Best battery of any smartphone I have ever had. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

This phone is far more meeting my battery life expectations. Better than touch pro, touch pro 2, og EVO, EVO 3d, epic touch 4g, and the galaxy nexus I ran for about 2 weeks. At 48% with over 12 hours moderate use.

this phone sleeps well

Mine has been pretty decent for the amount of use that I put on it today. I've been playing around all day with it.

Im imprf with the battery in this phone...been texting all day and i have 3hr 7min of screen on time

I don't get it, mine seems nothing as good as everyone else's, maybe I just use it more? I'm not rooted, my screen brightness is 15 percent, GPS off, cdma only, not on WiFi, my sync is on for gmail and facebook that's it. What can help me get better life?

saying your not on wifi, can you be? using wifi will use a ton less battery then using 3g to send and receive data.

WiFi isn't an option I'm an emt so I'm out and about when working, I can always charge my phone in the ambulance, I'm just jealous of everyone else's battery life, and when I left my phone unplugged at home overnight, on WiFi, the next morning it had lost a good amount of juice despite being on WiFi

Don't worry your not alone. I have all the tweaks. Burned through the battery in 6.5 hours today. I guess I am a heavy user.
Battery life is a little bit better than my OG Evo. I am not too excited about it since swapping battery is no longer an option.
Double digit lasting doesn't see possible without turning everything off and going to sleep.

Always show display time in addition to the main graph when posting screenies about battery life. I've been pretty impressed myself, waiting for things to settle before my conclusion

Sorry this question is so off-topic but I'm really interested in being an emt, how stressful is it and do you feel like work takes over your everyday life or do you still keep your sanity by having a good enough amount of time for whatever you want to do?

I work 4 days a week. 48-50 hours a week but 3 days off is good enough for me, and the stress it depends, if you work 911 with fire its for sure stressful at times, you see a lot more, if you work for a private company, not 911, its less stressful you will run less intense calls and its a lot easier than 911, I've done both, private usually pays more, but the 911 is more satisfying and more intense at the same time

Yeah, my first charge I got 28+hrs with 7+ hrs screen on. I was blown away, needless to say. It's gone WAY downhill 2 days later. I must have installed some app that's Fn me up. Need to install better battery stats, I guess.
Still can't get XP to recognize new Evo as storage device.

Ahh thanks for clearing that up for me, it seems like a really cool job that'll keep you interested and would give you the nice feeling that you're helping people out. Obviously I still need to research more about the field but its nice hearing from someone who is actually out there in the field right now, thanks, again

People still use XP? Try resetting battery stats.
Did you have the OG? I read some where someone had to remove all their old HTC/Evo drivers, then reinstall the new Evo's drivers etc.

Xp is still good besides Microsoft is releasing to many os' and 7 is nice but 8 will probably be a flop..

Definitely not better then Epic Touch.

Mine has been awesome so far. I mowed my lawn yesterday and had the music player going the whole time. So after about 2 1/2 hrs I was only down to 96%. My old EVO would drain to about 70-75% after mowing my lawn. By the end of the day (8:30am-11pm), after fairly moderate use, I was still only down to 45%.

Battery is AWESOME!

I'm very impressed with the battery life.
30 minutes of calling over bluetooth, hours of screentime, streaming music for over an hour over bluetooth, 3G all day.
And at 1am it was still at 40%

Battery life Expectations

I have seen reviews and all say the life is mediocre. So far after about 5 days of testing its better than my Nexus S 4G. Yesterday pulled in 16 hours and still had 40%. That was with minimal games, a couple 3d shots and videos, some music and bout 300 texts, display on 3/4 bright. Internet of course too.
Day before was about the same results, much more 3d though so i finished at 14 hours with 20 %.
So far I am liking the battery. Waiting to root, titanium backup, restore all saved games to fully test the battery life. Broken arm makes it hard to game :[
Thanks for the lowdown.
Was 4G on the whole time?
Hmm yeah, battery life was my main concern. However i realized that stock comes with a 1730mah battery, and siedo sells a 1900mah battery right off the bat that fits snug without modifications.

