[Q] T-Mobile HTC Amaze 4G - Soft Bricked? - HTC Amaze 4G

Hey guys, I recently attempted to root my old phone using the Amaze All in One Kit v5.2. Well, I was able to get the bootloader unlocked and installed TWRP recovery, but was unable to get any roms to load. I was advised I should relock the bootloader and attempt to do a RUU flash since my phone will no longer boot past the HTC screen. Since I relocked the bootloader, I have lost access to TWRP recovery entirely. I also tried the PH85IMG file on my SD card, but it doesn't seem to do anything different after installing and verifying.
My current bootloader screen displays the following:
***RELOCKED***
***Security Warning***
RUBY PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.93.0003
eMMC-boot
Aug 14 2012, 17:22:50
Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Michael

Flash 4ext recovery and enable smart flash from settings and then flash any ics rom... (4ext has this smart flash feature so even tho you're S-ON you can still flash a rom and the kernel together in twrp recovery only the rom get Flash not the kernel) reason it didn't work for you in the first place..
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ox16mtk02zoi3qf/PH85IMG.zip
If you have a hard time flashing 4ext recovery from all in one kit use it.. (REMOVE EVERY FILE INSIDE IT EXCEPT FOR THE ONE CALLED "recovery.img" and place it in your ext_sd card and go to bootloader and follow instructions) unlock the bootloader 1st if it's locked ...

Gotcha. Well, I just got the bootloader unlocked again, but I am unable to flash 4EXT recovery through the all in one software. The only other option I saw involved installing from the phone, but since I can only get to the bootloader and TWRP recovery screen, I'm unsure of how exactly to install it. You will have to excuse my ignorance on this stuff. I'm pretty computer literate, but this rooting stuff has gotten the best of me thus far...

Just follow the things I told in the 2nd para.. Use that zip and flash it from bootloader.. It'll overwrite and flash 4ext recovery

Well, after installing just that file on my SD card and restarting the phone, it went through a file check and parsing phase then when I clicked on recovery it brought back up TWRP. Obviously I'm misunderstanding something.

It does not appear so. TWRP opened up once again when I clicked on recovery from within the bootloader.
I'm also getting this error "Unable to mount eMMC" as well.

I think I was doing something incorrectly. Anyways, I just enabled Smart Flash and went to "install from sdcard". When I select "choose zip from sdcard", I get the error "Can't mount /internal sdcard".

In the wipe category, my options are as follows:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe cache + dalvik
wipe dalvik cache
wipe battery stats
format system
format data
format boot
format all partitions (except sd card)
format sdcard
Did you mean do a format all except sdcard?

I ended up just flashing the Cyanogenmod rom for now. Everything seemed to go fine with the install. I rebooted and it sat at the Cyanogenmod splash screen for almost a hour without proceeding. Any clue?

Did you do a full wipe before flashing the rom? If there are data of your previous rom in your system partition all the data get overwrite and crashes ... Full wipe = format all (except sd card)

I just read carefully your 1st post now.. You're hboot is 1.93.003 it's normally 1.93.002.. It's a nasty issue.. Try to flash a stock htc ics rom (arhd 5) and do the s-off.. It's the only way to recover from that issue as far as I know..

Don't wipe. Can you reboot into recovery? If so restore a previous rom or nandroid. You shouldn't lose anything. Above All don't panic.

I am not trying to be a smarta$$, but your post says that you are clicking reboot recovery. What about just reboot? Could also wipe /cache and then advanced/wipe dalvik-cache, then reboot.
If you have adb then you can reboot that way too.

reboot just locks up at splash screen and clearing the cache and dalvik wont delete files correct? also the cache we talk about is the wipe cache partition?
Wiping /cache and /dalvik won't delete any data so no worries about that. Wipe them both and then reboot. It will take up to 3-5minutes to rebuild the caches.
I kind of need to know what ROM you are/were on to figure out where to go. Once you answer that and try the above, and it doesn't work I have another idea to try.

