I have received some requests for the method that I use to ODEX my ROM's..
So here it is. Download
[DEV] in title because I will not be providing support or answering noob-ish questions (not arrogance, but i do not want noobs to mess up their phones without knowing how to fix it)
Please note that official ICS 4.0.4 already has odexed framework BOOTCLASSPATH files, which saves 20 MB on the data partition..
With odexing of the system apps, more space can be saved on /data.
And for those who are wondering, yes, I will be releasing my Spacious, Smooth and Light v4 within a couple of days

Wow, looks like a great app. Thanks for sharing.. Earlier in GB, framework could also be odexed.. Have you been successful in odexing ICS framework? Luckily this time around Sony did that for us

Yes, but for GB, just google, you have scripts that odex framework also..
I don't quite understand how to use this. In the readme.txt, it says 'This script odex'es all the apk in /mnt/sdcard/odex folder..'? Please explain?

- Take a nandroid backup before doing anything
- copy /system/app/* to /mnt/sdcard/odex/
- run the script. odexed files are in the same folder.
- copy /mnt/sdcard/odex/* to /system/app/ in recovery
- wipe cache & dalvik-cache & reboot.

I was wondering why the script was not working then I copied all the files to platform-tools and it worked.

1. Go here and download 0vermind's init.d re-hack
2. Flash the init.d re-hack in BSR (Bootstrap Recovery)
3. Flash Speedy v2 (Road Runner)
4. Reboot twice
To make sure the scripts are working go to /data and check for "ZipAlign log" if you see it, the scripts are working.

Does anyone know if these scripts will work with the atrix ports?
I am a noob and didn't want to start a new thread that would clutter up so this seemed like the best place to ask.
They should work on atrix port but in theory you don't need to flash the init.d hack its already built into atrix port.

Yes the scripts are working GREAT with the Atrix port
I install this morning and my phone is working outstanding
7 hours and my phone is still at 80%
the min CPU freq is set @ 250 up from 216
another question...so now that naven updated his scripts do i even need this? Or would it be smart to install this over navens latest release?

It depends which scripts u prefer. They are different in some ways...and u may need to delete parts of conflicting scripts or entire script itself. I saw some people had problems when trying to do that. Just make ur nandroid before trying to be safe.
U could just push the scripts into init.d folder u want to use and fix permission/owners.
So the scripts from these two guys are named differently, does navens have the script that helps battery or can I just add that specific one from overmind into navens zip file?

I wanted to say thanks for your interesting work on RoadRunner. I've flashed it, along with the hack, and it wasen't loading as I wasen't seeing Zipalign. log. but realized maybe I should reload busyox, hch I did. Then upon reflashing roadrunner, the zipalign.log appeared. Al started speeding up after this as well as increasing battery life. So thanks again

I am already using Omega ROM v11, why do i need this crap?
if you are using Omega ROM v11 (Stock), then congratulations, you are using a very good ROM.
this mod makes it even smaller and fixes some nasty bugs.
it removes everything thats not needed to run the ROM. if you need any system app back, just push it to the phone from the original OMEGA v11 Stock rom!
Why not install the OMEGA v11 Stock ROM and remove the apps later?
if you start with all the apps, they leave traces, call home and other things.
so its better to start a ROM without these apps ever running, not even 1 time.

the base for the modification is:
[ROM][XWLP8][21Apr] Omega v11 Stock
*) all apps that can be installed from the market are removed (like googlemaps, youtube ...)
*) removed Swype!!! (its the crappy version with extra umlaut-keys) if you need swipe you can install it later, or PM me for a version without extra umlaut keys
*) Phone.apk with callrecording (this time done the proper way, no FCs, compressed format for files)
*) Contacts.apk with configuable view, meaning no sms in call logs (this time done the proper way, no FCs. and settings are saved in prefs)
*) TouchWiz30Launcher.apk modded for clean startup with clean desktop (this time done the proper way)
*) moved Omega_Files_ICS_v0.1.apk from /system/app to /data/app (this thing should not be in /system/app)
*) exchanged the bootanim to NEXUS S (from Omega files), because it just looks nicer [ok, so stone me for that ...]
*) removed some annoying sounds
Charger_Connection.ogg
TW_Battery_caution.ogg
TW_Low_Battery.ogg
(so when you plugin the USB cable, it does not make that loud PING anymore)
*) removed lots of system apps/widgets and services
*) removed auto reboot after installing the ROM (you need to manually reboot after installing)

download omg11stock_patch.zip from

answer "yes" to overwrite any files
pack the resulting directory to a new XXXX.zip file
push the XXXX.zip file to your SDCARD and flash via CWM (it does not wipe! but it is highly recommended that you WIPE !!)

yeah its for german only. you can see it in this picture:

It will work for v11.1 because the only thing you modified which changed in this version is the phone mod (you just won't have the full screen photo mod).
I took a look at your work, and your updater-script is REALLY messy...
You also delete the data/app folder which contains the user's apps. Not cool.
Some important files are also deleted, strange (here) ! Everything is still working after applying this ? ._.
It takes 5 minutes to theme the 3 apps modified, why didn't you do it ? ... If you modded these apps properly, it should be easy for you.
Here are the two zips themed for BB and ICS. I didn't test. It should work (as the stock one do).

messy? not really.
yeah data/app is deleted because those can be installed from the market. not everybody want so much stuff installed
and yes everything works after applying this. thats the point. everything useless is removed. if you need any of those samsung bloatware things, dont use this mod

You framework folder needs to be entirely deodexed or odexed. It can't have some files odexed and other not, like Apps folder. the phone won't boot. Krabappel words And if that is from the SSPeed ROM, the system is really unstable, so the phone won't stay up too much... I could try, but I would need to have the entire framework folder so i could test on my phone.
Hope his files are from the 1.58 fw. Don't know if there is any incompatibility with an older ICS fw.