I think part of what is getting missed in the reviews, seeing as most are "first impression" reviews meaning they haven't used the phone under normal use is. during these reviews the phones are taking a beating as far as how they are used. I mean I have zero need to tether for a day at work, or have 4 G on at all times. OR game for 2 hours straight a day, or watch a full 3D movie every day, or play with it just to play with it. Now will we all be doing this day 1-7? of course we will it's a new toy. (I took Friday off for crying out loud, because I knew I would be worthless.) But I think once the novelty wears off and we have our phones set up the way we want them, I actually think we will all be happy with out batteries. ie. getting 12-14 hours with out a charge. ( If I get that I'll be happy I would say I'm an average user.) I mean I've also come to realize asking a pocket computer to do more is asking ALOT so I have chargers everywhere. But I'm just saying. when you need it to go that far I think it will. no problem.
Thanks for posting! Battery life is my greatest concern. I was psyched for this phone then I saw a bunch of crappy reviews then I wasn't psyched and now I'm getting there again. The reviews are all over the place even with the battery.
Please keep us updated.

There is a couple reviews posting similar results as the op. (Sorry i don't remember which ones)
Original evo owner as well. Rooted and overclock to 1.15ghz i was doing 11 to 12 hours consistantly. I had an extra battery so i always threw that in there when it died so wear was always from 100%-0% daily so i never saw it lose charge over the year.
Right know i unplugged at 11am, bout 5:30 pm. Was at the hospital so low signal searching always and i watched xmen 3. After that i was bored playing with 3d and a lot of google. Sitting at 48%. I Find that very respectable.
No 4g where i live. Only use wifi or 3g. That 1900mah will be perfect to have a extra one. Hate charging my phone. Never owned a car charger lol
As of now i have bout 35 apps and NEVER use a task killer. Major help has ti be for the excess ram and efficient cpu. Less load means less power draw. My evo was always 70-100%

[Q] HORRIBLE Battery Life due to Display!!!!

HORRIBLE Battery Life due to Display!!!!
Is this because of the qHD display or the 3D?
My display always ends up using +80% of my battery...
I've tried keeping the display at about 25% brightness and auto... both Didnt seem to help...
Any solutions or sugestions?
Thanks in Advance
same as it was for me on my hd2 and my week with the 4g.
just the nature of the beast with a big screen
I was the proud owner of the 4g for one year and granted the display took up a lot of battery it was never more than 40% for me
Sent from my rootless 3VO... Lets get that working
I think it's a bit of a false positive. I've noticed that when I"m in weak signal areas, my display percentage is WAY higher (60-80%) than it normally is. Even when my display is hardly ever on (as indicated by the battery graph). I have a feeling that multiple things (including cell standby/data syncing) are erroneously rolled up into the "display" category.
Dave
The reason you see high numbers is because your display is the only thing that will make a dent into the battery. Everything else isn't consuming as much so that is why you see such a high percentage. My sister has a shift, my dad has a 3D, I have a 3D and an EVO. They all share the same display percentages. People need to stop worrying.
The other apps are not consuming as much power so the display is reading high. I also noticed this with any phone that has gingerbread sense. The shift and EVO started showing results like this once they got the gingersense update.

Is there any way to comfirm this? (app from market?)
I don't know if this will apply to the 3D since it is in reference to the OG Evo, but I find that when I'm on a Sense based ROM it is ALWAYS display that takes up the most, and when I'm on AOSP it's ALWAYS cell standby.

No clue whether it applies either, however that would fit in with Dodgeboy's anecdote about weak signal increasing his display %.

Just cause you don't get that doesn't mean others don't.

LOL, there is no way anyone is getting 24 hours out of this battery or their definition of "Heavy Usage" is FAR different from say... HEAVY USAGE.
I'm in sales. I top out around 8K minutes a month making and taking phone calls, in/out pitching , closing etc..
Phone is usually ON - talking, dialing, sending/receiving email, syncing, updating.
I'm lucky to get 4 hours.