trying to reboot now but it looks like it isnt going to work. but i also read somewhere else
Only the factory recovery wipes the /data/media ("/sdcard") partition. Any third-party community-built recovery (like ClockworkMod Recovery or TeamWin Recovery Project) will wipe everything except /data/media.
So, to answer your question, as long as the files are on your phone's pretend SD card (the default for user-created content and files you transfer to your phone), they won't be wiped when installing a custom ROM.
is this true? also again could care less about the phone just need the new baby pics and vids
You are correct. The only ways to erase your internal SD card is by formatting it, masterclear in Odin, or formatting /data (not wiping but formatting -they are different functions).
Did the wipe and reboot work?

no still stuck on splash screen and vibrates maybe every minute. also updating rom not an option because not sure what rom. and clockwork wipe(even though you said will work) not an option just in case it did wipe pics. it looks like im out of options.
Download DroidExplorer and install on your PC
Reboot into Recovery. Open up Droid Explorer and see if it finds the phone. If so just browse to where you need and copy them.

Bricked HTC Amaze 4G

So I just bought the phone yesterday (first Android phone). Its locked to Mobilicity.
I wanted to unlock the phone so I unlocked bootloader, rooted and dont know what else I did but ended up making the wifi/bluetooth get an error.
I decided at the end just to buy a code since I found it on eBay for only $3.99. Went into settings, did a factory restore and the phone stopped booting.
It gets stuck at the HTC screen. I can still lock the bootloader and all that but I dont know how exactly im supposed to restore it now. Im reading something about an RUU but the one ive tried doesnt work. Ive also created a Gold Card and tried the .zip file on the SD.
SD thing says CID error and on the PC it says error 140 bootloader error or something.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have 4EXT and TWRP if that makes a difference at all.
Using this RUU •RUU_Ruby_DAVE_CA_1.45.1800.2_R_Radio_1.09.550L.11v 2DC_30.67.550L.09_release_227348_signed.exe
I also remember flashing a kernel, it was from the youtube video to S-OFF the phone, Dunno if thats what caused the problem
EDIT: just tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27058110&postcount=44 and when i click on RESTORE it says "cant mount /internal_sdcard" and recovery only boots in safe mode

If its putting a rom on the SD and going into 4EXT, it wont let me do that because it cant mount the internal SD and only boots 4EXT in safe mode
can you access the wipe/format in the 4EXT? try formatting the internal sd card(be aware all contents will be erase) then restart and go back to 4EXT check if you can install from sd card after that.

I can mount/unmount "/sdcard" but it wont let me mount "/internal_sdcard"
When I choose "install from sd card" and then "choose zip from sdcard" it says that the internal SD cant be mounted, even though im trying to get it from external
yeah i think i had this problem before, it wont mount because 4EXT is still in safe mode (right?). If you have the Hasoon all-in-one kit in your pc, you can try flashing another recovery program(like TWRP or reflash 4EXT and see if it will still go to safe mode). I thick they release the version 5 of the all-in-one kit 3 weeks ago, look for it!!

EDIT: So i managed to get the internal to mount. SO SIMPLE. Had to plug in device, usb mass storage and then format it.
Now my problem is paritioning. I only have /emmc/ and nothing else. How do I partition and get everything else back?
EDIT AGAIN: So I went into 4EXT once the Internal SD could be mounted and then formatted data, system and boot and then tried installing from zip again. IT WORKED

[Q] Thunderbolt failing to boot after custom ROM

I recently attempted to root my HTC thunderbolt, and to do so I used the htc dev unlocker and then this "HTC Thunderbolt Tool'
rootzwiki.com/topic/27310-all-in-one-the-htc-thunderbolt-tool
After that I downloaded a rom and installed it through the 4ext recovery, it all install fine and I did do a factory/data reset but whenever I reboot after the rom install, I get the HTC white bootloader and then the screen become black with a back light to it.
I have tried a number of times to re-install the rom and have tried to use other roms but all of them seem to end the same way.
I have used:
BAMF FOREVER 1.1
BAMF MECHA ICS
AIRBORNE GOUI
Killsense 3.7.19
Lightning501
few more
My phone is a HTC Thunderbolt and when I attempted to root the phone it had a hboot version of 1.0.8 and had a stock version of ICS installed.
Sadly I have a phone without a working rom and I had forgot to make a backup so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Preferably I would like to keep the phone rooted but its not necessary.
Thank You
I'm a total xda-developor noob, so I hope I didn't mis a thread with a the solution all ready on it.
Make sure you do the factory reset, wipe dalvik and cache. Flash the ROM and reboot. Sounds like your missing a step somewhere 8)

I have tried clearing everything but still doesn't seem to work.
One thing I forgot to mention is sometimes if I wait long enough on the blank screen It boots me back into the 4ext recovery, don't know if that makes much of a difference.
The way I have been installing the rom
Load ROM onto the SD
Do a "wipe data/factory reset"
Go into install sd and choose the Rom which is in a .zip file
I think this is how its supposed to be done, but not sure.

