Don't wipe. Can you reboot into recovery? If so restore a previous rom or nandroid. You shouldn't lose anything. Above All don't panic.

under clockwork, i click reboot recovery and it goes to vibrant screen for one second then right back to clockwork. any other way?

Before clicking reboot recovery restore a backup that you have made, first.

Do u still have the rom or ANY rom still on your SD card..(internal SD) ?? Just flash the rom again from recovery . If u can access cwm you are fine.

doesn't that wipe everything?

Can you get into download mode? If so Odin to stock. Then put whatever rom you want on there. I believe your pics and vids will be there if you don't repartition. Can someone confirm that?

I am not trying to be a smarta$$, but your post says that you are clicking reboot recovery. What about just reboot? Could also wipe /cache and then advanced/wipe dalvik-cache, then reboot.
If you have adb then you can reboot that way too.
Btw, what ROM are you on?

I think i know what rom is on it? is there a way to find out without being able to boot? and to reflash just install on sd, wipe dalvik and apply sdcard:update.zip or install zip from sdcard?

reboot just locks up at splash screen and clearing the cache and dalvik wont delete files correct? also the cache we talk about is the wipe cache partition?

Wiping /cache and /dalvik won't delete any data so no worries about that. Wipe them both and then reboot. It will take up to 3-5minutes to rebuild the caches.
I kind of need to know what ROM you are/were on to figure out where to go. Once you answer that and try the above, and it doesn't work I have another idea to try.

Yes it is the cache partition. Try the wipe instructions I posted above and let me know if it works. Now that I know what you might be on it will help.

trying to reboot now but it looks like it isnt going to work. but i also read somewhere else
Only the factory recovery wipes the /data/media ("/sdcard") partition. Any third-party community-built recovery (like ClockworkMod Recovery or TeamWin Recovery Project) will wipe everything except /data/media.
So, to answer your question, as long as the files are on your phone's pretend SD card (the default for user-created content and files you transfer to your phone), they won't be wiped when installing a custom ROM.
is this true? also again could care less about the phone just need the new baby pics and vids

You are correct. The only ways to erase your internal SD card is by formatting it, masterclear in Odin, or formatting /data (not wiping but formatting -they are different functions).
Did the wipe and reboot work?

no still stuck on splash screen and vibrates maybe every minute. also updating rom not an option because not sure what rom. and clockwork wipe(even though you said will work) not an option just in case it did wipe pics. it looks like im out of options.

Download DroidExplorer and install on your PC
Reboot into Recovery. Open up Droid Explorer and see if it finds the phone. If so just browse to where you need and copy them.

Is this for CW 3.0.2.4? And where is the download cache? Sorry for stupid question, I haven't upgraded to latest recovery because of said problems.
I just installed V3.0.2.4. Would that be the right version?
confirmed working mostly, havent tested on a restore yet, made a backup and installed a zip fine. no format in this zip though. in RM press menu and you you will see clear cache. and yes this is for 3.0.2.4
make sure under menu you also click erase recovery. this will erase recovery partition before flashing new recovery.

Just to make sure that it's wiped clean before a new flash, the same reason you should do a complete wipe before bouncing to a different ROM.

Do you have to keep erase recovery checked once you reflash the recovery? Or is this a one time deal then revert back to unchecked in settings?

EVO 3D not going pass boot logo after Rom Manager

Hi Guys,
I really need help here.
I have a rooted and unlocked boot loader (Revolutionary) HTC Evo 3d. I already had clockwork recovery installed but when i opened ROM manager and clicked on download ROms it asked me to download clockwork recovery.......so i did. The phone got stuck so i pulled the battery out. Now i simply cannot get past the HTC boot logo. I can get into recovery but i do not want to factory reset as i don't have a backup of my data. Is there ANY way to do ANYTHING to fix this?
Would really appreciate any help in this regard. Any suggestions????

Try booting into recovery ...once there wipe dalvik cache, and also clear the option that says "data cache" will edit so I can reboot and get the exact wording but its data clear cache is what you want to clear as well..then once complete reboot phone and it should get you going. What ROM are you flashing?
**its wipe data/factory reset**
Clear that then reboot see if that helps

No its not a factory reset of your phone..ie: settings erase ..
This is through recovery on clock mod. All it does is clear the previous data which is probably why you get stuck in boot loop
its not going to erase your phone...

I never had a problem with cwm on devices with no other option.... But on devices that had other options the other options have always been the better choice. Could it be that cwm sucking necessitated an alternative or mere coincidence? Likely the latter... But I'll never use cwm if I have another option--cuz all I hear about is trouble.

That is what you're looking for but all it's gonna do is flash a different recovery. From your posts, it seems cwm recovery was still functional. You just need to flash a new rom and forget about your previous data. Always have a nandroid backup of some sort, and this won't happen. I nandroid backup once a week atleast, and more if I start tinkering with the rom. I have also NEVER had any problems with cwm recovery on any of the four android devices i've owned. I don't know why people dislike it so much.

you're kidding right? all you need to do is a factory reset, that's a clean install
I did a factory reset 2 days ago and the data folders are still there.
My phone has the same free space on it.
If you want to remove all your personal data, you need to format the sd card. To wipe and format, go into settings | privacy | Factory data reset, tick the checkbox for "format USB storage" and reset phone. To just format, go to settings | storage | format USB storage.
If you want to completely wipe your phone you can enter the following code into your dial pad and it will completely reset your phone to out of the box conditions

When I say everything, I mean your phone will be just like the day it was first taken out of the box with the stock Samsung firmware that came with the phone, wiping any trace of anything you have ever done to the phone.
Edit: the only thing it does not touch is the bootloaders.
It will reset you to the stock kernel, the entire stock firmware that came factory on the phone.

