to type with slide out physical keyboard, then you will find that all other keys work fine on physical keyboard except Symbol (Sym) key. To make the symbol key work, one has to change the 'input method' to 'default input' and in that case user could not access onscreen qwerty back until he changes the 'input method' again to default one. I mean to say that it is really a big pain every time changing the input method. Please can someone make the qwerty keyboard layout such that it can work onscreen as well as physical one should also work fine (including symbol key). Remove the default input (SE) and make the qwerty one as default with Sym key working on slideout keyboard. Maybe some one can port XMP keyboard to our X10MP but the keys are different in both type so one need to play around the key layout.
Problem 2: Keyboard light never works perfectly (like stock rom) on any rom. I don't know why our developers did not pay attention to this common but serious issue. I know that we have KFIX apk for that but one need to keep it always on and it always runs in background eating our little amount of RAM. Nobody wants that.
Can anyone make a flashable zip so that both the above said problems will be solved (Atleast for MiniCM7).
Thanks in advance.
I hope whoever will solve these issues will get huge number of thanks and appreciation from X10MP community.

for your problem number 2
try folowing this
try copying the lights.mimmi.so or lights.delta so from /system/lib/modules on miniCM7 to this ROM and see if lights work. if this was built from source they're not included by default.
i use a firedroid and had the same problem then i take other rom that has perfect keyboard light rom and put it in my firedroid rom zip. and it works fine now. credit goes to atis112 for the firedroid and x10man for the solution.

Can't find lights.mimmi.so

Hi! Sad to say I couldn't find lights.mimmi.so or lights.delta in the /system/lib/modules folder- it was completely empty, in fact, except for a .placeholder file. I downloaded MiniCM7-2.2.1-robyn.zip, update-FireDroid-2.3-mimmi.zip, and MiniCM7-2.2.0-mimmi.zip . Can you perhaps post the file involved, or point to the right download?
Much appreciated!

Wow, switching back to the default keyboard made everything work perfectly! It means my touchpad KB is dialpad style, but the flip-out KB works perfectly now, lights.mimmi.so by the way was under /system/lib/hw folder. It looks like I don't have to install it though, so long as I'm satisfied with the 3x4 taptouch touch keypad.

Problem 1 :
Can't make comment about this one, since I always use default input method, and never use android keyboard.
Problem 2 :
There are people already trying to fix this issue.
And actually, this issue is not always found in every phone (and ROM)..
I just flashed ArcMiniNxt 6 by Pranaj (sorry if misspelling), and the keyboard light don't have problems at all. At first, even MiniCm7 and MiniCM 9 by nAa doesn't have this issue at all (in my experience, though). As the time goes on (and I install this and that and doing tweaking this and that), then the keyboard starts going haywire. So, it's not fully to ROM and Kernel I guess..

I think problem one was fixed in the latest nightly, as was two with the inclusion of mimmiparts.apk. the files you were looking for are in /system/lib/hw but they won't help.

*Whistle!* Looking forewards to trying it! Currently the nightly builds links at download.cyanogenmod.com are giving 404's though, so no luck there. Thegoogle miniCM repository doesn't host the nightly builds either, but <3 it for information and stable builds. (Sorry folks, I'm not out of newb status yet so can't post external URLs, but I'm working on my post-count!)
<3's to this forum for bringing me successfully through modding my own U20i. Kudos X10man, thank you for the tidbit of info!

I already downloaded like 20 different ones and they all don't work at all. I enabled them and tried to use them in dolphin mini and messaging and by simply holding the keyboard pop up button. It only activates the stock cm7 keyboard. I went into keyboard options and selected the keyboards and when I go to messaging and open keyboard it's the cm7 one. When i press the settings key it only shows the cm7 keyboard...
thanks
You have to long press a text box and choose input method... this is fundamental android options...

Yes, I'm fully aware of that function. However the only method that is allowed is the default keyboard option. Know of a specific keyboard app that is bigger, nicer, ans easier than the stock cm7 keyboard that works on all system apps and dolphin mini?
Thanks
First "Enable" then "Long Press" ...If your phone cant enable more keyboards, you might as well throw it out the window for an iPhone now.
My CM7 has like 5 different working keyboards

Please don't take this the wrong way...
If you download a keyboard.. for example the "Gingerbread Keyboard" from the market, (Which is the one I use and looks much nicer than stock and is resizable to fit your needs). Then you go into the settings menu and enable this keyboard from the Language/Keyboard options menu. Then you go into a text message or something and longpress --> input method.. you WILL see two keyboards there, one Android keyboard, and the other will be your downloaded keyboard...
If you choose the downloaded one, it will systematically
change your keyboard across all apps within android to that one...
This is what I was speaking of... and this WILL do what you are asking...
If this is not clear please let me know..
^^ What a nice guy you are

Just tried downloading gingerbread keyboard. It says package file was not signed correctly. I'll try closing market and try again. I'm running the latest cm7 for the atrix.
Thanks
I installed hackers keyboard and it doesn't show up in the input method list. Trust me i've done this so many countless times on none cm7 roms. Just never tried it in cm7. I believe it will not work. I don't like that comment above where the guy seems frustrated explaining it to me. I already know exactly what to do. I am doing everything 100% correctly. However because of the fault of cm7, will not allow any other input method other than stock to show up in the input method field. Please confirm.

By any chance have you flashed any kernels?
May be that if so...
Also, try reinstalling the rom if it's not too much trouble..
My last time I loaded CM7.. certain widgets would never show up in the widgets list...but after I flashed a second time, it would work.. Its real finicky.

