Hi!
I have a Samsung Fascinate (SCH-I500) which i bought from Reliance (India). The phone came with 2.1 eclair and i upgraded to Froyo (EH19) using the official release that i found on the forum. Later on, i odined the red recovery & then flashed geewiz 2.8 system & kernel edify version using CWM. Everything was working fine. Next i tried to install AOKP M5 ICS Rom but noticed i was not able to get 1x/3G Data in spite of flashing the data fix files for ICS. So i Odined EH19 (Froyo) again to go back to stock. Now here is where the problem started:
Whenever i am trying to upgrade to geewiz 2.8 edify again, I am getting this message
Restoring data...
Restoring datadata...
E:cant mount /dev/block/stl10
(file exists)
Error Mounting /datadata/!
Skipping format...
E:Cant mount /dev/block/stl10
(file exists)
Cant Mount datadata/!
And then the phone does not boot beyond the Verizon wireless screen.
Please help me get out of this situation. I know i have written a long story nut i just wanted you all to know where i was before this problem started.
Also note that I am not able to Odin any other radio other than that of Official Reliance(my carrier). Is this kind of some locking done on the phone by my carrier? Can it be removed so that i can odin a better radio like eh03 or FC27?
Looks like you are missing some steps from what you have written. Check out droidstyles guide that is here in the fascinate. Follow the instructions.

I had followed the guide as it is. I just replaced the EH 03 stock rom with the EH 19 STOCK rom from our local carrier ie Reliance

Format Your MicroSD
Just a guess here, but maybe try formatting your MicroSD card?
And also, did you try to flash GeeWiz immidiately after restoring to stock?
I odined stock rom. Booted the phone completely. Switched off. Restarted in recovery and then flashed geewiz rom and kernel.
As of now, nor tried formatting the SD card. Will try it and let you know

As per your steps above, I don't see where you flashed cwm recovery after flashing stock rom, so that would explain you not being able to flash anything else. Maybe you did, but the steps you listed that you did leave out important steps in each of your posts. Like I said maybe you didn't miss steps but what your wrote is different then. Hope this helps you catch your mistake maybe. Good luck

Here is the process i followed in detail:
Started with EH19 rom (froyo) with EH19 radio
Copied GeeWiz 2.8 ROM (EDIFY Update-Zip) &GeeWiz 2.8 Kernel (EDIFY Update-Zip) to root of sd card.
Odined RED RECOVERY 2.5.1.x
Shut down phone.
Started phone in recovery using 3 finger.
Wiped data & cache
Installed Geewiz rom & then kernel
Rebooted the phone (using recovery)
Phone booted completely. Gingerbread install was successful.
GB to ICS
I copied all necessary file for moving up to ICS. (AOKP M5 ) ie
teamhacksung_fascinatemtd-ota-eng.BUILD1
cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN
aokp_fascinatemtd_Milestone-5-Glitched-2012-04-29-08_44
gapps-ics-20120422-signed
Data_fix_ISC
Odined CWM
Rebooted phone to CWM recovery
Installed THS
Rebooted completely
From Phone menu, rebooted to recovery
Installed AOKP, then gapps & then Data fix files
Rebooted
ICS installed properly but without 1x/3G Data
So flashed data fix files again but data still dint work
So decided to move back to Froyo
ICS to froyo
Shut down phone.
Went into download mode
Odined EH19 rom with Atlas Partition 2.2
Switched on Phone
Phone showed some errors in erasing data & formating data.
But still booted up & am able to use the phone normally.
Next i tried to install Geewiz again
Odined RED RECOVERY 2.5.1.x
Shut down phone.
Started phone in recovery using 3 finger.
Wiped data & cache
Installed Geewiz rom & then kernel
Rebooted the phone (using recovery)
Phone displayed the following message
Restoring data...
Restoring datadata...
E:cant mount /dev/block/stl10
(file exists)
Error Mounting /datadata/!
Skipping format...
E:Cant mount /dev/block/stl10
(file exists)
Cant Mount datadata/!
I think this is what i have done till now. Dont think i have missed writting any steps now. Pls check & tell me where i went wrong.
Try a different recovery.
I have seen errors of this type before, and they are generally fixed by using a different recovery. Try TWRP. And by the way, I think the reason you didn't have data in ICS is that your data fix for android 2.x is incompatible with android 4.x.
I don't see where you rebooted after installing aokp and then went back into recovery from the menu and installed gapps and then rebooted to aokp and signed in to your Google account

I was running the latest CM7 nightly for a while (release 116). I decided to give CM9 a try. I wanted to go back to CM7 so I tried flashing back but something went wrong. I had backup so I tried restoring that in CWM but it gave me a checksum error.
So I tried out the vanilla ICS 4.0.3 (KP8) build using odin. Used it for a bit and then decided to go back to CM7. I flashed to my original OS using ODIN, rooted the phone. Now, whenever I try to flash anything in CWM, it installs but then just goes into a endless boot sequences. Tried flashing MIUI and CM7 with no luck.
I'm on a rooted KI3 release atm.
How can I completely wipe my phone? I've reformatted my external and usb storage with no luck.