Fw 6.1.A.0.453 ICS, I dont know, but some apps in stock firmware from /system/app have .odex and others dont .... i dont know if its the same with framework

Could you share your entire Framework folder, I want to see if it could work on my 1.58 fw... I'm not sure, but, still. Maybe with it fully deodexed I can try, and it will make it easier. I also could do the 30 volume step mod
I think Sony should create a "Expert Mode" on their JB firmware, where experienced users could activate some nice features, such as enable Reboot in power menu.

So I was tinkering around on the KA12 SSpeed rom and created the reboot button for the power menu. So I'm not entirely sure if it will work on the stock rom since it's not deodexed.
But attached is the modified android.policy.jar. I had reused an existing icon as I couldn't recompile framework-res.apk.

Do you have an android.policy.odex file there as well? If so, that means you can't use this, since it was created on a deodexed rom.
But, like I said, I have it working krab's KA rom so I can't really tell if it will work anywhere else.

Sure if you did delete the file, the users phone would not start.

For a quick fix while you wait...try the quick reboot app from the market - tiny little app, reboot, reboot into recovery etc - works well :good:

Flash It Like A Rom/Zip
It works on all slots (Multiboot) if using Turbo Kernel
Boot Time Change is noticeable.
why is this script deleting all files in /data/dalvik-cach/ ? wouldn't making sense to just delete dex files of the newly odexed system apps or framework ?

A mixture of ODEXed and Deodexed files can cause problems.
Some apps have different dalvik when ODEX.
It is a stability measure.

There are a lot of ODEX methods and scripts out there.
I just uploaded the CWM Method used in the ODEX Roms we currently have.
This could work on JB/ICS but not guaranteed (Phone/Contacts apks may FC)
i flashed tihs on dixperia2 rom and it dosen't boot anymore it freezes on boot logo

It's usually because of your android.policy.jar.
Either that or you have jar's that contain no 'meta-data'.
Open up all your Jar's in /System/Framework and see what's missing.
half of my system apps don't have their odex files even after fllashing the zip multiple times ! i don't know what's keeping them from odexing
also if i transfer any new app to system/app , its odex file can't be generated ...

It is a small script that does not ODEX everything but only small amount of files.
Full ODEXing is reccomended through ADB and not CWM.
Some things can't be ODEXed in CWM
Also this only ODEXes apps used by system, your own apps will not be ODEXed even if you move to system and re-run script

Dude, how come the statusbar disappear after odexing?? Its like there's no systemui present. Not even an fc popup. Just no statusbar. I've tried several times still got the same result. Any clue what might be the prob??

I have no idea, I just decided to share the script other devs use for those who are unaware/want to ODEX their roms, I can't tell you exactly.
Cache and Dalvik clean are recommended though.

Hi,
This is not my work but I want to share it, the original thread is here:
[SCRIPT TO ODEX] Universal Odex Script Version 6.3 (10-09-2013)(MM-dd-yyyy)
I was on stock rom so Odexed and I flashed a custom Deoxeded rom (for some features and mods)... But I loose the smoothess of my stock rom..., some kind of lags and stutters scrolling in settings, openning an app the transition animation is not smooth, etc... And by searching on the Android Development and Hacking forum I found this thread above...
I had a doubt about the real improvement... But who knows? Nandroid backup, I follow the guide and... My phone is smooth as before, apps open faster, like on stock! All the mods flashed before works, no bootloop, no force closes, all is fine
BUT there is always a but, you're custom Deodexed rom is now Odexed, nothing dramatic but good bye the mods for Deodexed rom (bootloop) so before flashing a mode make sure it's for Odexed rom...
You can flash your favorite Deoxeded rom, flash some mods and then Odex your rom, you'll keep your mods (at least for me).
For Deoxeded... Reflash your rom or a backup (Deoxeded).
Download the attached file.
Place it on your sdcard.
Reboot in recovery and in the first place make a Nandroid backup then flash the zip in recovery and reboot.
You'll see that the app Script Manager was installed, open it then type (press enter after each line):
su
dexo -all

A line will appear then type "Yes" and press enter, the procedure will start, maybe you'll have some Force Closes, it's normal then the phone will reboot... and enjoy!
For more details about what exactly does the script, a better explanation, etc... Take a look to the original thread.
Don't odex the Data app or you'll need to reinstall your paid apps (and before delete the .dex files), you'll encouter a lot of force closes, etc...
I tested on LG rom only...

Hi,
It depends of the mods?
Generally, use your mods then Odex your rom, there is a chance that after Odexed your rom you can't properly apply other mods...
I think the OP is clear...:

You can flash your favorite Deoxeded rom, flash some mods and then Odex your rom, you'll keep your mods (at least for me).
For Deoxeded... Reflash your rom or a backup (Deoxeded).