Problem is you were coming from the ICS OTA.
The All In One Tool alone will not get you rooted after taking the OTA.
In order to fully root and s-off after having the OTA loaded, you would need to follow the steps outlined HERE

You can use whatever Recovery you want, Clockwork Mod is old and not really suggested to use, especially with newer roms.
I miss the RA recovery I had on my first bolt. I use the ext4 recovery now. Glad Santod was able to help you out!!

No ROM, No Backup, S-On

I just picked up this phone today, since my GS3 got smashed and coming from samsung, this is all greek to me.
For long winded reasons, I do not have a ROM installed and whenever I try to install one I keep getting boot loops. At this point I'm trying to go back to stock, but that isn't even working. I have tried flashing ROMS, firmwares, but everything keeps getting me bootloops.
I think this all started beacuse when i was going to flash a new ROM, i hit "wipe internal storage" which wiped everything, including my Nandroid :crying:
I am on bootloader 2.09 and obviously have no ROM so there is nothing I can do past the recovery... Is there anything i can do, or did i just brick a phone in 2 hours?
Easy fix. Download MeanBean ROM (ROM can be found in the Development thread) to your computer. Boot into recovery and mount your internal storage to your computer and transfer the ROM to your phone. Flash the ROM zip once and reboot to system. The phone should boot to the HTC splash screen and then reboot to recovery on it's on. Flash the ROM zip again, and reboot once more. Give it a few minutes and it should boot into the ROM. Make sure you make a backup at some point. I also recommend keeping a backup on your PC.

Need help fast, PLEASE!!!!

i am trying to root a friends htc evo 4g lte, and finally got the bootloader unlocked, then started the root process. i got to the point of the custom recovery, where you mount the internal storage, but it some how has been deleted, and it is asking me for a decrypt password, to unlock the internal storage data, and that i only have 30 attempts before it will be lost. according to her, she has never setup any accounts or passwords on her phone, so i am wondering if there is a factory password, or what else I should do, as the root process was in the middle, and not complete? please get me an answer to this, as she uses this phone for her business, and needs it immediately. i have samsung phones, and the root is much easier, so i didn't expect all of this. any help is extremely appreciated.

Unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone so any internal data I believe isn't there anymore. Reboot back to fastboot and try reflashing the recovery. Also HBOOT info would probably help. Just keep calm. It'll be okay.

if this was my phone i would be a lot calmer, but this is her only phone, and she uses it for business. the samsung rooting is a million times easier, and without a single problem. i have done dozens of them, and NEVER had any issues. i don't understand why htc makes you do the bootloaded, which is a monster process all to its own, and then puts you through so many trials and tribulations to complete the root. when i root a samsung, all the information is still thereso i assumed it would be the same on any android device. as you can imagine, i am bugging to lose her all her info.
ok, so i reflashed recovery using the cmd prompt, and it flashed ok. then i loaded supersu. no problem. but then when i try to load the stock htc rom, it says it can't find md5, and reloads into a white screen with green htc on it. that's it. it goes no further. anything you can tell me to help get this thing up and running?

the hboot is 2.10.0000
and the rom is: Download 3.16.651.3 Stock Firmware with root for HTC Evo 4G LTE (Flash with TWRP after factory reset)
when i try to flash it, it says, "no md5 file". then just goes to the white screen and stays there.
but i am willing to flash any rom to get it up and running. i have no problems getting into bootloader or recovery.
top of my fastboot screen says:
******* tampered
******* unlocked
jewel PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.10.0000
RADIO 1.13.11.1105
OpenDSP-V33.1.0.45.1128
eMMC-boot

man, i don't even know what ruu is? we don't have that with samsung phones. when i wiped the partition, i just tried to load the twrp and then the rom.
so i'm guessing you want me to flash: Novitious_Jewel_4.3_Sense5.5_N1.zip - 831.88 MB
do i just flash it like any other rom, or do i have to do something special for this ruu?
It's a normal rom but you saying HBOOT 2.10.0000 tells me that someone updated it. Before you started the process was the phone Android version 4.3?

