[Q] Unable to check for updates. - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hello. I'm rather new to all this, and I installed the Cheesecake app, and now I'm unable to check for updates (I tried uninstalling Cheesecake). The problem I get is when I tap "System Updates" I get the popup:
"Motorola account required
"System updates" is not available
without a Motorola service
account.
Would you like to set up an
account now?
I get 2 choices, Setup and Cancel
Setup only leads to a white screen with a box saying "Communicating with server. Please Wait." and just sits there until I hit home.
Have I screwed up my phone? Is there any fix for this that anyone knows of? I really want to get the OTA update to ICS and this has me really upset, and I really don't want to have to do a factory reset
I'm on a rooted Droid RAZR 2.3.6

Hi,
I did exactly the same s**t lol
Well, to fix mine I had to flash GB back. But a guy told a way u should try before flashing.
He said to setupt default sv (cant remember each one) , press to create proper files and reboot
At each reboot try system update checkr, once you rebooted at least 2 times it will work.
If this dont work, flash stock gb.

Well, I tried a factory restore, because I am not able to figure out how to use fastboot or whatever the hell it is...now when it goes into the communicating with server, it comes up with three options, "Setup a Wi-Fi connection" "Retry with current connection" and "Skip setup for now" and the first two lead right back to the 3 choices...
They are all still after trying to check for updates...
Why must I have done anything with Cheesecake?

The default server is master-blur.svcmot.com in Production I think,
There something I don't understand with that, when I change server with Cheesecake it tell me I'm on sdc100.blurdev.com
But If I push (adb.exe shell "am start -a com.motorola.blur.service.blur.Actions.MotherCloudPicker") it tell me I'm on master-blur.svcmot.com

Did that, but no succes after many reboots...
I alos looked in /system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.service.blur/defaults.xml
changing the master cloud didn't worked...
so I'm still stuck,

If you don't want to think much & have a backup of your phone book, msg & etc.. just do a factory reset..

The guy who told me about this code
Code:
adb.exe shell am start -a com.motorola.blur.service.blur.Actions.MotherCloudPicker
Said to me he uses cwm data restore to fix the sv.
If you didn't a bkp you'll need to flash GB over.

Btw, the dude that helped me figure out this issue is right above this posr
@whirlyeyes
A factory reset didn't worked to me. Dunno why.
Cheers

I forgot to mention. The cheesecake app make some changes to file
/system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.service.blur/defaults.xml
If you have a good nandroid, extract this file & push it back to device.
Another tips, if you don't want to mess up. Don't use cheesecake app.
Do it the manual way.

@whirlyeyes
I did a default.xml bkp its the same to any razr?
If so, thats an idea for an update.zip or an app
"Cheesecake Fix." What u think?
Enviado de meu XT910 usando o Tapatalk 2

It is better to have a cheesecake app makeover.. We're moving to ICS.
It's not very difficult to do it. The original cheesecake only do simple thing.
This is on my to do list.. but I have another priority, so I postponed this.
If I ever do, it will be an added function to my MotoWatcher app.

Well, I just finished a stock ROM flash, and I still have all my music and pictures and such, was able to get the apps back from Google Play in my web browser for easier installation of it all.
Oh yeah, another problem I did have was that whenever I opened any app, an error saying that the homescreen crashed...this was after my first factory restore, so...thanks for the link to the Fastboot tutorial!

[Q] Web browsing issue: The page contains too many server redirects.

This is soooo annoying, does anyone here get this error on some websites while browsing using the default shipped Android 2.2 browser?
Andriod browser dialog box mesg:
"Data connectivity problem
The page contains too many server redirects."
Example: http://www.yelp.com just does not work for me.
I am not sure if this is only happening to build 315 Dell Streaks. I did read somewhere else that going to build 318 fixes it, but I'd like to know how to fix this on 315 without going to 318.
Thanks in advance!

