Hello XDA,
Yesterday I had the bootloader unlocked via HTCDev and used Hasoon2000's HTC Amaze 4G All in one kit to flash TWRP 2.0 and Faux Kernel (reverted back to the Stock Canadian Kernel afterwards). I managed to get it rooted using Zerg Rush. I'm not exactly sure if it started after I rooted or if it was caused by me playing around with swapping Kernels.
Anyway, the problem: In the Camera app (I have tried with other Play Store apps as well), I get a very grainy video feed on the screen. I can take the same good quality pictures as before if I take a snapshot (there are no lines or grains in the picture). If I capture a video, it is grainy and there are lines all over the place. You can barely see what you are recording and the recorded output is just about the same story.
Basically, if I take a still picture, I cannot see what I am capturing but the picture will be captured in good quality. If I record a video, I can't see what I am recording and the recorded playback is just as bad.
I am really sorry if there is a similar thread somewhere. I tried searching but none turned up. Anyway, if you know what I am talking about or have experienced such a problem and know a solution, please help.
Thanks in Advance.
Hey man, just flash something else with it's associated kernel. Make sure you wipe your phone nice and good too in the process. If that doesn't work, try a different rom, and then if you still can't get it to work, my bet would be that it is the phone and not you.

It is all good now
After I managed to S-OFF and then flash the stock RUU, the camera started working like normal. Eventually I found my way into ICS.
Thanks !

Hi. I'm creating this thread because I can't seem to find any solution to this.
HD video recording basically sucks .
No matter what ROM or kernel, when I try to record both 720 and 1080 video, the image keeps stuttering (I think that's the term, but I'm not sure which word I should use to describe this in english) in intervals of a few seconds.
That is, starts working smoothly, then the images start "jumping", then works well again, etc... Like if it recorded at very few FPS at times.
I've thought this could be any number of things. Maybe the phone can't write fast enough on the SD card, but I tried both internal and external, also the external worked fine with my SGS, and also the image behaves exactly the same on both 720 and 1080, and if it was a writing problem 1080 should be worse.
Then I thought "kernel problem"... Exactly the same behaviour on stock, speedmod and siyah. "Schedulers"... the same thing.
I tried on a S2 of a friend. Same terrible recording.
It bugs me that I don't see mny people complaining about this, and seems to be a general problem.
So, is there a solution to this? The first SGS recorded well and the S2 can't? What's up with that?
I do not is the same problem but when start to take a video in 720p the camera begining to blinking. The problem is only in 720p and I have stock version 2.3.4 UHKG7.
That's a weird problem. I haven't bothered with any 1080p recording, but 720p on the stock Camera app at highest bitrate has been smooth as butter. None of the weird stuff you guys are reporting. I guess no one else is complaining because they don't have the same issues?
Can't think of what else you could try other than 1) checking Samsung Apps store for any newer camera firmware or 2) revert to stock ROM, don't install any apps and just run the Camera to see if the issue comes up again. If it does, probably means faulty unit?
You could check this link out from GSMArena.com.It explains about the video capture and the shakiness between the 720 and 1080 being caused by the auto focus and the scaling down of the 8mpx sensor in 1080p mode and the problem of digital noise in 1080p mode. They recomend 720p.

The thing is that I tried to record 720 with another S2, older and from another brand, and behaves exactly the same...
I'll see about that firmware update, and that gsmarena thread. Thanks.
Edit: The updater says I've got the last firmware. Damn...
Edit+: I CAN NOT believe this. I never could record a video without the mentioned problem. All right. I thought I could record a couple to upload here and show the problem.... It didn't happen
I recorded both 720 and 1080 for a minute each, and the problem didn't happen. Nothing has changed since yesterday. I am utterly confused.
i have the same issue what you have did with ??? which camera fw ??? thanks
It happens to me also. I opened a thread here on xda about this problem, but no one answered. I believe it is extremely obvious in lower light, but it can be spotted even outside, in sun. I cannot use 720p/1080p videos, they are terrible. I ordered an usb jig lately, i will take it to warranty and change it.
It is a well known issue! Have a look in the cam thread on here which deals with the red dot and later with the stuttering.
I contacted Samsung about it and they basically said: Send in your device! I only bought it a week ago.
The problem has been known since June and Samsung is giving a sh*t about it and doesn't fix the problem which is said to be a firmware problem.
yes I agree, it just sucks.