Not frustrated, just *Confused* When you go into "Settings-->Launguage and Keyboard" after you install a new keyboard, do you see your new keyboard there and if so is it checked?
I have never had or heard of this issue, that was my only concern.

Perhaps this one??

Can you send me a screenshot of the setting menu so I can see..
Seriously, trying to help you, am I seem to be only 1 of two, so take it easy my friend
Or just use this APK, its the one I am using right now
(Here was a nice tuturial in the OP here for changing keyboard http://www.spacetimestudios.com/sho...yboard-for-your-qHD-HDPI-MDPI-Android-devices)
I figured out what I was doing wrong. I have to only select 1 keyboard at a time even know it lets u select several at once. Kind of weird. Anyway Gingerbread fixall is pretty damn solid and I like it a lot. Not quite as amazing as the keyboard on Hyperdroid HD2 roms but it's a lot better than stock.
THANKS BRO
BTW - I pulled the latinIME.apk from the Hyperdroid hd2 rom and corrected permissions and I get force closes after reboot. Maybe it's because it's not QHD so it simply won't work. I wonder how easy it would be to port it over? I really love how that hyperdroid hd2 keyboard looks and it's the easiest to use.
Later
I noticed that if the keyboard installs as the same name as a keyboard you already have it will only show one when you long press. I have found that if your third keyboard has a unique name it will show as a third choice ... but I'm glad you got it worked out, I like the qhd one in my last post, it installs as 3vo keyboard and is kinda awesome transparent!

Hehe, I was thinking the same thing, but decided to just download them all and take a look myself. Install is super easy: download, select like any app install, done!
Then just see sublime's post for the instruction on enabling them. Cycling through them all took like 10 seconds.

[Q] Searching for an developer for CyanogenMod 10 Keyboard Mod

Hello.
I hope I post this on the right place now. Sorry for posting it on another place too, but i think this noob question isn't well seen in the other forum
I have an Xperia Pro and now I am using PAC Man rom and CM10. But I am not very happy with the hardware keyboard on both Roms.
So I am searching for an developer who would make an Mod with an Stock Liked Hardware Keyboard. That means, the "Sym" Key should work and insert from "äöüß" shoulkd be easier. In the stock rom I press on the "aous" a moment, pop-up apperas, for german the "aous" are selected automatically, and for further write this letter is inserted automatically. at CM must be confirmed via touch or enter.
The Sym-Key now works, the äöü is one thing of getting used. But is really miss the smilies in the Sym-Menu.
I'd like do it myself, but I don't have the time and for all I don't have knowledge in that.
I think the hole Xperia Pro CM Community would be happy for that. I would pay a little bit for the work.
Regards
Christoph

[Q] 4.2 keyboard on CM10 (FXP149)

Hello! I am the only one, who can't manage to get a working gesture typing 4.2 keyboard on FXP CM10? I flashed several ZIPs and installed APKs but none of them worked with gesture typing. The keyboard itself works perfectly, but the swipe function doesn't want to.
Why don't you download the apps like swype or swiftkey as they might offer the functions you need and also some keyboards support themes so you can apply themes on them...
Hope I helped,
Regards,
Abhinav

After all these tries, I tried swype and swiftkey too. Both of them quite good, but they eat a lot of memory (~30MB) beside the original android keyboard. But now I removed some not too important apps and kept only swype (beta). I will see how it works, thanks.

Yes ofc, I checked, unchecked the gesture typing and reboot several times, nothing. But now I am quite well with this Swype keyboard (except the +30MB ram use). Thanks guys

You can look here for the xperia sx keyboard that also has swipe but I am not sure if it has mdpi support: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33774862&postcount=1404 and the portal has a story on a new swipe keyboard that you may want to try: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/kii-keyboard-offers-free-alternative-to-swype-and-swiftkey/
If you really want the 4.2 keyboard, then pm me and I will send you the one that is working on my device.
Sorry for the previous post about making sure you turned on the features of the keyboard...it is just one of those things that frequently gets over looked
is it possible to compile the 4.2 keyboard from sources or is it a gapp now? if it can be compiled, can it be backported to 4.1?
It's already out there, both for stock and aosp, but i had the same problem with gesture not working. I'm using the xperia s and it works fine. Swipe and swiftkey eat ridiculous amounts of ram and also do random connections, i stopped using them after very little..
I went looking for where I originally downloaded the 4.2 keyboard. It was from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964663
There are 2 zips, one that contains just the apk and that one is working for me on a ST18i, but mrmako777 also has a version in case the apk alone doesn't work and also contains a required lib file. So if the apk alone isn't working, maybe you can try the 2nd zip in his post.
yeah but i would like to compile it from source, and yes, Swipe and swiftkey eat ridiculous amounts of ram.

[Q][Req] stock hardware keyboard funcionality on JB

Hi, Guys.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the original hardware keyboard functionality (e.g. you press the blue button in the left button corner, press 'r' and get the number 1) on Jelly Bean? I've been experimenting a lot with the keychars directory, but I think JB uses a completely different way in processing a hardware keyboard.
So, can any devs maybe help?
Many people believe that the stock SE keyboard app, combined with the hardware keyboard, is the best way to use our phone's capability, so I'd be very greatful if somebody could give me some tips...
P.S.: Please tell me if this maybe belongs in the development section...

Check out the RBAP for MiniCm10, there is a workaround made by allesand, which uses the stock SE keyboard if the hardware keyboard is pulled and a properly working softwarekeyboard for onscreen operations (the stock SE keyboard is almost unusable with the touchscreen on JB).