I get the same thing on stock 2.2 I have yet to figure out what it means or how to fix it.
You don't even have to root your phone to install baseband 318. As long as you are on baseband 305, 309, or 315 you won't even have to connect it to your computer.
Download (here is a Dell page with the link) the 318 file with your phone or with your computer and copy to the root of your SD Card. Browse to it with a file browser (you can use Quick Office) and tap on it.
If it doesn't do anything (if it does you'll be taken through the upgrade process) then rename the file to update.pkg.
Turn your phone off. Press the power button to turn your phone on and as soon as the LEDs light up hold BOTH volume buttons down. The phone will go into recovery mode. Use the volume controls to highlight the choice to install update.pkg and then press the camera button to select it.
The 318 update will be installed and your phone will reboot.
I believe that the second method will wipe your settings, so you'll have to set up your accounts and re-install your apps. When I did this I did a factory reset first so that I was doing the equivalent of a fresh install.
That's it - no drivers to install, no cables to connect (unless you copy the file to your phone with the cable), and you are technically running a stock phone.
This will not work if you have installed a custom recovery, you need a stock recovery on your phone to use an update.pkg. So this is perfect for those who don't want to mod their phone. You won't be able to tell the difference except that the redirect bug is gone.

DELL released a fix for this problem months ago on http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/t/19353639.aspx
Download this file http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg from the Streak's web browser, and then follow the instructions to apply the update.
I tried both ways listed here, unable to update.

Can you be more specific as to what happen when you try to upgrade? I just did the upgrade last night and did encounter a few problem myself but I got it done at the end so maybe I can be of help if you can be a little more specific about the problem.
Btw I'm on stock 318 update from above link and server re direct problem is gone
Worked like a charm, Thank you. All I did was download the file from my phone, then when it finished downloading I clicked on it from the notification bar and a menu poped up asking me to update and so I did. Now I no longer have that error poping up.

[Q] Help! freezed Motoblur HOME and no other launcher

Dear all,
This is the first time I have use an android device, and I have search many forums with no solution. So, thanks for everyone's time in helping me out.
1) I have root the Atrix.
2) I install Bloat Freezer from the market.
3) Install GoLauncher from market.
4) I freeze the 'home' app or system process (I'm not sure what term to use) using the bloat freezer.
Everything was fine. Untill, I decided to give this phone to my sister and from the phone instruction, I need to erase everything to factory default in order to get rid of my market account (no sure if this is the only option, but that's what the phone reflect when I try to delete my account). then, I
1) go the settings > privacy and run the reset factory default.
2) Did not defrost the 'home' app.
After the phone get back to factory default, I manage to get back to the initial stage of Motoblur setup. After setting up, the funny thing comes. There is only blank screen with a notification bar and nothing else. The lockscreen still works and double tap on the home button startup browser and hold on the search button goes to voice command. So I think the phone works, but without the GUI.
My so call solution,
The bloat freezer developer is very nice to send me an apk to defrost everything I had freeze. So,
1) I need to install the apk without the GUI. ( I found a way which not sure if works, by using a software to sideload using PC.
2) Using a Update.zip to install the apk (which I seriously don't know how to do it as I am just starting to use android)
3) Any way to defrost using adb (which also requires USB debugging enable).
Problem: I can only do it with USB debugging enable. Which is impossible as the phone is freshly reset and I cannot enable the USB debugging using the phone without a GUI.
Help:
Is there anyone who knows how to enable the USB debugging without using the phone?
Or direct me to settings using any shortcuts?
Or any other solutions? Flashing the sbf is my last resort.
Hope my explanation of my problem is clear and thanks to everyone who has view this thread and try to help me or give me suggestion.
Flash a fresh sbf, instructions and files are in the dev forum, I'd give you a link if I wasn't on my phone

Thank you for your advise. I saw the thread in flashing sbf. but this is my last resort or is this my only option? I really hope not. First time using android, flashing sbf is kind of a big step for me
wait!!1 don't flash!!! hold down home button to bring up latest apps and click on blotware freezer and unfreeze it

Unfortuanately, I reset to factory default makes the app not there anymore. So the only to defrost is the apk from the Bloatware freezer developer.
If you already did a reset and you don't have anything on the phone I would just do the sbf since you don't have anything to lose.

In the future (hopefully it won't happen again) you can log into your market account on a computer and download any old launcher. It will be pushed to your phone and from there you can then unfreeze your prefered launcher and swith back to it.