As spected the joy didn't last long and the problem returned.
I'll have to buy a jig and start the whining to samsung, then...
I picked up my pre-order Nook Tablet from local B&N store right after work today. But unfortunately after playing with it for a while i began noticing some flickering issue with flash streaming videos (most amazon video and youtube video i tried suffer from the same issue to some degree). I took the NT back to to B&N store and talked with a nook specialist, and we try the same video on 2 other demo NT unit on the counter, and they also have the problem.
We agree that this is most likely an Adobe flash player app issue, and can be taken care off with a software update, but there is no telling how long it will take for B&N to release a software fix. So for now i decided to return the NT before my 14 day refund period.
To see the problem yourself, play this following youtube video in 720p, you should notice the video flickering issue within the first 10 second.
http://youtu.be/5n4V3lGEyG4
The good news is that this issue doesn't affect people who does not use the NT as their streaming video player (i have amazon prime instance videos that i stream alot). I also tested MP4 video directly loaded on to the NT, and it doesn't have the same flicker issue.
So i just want to let you guys know about this issue. I still think the NT is a great upgrade for my NC, but i will be holding off on repurchasing it until either B&N work the issue out, or CM7 come to our device.
Just tested the video you posted, with no issue.
No flicker at all.
Telling you, it's something with that batch of Nooks.
No flicker here at all, but the audio seemed to be just off a tad from the movement in their lips.

Ive seen that in a lot of music videos, thats just the effect they use.. slowed down movements..
Hmmmm, I tried that link from My Nook Tablet and it just stuck at "Loading Video..." before it finally give me an error that said:
"Activity Browser (in application Browser) is not responding."
lol.
You have 14 days, and you returned it within 20 hours?
ok.
Hmm so far DarkDvr seem to be the only person that detected a hint of the flickering i am talking about. I guess I am just super sensitive to the video flickering issue, since that is what I use my NC, and the NT mostly for. There is hope that soon as CM7 hits the NT, this issue will be resolved.
Also hopefully the news about the NT having a locked bootloader is not true. I really like the form factor of the NC and NT, having the "n" button next to the screen make turning the screen on for the NC and NT really convenient. But without CM7, NT is no where as useful as a full tablet as it can be.

I am seeing voice sync issues with YouTube videos as well as Ted Talks. I copied over an MP4 file and that seems to work fine. The voice seems to trail about 3-4 seconds from the video.

So we might actually be dealing with 2 separate problem with the NT building in Flash player (10.3.186). Not a good sign, hopefully B&N will release a firmware upgrade very soon to update the flash player to 11.1, and fix the 1GB user storage space issue.

Yeah the storage is kinda dumb, definitely don't like that. But, easily fixed once we have root.
Regarding flash - seriously, I have no issues with flash at all. Maybe you guys are watching some weirdly buggy flash videos somewhere..
I watched like 6-7 20-40 minute vids on youtube in bed last night - all in 720p HD. I didn't see any flickering or sound problems, it was beautiful and as good as it possibly can be.

Hmm DarkDyr, I remember you commenting on the other thread that you did see some very minor flickering on the Walter Issacson 60 minute interview flash video, or did I misunderstood your comments?

The interview video - yes, there was very minor flickering there, but if you didn't tell me, maybe I wouldn't even have noticed.
Besides, that was the ONLY flash video that I've seen this happen in, so I'm willing to blame the player or that particular video.
I saw it too.. only noticeable in one area of the screen.. near the top of the video.. not noticeable unless it is full screen.. and only on youtube..
netflix looks perfect..
Every flash video that I have watched (YouTube, FOX and ABC) has had about a 2 second delay on the voices. It did not happen on a video that I have uploaded. Like the rest of you I am hoping that an update will be released in the near future and I REALLY hope that development on this thing starts. I love the form factor and the specs, but the device is really disappointing from an out of the box approach.
Mobile flash is quite disappointing.. there's a reason adobe is dropping it.. I've yet to have a good mobile flash experience on any device..

