Hey There,
a friend of mine is looking for a midrange Phone going up to 300€ / 400$
i tried my best and we found the HTC One V to be a good and pretty phone that also has a slight chance to get a major update (since it is in the One line)
Would you agree with the One V or is there a great phone in that price range we missed?
Does the One V have any killer arguments not to buy it?
Thanks for your Advice
If your friend isn't an hardcore android user and it's his first smartphone I'd say xperia arc s or optimus 2x. Also some recent things like xperia u and sola are nice. It all depends on what he likes and wants. For example, I love gaming so I bought xperia play, it's far from being in the battle for best phone and having great specs but it's all about user experience in my opinion.

Thank you!
I didn't know these phones are already that much down in price.
It's her first Android smartphone (she had a symbian based Nokia smartphone before)
From pure specs superior, but has someone already tried one or more of these phones?
HTC one V
Sony xperia arc s
LG Optimus 2x
Thank you

I have an LG G2x, the US variant of the Optimus 2x, and I'd highly recommended it for a first phone as long as you'd be willing to install a custom ROM on it.

LG Optimus 2x is my choose...
Id go for an evo 3d, not because of the cool bonus of 3d, more because its a dual core phone, 1gb ram, 4.3 inch screen, eactly the same as a sensation, but the battery is bigger, more mah, i got mine for 180 quid, mint condition of ebay, plus its planned to get ics, although there are some amazing ics leak roms already!

Is the 512Mb of RAM on the 2x an issue?
In a similar boat, looking for the cheapest phone with dual core cpu, 1Gb of RAM, tolerable internal RAM, SD slot and reasonable community support.
i doubt there is a 1gb ram phone you can get new in this price range :S
so far the LG optimus 2x look good, but it wont get 4.0 until Q3...

This. There is no better phone for the price if off contract.
oO that is an awesome price! unfortunately they don't have this offer in Europe and a US Nexus wont work over here :S
i think we're going with the LG Optimus 2x
You can get a used Galaxy S II for under $400.

I'm about to change my old Desire with a new phone... but i'm very undecided on my choose.
I have no budget limit, but i want to spend well my money...
I'm interested in full ICS support that come with Galaxy Nexus, but some features don't like to me (plastic case, design, easy-to-scrath display, "old" cpu and gpu) ...
I like so much new HTC One series (especially One X) but it has too much inch for me and the nvidia soc doesn't persuade me (after have seen lg 2x problems) ...
so there is HTC One S, but here i don't like the design (much more beautiful on OneX) and to tell the truth, i like original interface of ICS, i don't want Sense also because is too "Social-print" (i don't have facebook, twitter, google+)
I'm so confused
Hmmm, Samsung galaxy s2? If your still into HTC phones maybe XE or XL.

S2 is getting old ...
maybe the best thing is to wait for S3
First your current available
Well SGS2 has the best processor of that generation, shame about the TW muddled OS. This is the only thing that lets it down.
The GalNexus is almost indentical with a bigger screen, excellent noise cancellation, processor almost as good but ecellent stock vaniila guaranteed upgrade but no gorilla glass, and micro SD card.
The HTC One X -- Quad Core, large screen, ICS, Good camera with nice features. No removable battery, no microsd card. See debate about Quad vs Dual Core to decide where you stand
For deciding phones in the future might be good

For a fair as you can find evaluation of quad core vs top dual core
http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/05/htc-one-x-vs-one-s/
Seeing as the Krait S4 performs quite well, I'd suggest the ASUS padfone as a strong contender for your purchase.
Future phones are mostly rumourer and I covered that here;

best thing to do now is wait... obviously for SGS3. That does not mean SGS3 is your best option… you should wait & then compare HTC One X , SGS3 & LG optimus 4X

I agree, if the HTC One X isn't suited for you then waiting really Is the best option.

Galaxy Nexus is getting cheaper by the second, and will undoubtedly take a further price dive after the S3 comes out (hopefully in a month or too), so that's an option. However, you said you had unlimited budget, and didn't like GN so much. (Also, it is a "last-generation" phone, though not outdated or anything.)
You never mentioned if rooting was an option. If so, you can get stock ICS on pretty much anything (I'd wait for the S3 to compare it to our current options, then). If not, your choices are far more limited (most of them not even out yet): http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/q9zvm/phones_with_stock_ice_cream_sandwich/
Either wait for S3 or go for S2 and root it. Flash ICS rom and you are golden..
Can anyone tell me what the main differences are when you compare gnexus with the stock ROM vs gs2 with rooted ics rom? The differences in speed smoothness etc

Although I've had nothing but good experiences with lg phones, I don't believe in brand loyalty. If a different company is offering a better deal then in my opinion, you should go with them. Personally i think the galaxy ace 2 looks really good, it's high end hardware with a decent price, if it was available in canada I probably would've bought it by now. If you're dead set on an LG, I'd recommend staying away from the optimus L3, L5, L7, and black as they really aren't much of an upgrade compared to the optimus one. The optimus 2x and 4x look alright but they're probably still fairly expensive for what they are.
Galaxy ace plus and mini 2 are also awesome, and got JB update

If you're talking about the GT-S7500, then it's a great phone hardware-wise, but it's got horrible, horrible aftermarket developer support. You can't even find CM7.2 for the damn phone. Hopefully the rumors of an official JB update is true. Also, I don't know if this is true of most Samsung phones, but the Ace Plus is really sensitive to being flashed and easily bricked. Rooting and flashing a custom ROM on my A+ was more nerve wracking (since I didn't have a usb jig should things go wrong) than the time I bricked my O1 for 2 days.

