thanks a little googling and I figured out entropy's kernel works!
I had this problem too. The wifi turns on for a few seconds, then anywhere between 5-20 seconds, turns off again. Found out that the cause is that this method of rooting is not for 2.3.6, but rather 2.3.4.
You have a couple options:
1)Unroot
2)Install a kernel that works(like Siyah's kernel, in the forums)
3)This video explains a second rooting method which actually installs a different kernel that gives you root access as well as re-enables your wifi! You can install this right after you've rooted your phone with the Zedomax method, this simply overrides it. <--This is the option I personally did when I was in your situation.
Answer found, and as correctly pointed out, could have been discovered via a search. I will close this down, and remind people that searching before posting is a rule, and REALLY needs to be followed. This forum would be overrun in a day without people doing their part..

I just got my refurbished phone today and I have tried everything to get the phone to root and it will not. It came with kk6 2.3.6 when I go to use phone and it says set up connection and stays on that forever.
I have tried 3 different usb cables 6 usb ports and 2 different computers. I am using a jig to get into download mode

Don't assume that because you've rooted an android phone before that you necessarily know what you're doing. Every android phone is different, and so the rooting methods may be different. For example, SuperOneClick and Odin One-Clicks are very different things.
Read this very carefully. I suggest reading it twice. And if you plan on doing any more modifications, read, read, do google and xda searches, and read some more.

Try flashing a different kernel. If you are using the zedomax kernel form galaxys2root.com that is your problem.
I had the same problem just do a wipe and redo the flash. Try aokp ROM I moved from shostock to aokp.

No..not zedomax kernal..i tried flashing to stock rom and stock kernal as well..when im in stock 2.3.4 with stock kernal wifi turns on.scans for a few seconds and then switch itself off without finding any wifi network..tried flashing entropy and siah kernals both..both behave the same way that stock does.so i again switched back to shostock v2.There wifi does not turn on at all..icon goes into a light grey(in the settings menu)..thats it and no wifi.

Even if other devices work on your router, you shouldn't count that out. I had a ton of wifi problems on my dinc2 but my desktop and laptop connected to my wifi just fine. I finally rebooted it and it fixed the wifi issues on my phone. Another time all it took was changing the broadcast channel on my router. It's worth a shot since it's easier than sending the phone back.

Good point there. My router is actually on its way out and requires rebooting every now and then for certain devices to connect. I have my phone, laptop, kindle, and a PS3. randomly they will have trouble connecting, but wifi will never turn itself off on my phone
Check this post out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731802
The guy used some app from the play store to fix his WiFi.
ok..im still tryimg to figure out what is causing this issue..
After installing stock 2.3.4 my wifi turns on.Scans for few seconds and turns off by itself. If i enter the menu i get when i dial *#*#4636#*#* during this period and check status
wi-fi state shows enabled
but
Supplicant status shows nothing.
So i thought this issue is probably due to an error in wpa_supplicant file and i replaced it.But still wifi will turn on for a few seconds and turns off by itself.
Also if i enter stock 3e recovery it shows this message.
--Appling Multi-csc...
Installig Multi-csc
can't access to '/system/csc/ATT/system/'.
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
is it due to a problem in a currupted partition..or something like that?if so how can i correct it?i have read that if i flash stock with pit with repartition enabled it will repartition. But also read that it is quite dangerous.
can somebody help me with this...

Hello,
I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to fix my Atrix 4G (AT&T).
I Rooted > Unlocked my Atrix and installed the Touch version of CWM and flashed CM9 and it all seemed perfect.
However it seems all the WiFi drivers are gone.
Trying to turn on WiFi simply makes my Atrix reboot. Trying to use some WiFi tethering tools give back a 'no Wpa supplicant' error.
The phone works perfectly except for the fact it has zero WiFi capability now.
I flashed other ROMs like MIUI, and AOKP to no avail, same issue, no wifi.
I flashed the Stock ATT ROM via a fruitcake thinking it will 'reinstall' my wifi drivers but i was mistaken.
Anyone have any ideas how to get WiFi drivers installed again? Why wouldnt the ROMs have that already?
Bit confused and would appreciate any help.

Bluetooth also doesnt work and causes a reboot too if I attempt to turn it on.
In that case, your wifi/bt chip is likely burnt. Sorry.
There's no fix, this is a hardware problem.

Another moderator? When were you appointed? Next time just 'report' and move on.
Quick question, is it safe to Reflash the cf root kernel again even though I'm rooted, as I have a feeling it may be the cause of the following issue:
Ever since I've rooted, my wifi has been really unstable with holding the connection, and frequently reconnects, even tried the 0011 power save off trick and wifi sleep set to never etc.
Think this may be the issue? Anyone direct me to a wifi working insecure kernel?
Thanks

You can flash any other kernel to get this done.. like Siyah for example
I hope this helps!

Hi,
Has anyone actually found a fix for the connectivity problems on the gt-i9100 I've scoured the threads here but have not found a suitable fix though many people appear to have the same issue. I may of overlooked a fix somewhere but I'm now at the point of giving up and I'm really hoping someone can help resolve this.
Let me start by saying that this is NOT A ROUTER ISSUE as I have the same problem at friends houses', wifi hotspots e.t.c.
My problem/s as follows:
1) Connectivity lost after phone has been in sleep. wifi connection is shown but there is no transfer of data.
2) wifi randomly disconnects and reconnects with a message pop up saying that I am not connected. Again the wifi icon still shows that I am connected.
3)Loss of data transfer while using wifi apps such as viber, facebook, gmail e.t.c. Again the connection icon is still shown.
The 3 issues are appear to be one and the same I just mention them all as some people only mention one of the above symptoms in previous threads.
I'm currently running jellybean but this was also a problem before the upgrade.
I'm will be extremely grateful to anyone who could offer a solution as I use viber a lot due to being out of country and use it to text those at home and I keep having to manually disconnect and reconnect my wifi to ensure I'm getting the messages that are sent to me and it's driving me f#*king crazy.

Ok, there's now a new problem, I rooted my phone using the one click tool supplied by DooMLoRD, no problems phone rooted.
The I flashed the siyah kernel as suggested, using odin3 v3.07, got the green box saying pass when the phone turns on I get as far s the purple and black logo (assuming its the siyah logo) screen goes black nothing happens, I can still access the download and reboot screens but that's all.

Yeah made sure it was for the s2, they are well labeled on the site. Don't think I'm stuck in a boot loop because I can get as far as the siyah logo before the screen goes blank and I have to initiate reboot and download mode myself using the 3 keys.

Id root your phone again. Use chain fires root though. Think the updated one is cf auto root. And flash cwm! A recovery. Make a backup in cwm. Then you can download the siyah zip. And flash it through cwm. If it fails this time you can restore that backup without doing the whole odin process.

Success!!! I tried it with using the same rom and siyah (wasn't keen on changing as it was running very smoothly) only this time with wifi, bluetooth and gps all on. I would never of imagined something so small would make such a difference. I do feel bad now though that my galaxy won't be used to even a fraction of the potential that's now unlocked on it, following instructions, downloading and pushing buttons is easy but after that I'm lost Thanks again, delighted to see the end of that problem, it doesn't say a whole pile for samsungs quality control when they can let phones out onto the market with such a major bug or that they've failed to rectify it with updates. Its made me consider making a move to another manufacturer next time, perhaps back to good old nokia, once the king phones and it looks like there heading back to the throne again.