If you charged your battery all the way before using it for the first time then unplug it and plug it back in you will get outstanding battery life and do it every time you charge your phone plus don't drain your battery completely you will shorten life of the battery...quit *****ing and condition your and give automateit a go from the market and turn off automatic brightness

the bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushing, if you know what I mean.
I'm on the side that 24hrs of heavy usage being fairly absurd. I'm not outright denying it's possible, but I can't see it.
My phone used 70% over 12hrs. That only entailed receiving push mail for at most 50 messages. I turned on the screen occasionally, but didn't really use the phone. I was connected to wifi most of that time, and had a good cell signal. Estimates say I could get a few more hours out of the phone. That still puts it at around 15-18 hours of almost no use. I could see maybe hitting 24hrs if I didn't touch it the entire time.
Great
I am very pleased with battery life. I'm getting 8 hours plus without any problems.
I have never check to see how long it actually last. I've never just let it run over night. But I have run it about 20 hours on days since I got it and by the time I'm plugging it in at night it still has 30%+ left on it's charge. I run all sorts of stuff during the day, play games, check XDA, use the internet, 4G, navigator, etc., plus spend 3-4 hours on actually talking for work. So, I could believe the 24 hours, especially after running for 20+ hours on days. I always let it charge completely overnight though.
Fully charged on AC overnight. Unplugged at 7:30am. its not even 10 yet and the phone is below 50% charge. i have made two short phone calls and sent a few texts. that's it.
This is pathetic. Even if it is radio related, that's still not acceptable.
Hoping to see the Seidio fat battery get released soon. At least the phone will last a day then
Any thoughts on the OTA perhaps improving battery life? I hesitate to apply it while waiting for root, but from what I am reading, we might be at the mercy of HTC in that regard anyway...
Edit: 30 minutes later, down to 15% charge. amazing.

So how bad _is_ the battery problem

I have been dying to get this phone for weeks, but every review I see posted has bad news about the battery. I'd really love to hear some real world numbers to see if this phone could work for me. I really need to get through 'til late evening, and I need to be able to make 1.5-2 hrs of voice calls per day. Am I dreaming?
What is your experience?
Thanks for responding - I really appreciate your input!
My first real day with my Amaze
Woke up at 6 am EST. Went to the in-laws and usewd my phone to check traffic to ATL Hartsfield. Checked a few more times while texting and checking a few notifications. Get on plane. Airplane mode. Play some angry birds and teeter. try to figure out what all these widget things are all about since I am new to Android. Get to Chicago. Walk about 4 miles through the city snapin pics (see amazing photos thread) Stopped and ate at a resturant. More facebook, text email. Back to where we are staying and it just turned yellow. Not too bad if you ask me considering it was only yellow and I have juice defender for 25% or lower. I could have gone couple hours longer normal use.

I noticed in your other thread that you were getting 19 hours - what is your usage pattern like? Also, why is wifi calling an issue - I thought that this had it. Not a deal breaker, but I'd love it for calling home when I'm overseas.
Simply put, from 100 - 0% battery...I haven't hit 7 hours yet (4.5-6.8 hours). That's on moderate-heavy use.
I've now gone through three cycles and will begin to use the device "normally" this coming week. Let's just say I'll be hanging onto my blackberry bold 9780 for travels or times when I know i wont be near a charger for a day. This is one of those - plug in at the office - kind of phones. haha.
Turning off 4g would help, as well as GPS.
I expect once I go back to my Android ways (I've been spoiled by BlackBerry battery life) I can push past 12 hours on this phone.