I have the same problem, only early stage.
I just rooted my phone, for the first time, installed Bloat Freezer, Froze Moto Blur HOME which has caused an error which I can’t get passed to fix and unfreeze.
The error states Sorry, the application home process has stopped working. Please try again. Force Close.
So, what is the easiest way to fix this without going too far down the rabbit hole?
That said my disgust with Moto Blur has got me this far, I’m sure it could take me further.
Thanks for your help.

Desktop not starting

Hi,
when I reset my Optimus One with VolDown, Power + Home something got messed up and I received a phone where the desktop is not starting any longer.
After the above reset the setup screen appears where I can choose my language etc, but at the last step I get a force close message for the Setup Wizard every single time. When I then force close, the screen goes dark except for the status bar on the top.
After a while the phone autolocks and I can see the lock screen with moving grass and time etc. When I unlock, again the black screen with only the status bar on top.
The phone receives SMS messages and calls and shows the appropriate screen, just no desktop to choose any apps to start. I can even long press home and then get the recent apps screen with no apps to start.
Can someone help me to get my phone functional again?
Thanks.
Binser
seems like problem with your launcher app. use adb push command to push new launcher in your phone.
no debug

Yes that would be a good idea if I could enable USB debug. But I cannot get to the settings where I could enable USB debug, therefore ADB push is not a possible option for me.
u can log into your google account on desktop and install any launcher app from playstore , it will automatically get installed on your cell if your data is on.

Thanks again for ur input: But the VolDown Menu Power thing did a complete reset and therefore the phone is completely virgin, i.e. no google account is set-up.
While during initial boot the setup wizard comes up, I get the error message:
"The application Setup Wizard (process.com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
So I cannot setup a google account for this phone.
u may be able to go to contacts screen while on call. there u will have an option to add google account. try this n if this doesn't work try resetting your phone again.
Thank you! That did it! I called myself with another phone and during the call via the menu button I was able to go into the account section and add an account. Then the play store updated (some time is needed for registration to take hold on the play store web site) and then I installed the Go launcher via web install.
After I got access to the launcher, I immediately activated USB debugging in Settings > Application Settings > Development and also install from unknnown sources in Application Settings.
I wrote these details so that people with the same problem of corrupted launcher or setup wizard know what to do.
BTW before I tried numerous phone resets but none solved the problem.
Now I still have the following problem: To root a reset is suggested to have a clean file system. A reset however again gives me the above problem. How can I break that vicious cycle?
Again, thanks a million for your help.

Binser

No need of reset or so, just root and install clockworkmod recovery via ROM manager app, choose optimus 1 old baseband even if u r on new coz the recovery for old baseband is much more stable.
NOTE:-
do not choose to boot into recovery from ROM manager,u might end up at emergency mode. instead use the key combo to enter into recovery.
don't choose to factory reset from phone menu once u have installed custom recovery, instead do that from recovery.
Thanks, hephappy's ICS CM9 is running well now.
There is only one problem, possibly because I did not get your advice about old baseband in time: Cannot make or receive calls/texts, but I am being asked for SIM PIN and the phone shows the carrier ID in notifications.
My phone has the 20d baseband - is that the problem? Do I need to upgrade to 20g or would that not matter?
Regards,
Binser
OK, I flashed the 20G baseband and the problems are now history. I can make an receive calls.
There was a problem when flashing: The phone did not reboot into recovery mode. I had to do that manually and disable the LG modem. Then when the process was done I the phone showed 20G baseband, but no IMEI and network. I solved that by using the saved NV2 file in a subdirectory of the LGMDP.exe and the NV Restore button on the program icon bar.
Now everything is fine.
Again, thank you for your help.

Play Store is part of google apps
you delete all google apps , and you remove play store
so... btw why you want to remove GAPPS
people that wipe they phones and install custom ROMS , they install GAPPS afterwards
bloatware like metro own crap and tmobile are fine to remove
but why you want to erase the google apps
????
Just wondering what you want to do
How can you use you Google android phone when you uninstalled Google apps. Your gmail login is used for YouTube too and guess what....you removed your ability to log into your phone.
