Can someone please tell me if the htc dev unlock is the only way to unlock our phone so that we can flash new roms. I have it rooted now, but I believe I need it unlocked as well. Is this correct? I am just trying to find out the best way to do this. The HTC DevUnlock seems to be very frustrating. Thanks, and I am sure I am not the only one with this question. I see a couple tutorials for rooting but not for unlocking.
Right now it is. It's not that bad. I unlocked in about 20 minutes. Worse thing for me is I had to factory reset. I had just set everything up but if you had rooted before it will still be there because the unlock only wipes data not system.

Damn Sprint!
Root phone > Back up everything with Titanium Backup > Unlock with HTC Dev > Flash custom recovery (TWRP) > Flash new ROM > Restore apps. No biggie.

Weird. I don't think it should say **TAMPERED** when you first get it. But I haven't looked yet. Sorry.

I just used the procedure discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672072&highlight=+hboot+2+18+
to unlock the HBOOT 2.18 boot loader on my OG EVO 4g. I have no idea what it does or how, but it produced exactly the same result as HTCDev without going through HTCDev. From unlocked, I was able to flash an older RUU that let me achieve S-OFF using Revolutionary.
Now, I understand that EVO 4G LTE has no earlier versions that have been unlocked. So, no RUU to fall back to, but I wonder if the method used in the EVO post could be applied to at least get us non-HTCDev Unlocked.

I was having a problem with my screen being unresponsive so i needed to take it into a sprint store. i ran a signed 2.17 exe and now I have hboot 1.5 but still have s-off. in the bootloader screen it says locked but still shows s-off. i am confused as to what to do next. i assume i need to unlock but didn't know if i could do this via revolutionary. I tried to do a search but everything i found was related to s-on. I am trying to restore my phone to its rooted state since I have already had the repairs made. Any help and links would be greatly appreciated.

fastboot oem writesecureflag3 or fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 , one of those will turn s-on
Edit... This might help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1578977
Thanks for the quick response. Sorry I was not more clear about what I am wanting to do. I am keeping the phone and the repairs have been made. I now have hboot 1.50 with s-off. I am wanting to flash a custom rom again and need to install a recovery. I didn't know what the process is currently for "unlocking" my phone now. When I rooted the phone originally, i was on hboot 1.4 and used revolutionary. I just do not know what to do to get my phone rooted again. I understand I have part of it with s-off still being on my phone, but the "locked" text at the top of the bootloader screen tells me I need to rectify this before I can flash a recovery. Is this correct?
Thanks.

Oh I see, well, your s-off and that locked banner means nothing because s-off should override it. Just flash a PG86IMG.zip of a recovery of your choice and you're good to go. Or you can flash it via fastboot by typing fastboot flash recovery "yourrecovery.img" once you do that, flash a rooted Rom. You could flash a lower hboot with a PG86IMG.zip if you want but its not really necessary.
If you want, I could dig up hboot 1.4 or revs hboot for ya. I think I have em in dropbox.
I got it. Thanks for all the help.

not yet rooted but i unlock bootloader & try to s-off but not supported hboot 1.49.0018 so i try to downgrade h-boot but not success & its now hanging on htc screen & rebooting time and again so plz if u have idea
The only hboot number supported is 1.49.0007 and 1.49.0008 anything above this require HTC dev so youve done that next you need to install a custom recovery next download a Rom and flash it next you will start the process off downgrading of your hboot to any of the hboots thats stated above once this is done your ready for alpharevolutionary.io then and only then you will be able to reach the almighty and famous s off in this order

And remember, if you screw up anywhere during the process, you can always download the GSM RUU, relock, and flash it through bootloader.
I wouldn't advise relocking unless you're completely stumped since i dont think you can unlock again after that.
I had my HTC amaze unlocked with s-off and a modded hboot I then updated to a new ICS firmware to run ICS however when the firmware flashed to my phone it locked my phone and reset my hboot but still kept s-off. Is there anyway to unlock my phone again? If anyone has any help please let me know I already tried to unlock it through HTdev website and it did not work!!!
If you are s=off, then you don't need to unlock your bootloader. I'm assuming you have eng bootloader, and with that, you don't need to unlock anything.

HTC dev website is the way i did it, and it worked perfect for me. What method did you use that didn't allow you to unlock your phone?