Hour and a half plane ride.... Got back close to 4 probably.
no major testing but i charged both of my devices to 100% Evo and Amaze. took them off the charger at 1am didn't touch them until 7 am and the Evo went down to 75% and the Amaze 73%. the Evo is rooted ad the Amaze is of course stock.
I have 3 gmail accounts on automatic sync as well as an exchange account set to push delivery. also a news and Facebook widget set to sync every hour.
Yesterday I watched my battery life carefully. I went 8+40 before the first battery warning at 29%. It went an hour and 10 minutes more to yellow at 19%. Then finally turned red after a total of 13+10. I would characterize my usage as light. I listened to an .mp3 while getting ready, did a little messaging. got maybe 20 emails during the day. Had a few short phone calls. Responded to an email from work. Downloaded and installed an app from thre Market. Watched a few short Youtube videos, etc. I have four email accounts, three of which push to the phone. Since I might need to respond to an emergency from the office, I can't see normally letting my phone go below 30%, so that means I have about 8 and a half hours of light use. I was really hoping for more.
As soon as we get root we will have wifi calling. That's if we don't get an OTA with that sooner.
Mine gets horrible battery life when I use it. But when it is on standby its almost crazy how little it actually seems to use.

Lol. That's about right.
For those of you having terrible battery life I suggest going to the market and downloading juice defender and juice plotter. I took my phone off the charger today around 6:15 am and it’s now 1:05am and I still have 26% battery remaining. That is with moderate use and a short 15 minute charge through a computer usb. I took about 8 calls averaging 5 minutes a call, one was 7, watched two YouTube videos, sent 11 text messages, played a game for about 5 minutes wasting time, checked a couple of my posts on xda 3 or 4 times, as well as using the weather app frequently (I’m in Florida and we've been getting hammered with rain!) O... and most of the things that required connectivity my phone was connected to Wi-Fi. With the correct profiles and settings enabled it should increase battery life considerably, and if you have root, even more so!! Been using it with my old g2 and myt4g, and now Amaze!!

[Q] HTC Radar - Battery Life

How's the battery life on the HTC Radar compared to the Lumia 710? if anyone have had hands on experience, that would be appreciated.
I am coming from a Nexus S, will I see an improvement with the Radar?
Thanks!
Best battery life of any smartphone I have ever used.
And I have used :
Toshiba TG01
HTC HD2
HTC Desire
Galaxy S
You will definitely notice the difference.
I've had quite a few Android phones as well as WM6.5 and one WP7 phone - this phone is showing the absolute best battery life out of ANY of them. I'm easily going 24 hours without charging.
Heavy use, sync on, no auto brightness, wifi sharing... Lasts at least 24 hours. Usually dies on 35 hours of use. I carry my charger everywhere, so I use it all the way.
Great, Thanks guys. It's very encouraging to know that this phone can last nearly/over 24 hours. My battery life on my Nexus S can only last 12 hours with brightness set low, background data ON, and 3G (medium-usage). Tired of charging my phone twice per day. Good to know that a single charge on this phone will last me an entire work day.

4G actually... I keep the WiFi turned on when I am at work (8 hours a day) and at home though.
1 day 15 hours since last charge.
11 hours remaining.
20% left.
Dude this phone has the best battery life I have ever seen. And the only battery saver that I have ever seen actually work too!
OMG If you turn off "As items arrive" and set it to "15 min" in the email settings it does WONDERS for battery life... lol... New discovery for me
Does turning the automatic brightness option on save battery life compared to leaving it at the medium setting?
Thanks!

