[Q] Install recovery without first rooting? - HTC Rezound

Is there a way to install a recovery (i.e. clockworkmod or similar) without first rooting? I am trying to make a backup of my phone before the normal root process apparently will require me to wipe the phone back to factory settings.

Yes you flash recovery first and then root. Download recovery file, place in the same folder as fastboot, reboot to bootloader, plug your phone in to the computer, open a command prompt, navigate to where the recovery image is and use the command fastboot flash recovery (name of file)
I would use amon ra because cwm has issues with the rezound

And you will have to htcdev unlock before doing anything. (I assume you knew this, but I'm just clarifying).

Also rooting does not wipe your phone, unlocking the bootloader does

Oh, well I guess I meant 'unlocking the bootloader', which seems to be a prerequisite to 'root'. Everything is stock for me right now. Is there a way to 'unlock' without wiping, or to make a back up before unlocking?

No. You can use titanium backup for your apps.

Oh yea that's right, titanium is a root application. I stand corrected. You can't backup You have to deal with the wipe

If you can find a temp root method then you can run titanium backup
I'm not sure if your able to do that depending on what firmware you rezound has, you can search rezound temp root
Otherwise you need to unlock your bootloader

just s-off. it doesnt require a wipe of system just of your sd card. them flash a recovery and hboot. its better imo then unlocking and wiping and rooting... just s-off, install recovery and install root BOOM!

I have software version 2.01.605.11
I read about a temp root method, but it did not work on my phone and I later heard that it no longer works in my version. I don't know if there are any newer methods. I couldn't find any.

You must HTC dev unlock and run a rooted custom Rom to s-off
So he will have to wipe data and his internal.sd
Anyway he goes he's going to lose his data

I found this

and it doesn't claim that it will wipe my device. Is this true, or obsolete, or what?
If this is still a dead end, then I will give up and deal with the wipe best I can.

I say S-Off after you Unlock and root. After you complete the S-off it will be Locked, not Relocked

Wait! If you let me use your phone to test an adapted root method (you might end up needing to wipe) I could probably backup your data. I released a method for the One X to do it. However, I would have to adapt their root which I think would work.

Well, I am not willing to physically send the phone to you or anything, but I could try it I suppose, if there was no chance of 'bricking' the phone. I was pretty much ready to do this tonight, I don't want to wait too long.
And yes, I intend to 'S-off' and all that too. I'd like the phone to be in a state similar to my old Incredible, though it seems like it will be a bit more involved of a process than it was back then.
