Really screwed up this time!!! - HTC Rezound

Okay, I'm really counting on you guys this time. I was on latest CM9 kang from Ant and I decided to install clockwork recovery through app. Well, booted into clockwork recovery and didnt like it so I flashed a amonra 3.15 zip in bootloader and now I get this every time I try to do ANYTHING in Amon Ra:
can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkop36
I have wiped everything in wipe options and "format all to ext 3" and "upgrade to ext4". Absolutely nothing works in Amon Ra and my phone wont boot past the white HTC screen (just goes black afterwards). PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would run a RUU and start from scratch. Better safe then sorry.

Start from scratch as in re-devunlock and all that? Do you have a link to the RUU?

Make sure you have the right amon ra 3.15

I've never installed AR with a zip before.. have you tried installing it with the fastboot commands? I don't know much about the error but maybe making sure it was a clean recovery flash would do the trick.
Edit: oh and if you wiped everything you probably would need to adb push an ruu to your device? Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I def have that!

Mmcblk0p36 is your cache. Basically amon ra can't detect that mounting point. If you have terminal emulator we can try to mount your cache that way.

Flashed TWRP and now trying to install viperrez since its the only rom I had and it cant seem to find my nandroids.

If you have ADB installed, try the following:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mmcblk0p36 /cache
Then see if it still gives you that message.
Edited, forgot you couldn't get it to boot lol.

I can't believe it, it looks like TWRP worked! WOW, Didnt see that coming. So now, how do I wind up putting Amon Ra back on safely without all this drama happening again.
P.S. I ran out of thanks to give out but I will come back to this thread and thank all that helped tomorrow. Promise. Sorry, I had a major freak out moment. Achem! Won't happen again.

Why? HTC makes the phone and software for it. Their methods are better than finding hacks and holes in the software to push the things needed for s-off, etc.

I don't see why people are so scared to use the method. Yes you loose your warranty, but honestly how many people have used warranty to fix a phone? I personally have NEVER, but have used insurance 3 times over the last 10 years.

^ Thats why i don't use the HTC Unlock.
S-ON will always be on using HTC's method. I believe it's to keep you from flashing the radio. If I'm correct the only extra thing you can actually flash with htc's unlocker is the system, data and boot partition. Or certain recovery's authorized by HTC can be flashed.

Hmm ill try when I get home. It's not my phone. It's my friends. Hehe mine has been s-off since the day it was released.
Ok so can't flash splash screens. I tried flashing it via fastboot and the zip. When i try in fastboot I get a bootloader signiture error. When i try the zip it starts to parse it but then boots me out. Engine hboot zip did the same thing. While its partially unlocked I think they still locked down some things. Fastboot erase recovery errors out saying not allowed.

[Q] Install recovery without first rooting?

Is there a way to install a recovery (i.e. clockworkmod or similar) without first rooting? I am trying to make a backup of my phone before the normal root process apparently will require me to wipe the phone back to factory settings.

Yes you flash recovery first and then root. Download recovery file, place in the same folder as fastboot, reboot to bootloader, plug your phone in to the computer, open a command prompt, navigate to where the recovery image is and use the command fastboot flash recovery (name of file)
I would use amon ra because cwm has issues with the rezound
And you will have to htcdev unlock before doing anything. (I assume you knew this, but I'm just clarifying).

Also rooting does not wipe your phone, unlocking the bootloader does
Oh, well I guess I meant 'unlocking the bootloader', which seems to be a prerequisite to 'root'. Everything is stock for me right now. Is there a way to 'unlock' without wiping, or to make a back up before unlocking?

Oh yea that's right, titanium is a root application. I stand corrected. You can't backup You have to deal with the wipe
If you can find a temp root method then you can run titanium backup
I'm not sure if your able to do that depending on what firmware you rezound has, you can search rezound temp root
Otherwise you need to unlock your bootloader

just s-off. it doesnt require a wipe of system just of your sd card. them flash a recovery and hboot. its better imo then unlocking and wiping and rooting... just s-off, install recovery and install root BOOM!
I have software version 2.01.605.11
I read about a temp root method, but it did not work on my phone and I later heard that it no longer works in my version. I don't know if there are any newer methods. I couldn't find any.

Wait! If you let me use your phone to test an adapted root method (you might end up needing to wipe) I could probably backup your data. I released a method for the One X to do it. However, I would have to adapt their root which I think would work.

Well, I am not willing to physically send the phone to you or anything, but I could try it I suppose, if there was no chance of 'bricking' the phone. I was pretty much ready to do this tonight, I don't want to wait too long.
And yes, I intend to 'S-off' and all that too. I'd like the phone to be in a state similar to my old Incredible, though it seems like it will be a bit more involved of a process than it was back then.

HELP! rezound took a bath

My wife dropped her rezound in the tub. I did the rice trick, booted into bootloader just fine. When I tried booting to recovery it booted straight to viperrez so I thought all was good. Now when I try to reboot or get to recovery from bootloader it just boot-loops at the splash screen. Can't get to OS.
I tried flashing amon-ra in fastboot, it says"sending recovery" then "FAILED (remote: not allowed)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can I try flashing an RUU?
Also, I can see my device in fastboot but can't find it using "adb devices"

Is it a zip or an exe file? The zip is for flashing in bootloader, the exe you run on your pc.
If you have the global one from Android Police you can rename it to PH98IMG.zip and flash it in bootloader. Here's the link:

Okay, just wanted to let you know that when you run the RUU it goes through the updating twice. It will go through the list you see in hboot and then the screen will go black for a while then it goes back to hboot and goes through updating again. So don't freak out or do anything when it goes black, that's normal.
When it's done it will tell you to reboot.
Thank you, I had forgot about that detail. would've sucked to do a battery pull and F it all up.

I flashed Amon-Ra, it showed as successful but won't let me in to recovery from bootloader. Just starts looping

Try pulling the boot.img from the RUU and flashing it again separately. I think that happened to me too and that fixed it. I don't know if that would keep you from getting into recovery though.
Just read this:

to gain stock you will need to flash the RUU.
from there you can flash and engineering hboot.
then flash a recovery of your choice or fastboot one in.
then flash rom.

Since the phone is s-off you can flash hboot if you want.
Gonna try that tomorrow. Have a 16 hr shift to get through first.

Help me to update to 4.4.2!

I have done a foolish work hence my phone not running beyond the boot screen htc logo. rebooting there itself.
As i was unable to flash the OTApkg.zip, i tried fastboot method. There i stuck with the signature error.
With curiosity i opened the OTApkg.zip and found firmware zip there. I flashed the firmware zip. it went fine in fastboot mode.
(fastboot oem rebootRUU, fastboot flash zip firmware.zip).
after this my phone status as below.
After flashing the latest firmware came with First OTApkg.zip Second OTApkg.zip)

You may be out of luck, due to the process you decided to do.
But out of curiosity, have you tried selecting apply from phone storage?
I don't recall if the stock recovery looks there for the emulated sd/internal storage files or not.
It may be that is the case and it's looking for a physical sd card when you select sd card from the menu.
If that isn't the case or doesn't help, I'm sorry.
Just thought it's worth trying if you haven't.

[How-To] From S-OFF to 100% Stock S-ON [Facepalm/JTAG/RevOne/Moonshine/Rumrunner] and checkout firewater root methodchoose the pertinent parts that apply to you. But remember to stay on 3.06 to be able to root.
After that you can update to whatever you want. (Stock or custom rom)

thanks but Im already on HBOOT 1.57 S-On so I can not downgrade!
I suggest you unlock your phone through fastboot usb. then, you install custom recovery. in that manner you can flash again the KK update

How to unlock the phone through fastboot?
htc dev unlock method is not working anymore.. is there any other unlock method which doesn't need abd and works on fastboot connection?
use rumrunner or moonshine. its your call..
theres no other way. all exploits run through adb and fastboot mode.

Have you tried the ruu in this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49480720
You still have fastboot working, which is all you need for that. Just use the latest ruu posted there and follow the instructions. That should at least get you a usable phone.
After that, if you want to unlock it use firewater s-off. I haven't used it, so I couldn't walk you through it, but the instructions are on the website.