Wow nice stats. Were you using the battery saving feature the entire time?
the best battery smartphone i ever used, no problem for 24h with 3G on all time, 2 email accounts, bluetooth on aprox 8 hours, 1-2 h of voice calls, 10-20 sms, 40-50 emails, twitter, facebook from time to time..... best ever for me.... and i own a lot of phones... but i always go back to the radar.
Best battery life really for a smartphone (even if it is a little bit dumb ;-). I am charging it every 4th day!!!
Wifi is ON all the time, phone is minimally used actually (it is at home all the time and I have very poor NW service at home). I just use it to take pics/videos of my kid (camera is great in daylight, relatively poor in dark) and to play some games/install apps or to just generally scroll around. Maybe screen in ON for about 2 hours during the 4 days in between charges. Also few SMS sent/received. Also one hotmail acc and one X-Box account configured and syncing. No FB on this phone yet. Brightness is set to Auto (b default not in battery saver mode). This phone was mainly bought for camera!
My primary phone is the HTC Sensation. In comparison, I need to recharge it every night. At best, if I keep wifi off then can make it to second day (best I ever managed on Sensation was almost 2 days). Have stopped bothering about battery life on Sensation now! I can afford to recharge it every night. Bought Sensation mainly for the gorgeous 4.3 inch screen (good for navigation and browsing).
Previously have also used HTC Touch Diamond. It used to give me 2 days of regular use (without any use it would go on for 3 days). I am not a heavy user actually.

that battery stats or usage stats? the phone is actually used by my wife who uses it only when we go out. At home we have a landline connection which is very cheap to use compared to a mobile. She is not working so is at home most of the time. she is not a geek (is a doctor actually) and doesnt have FB page (she finds FB too technical!!!). The phone indeed gives us 4 days of minimalistic use (the use is either taking pics of our kid or me playing with it!) right now the battery stats say 39% charge remaining, time since last charge 2 days 6 hours and still can go for 1d9h! If you dont want to believe that be my guest.

I think he was referring to what you said in your original post about it being a smartphone and you wrote even if it is a bit dumb.
He was asking why you think its a bit dumb. At least that's the way I read it.
Great battery life on this thing for sure though

Oh I get it. Well the OS is a bit dumb really. Some simple and useful features missing and the Zune dependency. But the dumbest of the lot is this feature whereby the phone automatically switches off wifi to save battery when the phone goes to standby! So if you started downloading any app and while download if phone goes to standby then the download fails and you need to restart from the beginning again! Its irksome coz this means to download you need to keep the screen on. I found it dumb really!

I'm just amazed at the battery life on this thing... I've been going for 2 days straight and haven't plugged in yet. It's low (though I can't tell how low, but the meter is pretty thin), but I'm trying to see how long before I get some sort of "plug your phone in!" warning.
One caveat, I have a strong wifi signal at home, which is where I was for the entire weekend - so that obviously helps. But still...
I have to say this is a VERY impressive phone. Battery life is spectacular compared to any single android phone I've ever used. Any android phone I've used would die around 8 hours of moderate usage, and with this Radar it can last practically the entire day.
The simplicity of the phone does leave a bit to be desired, but I'll take it when the phone can last an entire day without worrying about the battery life. More apps will come in due time.

Battery life is good enough

Since people only post on negative battery experience while the happy ones are silent, I will break the silence.
I have and use the One X+ (international non-LTE, in central Europe) for one week. Today, I just used it to browse web for several hours (browser was consuming 55% at time of screenshot) and read some pdf (pdf viewer was consuming 17%; I flipped about 200 pages in fast way as it was mildly boring ebook with big fonts so no zooming). There were about 10 minutes of web or youtube video too.
The screenshot shows battery graph at 38% of battery left, after 8 hours since plugged.
I guess (based on the screenshot bars and based on the actual usage) the screen-on time was about 60% (so between 4.5 and 5 hours).
Boo at HTC for removing screen-on time counter.
Google now is off.
Mobile data is off.
WiFi is on.
Power saver mode is off.
Brightness was automatic, usually around 30%.
No extra battery monitor was running (they may affect battery while measuring too).
Stock rom, one OTA update was performed.
Android version 4.1.1
Build 1.17.401.1
I have never managed to fully discharge the battery so its measurements may not be fully calibrated.
no problems here
This phone has great life for me. The only times I've had a problem getting a full day was when I first got it and basically didn't put it down. Since then I usually have 30-50% left at the end of the day. I wonder what some people do to drain the battery so much...

