Is anyone working root for the droid 2 with update 4.5.621? If so, any progress. Can I be any help

Bumpity bump!
Yes, I'm also trying to root my girlfriend's droid 2. We have both been getting iPhone envy (it just works), but since I re-rooted my droid x (after 4.5.621 OTA) she is suddenly getting NEW Droid envy. Seeing how quickly my phone works while rooted has convinced us both that sticking with android and finding newer hardware (a newer android phone) is likely the solution to our android woes.
Any help would be great. I can follow pretty much any directions as long as I don't have to do the coding myself. I suck at coding. Been there, don't want to be there again.
HELP! Damned hardware is becoming antiquated too quickly!
did you try www.unlockroot.com ?

Here's my dilemma, I just went out and bought myself a Motorola milestone x2 which I have through a local provider. I believe this phone is the same if not very similar to the Droid x2. My problem is the fact I got it with the android version 2.3.5 and can't root with any sort of one click root off my computer. The plan is to sbf back to android version 2.2 or 2.3.3 but am not sure if I can use the Droid x2 files contained on this site and don't wanna turn the phone into an expensive paperweight so any input would be great. I've search for earlier versions of the milestone x2 but only can find phones w a slide out keyboard n don't wanna chance it.

have you tried zergRUSH supposed to work on 2.3.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
Yes I have v1-v3 actually. Everything seems to work fine until it gets to the point of writing su and busybox to the phone, claims everything is read only. my phone will restart while the program says I'm rooted but I'm not

you should hop on the irc channel. people there that might be able to help real time... not sure how busy it is tonight though

Can't hurt to try, thanks!

I would try to find specific files for that phone. There seem to be significant differences between the Milestone and the X2. I would check over at androidforums.com, they have a few milestone forums, but nothing for "milestone x2." Can't quite find that phone anywhere actually. I'm almost 100% that the x2 sbf file won't work properly if you flash it on that phone.
Thats odd..I had the choice between this and the htc merge...went with this because of the duel core, 1ghz processor and bigger screen..plus I had some problems with htc phones in the past. I wouldn't have figured this would be so difficult to root

It is not.
Phone info and box both say Milestone x2.
Same specs as the droid x2 as same visual.
I really can't find any info on the phone online..a lil here or a little there with little to no responses about it.
Its very odd
To the op: could you post a screen shot of your system version thru build # on the about phone screen in portrait mode(or post the equivalent)? It could be you could try update.zipping the latest 1.3.413 of 235 found here in the "cheesecake" thread. You would do it from stock recovery and if it let you do it it might be the safest venture. Not recommending it as yet though.
Is this the phone ur refering to http://www.cellcom.com/device.html?id=247&categoryid=1
It looks like a replica of the droid x2 spec wise
Here a pic in the about phone settings

Looks exactly like it!
Looking at it now it seems that this is just a renaming of the phone for smaller service providers.

Well here was to wishful thinking. Thanks for checking.
The phone wont work if he tries to update SBF with the droid x2s.. He wont be able to call n such.... The baseband will change and so will his PRLs....
The update.zip SHOULDN'T work on your device due to needed apk checks... you could try to edit it and remove the kernel flashes... that would be your best bet.
Well I'm hopefully meeting up with someone tomorrow before work who has the same phone and provider whose rooted..will post back with what I can
Sent from my Milestone X2 using XDA App
kool kool man... keep the REFs and Mods seperate till they become tested fully. They should ALL work because none of the mods so far flash the kernel, but still be careful because(TO MY KNOWLEDGE) we don't have a SBF for that phone. And It would suck balls if your baseband n stuff got flashed over.
Just post in the OPs that its for the Milestone x2 and one of the guys will index it for you in the stickies. Also, PM me when you get it rooted, and flash another rom. I need to see if something changes if you dont mind.
Im looking for a Rom that is as similar to stock as possible with WiFi tethering available. I'm doing this for a friend and I don't know much about the droid x2. I am experienced with HTC phones though so I'm not a noob.
Sent from my Sabotaged Droid Incredible 2.
Eclipse is the most stable rom out there with some blur components (stock).
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
If all that you are looking for is the wifi tethering you can simply root and install the .apk
Sent from my cyaned X2
I tried that with stock Rom and it errors out saying the kernel doesn't support it. The phone is stock 2.3.4. I just downloaded CM7.2 for it and am going to install that to the device pretty soon. I have been taking things slow to make sure I do everything correctly because this is much more difficult to do than my droid incredible 2.

You can try that, but that is SO far left from stock ROM since there is no BLUR in it and all the apps are AOSP.
Also, HDMI doesn't work under CM7, so if you still want that, you won't have it. It's still a great ROM and it's pretty darned fast, but it does still have some issues with apps hanging once in awhile. Otherwise, it's not a bad ROM at all, especially since it was just released a few weeks ago.
I don't have much choice considering there aren't any roms that close to stock. I've had experience with CM7 roms so I know some of the issues that will rise with its use. I was trying to avoid using the 2.3.5 sbf and rerooting to use eclipse.

It's as close to stock as you can get without being stock. It is itself a 2.3.4 rom, so if you are on rooted 2.3.4 now then download, flash, reroot and enjoy.

I will have to reroot after I flash it? If so Im not going to be able to do that right now. I'm returning the phone today and I won't have time to take it home to my comp so I can root it again. A link to the page would be nice to if you don't mind.

Try android recovery. Power off, hold down volume and power, then when it says fastboot scroll down to android recovery. Press up, then when you get the triangle hold up and down at the same time.

Just got my hands on a Milestone X2. It came with 2.3.6 already installed. I've been searching for rooting information but most of it topped out at 2.3.4. Any ideas what to do next. I'm already missing apps like adfree lol.
I would try zergrush and/or petes one click root. May not work in that version but can't hurt to try.

We got different Timezones, so maybe some Users, that would help where just sleeping or on the way. Sorry, but we work and sometimes got stuff to do in real Life...glad to hear, you fixed your Problem by yourself.
Learning by doing (& searching) is the best way to keep things in mind > my usual way for new stuff

Hi,
I have a Verizon Droid Razr Maxx which is brand new and at 100% stock. I'll be living in the UK for the next 2 months and I leave this week so I need to upgrade to ICS for the roaming capabilities ASAP.
I've seen a bunch of guides on how to do this without using OTA but many conflict and the threads are full of users who complain about bricking. My last phone was a an HTC Droid Incredible which I rooted. I'm willing to root this, but time is limited and I want to avoid fighting with this and potential errors. Can someone give me a basic step by step (or links).
Thanks.
This is what i successfully used. Didn't have any soft brick issues.

I would also read through the "Update File" post under the general section. Has useful info.
