Wifi Issues - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I installed 4.1.2 XXELLA, I have been having issues with my wifi. It never connects to a wifi access point and I have to keep turning wifi on and off to make it work, and sometimes once I turn off my wifi it reboots my phone. If anyone has a solution I would be most appreciative. If I cant figure this out I am going back to ICS.

Will Wifi finally work now??

When samsung finally releases the source code to the official froyo update and our Devs make one of their stunning custom roms does this mean my wifi connection will finally work again?? It never worked with any custom rom out there and I tried several. Only with the stock eclair rom would it work. Annoying but luckily I didn't need it often

It might be your router thats the issue. I have never had any trouble connecting to any wifi spots whether it be at my house our anywhere else.

That's what's weird about. I can connect to my router on stock rom. Just did last night. Then flashed bionix(never worked with any rom) and now I can't connect to my router. But the other day I was running nero and was able to connect to mcdonalds free wifi. So now im confused. Its something with the combination of my router and custom roms cuz stock rom works fine.

I have used a dozen different roms and have never once had a wifi problem. I cant imagine what the problem is, but you have one on your side.
Im boggled. I have no clue what to do.

Or if this doesn't work, set up a static ip on your phone: menu>settings>wireless> wifi> press menu softkey> advanced> Check static ip and set it according to your router.

Thanks guys I will try this as soon as I get home and let you know how it goes

The deleting of the two files didn't work for me either. Actually the second file (dhcp_list) wasn't even in my files. Only the first. When I try and connect I don't even get to the 'obtaining ip address'. It just says connecting then says disconnected. It loops saying that. Thanks for the info tho guys

Another wifi issue...
I believe the issue is resolved in SEVERAL other threads.
Search.
[EDIT] Also, what have you done to try and rectify this issue? Did you lick the usb port? How about sniffing the screen? Did you try that? ... Dalvik wipe might help.

Try flashing a different kernel. If you are using the zedomax kernel form galaxys2root.com that is your problem.
I had the same problem just do a wipe and redo the flash. Try aokp ROM I moved from shostock to aokp.

No..not zedomax kernal..i tried flashing to stock rom and stock kernal as well..when im in stock 2.3.4 with stock kernal wifi turns on.scans for a few seconds and then switch itself off without finding any wifi network..tried flashing entropy and siah kernals both..both behave the same way that stock does.so i again switched back to shostock v2.There wifi does not turn on at all..icon goes into a light grey(in the settings menu)..thats it and no wifi.

Do you have any other devices running off your wifi? does it even work?
either your doing something seriously wrong with the flashing proccess, your wifi is broke, or your phone is broke.
Definitely try rebooting your modem/router.

Even if other devices work on your router, you shouldn't count that out. I had a ton of wifi problems on my dinc2 but my desktop and laptop connected to my wifi just fine. I finally rebooted it and it fixed the wifi issues on my phone. Another time all it took was changing the broadcast channel on my router. It's worth a shot since it's easier than sending the phone back.

I have also had problems like this. Have you tried it on other WiFi networks? If it acts the same on other WiFi networks I think you phone's WiFi is dead.

Good point there. My router is actually on its way out and requires rebooting every now and then for certain devices to connect. I have my phone, laptop, kindle, and a PS3. randomly they will have trouble connecting, but wifi will never turn itself off on my phone
Check this post out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731802
The guy used some app from the play store to fix his WiFi.
ok..im still tryimg to figure out what is causing this issue..
After installing stock 2.3.4 my wifi turns on.Scans for few seconds and turns off by itself. If i enter the menu i get when i dial *#*#4636#*#* during this period and check status
wi-fi state shows enabled
but
Supplicant status shows nothing.
So i thought this issue is probably due to an error in wpa_supplicant file and i replaced it.But still wifi will turn on for a few seconds and turns off by itself.
Also if i enter stock 3e recovery it shows this message.
--Appling Multi-csc...
Installig Multi-csc
can't access to '/system/csc/ATT/system/'.
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
is it due to a problem in a currupted partition..or something like that?if so how can i correct it?i have read that if i flash stock with pit with repartition enabled it will repartition. But also read that it is quite dangerous.
can somebody help me with this...
thanx guys for replies.

E/wpa_supplicant( 2198): wlan0: Failed to initialize driver interface
That's what logcat says.also I noticed anything starting with E/ is in red.but I have no idea what that really means.

Is this a known bug in 4.0.3?

same problem here,,,does anybody have a solution for this??
Take a look in my thread, we might be having the same problem, read all the posts and try the different fixes and maybe one of them will work for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796358
I havn't fixed it yet. I'm still trying some stuff but If I get a fix for it I'll update the thread with the fix. If you're not having the same problem just ignore, but you can try the fixes though.
Isn't related to my problem. Mine still works. But it 'crashes' sometimes

Reflash cf root?

Quick question, is it safe to Reflash the cf root kernel again even though I'm rooted, as I have a feeling it may be the cause of the following issue:
Ever since I've rooted, my wifi has been really unstable with holding the connection, and frequently reconnects, even tried the 0011 power save off trick and wifi sleep set to never etc.
Think this may be the issue? Anyone direct me to a wifi working insecure kernel?
Thanks

You can flash any other kernel to get this done.. like Siyah for example
I hope this helps!

[Q] Wi-Fi tethering

Hi, im still running ICS 404 on my S3, i use wifi tethering all the time, ive tried a couple of jellybean roms only to discover that tethering doesnt work, the connection is bugged and laggy and drops constantly, does anyone know a fix for this or a way around this issue.
Have you tried omega (sammy) rom? I was using it from v32 and never had a problem with tethering.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
well thats an option but i do wish to stay JB stock if poss, so if anyone has a fix for the tethering issue please get in touch
I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with stock roms.. I'm not sure which ones you tried but if it works on omega, I'm sure it works on stock. Try the latest LLA firmware?