Can you elaborate on that? What makes it so dissapointing? I'm planning on getting one tomorrow.

m.youtube is working fine for me. No delay on any videos that I have seen.
Just fired up amazon instant video in the browser, and I'm definitely seeing some significant flickering, though only on the top part of the video.
Hello XDA. I'm having an odd issue with the camera on my DROID 2. I bought this phone off of Ebay, used, a couple of weeks ago. The very first day I took a picture and it came out very clear. A few days later though, I tried to use the camera again and noticed that the preview screen was out of focus (camera was not in macro mode) before I'd even taken the picture. I pressed lightly on the camera to focus and it was unable to do so. Subsequently, the resulting photos were blurry.
A few days later, the camera was back IN focus and took crystal clear photos! The camera has been doing this out of focus/in focus thing off and on. One day it works, the next day it doesn't. It happens on other camera applications as well, in addition to the stock camera.
Is there an explanation for this? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
My phone is rooted and is running on Gingerbread 2.3.3.

DROID 2 Odd Camera Issue
I wonder if anyone can help.
I'm in the UK where we don't really have the X2, but I have been given one to "play" with.
It's currently got Froyo on it, but I'd like to see if I can put Gingerbread on.
I can't work out if i should use the Droid 2, Droid X Update as detailed in this thread, or if I should not use either
Can anyone please advise me on this.
Any guidance in much appreciated
Thanks
Ian
So I don't know when this issue started, but my camera tends to be blurry. A LOT. I've noticed the issue usually occurs when trying to take a picture/video in low-light conditions. Trying to focus it doesn't help at all. The only thing that seems to (temporarily) fix it is to get out of the camera app, kill the camera via task manager, and start the app again. I think the problem lies within the actual phone, since it occurs on all ROMs, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think.? Have any of you guys experienced this problem as well.?

Seen this same issue on mine and wifes phone. Me meanbean 1.4, her rooted stock ics. Both ours will correct itself just by backing out of the camera and clicking it again. but yes, low light is when it happens.

My phone has a hard time staying focused. I will tap the screen to get it to focus, but I find myself holding my breath trying to be still as possible and I'll still get a slightly blurry pic. And also issues with the sharpness.
But I don't know how to root a phone or do all the stuff that people talk about on this forum site. Is there anything else I can do, or would the ppl at the actual Sprint store know how to get the camera to take better pics without me having to go in and change a bunch of settings every time?
Any help/suggestions would be reallllly appreciated

I recently replaced my broken dev edition (camera was broken- it rattled whenever the phone vibrated) with a T-Mobile edition. I am on complete stock and have not yet unlocked the bootloader. Ive noticed that the camera clicks whenever I launch an app that uses it. Sometimes its a very soft click, and other times its a extremely loud clock, kind of like a snapping noise. I did not see this issue on my dev edition, so I am not entirely sure whether it should be there and because my camera was broken before I didnt hear it, or if I got another faulty device. Does anyone else hear/notice this on their device? Is it maybe fixed in later firmware versions, and only and issue on 1.27.x roms? Thanks in advance.
I believe this is normal it happens to me too on both of my H1's and also my old sensation. It's like the camera sensor is adjusting once some app gains access to it

Alright cool thanks! I was just unsure since my first one didnt have it, but that camera was broken. Wanted to be sure before I unlocked and started flashing, in case I need to replace it again, which would have made me very unhappy.

Mine is very quiet all the time though. I'd say don't worry, but I'm not sure why yours might be inconsistent in the volume?
Interesting. Mine consistently varies in volume.

Hi!
My camera does make the a sound every time I open an camera app, too. However, stock camera app doesn't make the sound as loud, and sometimes there's no click sound when opening stock camera app. Every time I open LineCamera, though, the camera makes a very noticeable click sound.
It's the OIS

Ok guys. I am noticing that when the device vibrates when I am getting a call I can hear the camera rattling on this device as well. It does not rattle all the time like the previous one did. Does anyone else notice this? I can both see and hear the camera rattle.