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Root with same CWM as backup .
Boot recovery restore backup .

Thanks! Following the processes. Wasn't able to unmount SD card to format it but /data /system and /cache formatted fine. *crosses fingers*
going to use a freshly downloaded copy of CM7 nightly too incase my old zip got corrupted somehow.
I can install my stock firmware and root it with odin.
But, once I try to install Rom Manager and update CWM recovery things start going wrong. It reboots into the regular android recovery console and fails to install the update.
But, if I battery pull and boot into recovery it boots into CWM recovery 4.0.0.5. I can apply the update.zip ROM manager downloaded. But, then when I try to flash anything it doesn't install properly and I get stuck in an endless boot loop. Can't even boot into recovery. Have to start all over again with ODIN.
Rom Manager is causing you grief.
Had a similar thing happen a while back. I wouldn't use it at all if I were you and stick to using CW Recovery. I don't know the why/how/wherefore, I just know that time I tried to use it, it broke recovery & put me in a bootloop same as you.
does anyone know about cwm? having some weird /cache issues... reminiscent of the eMMC problems on the HTC desire. Any help would be appreciated! (i use infectedrom nightlys, my restored version loads fine, latest version does NOT, and presents the issues below...)
I downloaded, wiped like normal, flashed... and then got a list of CWM errors... cannot mount /cache/recovery/xxxxxxxxx (5 of them). cannot open either.
mount /command
mound /log
open /log
mount /last_log
open /last_log
any ideas on what to do??
****edit***** so I restored. worked great. downloaded a new copy of r194. md5 match check. matched. wiped data/factory reset (passed on cache wipe option thinking maybe it would prevent this error)... seemed to flash okay. no /cache mounting error message after flashing. rebooted system. now my phone is stuck on the initial "htc" white loading screen that pops up first when booting. been stuck like this for around 5 minutes. normally a new flash loads much faster than this. battery pull. rebooted to recovery. same error message.
cwm3.1.0.2. been working for a couple months now. dunno what to do. restoring last working version until i figure out what to do. help plz!
Afaik, CWM 5.0.2.1 is the latest version. Maybe you must update that to flash the new ROM.
Maybe restore a working setup, and in ROM Manager, update CWM via the first option @ top of list in ROM Manager. Flash it (CWM Recovery) a couple times.
Also, in ROM Manager, menu, settings, erase recovery s/b checked.
Then make a backup of the working setup with the new cwm version, then do full wipe : factory reset, cache, dalvik, and system (in advanced) then flash new ROM.
There's this also :

haha! thank you. had to use rommanager and update CWM. flashed like a charm after i updated. thanks!!
So I hate starting a new thread, but after searching for a day I have not been able to fix this issue.
I was running UnNamed v2.1.1 and wanted to update to the newest version. Following the instructions, I booted into CWM, wiped data/factory reset, installed the zip from my sd and rebooted. It worked fine, but I lost all my contacts which were on my SIM card (I was dumb and didn't back them up).
When I had previously updated I still had my contacts so I figured they should still be there. In an effort to find them I booted into CWM mode again and installed CM9 Nightly from my zip card. Again it booted fine, but still no contacts. I decided to go back again to UnNamed (wasn't a fan of CM9) and then I ran into issues.
My phone got stuck in the boot animation screen. I waited 20 min and nothing. Then I followed creepyncrawly's guide for returning to stock. My computer said "PASS" but when it rebooted it said "failed to mount /data (Unknown error: 0)". I turned off the phone and tried again and it seemed to work, but now my phone is still stuck in boot animation screen.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Reflash stock rom through Odin. But I would flash a cwm kernel through Odin, boot into recovery, and flash a rom.

