Sup everybody. I just did the HTC software update and now I have honeycomb 3.2. I hate the new interface and don't understand why they made such a change to it or don't give you the option to go back to the old interface.
My question is why the hell did they downgrade the sense from a 3.0 to a 1.1 on the honeycomb update? That makes no sense (pardon the pun). Anybody know why this is and is there a way to go back to gingerbread without rooting?
As far as I know Sense 3.0 was for phones running Gingerbread. Sense 1.1 was for tablets running HC. Until the unification of ICS, I guess the Sense UI had 2 development paths, phones & tablets.
Just a guess

I felt the same way. Rooted and downgraded back GB, prior to that I had been updated on HC for a few months. After switching back, I realized that the overall functionality of HC was much better. Using cypher custom Rom on stock kernel, plenty of free memory, quick, give it a try.
Other then that, start learning to cook up your own custom Rom, de sense it how you like. I say this cuz as you may have noticed the View's development is quite starved. We need more contributions.

LOL. Not a chance. They're not going to bother updating the Sense version on the stock 2.1 ROM - it's likely the March OTA, being such a relatively minor update, is the very last official update the Eris will see. And fully working ports of Sense-based 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs have not been able to be made completely working; and I doubt at this point that it will ever happen.
That's what I figured expecially if the thunderbolt isn't getting. Just was wondering because the Eris wasn't getting froyo either but now I'm running gingerbread on it.

Android itself is open source, which allows any devs who want to create their own Android ROMs such as CyanogenMod or pure AOSP to do so. HTC Sense is proprietary and not open source, which makes making versions of it work on devices it wasn't made for much harder.
I like my froyoeris so much i hardly miss sense. it was nice but this phone is far, far better now than before <thank you kaos!> i might have tried one of the froyosense roms but i need to have a camera... cant miss the candid moments with the kids.
I don't miss sense at all. Besides the Widgets was there anything else really special to it?

Well flash I guess? (Sorry I had to, put me at 10 finally!)

I highly doubt it. They don't even think it can be ported to the Dinc in our forums. Sense 3.0 just takes to much space. Might be able to port some of the Widgets and junk though.

Agreed, been running AOSP forever tryed flashing a sense rom couldn't do it.
I'm running CM7 on my HTC Incredible and don't miss Sense at all. In fact, I like not having it. Any chance (short of CM 9) that we'll get a ROM for the Flyer that is purer than what HTC releases?
You could make one your self by taking out seperate HTC apps, such as the launcher and such. THen you could add stock replacements from another ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393904
This Rom has both sense and stock honeycomb launchers. If you default to stock the ui is very much a non sense feel. Less the lock screen

Great. Thanks, folks.

Ok, so I just got my HTC Glacier and was contemplating rooting it to do ICS.
Now on gingerbread, as far as I know, you have to downgrade back to froyo just to get root before you can even begin.
Is it worth the hastle yet?
Would it be more wise to wait for the final ICS version with full camera support and other minor bugs ironed out and also maybe an easier root method not requiring the froyo downgrade?
Is that even planned in the near future? (root from gingerbread)
Go for it. The downgrade isnt tht bad.

hi
for me runs ics on SGA perfect but i dont need the camera. take a look if it is okay for you to live with bugs
I'd wait for better ICS ports, probably till CM9 release. They're quite buggy for now especially on HTC phones.
Downgrading won't be too much of a hassle since you're going to have to wipe your device anyway to flash ICS. The question is whether you mind that the ROMs are still pretty buggy and have missing functions, and that's one you can only answer yourself.
I would go for ICS it is worth it
Yea its ready for prime time