No offense by any mean but if it is true then we won't have hundreds of threads asking and answering "how to return to stock"

AFAIK, factory reset (aka wipe data) will erase all installed apps, settings, home screen settings, ...., and all personal stuff that stored in the internal memory.
By "internal memory" I meant the sd card. NOTE this sd card IS NOT the external micro SD that we bought separately and insert into the phone. Dang, i hate this confusion. Honestly, I am not sure that "wipe data" even performs what I said in bold.
Factory reset/wipe data does NOT touch the ROM, not touch the kernel, not touch the bootloader, ...., basically it won't touch any system file/folder.
wipe data/factory reset formats /data and /cache partitions. pretty much nothing else except cleaning a couple of other hidden folders.
never touches /system partition
it would behoove everyone to understand these items as they go around flashing things willy nilly....

I have tried a number of times to re-install the rom and have tried to use other roms but all of them seem to end the same way.
I have used:
BAMF FOREVER 1.1
BAMF MECHA ICS
AIRBORNE GOUI
Killsense 3.7.19
Lightning501
few more
My phone is a HTC Thunderbolt and when I attempted to root the phone it had a hboot version of 1.0.8 and had a stock version of ICS installed.
Sadly I have a phone without a working rom and I had forgot to make a backup so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Preferably I would like to keep the phone rooted but its not necessary.

I have tried clearing everything but still doesn't seem to work.
One thing I forgot to mention is sometimes if I wait long enough on the blank screen It boots me back into the 4ext recovery, don't know if that makes much of a difference.
The way I have been installing the rom
Load ROM onto the SD
Do a "wipe data/factory reset"
Go into install sd and choose the Rom which is in a .zip file
I think this is how its supposed to be done, but not sure.

Problem is you were coming from the ICS OTA.
The All In One Tool alone will not get you rooted after taking the OTA.
In order to fully root and s-off after having the OTA loaded, you would need to follow the steps outlined HERE

You can use whatever Recovery you want, Clockwork Mod is old and not really suggested to use, especially with newer roms.

[Q] T-Mobile HTC Amaze 4G - Soft Bricked?

Hey guys, I recently attempted to root my old phone using the Amaze All in One Kit v5.2. Well, I was able to get the bootloader unlocked and installed TWRP recovery, but was unable to get any roms to load. I was advised I should relock the bootloader and attempt to do a RUU flash since my phone will no longer boot past the HTC screen. Since I relocked the bootloader, I have lost access to TWRP recovery entirely. I also tried the PH85IMG file on my SD card, but it doesn't seem to do anything different after installing and verifying.
My current bootloader screen displays the following:
***RELOCKED***
***Security Warning***

Michael
Flash 4ext recovery and enable smart flash from settings and then flash any ics rom... (4ext has this smart flash feature so even tho you're S-ON you can still flash a rom and the kernel together in twrp recovery only the rom get Flash not the kernel) reason it didn't work for you in the first place..

If you have a hard time flashing 4ext recovery from all in one kit use it.. (REMOVE EVERY FILE INSIDE IT EXCEPT FOR THE ONE CALLED "recovery.img" and place it in your ext_sd card and go to bootloader and follow instructions) unlock the bootloader 1st if it's locked ...

Gotcha. Well, I just got the bootloader unlocked again, but I am unable to flash 4EXT recovery through the all in one software. The only other option I saw involved installing from the phone, but since I can only get to the bootloader and TWRP recovery screen, I'm unsure of how exactly to install it. You will have to excuse my ignorance on this stuff. I'm pretty computer literate, but this rooting stuff has gotten the best of me thus far...

Well, after installing just that file on my SD card and restarting the phone, it went through a file check and parsing phase then when I clicked on recovery it brought back up TWRP. Obviously I'm misunderstanding something.

It does not appear so. TWRP opened up once again when I clicked on recovery from within the bootloader.
I'm also getting this error "Unable to mount eMMC" as well.

I think I was doing something incorrectly. Anyways, I just enabled Smart Flash and went to "install from sdcard". When I select "choose zip from sdcard", I get the error "Can't mount /internal sdcard".

In the wipe category, my options are as follows:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe cache + dalvik
wipe dalvik cache
wipe battery stats
format system
format data
format boot
format all partitions (except sd card)
format sdcard
Did you mean do a format all except sdcard?

I came across this method and it appears to have fixed my internal sdcard issue. It is installing the rom now. I will let you know once I get done flashing the rom if all goes as planned.

I ended up just flashing the Cyanogenmod rom for now. Everything seemed to go fine with the install. I rebooted and it sat at the Cyanogenmod splash screen for almost a hour without proceeding. Any clue?

Did you do a full wipe before flashing the rom? If there are data of your previous rom in your system partition all the data get overwrite and crashes ... Full wipe = format all (except sd card)
(the one in wipe/format category..)

It has been at the Cyanogenmod screen for about 20 mins now. Does it normally take this long?

I just read carefully your 1st post now.. You're hboot is 1.93.003 it's normally 1.93.002.. It's a nasty issue.. Try to flash a stock htc ics rom (arhd 5) and do the s-off.. It's the only way to recover from that issue as far as I know..