I disagree.
I don't game at all. I get about 10-14hrs of battery life with 1-2hrs of screen time with most of that running on LTE and with Power Saver ON. That is OK, but not great at all. I would like to get that type of battery life with 3-4 hours screen time and using Navigation. I think for people that use their phone for work and travel for work, you ideally need 16hrs battery life with 3-4 hours screen time with some GPS/Navigation. Don't think this phone will every get there.
I've finally got my IT to give me WIFI access at work to avoid 3G/LTE and today I'm testing if Juice Defender is better than Power Saver mode, but based on my current drain, I don't sure i'll make it to 16hrs.
In either case, I found the drain while running Navigation to be HUGE (40%+/h) and if Power Saving mode is OFF the phone will overheat as well (55C/130F).
Still I love this phone, but hope I can find a way to squeeze as much battery as possible. When I look over to say the Nexus 4 forum, I'm a bit envious on what those users are achieving on their batteries.

I'm debating switching from the N4 to the HOX+ but the battery is one huge concern. I traded a RAZR HD for a HOX+ and i should have it tomorrow so i can compare the two. I've been averaging between 4 and 5 hours of screen time per day, with my best being 5h 31min. The only thing that I'm thinking will help my case for the OX+ is that i will only use it on hspa+ instead of LTE.

Well, I choose the HOX+ mainly because you can't buy a N4, unless you go to the aftermarket and pay a premium. Also the 16GB is just not enough and LG lost me a customer coming from the LG G2x. Plus in Canada, there's not much benefit buying a phone off-contract. I was off-contract for the past 3yrs and my experience wasn't any better than the the providers that lock you in. That said, I'm guessing you will see better battery on your N4 compared to the HOX+...but hey, I don't either will come close to the RAZR HD for battery life.

Thats very weird! Here are screenshots with detailed info about one of my usage days...
As you see i got 37hours with 3h screen time.... so about same as you.
All connection ON all the time (wifi, 3g)
Sync on
Power saver ON.
Some gaming, web browsing, social apps, calling, texting and stuff (see app usage screenshot)
p.s. my phone is stock and unrooted and i dont use any power saver apps or anything like that. Just stock power saver option.
Oh and i played one game with power saver off, not for long tho. (was tegra3 game, that racing game, you can see it in screenshot)

I had a RAZR HD for a few days. Wasn't impressed with the battery life to be honest. Maybe the Maxx version is better. And I was one of the lucky limbo level 3'ers from the N4 launch, that was not fun.

Doubt the HOX+ can beat my N4! Kinda sucks cuz they have the same size battery

Maybe I've not been using it for heavy gaming, but in the month I've had the phone, I've not run into any serious battery issues. If this were an issue, I'd probably install JuiceDefender, and configure it as per my schedule so push E-mails are not constantly keeping the radio on, as well as throttling CPU back.
I also have a charger in my car, so if I'm on the road, it gets charged.
my battery life usually gets me through the day until about 7pm with around 3hrs screen on time so i cant complain too much. i listen to music a lot and text heavily
Yeh. I dont thjnk ive seen better battery from any hox+ posted here. Ive seen 5hr screen time but the total run time is 6hrs.

I might have a bad car charger, but when I'm running Navigation, it still drains the battery at 10%/h.
I think I do have higher battery life expectations. I tested with Juice Defender yesterday, and basically it provides around the same benefit as running in Battery Saver mode. Got 2hrs screen time with 14 hrs total run time while mostly connected to WIFI (maybe 2hrs or so connected to HSPA/LTE). Again this is OK...but not great.
Today I am testing with both JD and Power Saver on and will report back. It's the last day of my 14 day return/exchange policy and I'm planning to keep the HOX+. I have a very slight inclination to change to LG Optimus G as I believe it has the potential to get the same battery life as the Nexus 4. But I'm scared as hell about the LG support and the if people think the Dev community is thin here, it's basically a ghost town there. That said, it looks like they have a good build for CM 10.1.
Here is my best battery stat for HOX+, no games mainly whatsapp use with wifi on. Few voice calls and sms.