There will not be another root method for the Glacier that will not require downgrading to Froyo. The phone will not get official ICS. The only issue with ICS on the glacier is the camera, but once the CM devs figure that out, the fix well be implemented probably the same day. So even if you don't want to use ICS, you should still downgrade and root to take advantage of the great gingerbread ROM's out for that phone.
Hi there, recently my dad bought a Samsung Galaxy10.1 tablet and wants me to root it. We are both owners of HTC phones (HTC Wildfire S & HTC Rezound) and have grown to like the Sense UI. he has requested that along with the root I install Sense but I dont think this is possible as Sense was not developed for a tablet.
My question is this: Is it possible to put a Sense 3.0/3.5 UI on a Samsung Galaxy10.1? If so, how is it done?
Thanks ahead of time for all responses.
I don't think that's possible yet. If it were possible it'd most likely come in the form of a rom

Yeah that was kinda my thought. Does anyone no if there has been a case where Sense was put on a non-HTC device, though?
nope. not happening bro.
Anyway isn't sense in a way copyright??

Barf....
Try finding a sense like launcher.

Sense is:
1) Extremely difficult to port
2) Developers have little desire to do it anyway since it's incredibly bloated compared to Touchwizz (which isn't so hot either, but it sucks less than Sense) - Although actually, Touchwizz was a slight improvement on HC 3.1 - but it's a step backwards on ICS. CM9 is slick... Even with the intermittent battery life regressions I'm still running it.

As far as I know the only way to get the whole SenseUI is to get the GoLauncherEX theme Then again it's just skin replacement.
I'm using the leaked ICS rom with Sense 3.6. It's great. And I just read an article comparing Sense 3.6 and 4.0. Am I missing something? Other than a few changes, is there really a reason for everyone to be so upset that we (probably) aren't 4.0? Or is it just the principle of the matter? Either way, I am completely happy with 3.6 and the improvements brought by ICS alone.
I'm sorry to say there's no "probably" involved here. The Rezound will not get Sense 4.0 in any official manner because Sense 4.0 "is built to take advantage of the hardware in the One Series handsets and beyond".
I'm a card-carrying Sense hater, but I'm pretty impressed by 4.0. It's been redesigned, and even Newt's beta ROM runs better than 3.6. If this is the future of Sense, then I'll take back what I've said about Sense in the past.
Yea I haven't tried Newt's rom yet bc I just got my Rezound yesterday and am content with the ICS leak until exams are over. FYI, Newt released RC1 today for that rom. The leak is performing pretty well tho, for me at least.
sense 4 will be great once our devs have 100% ironed out all of the bugs..but until then, it's kinda buggy and worse off than 3.6. but i'm pumped for when they're able to fully develop it
I think one of hte biggest advantage with the 4 is its light weight and better integration with ICS. 3.6 seems to still retain some looks and feel of the current version of sense so it still weighed down a little bit in terms of performnace. 4 seems to help with the performance better as there's less overhead needed.

Sadly we will never see Sense 4.0 officially but apparently the new Incredible 4G will be sold with ICS and Sense 4.0...
Kinda wish I had waited to move on from my Thunderbolt now...

I've been trying to unlock bootloader but every time I put in my token code or whatever I never receive the email with the attachment from htcdev, not sure what the issue is.

Finally got unlocked and flashed BAMF Evita, Sense 4.0 is awesome and now I know why everyone wants it. Crazy how so many small changes can make such a big difference.

I've been running BAMF Evita and it is very impressive. I've noticed many improvements in the feel and speed of sense 4.0. Feels very fluid and fast. Been running Evita less than 24 hours and I'm sure as with all roms it will get smoother as it settles in. Must say that Joel is doing great work with this. Looks like the rezound community is going to be a great one with capable devs and many great themers and mods.

I also prefer 4.0 vs 3.6. I have been running BAMFs 2.0 and I love it! Mine settled fast and I have no complaints! I will never go back to 3.6!

I too run Sense 4 and obviously it has a few issues but so did Sense 3.6 when I first had it installed on the Rezound. I remember on my Thunderbolt running Sense 3.5 Based Roms and they had issues but the awesome developers here always seem to iron out the wrinkles. Honestly the only real issue currently is the Bluetooth only connecting to media. I'm on RezRom S4 1.0.1 right now and it has been the smoothest running of the Sense 4 Roms for me to date!