Don't know what is installed with cm9, or if flashing cm9 repartitions, but you can find bootloaders, param.lfs and PIT and complete stock UCKH7 packages in the Download Repository linked in my signature.
Troubleshooting without enough information is only a shot in the dark. I often see problems with param.lfs associated with boot loop. Your error message not being able to mount /data partition suggests PIT. Just some thoughts to start you on the way.
Finally fixed, thanks for the suggestions. After flashing the stock rom in Odin it still wasn't working. I was wiping factory/data before flashing, but for some reason when I wiped after flashing it worked fine.
I'm running TWRP v2.3.0.1 and I've been having a lot of trouble the past few days trying to flash roms. I was on a stock rooted evo lte with s-on two days ago.
I decided to try out the cm 10 and used flash image gui to flash the boot and then was on cm 10. Decided that I wanted a more stable rom (gps wasn't working) So i went back and restored my original backup of my stock rooted evo. However, the wifi is not working (all it says is wifi - error, won't turn on). So i did a little research and thought maybe something with switching back and forth between kernels went wrong. I'll try to flash a sense based rom the same way i did cm 10. At this point i try to make another backup just incase and its going through everything in twrp and in the end it says backup failed. So i figure well the orignal backup I have is fine and continue
So i open meanrom up in flash image gui it does its thing (clear dalvik, cache). Reboot into recovery go to install meanrom and get the following:
"-mean rom logo-
Formatting and mounting partition...
e:error in /sdcard/meanrom-ics-v48-jewel-ltevo.zip
(status 1)
error flashing zip '/sdcard/meanrom-ics-v48-jewel-ltevo.zip'
updating partition details"
and twrp says FAILED, at this point i'm thinking maybe a bad download i'll try another rom/download
So at this point i restore my system and once again wifi is not working and try the same using freshrom. flash image gui, clear cache, etc. Reboot into recovery and gives me the same error and says failed.
So now i'm stuck on a stock rom backup that worked fine when i orginally backed it up but now wifi has an error? doesn't make any sense to me and i'm not sure why i'm unable to flash and roms or create new backups
Try flashing TWRP 2.2.2.0 in fastboot
i was able to fix wifi using vel7wil advice in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900759&highlight=wifi+error so for now everything is working on my backup. I'll see if i'm still having issues flashing roms now.
I have a sch-i500 that is rooted with cwm working.
I am very interested in running liquid smooth v 2.9 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245120
so I did a format, wiped the cache and davlik. when I installed the zip from external sd card the phone immediately gave me a screen for CWM v 6.0.3.3.
I can still navigate and restore old back ups but the phone does not go past the Samsung logo on the boot screen. Any advice is appreciated.
I was previously running stock 2.3.5 E09 if that helps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746
seems to be the best way for me to recover from this (looks like I flashed a non voodoo rom without removing voodoo) but I am unable to get the phone into download mode with or without the battery in the phone.
please help......(update) Alright, I am a moron. needed to have a powered usb port. on my way to recovery. thanks for having all this great info in one place.

Oh so close.
When coming from 2.3.x ROM you will need to flash the rom (liquid: or other 4.2.x) you will need to flash 2 more times...
The 1st flash get you into the new recovery only,,, as you found out.
2nd flash will pop up with an error message about incompatible partition and telling you to re-flash again,,,
So 3rd flash actually installs your new ROM
Then install a current/compatible Google gapps
.
Enjoy
.
Thank you, I am getting closer.
still on the second and third flash of the rom I get a satus 7 error which I think is a bootloader issue.
I have flashed the GBbootloader.tar through odid to no avail and am following Section:4 How to flash any ICS 4.0.x & 4.x.x JellyBean based rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
anythoughts?

what does the error say besides status 7?
did you odin the CWM4 fixed for cm7 then install the ROM 3 times?
can you get a pic up for us to see?
just to be sure......using odin, I repartitioned with the pit, and flashed a E03 rom. rebooted the phone fine.
flashed the CWM4 fix for 7 and redid the GB bootloaders as well.
went into recovery and factory reset, wiped cache, and dalvik.
installed liquid-JB-v2.7-Official-fascinatemtd.zip this time first time took me directly to clockwork where I flashed again. prompted with install from sdcard complete. repeated and got same message.
factory reset, wipe, wipe and flashed gapps. Everything seems to have worked this time with the v2.7Official instead of 2.9. I will play with this for just a bit and probably try it again tonight with a fresh downloaded copy of v2.9. I really do appreciate your assistance and help and I would not have gotten this far without the forum.
update:
flawless installation of v2.9 since 2.7 was already installed. (installed via cloclwork mod recovery)
It was most likely an operator error that prevented me from installing 2.9 after E03. But I don't see the benefit of going back to recreate why it didn't work. Thanks again all is good and right.
