Hey guys. this isn't my first rodeo so no flaming.
I keep getting random reboots on my phone. It happens about every 15 minutes to an hour. I've flashed stock and did a full factory reset. I've tried new kernels... What are my other options? This is starting to get on my nerves
My suggestion is going back to bone stock with no adjustment.

Already did... I'll try again tonight.
Also, reboot seems to stop when plugged in?

Are you undervolting?
Any 3rd party accessories? (Batteries, etc.)
Could be a hardware issue
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
No hardware accessories and no undervolting. I made sure to stop the UV when the reboots started occurring. I'm by no means a dev, but i've been around a while and this just baffles me.

It could just be a bad battery. I'd suggest wiping and flashing back to stock. If the reboots continue, you can probably get AT&T to give you a replacement.
I'm getting the same problem as you. Before I started flashing (I'm still seeing the problem in AOKP, too), it was happening on the stock rom. I'm going to flash back to stock and see if that helps for me.
By the way, I think it's a hardware issue also. It seems like the reboots are more frequent when I'm holding the phone or when it is in my pocket, maybe the contacts in the battery are the problem? It happens if I just sit the phone on my desk also, so I know I'm not accidentally holding the power button
EDIT: 1
Okay, after flashing back to the stock rom, the problem persisted. I just picked my phone up and it turned of as soon as I lifted it. Have you noticed that lifting/touching is related also?

My problem was also hardware related... it seemed to stem from a wonky power button. I contacted ATT and in 15 hours, FedEx had my new phone at my door. Win.

Okay so hope this is the right spot to post this....
My phone about two hours ago was on working fine. At about 30% bat...
I took a nap and now when i plug it in to the charger it will not turn on at all.. only thing that happens is the LED blinks that orangy color over and over...
If i remove the battery and put it back in.. still nothing at all ever comes on the screen.
After removing the battery and while plugged into the charger if i hold the power button it will vibrate once and thats it...
not sure whats happening.
I was on gingeritis 1.0 and everything was great up to this point.
any ideas??
Let is attempt to charge for a while, maybe 2 hours. Then see if you can power up into the bootloader. See if that works.
I had that happen once as well. I just let it sit on the charger for about 15-20 minutes, and it booted up with no problems after that. In my case, it looked like the battery was just completely dead and needed to build up enough juice to last until after it booted up.

Ditto, try pulling battery out for 5-10 seconds, put the charger. It will not blink, then it will flash orange blinks let it sit for some 15. Minutes. Remember that TB takes alot of juice to reboot sometimes 5%.
STAY AWAY FROM ALL GINGERBREAD ROMS
My phone got stuck on the white htc screen this morning all of a sudden without any perceivable reason at all. Luckily I was able to restore to a backup.. BUT... It wouldn't install any new roms on my phone anymore for some reason.. they all get stuck on the white htc screen.
My advice.. GB is f&&&ked somewhere deep down.. and which is probably why it isn't officially released yet. Keep off of it if you don't wanna brick your phones.

That's a sign of a hardware failure I had a bad touch screen and once it went out it wouldn't boot past the splash, I'm sure it's similar with other hardware failures so it's a bad device not the gingerbread roms
Atleast that's my opinion

I had this happen to just a few ago.
Picked up the phone and screen was off,Normal, I hit power and nothing.
Pulled battery, went bootloaded mode recovery and wiped and loaded bamf.
I have all the roms on my SD now.
Serious now, that was the second time I loaded th3ory.
The first time, I went to uninstall something and when I hit uninstall the button started flickering wild.
I kept mashing uninstall,I got it to switch to the next screen where you hit ok.
Then got a pop up over and over, phone force close sorry.
Pulled battery and went recover and loaded bamf.
So th3ory came out with v4 I thought ok why not.
Then I had the dead phone problem like you are talking about.
I don't want to bash any dev or Rom but I'm not sure about th3ory Rom guys.
I posted because this just happend to me and many post are talking about battery.
I don't think its a battery problem guys

For one all GB ROM have the data load issue when trying to uninstall. Second, if it was a issue, more people would have reported it.
Titanium Backup, a App you use in every ROM, CPU setting to low, not wipe to save some time, a multitude of things could cause you a issue.
In my defense, if it were my ROM, it would be heard.

Dude. Stop bashing the GB dev Rom. You run the risk of bricking with any Rom. Plenty of people are using GB and the 2.5 radio with no problems, myself included. If it docent work right on your phone then put something else on it. Not every phone is going to react the exact same way to a flash. Your always going to have those few exceptions, even with OTA's.

Not good advice at all.
Check your charging cable! I just had a bad cable the other day and my phone was doing the same exact thing... light bliking on and off. I found if I plugged it in and then lightly pulled it half way out the orange light stayed solid, but it took some work.
Before you start freaking out, just try another cable... hopefully its not the connectors inside your phone.

no need to get your panties in a bunch.. My advice is only worth whatever it is.. (which may be nothing too).. and I am not thrusting it on anyone to follow it.
Where the hell do you figure I am bashing devs??? The more time one spends on xda the more you come across these noob "police figures" who go around poking into unrelated stuff getting all worked up for nothing.. Like I said.. it is probably something to do with how the alpha gingerbread works at the core level which is causing all these problems.. it has nothing to do with devs.. and look around you.. plenty of people are reporting the same. I didn't see anyone complaining when devs reported the same with the earlier GB and asked people to stay away from it. Were they doing it so that they can bash other devs who had their GB roms out before they did? I don't think so. So quit shooting from your hips and move along.
If the led is blinking it means the phone is totally dead. If you let it sit the light will eventually become solid and be fine

For the last two days my phone has been anything off at random... nothing has been changed... I'm on the cm9 nightly from the two days ago... this is the thing tho... If I gentely tap the phone it will shut off or shake it... so I figured maybe after time the batter is lose... but it also is turning off if it sits completely still...unless its playing music. It has not turned off since Round 8 ad I have just had it playing music this full time ...any ideas??
I already did a full wipe and re install and when I get home I'm going to Oden back to stock and redo everything.

My only suggestion at this point is odin back to stock 2.1.
Unfortunately this sounds like symptoms of hardware failure. I had a phone (cliq) which would do the exact thing as you described...the phone would vibrate shut off and reboot unexpectedly. I would open the physical keyboard and it would also shut off...this is totally hardware related from my understanding. But that is the worst case scenario.
Hopefully it is a software related issue in your case. Not much else i can say.

Overclocked? Voltages changed at all from default? If you have anything set in voltage control or setcpu, get rid of them and try it. You could also try booting into recovery and see if you can reproduce the problem. That should also help determine if it is software or hardware related.
If the phone is plugged in it does not seem to reboot. i have not had time to mess with it i will check it out this weekend. Weird because it only seems to be doing this at work? I have not had it restart on me at all while at home.
Also if i have the music playing it will not turn off. This weekend im going to oden back to stock and see how it goes. otherwise gonna try to deal with it long enough till the gs3 comes out, ha.

thanks for the response. and I found my problem already too, I had a bad power ribbon inside the phone that was torn.
Hey guys, my i777 has been random rebooting for 3 months now. I've tried everything in the realms of wiping, foctory reseting, ROM flashing etc. When I flash a new ROM (I like SuperNexus and CM9/10) the random reboots are happenning once a day. As time goes by, the number of random reboots reaches a number like 10, 15 per day, which makes the phone basically a black brick. I've tried identifying usage patterns that could lead me to a system fail (maybe some app could be causing it?) but it didn't make either.
It's a hard reset (it takes me back to Samsung screen) and I've tried everything, in every way, in every forum you can imagine, I've also tried looking in the last_kmsg log file, but it never gives me material to work with.
My last attempt to make this work is right below, I've recorded the logcat (it's really big!). I'd be very pleased if anyone with more knowledge in Android system than me could try to identify what's causing this. Thank you so much! The logcat is attached in this thread.
So you've tried going back to stock ginger bread, not installing any apps, and seeing if the problem persists?

Yes I have, keep getting random reboots. Is this a case of throwing the phone away and buying another? I have it for 1,5 years, maybe should be time to move ahead... This thing already gave me so much headache that I've already paid another phone in stress and sweat

I had a similar issue, mine would reboot sometimes once a week, sometimes 5-10 times a day. Random sleep of death, freeze and complete battery drain etc. I finally sent it in on my square trade warranty and they replaced the main board - some sort of short in there that was causing it i guess. I suppose it would be possible to swap out the main board, or buy a used phone with a broken screen or something to strip for parts.
There is a great video by "le55ons" on youtube tearing down a I9100 that could help you get an idea of what's involved.
My note started doing this after it went through airport security. It was in a bag and went through the x-ray machine. It randomly reboots very often, probably between 20-60 second intervals. I was on CM10, then I flashed back to stock ICS, and then finally up to the official JB update. None of which has solved this problem.

Phone is stuck in a boot loop and this is what I know so far. Phone is on stock ROM, power button is working fine, I can get to recovery and OS and download mode, and while phone was charging I took the battery out and the phone keeps vibrating. I now know it's a hardware problem for me (I think), but I can not pin point where. Any advise would be helpful cause I really love my note and this is just breaking my heart.:crying:
So I was charging my phone, and it restarted itself and now it's stuck in a bootloop!
I can't access download mode or recovery, it keeps restarting before I have the opportunity to press any buttons (hardware or on screen) and removing the battery does nothing either, as soon as I put the battery back in, the phone resets without me even pushing the power button
I'm using Temasek CM11 v8 with the "201113-1248-cm11-i9300-r3p2-linux30101-BOEFFLA-temasek" kernel
Is it recoverable?
I've managed to get it into both Recover and Download mode briefly, but both times the phone restarted within a few seconds back to the bootloop
Sounds like the power button is shorted out, fairly cheap repair if so.

Thanks for the reply. What makes you think that it's the power button shorting?
Holding power button for 5 seconds acts as a hard reset, everywhere.
That's a good starting point actually. There's no reason for download mode to reboot automatically. If it loaded then it waits for the events. Either it works until you do anything with a PC, or doesn't work at all.
hi
try using a universal battery charger and then try again

Ah Well I suppose that makes it pretty conclusive. 2 hours later and it's still bootlooping... I'd take it apart but I don't really know what i'm looking for and I suspect if it's shorting, something will need replacing or soldering etc. Thanks very much

The issue of having it shortly resetting once reinstalled the battery sounds to me like a hardware failure, most probably hard resetting all the time.
A hardware repair should help fix this.

It's funny you say that, after hours and hours of trying to get my phone to work, somehow through more luck than judgement I managed to get it into recovery and flash WanamLite 7.2 (I figured it was the next best thing to stock, as I couldn't access download mode) and well... since then, touch wood my phone hasn't restarted itself even once... now granted in that time i've only touched the power button once, to turn on the device, but it seems like progress to me
So my question is, is it possible that I could of had a bad flash or something? It seems too coincidental to me, and I don't actually think the different ROMs have anything to do with the problem (that is still lingering beneath I suspect), but the optimist in me REALLY wants it to be fixed haha
EDIT: Oh and thank you tweetatoo for your reply

Interesting, thanks. It's just a bit confusing, it seems plausible because I flashed the ROM earlier in the day but at the same time, im not sure how much control the new ROM would have over the phone entering Download Mode... Mind boggling.
I'll keep an eye on it for a bit... and im still too scared to use the power button haha
Thanks very much
Download mode is entirely separate to the rom, I still think your power button shorted out (stuck down) as it's been reported many times before. If you have warranty then now would be the time to triangle away and return to stock for a while, just in case.
