Quick question, is it safe to Reflash the cf root kernel again even though I'm rooted, as I have a feeling it may be the cause of the following issue:
Ever since I've rooted, my wifi has been really unstable with holding the connection, and frequently reconnects, even tried the 0011 power save off trick and wifi sleep set to never etc.
Think this may be the issue? Anyone direct me to a wifi working insecure kernel?
Thanks

You can flash any other kernel to get this done.. like Siyah for example
I hope this helps!

my first question to you is:
what mods did you install on the rom?
Not a thing...just recently flashed codeworkzx kernel...then rooted via paulyhoffman zip...unnamed was actually my first rom..I'm no noob as far as flashing via cwm or Odin...that's why I was so confused. I tried flashing it with and without wipe...still had the same issue

Just to make sure I'm not crazy and lost my knowledge of flashing i ended up restoring back to rooted stock then flashed cog777 R3...its been running like a champ...no issues

Use creepyncrawly's root method. I had the same issue and using his root and then Entropy's DD Kernel fixed my problems

thanks a little googling and I figured out entropy's kernel works!
I had this problem too. The wifi turns on for a few seconds, then anywhere between 5-20 seconds, turns off again. Found out that the cause is that this method of rooting is not for 2.3.6, but rather 2.3.4.
You have a couple options:
1)Unroot
2)Install a kernel that works(like Siyah's kernel, in the forums)
3)This video explains a second rooting method which actually installs a different kernel that gives you root access as well as re-enables your wifi! You can install this right after you've rooted your phone with the Zedomax method, this simply overrides it. <--This is the option I personally did when I was in your situation.
Answer found, and as correctly pointed out, could have been discovered via a search. I will close this down, and remind people that searching before posting is a rule, and REALLY needs to be followed. This forum would be overrun in a day without people doing their part..
Ok so I so I have suffered from authentication errors and ridiculously poor WiFi range since I rooted my phone. Or most probably since I flashed a custom Rom (omega) for the first time..
Now, after endless research and lots of trial and error (or as I say, terror) I have finally found a solution. Although this is NOT and ideal solution, it solved my problem. Not being able to use WiFi at work when I'm only around 7 meters from the server is an absolute no no for me! Especially twinned with the frustration of 30 attempts to authenticate and still having 70 odd % signal and yet no connectivity.
So here goes..
For me.. disabling power saving mode via *#0011# did NOT work.
Nor did flashing back to stock without root.
Flashing cm9 did NOT work.
Flashing stock did Not work. And full cwm wipe didn't work either. And all other combinations.
So by hard work, research into other threads, Lots of terror and pure luck. I fixed my problem.
Apologies if this does not work for you.. but if u Have simular problems to me. I'm sure it will work. So follow these steps
1. back up via android. Copy backup to pc if u try this and it doesn't work u cant go back to before. Also backup and apps or pics music etc to pc.
2. Download latest stock Rom with root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704185
Thanks to wanam!
3. full Wipe, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache. Flash latest wanam stock Rom. And repeat the wiping in recovery again. Full, cache and dalvik. Fix permissions.
4. Now reboot. And test if u still have the problem. As I did still. If not... yay you!
5. Do a hard reset. Yes a factory reset. NOT a full wipe via recovery. A reset via settings/backup and wipe/factory personal data reset. WARNING by doing this you will lose all app settings. All android backups and all data on internal storage. I believe this will also leave your ext sd contents unusable so ALWAYS backup to pc!
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 again. This made my WiFi range and connectivity problems
Disappear! Although I still had authentication errors
7.Then repeat step 5 and see your outcome. It's seems for me atleast, that a double wipe was necessary. I'm not sure about you guys.
I hope this works for you all!
Thank me if it did or If I've helped in anyway!
Happy to answer questions! Noob or not.
Thanks to JJE and d4seeker for there effort in trying to help me!

Could you try going to settings/Wi-Fi/advanced(menu key) and set frequency to your frequency and not auto and see if this helps, seemed to help me so very interested in feedback, thanks

OK so I've flashed cm9 and authentication errors are gone. Seems Samsung are at fault with that. Range has stayed good for last few days

I have an old Galaxy S and I run Wifi Analyzer on both (CM9.1 on S and CF rooted stock JB on S III) and boy.... there are more available networks
on S then on new brand super-duper flagship. Is my new phone faulty?
I am seriously pissed.
i have tried the above methods in vain -.- still not resolved
-------------------
what causes this problem anyway? it just all happened randomly
Has anyone found a fix for this yet???
I'm pretty convinced this is to do with router settings personally, but I don't know much about them so.....
The settings for my wifi were already in there from when I was on ACE 4.2.5. I wiped cache, dalvik cache AND did a factory reset. The settings were still there. They are the same settings that worked before. Also, I went to client's offices that have wifi and I got the same problem there too. If it's something to do with the routers, I know a lot of routers that all of the sudden have issues that didn't before THIS ROM update...
Finally fixed my error on the 4th Step.
I though I would never made it , but I did
I had the authentication Wi-Fi error.
Thanks for the Guide.
(I used Omega ROM 50.1 v for this Guide quite same as the Wanam ROM.)
Ever since I installed 4.1.2 XXELLA, I have been having issues with my wifi. It never connects to a wifi access point and I have to keep turning wifi on and off to make it work, and sometimes once I turn off my wifi it reboots my phone. If anyone has a solution I would be most appreciative. If I cant figure this out I am going back to ICS.

Soooo I know that this is probably a pretty frequently posted question, but has anyone been able to get WiFi tethering to work on the stock rooted ROM??
I've scoured the forums here and on other websites, and found a few solutions, but none of them did the trick
I'm using the app WiFi Tether for Root Users that's available on the market.
Things I've tried:
Switching device profile to Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) and (wlan1)
enabling wifi encryption
changing the passphrase
changing the ssid
enabling access control
enabling the quota shutdown limit
enabling mss clamping
enabling the routing fix
So if anyone here has tethering working on the stock rom... it would be sweet if you could let me know exactly what settings you're using
thanks!
Same here, never could get tether to work on my stock rooted. So I gave up on it and just flashed MeanBean Rome b/c it's the closest Rome to stock with tether app built in. And tether worked off the bat. Only thing I had to do was switch to ics/jb/wlan0. Hope this helps some

Cool, I think I may try that... It's my girlfriends phone so I want to try to keep it as stable as possible. Didn't want to flash a custom rom, she is probably gonna be less understanding of minor bugs than I would be
Buuutttt I'll give it a try if no one has been able to get it to work on stock. Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
Yea trust me she will not know that you even flash MeanBean to her phone. If anything gives it away it will be the Power Menu shutdown /restart /recovery /bootloader. And it is very stable I never had any, not even 1 issue since Mike started this rom. And the rom is finished, Mikey said if HTC or Sprint releases a update then he will update MeanBean from 3.09 to newer version.