i think it was. and yes, it was upgraded today. i spent quite a while unlocking the bootloader. that took forever. then i tried to root it. but had a problem right in the middle of that. when i went to mount the int sd card, it said nothing was there. then it told me i needed a decrypt password. so i was told to wipe everything. so i did. then reloaded twrp and supersu. that is where i am now. man, i just want to get this thing up and running again, no matter what rom or anything else. this is not my phone, and she uses it for business. she needs it as soon as possible, and i know so very little about htc.

Well since it was updated you need a rom that is built on the new layout. The link I have you is for a rom that should work fine for you. It is sense 5.5 and personally I love it. Hopefully your friend will too. Just dl and flash. Also you need a modified twrp recovery from Captain_Throwback.

Either of the twrps listed in this thread should work. Fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img. personally I would rename the recovery to either twrp or recovery and make sure it is in the same folder as the fastboot files. Or if you are s-off put in a zip fodder after renaming to recovery.img

ok, i got them. i'll go give it a shot. i really appreciate all the help, i'll hit your thanks bar many times.
update: i hit your thanks bar for every post you made in this thread. thanks again. hope it all works.
man, i can't believe i went through all the things i went through, and i am right back in the same boat i was this afternoon. i renamed and flashed the custom recovery. i then flashed the rom, and when it looked like it was doing everything right, and starting to load the rom, it took me right back to the prompt "Decrypt Storage". type password to decrypt storage.
30 attempts remain before device data is deleted.
how can i get past this thing? i wiped everything there was to wipe on this phone.

i got so mad about the decrypt thing popping back up, that i went into wipe and did a full "format data". now the decrypt message is gone, but the phone will not recognize the internal sd card. the only place it shows up is in advanced wipe area, and i can wipe it individually, but in the other areas of the phone, it doesn't show up. for instannce, if i try to usb mount, there is no internal card, so it will not show anything. so how do i get this internal sd card back? i can't flash anything right now because it isn't recognized.
two other questions, should the int sd card be formatted in fat32 or exfat? and is the rom you gave me odexed or deodexed?
UPDATE: so i finally decided to use the root folder to flash the older twrp, and it worked. then i was able to see the internal folder again. so i tried to reload the supersu, and rom you suggested, but when it loaded up, it took me right back to the "decrypt storage" message. so i tried to reload the newer twrp, you suggested, and the int sd card is not recognized again. so i am guessing i have a lot of miss matched software on this phone, and maybe that is the reason i am getting this message. any idea how to determine exactly which ones are out of place? in the mean time, i googled the decrypt storage message, and many people have been through this also, but i haven't seen a fix. so i will go back to your friends site, and try the other twrp for now.
UPDATE2: i just decided to relock the bootloader, and ruu it back to original. i hope this works. i was able to relock the bootloader, and i am in the middle of ruu'ing it now.
UPDATE3: yeah, i've got it back up. so glad to get this thing running again. i wish i had of understood what you meant by ruu before, i would have saved myself a lot of grief.
the fact that, while setting things up for the first time, this phone will not let you skip accounts, and just get into your phone is crap. you should be able to set the accounts up at your whim. and even if you try to set a new account up with htc, the code the phone gives you, will not work on the htc site. even if you keep generating a new code on the phone, the site will not take it. what the hell is that? this entire experience with this phone makes me appreciate having a samsung much, much, much more than ever before. htc needs to get their head out of their ass, and stop making everything so difficult.
Based on a quick read on this thread, the problem appears to have been an incomplete update to the new layout. The HBOOT got updated, but the image doesn't appear to have been flushed again to update the data and system partitions fully, and then the ROM booted to ensure everything was initialized properly. That would be the way to fix it going forward.
Also, you can skip through all of the account setup stuff in the ROM - I'm not sure what you mean about that .