I know that some have speculated that it might be $400. I just hope than it has 16gb not 8gb.
PS I wish I could get the Xiaomi Mi-Two ($315). http://www.anandtech.com/show/6163/xiaomi-announces-miui-phone-mitwo-with-apq8064-inside
I have loved my p500 but have used my partners S3 and would definitely get one of those if I could afford it, also my brother has an HTC one X and would also recommend one of those, I like the sense UI a lot.

guys i need a help to buy a New android phone, right now i am using xperia neo v but i want to change it now so please give me your valuable suggestion. My budget is near 20,000 rupees..
Samsung Galaxy S Advance if you want a phone that's going to have an official JB upgrade.
Otherwise there's LG Optimus L9 and Motorola Atrix 2. HTC and Sony phones are much lower specced than these phones in this price range. You can also look at Sony Xperia J, but it's specifications are inferior to the other 3, I think. Look up all these phones on GSMArena and find the one you like best. If you want the (almost) latest version of Android i.e. 4.1.2, then your only choice is Samsung Galaxy S Advance.

I've rooted both Htc and Samsung devices and have found Samsung just a tad easier. Also the flagship phones seem to have more developer support. So out of your list I would say the one x+

I would choose the HTC one x+
I don't know what I need... HTC one or BUTTERFLY...

LG optimus G pro its perfect with the last eye technology
optimus g
HTC One X+
Awesome build quality and great price/performance ratio
Just make sure you put CM 10.1 on it, you'll want to get rid of the HTC Sense skin (full of bloatware)
ACE 2
The question depends on what do you need. If you want a "brick" that may even break a wall, you can buy some Siemens or old Nokia phones But if you need a good mix of all main good features from Andy, get Samsung Galaxy Ace2:angel:
htc one x+ out of those
It depends
it depends on what you want from a phone, i wanted a good gaming phone so got a xperia play but it all depends on what you want from a phone
I would go for One X+ as well.
From the list which you have provided, i will choose HTC One X+ .. but i personally think that One X+ is bit over priced.. Now if i have enough money.. I will buy the Sony Xperia ZL.. i feel it as the most compact and powerful 5' device at this point of time..
I will go with the one x+ , i used both samsung and htc but ibreally loved the htc amazing screen fantastic resolution and a decent battery life , samsung is easier when rooting and flashing roms , but htc is brilliant go htc and you wont regret it

It the One, still the one?
With no SD card and no removable battery, AND the arrival of the Galaxy S4, Is the HTC still the best?
I see lists of phones with ratings and complaints of this and that as far as UI and bloatware, if these phones are rooted and a custom ROM installed, then could someone direct me to a comparison of phone based upon being rooted and a custom ROM installed?
I have a GST-P1000 which is average without being rooted, but I'm running Andy 4.2 in CM 10.1 and it is a totally different animal.
Can anybody help?
Hi guys,
So I'm looking into buying an new smartphone and now I have to chose between the s3 mini and the desire x!
Coming from an HTC desire c running on 4.0.3 I have quiete some experience with sense and unlocking HTC devices
Now just asking: are you guys happy with your desire x? In Belgium it's just 199 euros
Sent from my TF300T using xda app-developers app
I was also in dillema between Desire X and S3 mini. I am now glad that i have chosen the HTC because for the same specs u pay more for s3. I think it is just for the name and more mainstream phone that u give more money, and the desire x has better design and quallity of materialls. The only negative side is the video resolution. So i vote for DX Friend got the s3 mini and i was not impressed with what u get for that amount of money, so overall the ratio of price and what u get is beter for desire x.
That is my opinion.
Sent from my precious!! HTC DX
Yeah the desire x is my choice I'm gonna see if I can get one tomorrow

Ok so here is my opinion on both phones.
HTC Desire X
Pros:
Great build quality
Great design
Sense
Beats audio
Super LCD 2 screen
Cons:
Not really a great support (HTC) the devs are giving their best
Samsung S3 mini :
Pros:
Front camera
1GB ram
720p video recording and output
16 GB internal storage
NFC support
Android 4.2 update
Cons:
TouchWiz
Not really a great build quality
It's Samsung
I don't like the Amoled screens
I'm used to the bad support from HTC on our HTC desire c we spent months on getting Wi-Fi to work on 4.1.2 ROMs because the file wasn't in the source once I asked HTC a question they said that they didn't support that lol
Sent from my TF300T using xda app-developers app
go for s3 mini.
why?
amoled screen.
front facing camera.
720p recording.
built in jellybean.
1gb ram.
faster than desire x. (tested both myself)
almost same price as DX.
better battery life than DX. (again, tested by myself)

Go for s3. Desire X isn't as good as the s3 mini
Cake...
Development is pretty stagnant for DX. I'm with all the above - S3 mini is a better choice.
In a shop that I'm' probably gonna buy it , it costs only 40 euros more!
The only thing I like about the x is the notification led which the s3 mini doesn't have

There are quite few apps which let you use small part of display as notification led even when display is locked and "off".