If any of you read correctly, he said he unlocked it before, therefore, all he has to do is place the unlock_code file in hasoon's tool's data folder and run the unlock bootloader option, voila he's back to being unlocked, though the relocking sounds kind of odd, but it could probably be due to the hboot he was using, I'm guessing was Juopunutbear's or something.

I did read it, the old unlock bin does not work with new ics so he has to redo everything once more....

Well my old unlock bin worked fine for me re-unlocking on ICS, guess I was lucky, okay cool, my bad.
Yes I had hboot from Juopunutbear when I did the s-off it asked to install his hboot but after I upgraded it changed my hboot back to 1.93.0002 and it is SHIP s-off not eng which I am not totally sure what the difference is but is there a way to change SHIP back to ENG????? I am going to give HTCdev another chance and see what happens... thanks for the input and help
ok so I just tried HTCdev again and it unlocked my phone however it did a hard reset the only thing I have to do now is to have eng s-off instead of ship s-off.

Just flash the eng hboot via bootloader, though you don't need to, unless you plan to do fastboot commands, which the average user doesn't have much need for, hasoon's tool does everything you need, recovery, root, etc, though I do recommend 4EXT recovery, which you can easily install after obtaining root.
Hello! I'm running Scott's ROM ICS S-ON. I'm not looking to S-OFF unless absolutely necessary; I don't prefer messing up with a bricked phone.
I want to update to the official ICS OTA distributed by Verizon. I haven't found a post that has any information on how to do this with S-ON Relocked and a Relocked Bootloader.
In my bootloader, the information at the top is
Code:
***RELOCKED***
***SECURITY WARNING***

Download the latest RUU. If you locked your bootloader after using htc dev, all you would have to do is flash the new global RUU as normal and unlock (If you want) the bootloader again.

Is the new RUU the one from the Android Police website? Yes, I unlocked the bootloader via HTC Dev, and I just relocked "fastboot oem lock".
I have it rooted, so I guess now it can't boot, as it only boots into bootloader.

I downloaded the RUU from Nils Sense 4 thread. First page, third post.

Since your relocked, just place it on root sd as PH98IMG.zip and reboot into bootloader to flash.

Alright, I'll try that. If I come up with any errors (I'll be sure if it's one), I'll come back and talk of it.
...As soon as I'm about to type what was going wrong, it decided to fix itself SOMEHOW and continue.
...Well, so far, it has appeared to be working fine! Not sure if this will fix the blue screen problem, but all I was really hoping for was to get the stock Rezound ICS update.
Thanks so much! You've been really helpful. It was much simpler than I was expecting. I'll see about rooting at a later date
Not sure how it works or the slang around here but "bump"? or "thanks" button pressed xD

I am in a similar state and I have one follow up question. I read in another thread that before relocking my bootloader, I would need to Flash stock recovery because I have Amon-Ra installed. Is flashing the stock recovery absolutely required before relocking and flashing the new global ruu?
Thanks in advance.

No, you don't need to flash stock recovery. The RUU will do that for you. Just make sure you're locked before you flash the RUU. Unlock and re flash your choice of recovery after RUU is complete.

In an effort to upgrade bootloader and software to be compatible with cm11.. I used vipeRUU to go from 1.12 bootloader to 2.09 bootloader with the 3.17.651.471 software, whats confusing me is bootloader still says ..Unlocked ..and S-off after running ruu ..bootloader has changed and so has the software... (i was Previously s-off via Lazy panda).. i was under the impression that this would un root and lock bootloader again.. i know that i now have lost root i know how to check that .. question is , is bootloader locked now as well?..tried rumrunner and moonshine to no avail, to get S-OFF .. and it needs to be unlocked for those exploits to work.. any ideas?
It will lock your bootloader and return the phone S-on if you chose those options in the menu when you first ran VipeRUU. If you're still S-off, then all you need to do is unlock the bootloader again unless it's showing unlocked. An easier route than what you chose would have been to update your Hboot to the Rumrunner Hboot, which takes less than a minute to do. You'll still need to update your firmware, since VipeRUU is a version behind what's currently out there. If you're S-on now, you'll need to unlock the bootloader and run Moonshine.

Yep, you should be good to go now. Just make sure that you have Superuser privileges and all should be right with the world:thumbup:
